I've watched this video 10 times in a row. Living with the law changed my life and I don't know another artist with a more soulful voice and talent. He died so young but left such a gift of brilliant music behind.
The SINGLE MOST UNDERRATED artist of all-time. having your music haunt souls isn't a learning-based process, rather it's a by birth thing and Chris is a rightful owner of such thing....
This was the best version of this song I have heard, so powerful, I watch it over and over and i enjoy watching Chris perform his facial expressions and his cool natural, sex appeal he probably didn't even know he had.
I saw Chris Whitley in Sydney at the Basement in 2003 ,He was absolutely riveting. I was transfixed by his playing and sheer musicality and did not take my eyes from him the entire Gig, he seemed to be watching and playing to me. After the Gig he walked past me and acknowledged me for paying such close attention. He died in 2005 and I was very sad to hear that.
+hazor777 His Sydney shows were just Stunning. He played like a Man with no time to lose or questions to be left unanswered. He totally blew the audience away. He was mesmerising.
I was so looking forward to it, but had to leave as my sister had just died from a failed lung transplant and HE WOULD NOT STOP SMOKING IN BETWEEN SONGS-love all his records and love his resonator, just couldn't hack it at the time
i look back when i was working 3 jobs and slept 3 hours a night. one day found this cassetee of chris whitley living with the law and it was like his music was on synch with all the goings on of the wokign for the midnight oiil and holding ground and making it thorugh each day with hs gospel chris you really carried me through some hard times. your music willl always be in my heart. chris you are one of a kind. lindian mke wakefield ma
He was/is a damned good musician ! Unbelievable ! And I miss him ! He will always be my favorite artist till someone is carrying me with my feet first in front of !
Oh my god ...ik zag hem in de Vooruit in Gent...volledig van slag was ik...nooit gedacht dat zijn dochter Trixie..de erfenis zou verderzetten..ze is ook prachtig!!!
will say his guitar goes beyond what I ever imagined him having .. just thought ok steel .. slide, that but .. what a glorious guitar! beautiful here. at least these exist for us, those who never had enough.
Saw Him in Vancouver.... LUV LUV this man and my heart shattered when he died... cannot put words to watching the videos I can find and I am broken to learn he died basically destitute and alone - I always felt the spotlite made him uncomfortable but the music he felt pushed him - a sad loss
love this song... always from when I first heard it.. everything on the cd which had this song. the guitar he had in this vid; fabulous! amazing talent; taken too soon. very sad...
I think any musician worth their salt would know ,they could not do it justice , Chris Whitley was utterly unique , he ate sleeps and breathed music ,and I hope one day he is recognised with the great blues men . I saw him perform and as someone earlier said he was utterly captivating , but even then it was clear he wouldn’t make old bones ,perhaps he did all he was meant to do ! He was an amazing musician ,who was so gifted and had a range of an angel . We will remember him ❤
It's hard for me to understand Chris Whitley's facial expression... Usually you can tell if someone is happy or sad or whatever... But I can't really have a guess without a clue lol
I will never understand why Chris thought LWTL was a sellout of his integrity. It was perfect. It still is. John Mayer's version of this is pretty righteous, too.
his lyrics for me conjure visual images aside from the music/ vocals which are .. just could listen over and over (which I have on occasion)... have done paintings based on images from his lyrics..
yeah he had sum drugs sumtimes, i mean fuck ya gotta have the darkness to have an apreciation of the light-."martin luther king"His songs were mystical and deep, and most of all TRUE RIP bro
+chris pine I mean, WTF, I've never seen a video of him without those HUGE deer-in-the-headlights look....was he on speed? coke? They say he died from cancer...but you can't go for long like this...too bad, because I remember how much I loved this song when it came out, still do, and expected to hear lots from him...sad..RIP
An incredible artist, we blessed to have his music. God bless Chris Whitley
That National Guitar was always in Good Hands with Chris. Rest in Peace and Thank you. A TRUE ORIGINAL X

Je me souviens avoir vu cette émission en direct a la télé.Completement flashé, devenue fan en direct!!!

The guy was the definition of what a real "artist" is. I saw him several times, never disappointed. Just tragic he passed away so young......

Yeah, me too!!
A lot of the really great ones seem
to leave us way too soon.
Thank God for Clapton and Van Morisson!.
@@jameskey4633 I hear you. All these years later… hope you’re well. Whitley was a recon, for sure.
