I bought my vintage pair of nettleton too, the same as yours, Has some dryness on the vamp, but I wish I could restore it by shoe conditioners with a spoon, like the way of deer bone trick, you should definitely try it!
I would go down at least half a size from your sneaker size. Vintage Florsheim is more like Allen Edmonds and offers a tremendous variety of sizing. I believe it was 4a to 4E in widths so the lengths were very precise to your need. If you’ve been sized on a brannock device I’d take that size on vintage Florsheim. Best wishes.
