    You're absolutely right. One enormous problem with this model though is that it's not an option for everyone. Your location means EVERYTHING. Just to start, if you live on either coast, the cost of shipping is super high for anyone buying from the other coast which is prohibitive to many sales. You are smack in the middle and your shipping costs are much different.
    I'm sure many sellers can relate with me; I live in a rural area on the east coast where those items that make that kind of money are so few and far between that I have no choice but to go the small item route. In addition, the people in my area mostly believe that there used goods are worth so much that it's impossible to make any profit by buying their stuff. They mostly think that because people are asking for an amount on eBay that this is exactly what there item is worth. This is even happening at the thrift stores I once could buy at good prices (no more). They then think that by charging 10 bucks less makes there item a bargain even when that same item can be purchased for less on the same eBay. I'm nearly 3 years in and I'm broke and bust my ass every day including Sundays.

      Peter Ripson mid coast Maine here, sourcing can be tough but you got to research to find those items that everyone else isn’t looking for & the thrift store isn’t aware sells high.

    I like watching no bs resell channels, yours is top of my list, but I had started watching Lonnie/Garage Sale flips the past 2 months because as you said, hes really real, hes not flaunting an expensive car or condo or bragging about going to the gym, or showing off in any other fashion and shows both failures and success. Other channels like Bonafide Hustler and Rakinprofit feel so fake and there is too much fluff to get through to actually learn the real stuff, sometimes it just feels like they like hearing themselves talk, once in a while there is a good video they do but theres too much crap to go through. Keep up the no bs!

    With the thrift stores pricing their items up to $10 now, I've started sourcing at Marshalls, TJ Maxx. It's only a couple bucks more but the items are more current, they move faster, I can source multiples, little prep work, and they already have upcs for the product pages. I also love how quickly I can list the items.

    Hey Pete, love the videos! Maybe you can make a follow up to this to teach us how to never have slow sales because of sourcing
    I'm definitely on board and doing what you're saying with only dealing with higher priced items, but the issue is I have trouble finding the stuff. Goodwill, savers, salvation army, flea markets and swap meet trips every week and it seems a bit like luck sometimes.
    One week I'll find 3 $200 electronic items on the same day, sometimes the I'll go months without seeing the shelves of my local goodwill add anything new.
    Would love some tips that go beyond "just keep going everyday" (which I'm already doing) when it comes to finding good items consistently.

    Hi Pete , how much of that stuff comes over the counter vs finding it in the wild . A percentage would be good . We cant apply your business model , you are 80% pawn shop /20 picker / leads, because of your store front . Not having a go , just need balance to the video. It would be nice if people came to me every time they want to sell something ? You cant make it sound easy, unless they copy your model

    in my rural area, I have to buy what I can get. I don't mind the low end stuff, it sells for me quickly, usually, the higher priced stuff does not sell so quick for me, usually. There are exceptions to every rule tho. I agree that you idea is good, but if the merchandise isn't out there, it isn't. once in a while I pay up for better stuff, 20, 30 dollars for something I know I can make at least 100 on, that's okay too, when I can find it.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 6 років тому +2

      i do not bother with Goodwill or Salvation Army stores any more. they've gotten too high, so had Alabama thrift. Contrary to what they would have you believe, Goodwill and now Alabama thrift are NOT non profits. In the case of the large Alabama thrift store, a company bought them out, and I suppose their charities still get a small percentage because they still use the names of the charities, but the whole character of the store has changed. Prices are very high, even for junk, and now they're starting to carry new merchandise too. All the thrifts in the largest town near me have gone way up on their prices, sometimes asking more than retail, and they wonder why stuff doesn't sell. anyone going to a thrift, whether it's for resell or their own use, is looking for a bargain. Nobody is looking to pay retail.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 6 років тому +1

      I started reselling at live flea markets before the net existed. Was more fun when it came to selling, but that packing up, setting up, then tearing down sure got old. I have a nearby thrift that is a lifesaver, their prices are LOW, and sometimes they get high value stuff... not always tho. Runs the gambit from absolute junk to high end electronics or worn out jeans to high end jackets. Never know what I'll find. Can go there 3 or 4 times a day sometimes since they're generally putting out more stuff all day long. Never know what I'll find or when. of course I usually show up just as somebody else is leaving with a treasure. Lately they've been running a sale where they have a small bag for a dollar, and a regular paper grocery sack for 5 bucks, whatever you can fit in the bag is yours for that price, be it clothes, electronics, whatever. One guy that always seems to beat me to the good stuff got a Kenwood receiver into his five dollar bag, and was adding more. I tell you it's like pennies per item, IF you can find stuff that will sell. I've been doing this off and on for a long time, and now it's pretty much full time, and I still don't have a handle on what will sell quickly. Things surprise me, junk seems to bring good money fast, nice items either don't sell or take forever to move. New in the box still sealed items don't move as fast as ones that are not in the box and broken. Sometimes, like with fedora hats, I get more money for the beat up ones than I do nice ones.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 6 років тому +1

      I'll stop and look if I'm going by one, but I don't really go out of my way for the usual garage sales any more. tho sometimes if you ask, or you dig, you can come up with stuff, I sk for old watches or old razors. Sometimes they have something I can do well on but didn't think it worth selling so they didn't put it out. Still, most of the time they're not good, but certain high end neighborhoods I can do better, if they don't think their crap is made of gold and want too much. I like moving sales, church sales, and best of all, estate sales. Haven't been any good ones lately tho. there was one a couple of years ago... walk in the door it you walked into a time warp. hardly anything newer than the 70's, most older than that and all either in perfect shape or new in the box. I didn't have enough cash the first day to do a whole lot, but I still did all right, then the last day I hit it again for half price day... didn't get a lot but the lady running the sale made me a deal on an intercom system from the 60's, still in the box, never used, and one of the post marks said 61. She said 20, but being half price day, the lady at the register only charged me ten. I wound up getting close to 400 for it eventually. Stuff like that just doesn't happen often enough tho, mostly I have to eek out a bit here and a bit there with lower dollar items. High dollar items just don't move that fast.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 6 років тому +1

      In the city, yeah there are a few resellers, and I know who most of them are, except for one guy that looks a lot like me, we're really not competing since they buy different stuff for the most part. this one guy that looks like me, dresses like me, and has a beard like me, goes for the same things I generally do, and he's an early bird, always near first in line. The best company that did estate sales is now doing only auctions, except for once in a while then the items are too far away to haul to their auction bars. They priced stuff to move, they usually only had one day sales, and would move most everything in that one day. I don't like their auctions tho, they always try to sell the big stuff first, furniture and stuff I have no interest in. I went once, stayed from 10 am to 10 pm and the sale was still going, and people were bidding things up to a place where I could not make a decent profit on most items. I did manage to scoop a Russian made Balalaika, for 16 dollars, since even the auctioneer didn't know what it was, I got 150 for that, but most of the smalls were just unreasonably high when they did get to them. Another company that I haven't seen in a while, wouldn't much budge on prices, UNLESS you bundled. They loved to bundle, I could get bundles of many items often for the price of one item or less. Another company started out okay, but now they're trying to be high end, and sell fancy antiques and stuff... without actual provenance. They claim to have an expert appraise the items, but no written appraisal is given. once I looked at what they claimed to be a 1700's candle holder, it had modern phillips/slotted screws in it, it was definitely a reproduction, but they were trying to sell it at antique price. Mostly now I look for sales being run by individuals. Another company had an estate sale, they sold next to nothing, so two weekends later the family got in there and sold stuff at whatever price, and moved a lot of stuff, that company also has an antiques business, they charge up the wazoo when they have sales. a Pentax K-1000 film camera, they wanted 125 for, you can't get 25 for them these days. I got rid of mine when they were selling around 50.

    Hey Pete, So I've been flipping for years now and followed you for a long time. Now I run a pawn shop and was curious how you habe to handle buys in your store... for example anything we buy has to go on a 21-day police hold. And nightly the database of every item we take in, serial numbers, model numbers, descriptions, and sellers info is uploaded to the police. Do you deal in firearms? And... real estate expenses aside how much capital do you think I would need to initially build a large enough inventory to support myself flipping on a ramen noodle diet?

      Wow! I would love to be a fly on the wall in that place. I hear they have lost alot of longtime resellers and not as many buyers shopping on ebay as it used to be.

      EBay needs to pull it together, malls are closing across the country everyone is shopping online, for them to be doing bad is really sad.

    Great advice Pete, I already had come to this conclusion, when you first mentioned it. And it rings of truth. Those larger ticket items sell and set the tone for your week and maybe your month. So when you said it my ears really perked up.So many considerations for beginner/small sellers. Maybe space allowances, possibly funds to invest. Spending those assets wisely goes a long way. The benefits are great. Like everything it takes time. For those with limited funds. Like Pete said these are things to keep in mind. But over time try to phase it in. Love the advise. Thanks for all you do.

    Thanks for another great video Pete. You're right, it's so much better and easier to flip stuff with a bigger profit. It's better to spent more money on one or a few items than to buy a larger variety of low end stuff. So much less work and stress for a better result, although it's not always easy to find enough higher value items. We all need the bread and butter finds too, especially if you have to find that stuff piece by piece. Your store really helps you to go more straight in this direction with all the good inventory people are bringing in, but it's not impossible for us out there . We only have to find the right way to maintain this goal, and Lonnie is the best example that everyone can achieve it. He's really a good and honest guy and spent a lot of time to bring out great content, so we all can learn from his journey, and he becomes better and better every day. Thanks for the shout out Pete! That will help Lonnie to grow his channel a lot faster and he absolutely deserves it. Hope you will have a fun time with your boot. :)

    You are correct. I started selling cheaper items and slowly transitioned to more expensive items that make me more money. It works and I don't have the pressure that I need to sell a lot anymore.

    Pete, you know I admire the hell out of you & your teams work ethic in the reselling game. Not to mention that out of every single reseller that I have *ever* run across on-line, that you & the ‘gang’ top ‘ my list, as well. That said, in my world money is money, is money. No matter how many items you buy, list & then flip. Big ticket or not. Besides a *huge* part of the *fun* for me personally is going to thrift stores/shops looking for and or trying to stumble upon a diamond in the rough. I mean that certainly beats the alternative of hating your job & not wanting to get out of bed every morning to do it, no? Anyway that is my take. And as far as reselling goes, I *only* do it as a hobby. Having had longtime/full time job for darn near 20 years. Cheers !!!
