I absolutely adore Keanu but his acting in that movie was one of the worst performances by a leading actor I've ever seen. Pacino and the story carried that movie on their shoulders. This movie was different and I did enjoy his acting here. Keanu, in general, is not a great actor imo. His character and life outside the movies are what I think make him so beloved.
Both Keanu reeves and Rachel Wise were amazing in this movie .For me, this was Keanu best movie ever and best DC movie ever .And Keanu like this movie better than his other movies .
I watched this in the theater wtih my mom back in 2005. We both went blind about Cosntatine and came out excited and amazed. It was such a thriller and overall really well made film. I know it doesn't respect the lore in many ways, not only in casting choices but roles, etc. But c'mon this was really well done! Sad the critics destroyed this one back then, principally people bitching about the comics and critics being really mean to Keanu. This one ended Keanu career as a lead of big blockbusters as the Matrix sequels weren't that succesful to be honest. Glad this underrated gem found the momentum among the niche, cult crowd. Because it deserves the status. I always wanted to revisited this Keanu-Constantine role and world. Back then it was really fucking impossible to greenlight a sequel for a franchise that was born dead, like this one was. I never thought the day a sequel like this was gonna make. This is the only aspect it's really good of this post 2010s Hollywood of reviving franchises that has much love from dedicated fans going on. In those days this would be unthinkable!
How the hell did I not know there was a post-credits scene all these years? I guess that's what I get for leaving the theater before the end credits are finished, but that wasn't very common with movies back in those days. This was a fun watch along. However, I'm a little disappointed Steph wasn't more scared. Steph being scared of a horror film is one of the most entertaining things you can ever see lol. You know what? No. Characters like Constantine and Swamp Thing are very much part of the DC Universe in the comics but hardly ever come to help or deal with what the Justice League deals with. They are always in the shadows, they deal with the supernatural and help each other, except for example the witch Zatanna, who's a friend of Batman (Batman, the detective he is, is also very much aware of many of these characters). And what's interesting is that the supernatural plane's outside the multiverse, God, angels, demons, hell, heaven. One of the reason I love Constantine is because the movie didn't have many instrumental music, only have the natural sound,it all depend on the sound of fallen angel, distraught demon, and human in lost, other are just so quiet, the sound of broken glass or the ringing sound of elevator enlarge to a level, the sound of whispering keep remind human are all close to the entrance of hell
Constantine 2 could have been DCs Deadpool when it comes to unexpected hits, but after teasing the possibility of a sequel it's apparently now back in limbo. They're cowards who can't recognize a good opportunity when they have one. At least we have this masterpiece. It really is one of the most underrated Keanu movies IMO. Considering it's almost 20 years old the visual effects still hold up in ways even the Marvel movies don't just 5 years later.
Son of a gun. I’ve seen this movie half a dozen times and an explanation for John drowning Angela is only now occurring to me. She had to die to see hell…but he had to kill her and she couldn’t know the plan; if she’d known, she would have been a suicide.
As many times as I've seen this movie, I've never seen the post credit scene with Chaz. That's pretty interesting and obviously leaves it open for a part 2 that Reeves has been pushing for.
I saw the movie dozens of times but that scene i only noticed a few weeks ago, checked my old CD's from back in the days, the scene is there, i just missed it
I love it when a movie teaches someone the lesson of just watching to see what happens instead of predicting. Steph was more on track for this one. If it's not MCU related, Andrew is pretty much a noob.
I love this movie. I'm not religious, but am a huge angel lore nerd. I rewatch this about once a year. You guys are absolutely right, the visual effects really do hold up!
The reason why Isabel killed herself is because she was influenced to do it. They needed a psychic twin on the other side, like a mirror to her twin to use as a conduit to cross over. I am surprised that you didn't realize that the devil is played the actor who played the brother to Viggo in the beginning of John Wick 2. Keanu always works with people he did past movies..especially from his Matrix days. Example: The stunt guy for him in The Matrix directed his John Wick movie. The woman who was married to the Maravingian character in the 2nd & 3rd Matrix played one of Dracula's concubines who fed off Jonathan, in Bram Stroker's Dracula movie. The hotel doctor in the John Wick movie also played the Key Maker in the 2nd Matrix movie. Of course, Mr. Morpheus himself showed up in John Wick 2. I love that Keanu does that and reaches back to pay it forward to other actors that helped push his career forward. I think Constantine is one of DC'S best comic book adaptations. I just hope the next script for part 2 is worthy and they don't botch it up like the Matrix 4 movie.
It is one of my favourite movies , Keanu Reeves never disappoint in terms of selecting films , a genius, till today his John Wick character is ausumn and he tooo.
This will always be one of my favorite movies. On paper, it seems just okay. Everyone is so perfectly cast, and it just works. The last 20 minutes or so kicks it up a notch for me. I was so happy to hear it might get a sequel, but noone seems to know anymore 😕
I know im late but they did such an amazing job on this movie and if you like the character you can watch Constantine tv show with Matt Ryan while we all wait for Constantine sequel with Keanu Reeves, btw its happening after almost 20 years. It only has 1 season with 9 episodes but its also done very well and Matt Ryan also did great job with the character. Its a bit different tone from Keanu Reeves version.
Keanu Reeves has been begging for a sequel and expansion of Constantine Universe as his personal wish. But sadly no writer or director has been paying heed to his request for years. He himself has claimed Constatine to be his favourite character played in his acting career more than john wick.
It's not completely accurate to the source material, but it's still an awesome movie. I think it gets a lot of respect it might not get simply because Keanu is in it. He's way different than the actual comic Constantine, which as been more faithfully translated via a show and some of the DC animated stuff.
a sequel would be awesome...I'd think it's far too late now though, but hell, sequel the movie & forget the comic with Keanu & Rachel returning 20 years later...take my $
Fantastic movie, with great characters, and all that texture and detail. Some random facts: John's apartment is over the bowling alley, which helps explains all the weird lighting. Michelle Monaghan was in it as a succubus from the comics, but mostly cut. All that's left is the shot from 22:26. I also think Matt Ryan from the TV show (etc) is great, and certainly more comic accurate.
A number of yrs went by before I finally saw this. When this came out, I wasn't really into the supernatural stuff. And I didn't know it was based on a DC character. Otherwise, I might have seen it sooner. It wasn't until the dc animated universe and the live action series, and the DCs legends show that I really liked the character and what he does. It was really the TV series that got me mostly and I saw the "based on the DC character" in the credits that got me and seeing the helmet of fate as an easter egg.
No. The point was to everyone else he looked like he was drinking. The triquetra amulet for protection of himself by blocking his own daemonic powers was removed. Side effects from using abilities was to hear hundreds of daemons reading for him in that state. He was trying to drown out the voices in his head because he lost the amulet. The half breed daemon in the store slowed time to prevent alcohol from entering the priests mouth. While the half breed also used his power to drown the priest from the inside. Either that or tortured him by hallucinations of never drinking all the while drinking. The first was more probable to me. Either way, it was a way of ending him without using physical means by contract of rules set angels vs daemon, God vs devil.
I saw this in theaters with zero idea what this was and had no clue it was a dc comic movie until just recently…my friend kim and I were in middle school and we snuck in lol.
I think a lot of the criticism of this film originally was from fans of the comic book- Everyone expected a Bowiesque English geezer and we got Keanu...
Thanks! Since you like the Daredevil series, I also recommend the only season of Constantine CBS made, played by Matt Ryan. It is pretty good in my opinion, it was a dark series because of the themes used. I heard that very conservative/religious folks had a huge problem with it and was a contributing factor to cancel it. I also love this movie and saw it in theaters. My ex wife also loves ❤ this adaptation of Constantine. There was a rumor there were going make Constantine 2 either before or during pandemic. Haven’t checked recently. We didn’t really mind it was not close to the source material or comic accurate. Lastly, they added Matt Ryan’s Constantine in the Arrowverse, which was cool, and animated Constantine: City of Demons.
I also enjoyed Lucifer on Netflix since it was cancelled after 3 seasons on FOX, and wrapped up in total of 5 or 6 seasons. I don’t mind seeing inclusivity of racial or sexual preference themes. However the later seasons times noticeable pandering to LGBTQ sometimes but, somehow it still worked since it’s about the Devil and sinning in different ways. It was just pushing politics over so hard that it was off putting. I didn’t realize these characters were based on DC comics and I forget the other company name Image or Vertigo maybe and called it the Hellblazer series and then just named Constantine.
Thank YOU! Sorry for responding so late! How long did the Constantine series run for? I also heard they were looking at revisiting Constantine. They're still making Matrix films so it shouldn't be too late to do more Constantine.
@@CinePals sorry too for the late response also. I am now able to respond after I had a medical emergency to attend to Constantine ran for 1 Season on CBS. There’s an animated movie also which was good. After Matt Ryan’s tv show got cancelled he did appear in Crisis of Infinite Earths even in the Arrowverse and Legends of Tomorrow, and again the animated movie. If you have any other inquiries please ask.

The character here is significantly different than the one in the comics, but both are pretty good in their own right.
They are writing a sequel to this movie before the writer strike. The date was supposed to be released Fall of 2024
I'v nvr evr seen that end scene 🤯 Didn't kno it existed! I'm well plsd I watched UR reaction 😍
32:39 Stormare's performance is usually regarded as one of the best portrayals of the devil
I watched Constantine so many times...but never watched after ending...man...I wanna watch it again...
This movie was different. 🔥
I love Keanu Reeves 🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
1 of the best movie with Reeves amazing Constantine 👼for me 4ever...💚💚💚💚
Have you ever seen Point Break? Patrick Swayze & Keanu Reeves, great movie.
Constantine lives above the bowling alley
This movie was banned from my local theater, and yes there is theaters that ban movies.
Keanu said this was one movie he would like to have done a sequel to it.
Constantine lives in an apartment above the bowling alley.
Cole lives in a basement below the parents.
I really liked A Walk in the Clouds. One of my favourite romantic dramas
This was the only movie I ever saw with my mom in the theater and she never watched movies like this!
The sequel is in the making. I wonder whether they're going to somehow incorporate Constantine's character into the DC Universe. That would be cool.
I think this movie is where keanu is the best in his acting and performance.
I love Keanu, he seems like a great guy. However, he can't act to save his life. He's always the same, always Ted Theodore logan. No exceptions.
