    I quickly realized how difficult reselling can be. There is far more to it then most of these UA-camrs mention in there videos. Although, I love the raw information you provide in your videos. Keep it up! Have a great day

    I think the thrift stores raising their prices has a lot to do with people giving up. Goodwills and Savers are everywhere, many people relied on them for sourcing and made it easy for people to get into the game. It was so much easier to find things from those stores a few years ago, now I don't bother with 90% of them.

  • @seaofredkc
    @seaofredkc 6 років тому +26

    People just don't wanna work these days!! They come into this thinking it's just gonna be all gravy on the side cash in pocket then they find out real quick that it's hard work and like running your own business, especially if you want to actually bring in $$! I have had 3-5 personal friends/girlfriends that need money bad and had no job & kids to feed and I offered to teach them all I know about the game and sat them side by side to me and my PC with a laptop showing them how to do everything.......1-3 days into it they all were like "shit...this isn't fun...this is hard work!" and I look over at the laptop and they are on Facebook or pandora just piddling and not researching or posting jack shit! PEOPLE ARE LAZY ANYMORE AND JUST WANT MONEY GIVEN TO THEM WITH OUT HAVING TO DO SHIT! So maybe its good for us who care enough to learn and put in the work.......maybe

      Never give money to people who don't want to help themselves. You are right, people are lazy as fuck and everyone wants handouts.

    • @seaofredkc
      @seaofredkc 6 років тому +3

      Yep! That's pretty much exactly how my experiences with people have turned out!! Then when seen the chick was using the laptop I gave her to just fuck off on FB.....I snatched that shit right up out her face & said "sorry but this ain't why i'm letting you use my shit! Plus you wasted my GD time trying to help your lazy ass"! Then I end up being the dick but oh well!! lol

    • @susiq4857
      @susiq4857 6 років тому +1

      Sad commentary on how lazy people are. The don't want to do any type of work at all, let alone reselling. That's why I hate free government handouts. People have no incentive to do for themselves.

  • @throttleblip1

    The real problem is that all of the thrift stores are charging more because they see the increase in demand based on TV shows and UA-cam channels. I live in metro Detroit and Salvation Army used to sell t-shirts for $0.50 to $1. Now those same items are $2-5 if not more.
    Salvation Army is gouging on prices over here

    It's all fun and games, then one has to research, photograph, list, package, etc., all those fun 'treasure hunting' finds, day after day, and then it isn't so fun anymore and they quit.

    This is what I think happened: the "Ebay gurus" saturated the market by telling people what brands to sells... Everybody started selling the same things... And the funny thing is I've seen some of those gurus asking what's going on... What happened to their sales?

      Crystal, if you are working ebay like a normal job then you need to make 50 cents per minute over 2080 hours and that equals $62,400. So every interaction with that item you are on the clock. That means sourcing, listing, shipping and any other administrative tasks. If you think you will make $5 on an item then your time spent with that item can't be more than 10 minutes or you are below target. An example of the 100 hour 8k profit is the idea of selling dollar store items on ebay. There are videos of people showing how they wrap up two bottles of shampoo or lotion to ship and the time spent doing that already puts them below minimum wage.

    • @soccjock7434
      @soccjock7434 6 років тому +6

      @Crystal - Yes, it's possible. I hit somewhere in between those numbers last year. It takes work, an extensive inventory (the more in-demand things you have for sale, the more money you'll make), research what people are looking for (this will take experience through time as well). Then buy low, and sell high on these items. Now, sure, people know the cliche phrase "buy low, sell high", but do they actually apply it in their business? It's important that they do. The inventory they pick up has got to have a good margin for it to be worth their time and effort to list. If you're only making a few dollars after all the fees are deducted on something you have to source, picture, measure, create a listing, package (when sold), and take to the post office, in my view, that's not really worth it. Sure, that business model could work for a period of time, but you're gonna burn yourself out and realize that you're not making much. Your time has to be valued, so find items that have good margins. Figure out what niche you want to go in, what people want in that niche, and where to repeatedly source those items.

    I'm willing to bet eBay has more sellers on it's platform than it's had in a long time or ever same with Amazon. As far as UA-cam reselling content there is only so much to talk about that's actually interesting and or helpful it's the people who are naturally entertaining and creative enough to keep people coming back.

    Hi Pete. Love your vids. I just wanted to say I think it's really helpful to see you saying 'No' to someone in the shop trying to sell you something (because there is no money in it for you). Saying 'No' to people trying to sell to you is an important lesson for all resellers to learn. It can save you a lot of hassle and wasted money. I bought some stuff before and wasted money.. Cheers again. Mike UK

    Pete. I noticed some similar trends. Many are saying ebay is "dead" and are trying different things. We made some adjustments a couple of years ago and we are doing great in a couple of niche categories. Recently there has been an over abundance of desirable merchandise at the thrift stores and I haven't run into any other resellers this year, except for a cashier at Goodwill. It is a lot of work maintaining a high volume store with only two people. The last job I had required 70 hour work weeks and running all day long without breaks. Now, I feel like I'm working part time and loving it. Mike

    I totally agree! I'm in it for the long haul! I've noticed here, in BC Canada anyway, that the prices are going up for the Thrift shops but that they also have signs on the doors every few weeks that say "Not accepting any more items at this time" So I think they will start to lower the prices if things aren't selling at their ridiculous prices. I can always find some real gems in the stores that they don't price high, just have to spend more time looking. Thanks Pete for all your great information.

    Pete I agree, I have been doing this now for exactly a year sale are up , average selling price is up and what I pick is better and better, for me is continuing to watch other resellers, and learn everyday is the key, I started my UA-cam channel to help out other Canadian reseller, not a big following yet but I have helped a few on shipping tips, buying tips and over all eBay Canada insights, My ebay store has been around since 1999, but the format I am selling in has been around for only one year. Watching guys like you has given me the confidence and knowledge for my business to grow from 0 to 5 to 6 k in sales a month, hoping to hit 10k a month in the coming year. What I've seen most is people think its list and forget the item. Which is a huge recipe for disaster prices on items change constantly especially clothing. Great insight!

    I started October 2017 and October 2018 one year doing reselling and I tell you what it is fun. I sold over 200 items and keep 40 items listed all the time and my goal is 10 or more on sells. Yes I have to have patience and yes sometime they don't but you know what I'm leaning. And my pictures are getting better. I like to thank you for your advice. Again thank you.

    I'm just getting back into it part time after my house burnt down a couple years ago. I love the "hunt" and hearing the Cha-Ching of a sale.

    I got your notifications, thanks for the info. I just stick to what I know on reselling and operate a very tiny reseller store for magic cards. Thanks for all your content and good luck with the shower tile and backyard! Cya, Sean C @ Gamer Treasures

    First comment,
    Great Video, about 1 year since i started reselling and this is my best month of pure reselling yet. I am lucky to have a base product I sell that keeps me stable but, I need to better organize my operations so I can spend more time building my inventory. If you ever need any silica gels, I am your man!

    Thank you Pete for saying it outloud !! I can see it, I can feel it...for one: the Gary V Flip Challenge 2017 flood gate is swinging back the other way ...and another: the rose glasses are tarnishing on several of the over zealous reseller/UA-cam newbies...I'm pretty excited for the opportunity boost from the predictable fallout. I sound a bit snarky, LOL, probably so on this topic :)

    I think the popularity of reseller really rose with shows like Pawnstars, people see customers selling things worth $1000+ that they picked up from garage sales or attics and they all hoped that they can do the same, but to their surprise, not only do you need to be lucky to be successful as a reseller, you need to WORK HARD.
