    Hard to believe someone would take a light with a spectrum that has set multiple world records for the highest yield on a single cannabis plant, and then replace that spectrum with a generic white COB LED that puts out 1/3 the PAR per watt and runs over 100 degrees hotter. Congrats on taking a great product and making it junk.

      Hey Growmau5! Glad you're back on YT!! Very usefull video for those who didn't have the chance to meet you a month before cxb3590 was released 😉😁! This kind of light changed the way I grow! I remember asking you about how to spread my COB the best way then asking you if hundreds of diodes wouldn't be better but it was too many soldering at this time! Now it is different so I don't know what to do for my next DIY built!??? What is the best DIY led now? Is it always Cree cxb3590? Is Cree will release CXC??? What would you build today!??
      Have a lifted one and lots of good vibes from France

      Martin Gailhofer hi! Thanks! You talk about the Samsung I guess! It is pcb with 288 small mid power led? How many watt is this ? How many mA? And the size of the pcb!? I saw 220lm/w!!! Wow my 180lm/w seem poor in comparison! I guess it is 0.2w diodes so 288x0.2 = 56w??? If I am correct and if i can add a potentiometer I will use one over each square meter! I saw it for 43 €! 144€ for 2 with the driver and everything else is it sound fair?
      Have a lifted one and lots of good vibes from France growers!

    I bought a cod upfront it was Chinese made that being said I have watched growmau lots and thought I made a good decision but plants didn't do well and seven months later it smoked, shorted out and was cooked. I did for once when I bought it did buy the insurance offered thankfully i did they paid me back in full less taxes so I still came out okay but I won't ever buy another cob but would build one because of growmau videos if I am doing well enough health wise that is i am losing the use ok my right hand due to arthritis so doubtful that will ever happen having my eighty second surgery the 30th my personal feelings if you don't ever build the education is priceless THANKS GROW

    Great video I'm I about to do something similar. To first get a heat zink then a driver then a fan. After that I will search for the Led chip. The problem with the led chip is that there are so many various models and generations so it is difficult to decide what led chip to go for. I would have probably one full spectrum 100w led chip/plant and use one unit per plant so the distance to the plant and position of the light can be dialed in more accurate then if a bigger unit is trying to cover a few plants.

    I'm wanting to mod my burned out leds with quad/triple/double or even single 5w diodes. I want them amped up though. I need a little guidance on power supply units. I have all kinds of power supplies for 3d printers, they appear to be the same ones but its hard to tell. The power supplies would have to be quite large and it looks like it goes from these adapter looking ones into 3d printer looking ones when you get higher power.

    I'm looking to build a 4 LED setup into a high bay reflective hood (16 inches in depth). Been looking around at different LEDs on the web and amazon then came across this video. Broadened my view on these newer chips (I build my own first LED grow light about 4 years ago with 10W red/blue chips). It worked but the chips started flashing; 'Im assuming due to heat or just low quality chips. This application is for a 4 x 4 grow tent.
    I also considered 60 or 10 degree lenses for better light penetrating, but settled on the metal reflector instead ($25 out the door on walmart website) and want to use 4 x 100W chips. I'm constantly going to the drawing board to find a good way to get good light penetration from a single light source/focal point.
    I enjoyed this video!

      @Th3_Gael 6 років тому +3

      Home Grow Homie its not really dangerous if you know what you're doing on the dc side.
      For folks with little knowledge take the safe approach and use clips 👍

    • @GrowMau5
      @GrowMau5  6 років тому +16

      Jim is right, for the un-initiated , aligator clips or even electrical tape is recommended. But its the current that kills you. Think of a tazzer its 20-50,000 volts but only 2-5 milliamps. Worst case, you poop your pants and pass out.
      But, safety first.

      If your not grounded or touching the return you are safe. The key is not the voltage but the current and the current needs to have a path through you before you will be hurt.
      Search for a video if repairing high voltage lines, they use helicopters and connect directly to the power line.

    Great video brother, but what if you wanna put a bigger driver in one of those import lights?

    • @Th3_Gael
      @Th3_Gael 6 років тому +1

      Hordaculprit that wouldnt be that difficult, it'll be like a new build with a ready made frame.
      Remember though that more power = more heat and there's not a massive amount of room in there for big heatsinks.
      From the looks of it in the video you might be able to reliably run cobs about 40-50W or so each.
      Tbf i wouldnt run cobs very hard in that fitting anyway as they're pretty close together.

    • @Th3_Gael
      @Th3_Gael 6 років тому +1

      Actually, if you were looking to replace all the drivers I'd save them for a proper diy build that spaces the cobs more evenly. This fitting with cobs run soft would be good for veg or a small grow, i wouldn't use it as a standalone grow lighting for anything else

    Hey how about adding some thermal grease to the contact surfaces? some regular PC grease (I think everybody should have some at home) should help getting your chip temps down even further. Oh and since we're at it, a CRI of 80 does not seem to be very good in emulating sunlight. Is there an improvement to be had over a CRI 80 LED, if I was using a like CRI 98 LED chip?

Also the LEDs (96x2) doesnt seem to have a heatsink on the back...just a loud fan inside, should I set heatsinks? do you have recommendations to replace fans for quieter ones? Hello, i have an issue with my grow light,
    I have a 480 2100B meanwell driver with dimmer knob and when i turn it past halfway it started to flash on and off,
    So i took the dimmer off to check if that was problem and the light did not come back on but just flashed only,
    So i put the dimmer back on it so i could at least us some light at the moment,
    Any help will be much appreciated thanks very much.
    I have it on 15amp wall plugin alone, and it did not do this until like the second day it came on with timer and as fine also at that point but about an hour later it started flashing above half power?

      The 3d printer is a prusa mk3, available ready built or in kit form.
      The screwdriver looks a lot like the wow stick from banggood, its a brilliant little thing.
      As for the camera i cant help but im sure mau5 mentioned the camera name in an older video

    I think I know the answer but.. I have one single led that keeps burning out, even after being replaced many times, would I be correct in thinking it's a faulty diode that's causing the same led to burn out??

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 6 років тому +1

      When you replaced it did you ensure it was making good thermal contact with the pcb? If it's getting hot it'll keep burning out. Also throw your multimeter in current mode and measure across the led, then measure across another similar one... If they have similar current numbers it's heat killing it. If the bad one is higher then maybe they threw a wrong resistor in at the factory, or one of yours has gone bad and is letting that led draw too much... But I don't think many manufacturers use resistors, so I'm guessing towards heat.

      volvo09 cheers for that, yea I did put new thermal paste on each time and make sure it was flush on the pcb, I'll have a look tomorrow though and track the fault down !it does have diodes though. I.imgur.com/7cipOoM.jpg your help is much appreciated!!! :)
