  • This video is a before & after of a pair of Shell Cordovan Florhseim Imperial wingtip tassel loafers model 33850 that I believe were made in 1984. They are in amazing condition for a 36 year old shoe! I found them at a thrift store. First, I wiped them off with a damp cloth, then cleaned and conditioned them with Lexol Neatsfoot Leather Dressing, and brushed them vigorously for about 25-30 minutes. I then applied 2 coats of Pure Polish High Shine Paste / Wax Polish on the toes only per Andy's (the owner of Pure Polish) instructions in the video linked below.

    NOTE: I made (at least) one inaccurate statement at 18:05: the Pure Polish High Shine wax does not have any coconut oil in it. But it does take a second for it to soften onto your finger.

    Hi Robert i wanted to thank you for inspiring me to look around at the thrift store more than i used to. (my wife loves to shop in them) But i recently actually found a pair of Alden model 994 shell cordovan shoes for $6 with the uppers in pretty great shape. They had a lot of cheap black wax/polish on them. I followed the steps you did in a previous video and the leather looks so good after just conditioning. so i guess thanks haha.

    Need to make a brush attachment for your Sawz-All, mount it in your vise and let it do the work while you just move the shoe around.

    I watched your video and was intrigued by the shoes. I have always liked tasseled shoes. When I finished watching I thought, "Hey, let's go check out Ebay" and what was the first shoe that came up on my Florsheim search - this very pair. As much as I would have liked to have bid on them, they are just to narrow for my feet. Right size, wrong width. Just always seems to work out like that. Thanks for sharing with us.

      Tom Smith - not so much since Covid, but I used to travel locally for work and I’d stop a few times a week, probably at least 3-6x a week. Usually I find something of interest 1 out of 5 or so visits. Something like this (Shell in good shape) is a rarity.

    How do you find all these shoes

    I sold Florsheim's from 1977 to 1989. All factory model numbers were 5 digits. Black shoes started with 2xxxx, all other colors started with 3xxxx. Imperial Quality numbers started with 9xxxx, regardless of color. Florsheim did not use that heel style or sole finish during the 70's or 80's. Florsheim did not use that heel insert during those decades either. Florsheim never made shell cordovan with a model number starting with a 3xxxx. Check out those creases at the ball of the foot again. I know you want them to be shell but the micro-creasing is there. That is split grain calfskin. Sorry bro. Love your videos man.

      @CobblerBob  3 роки тому +1

      William Stieby I appreciate your input, but I respectfully disagree. Both shell Cordovanmodels.com and vcleat.com list this model # as Shell Cordovan, and there was absolutely no micro creasing. None. I’ve been to the Horween leather factory, I know exactly what micro creasing looks like and how Shell breaks.
      ALSO, here is a direct quote from an email I received as a reply from David, owner of www.vcleat.com: “Hey Robert - the 33850 is definitely Shell Cordovan. Nice find.”

      @@CobblerBob I have a similar pair in longwing pattern and that model was only made of corrected calf leather. But the model in shortwing pattern (in the video) is shell. Very interesting!
