    I have the older version and I had a real issue with the resistance restricting my high range and tone. It turned into a "if I can play it with the mute, I can definitely play it without". It also made the horn incredibly front-heavy and uncomfortable to hold. Good to know that they fixed those issues. Also, plugging the mute into a guitar amp and playing with the effects is a crazy good time. I once did it for a jazz concert and the audience loved it. Maniacal 4 also used one in their Carry on my Wayward Son video. Carry On Wayward Son - Maniacal 4 Trombone Quartet I may purchase this new one and use my old one as a warm-up mute.

    I got my silent brass mute after seeing this video. ITS SO FREAKIN AWESOME. And i plugged it into a guitar amp at my school and it sounded like an electric guitar, is so freakin sick.

    Thanks for doing the review. My son just started playing the trombone in 6th grade, so it re-kindled my interest as well. I haven't played in 20 years. I bought the Silent Brass System based on your review. I work out of town during the week and live in a camper. So practicing quietly is of great interest. It works great. I don't have to worry about disturbing others at all now. Thanks man.

    How loud/quiet is it from an outside perspective, im hoping to use this thing when my band director decides to work with the clarinets for half an hour and i want to know if this is quiet enough for that, or if it's just for home use

    Just wondering if you could help me out, does the trombone silent mute fit the baritone? I’ve decided to play again after 20 years of regrettably not playing but this mute seems a great idea for me to practice with as to not annoy the neighbours at this early stage of me getting back in the saddle.

    Can you plug headphones straight into the mute itself without the Yamaha system?

    • @classicaltrombone
      @classicaltrombone  5 років тому +1

      You need the Yamaha system. There's no battery in the mute itself, so no signal comes through without it.

    • @classicaltrombone
      @classicaltrombone  10 років тому +7

      I remember really not liking the old one when I tried it a few years ago. I don't know if it really got that much better or maybe I just got better, but the short answer is yes! The sound and back-pressure is both improved.

      The main difference is the mute itself. I have the older SB mute and sometimes it can fall out easier since it's so big and bulky.

    Hey! How do you connect your silent brass to your tc helcion effect block? Do you use different pre amp that the one that comes with the mute? Are you using minijack to xlr?

  • @paigenewkirk
    @paigenewkirk 9 років тому +1

    Can you set up the silent brass system to use in a duet setting? For example, can you "mute" two trombones and use a splitter or some other device so that both trombone players can simultaneously hear each other while they are both using the silent brass system?

    • @jamesmeehan8130
      @jamesmeehan8130 8 років тому

      +paigenewkirk yes, but fiddly. If you use the output from each mute to a mixer and then split the headphone signal from mixer to headphones.

    I've got the previous version but when I play a long time it feel quite heavy. My trombone also lean in front of me because of the weight of the mute. Do you know if this version is lighter than the older one ? Or does it feel too heavy when you play a long time with it ? thanks ;)

    • @savetheclimate2292
      @savetheclimate2292 3 роки тому

      My experience with the old one is that it changes the responsiveness of the instrument quite a bit. After using it for a couple of days I was always surprised how much it changes my buzzing technique. So I used the mute rather for practicing and improving my buzzing sound.

The reason why is that I have tried several ones and none except a pair of old chat headsets, the Sennheiser PC 3... gives me this true color, sound of the trombone... I have been looking for something with same tech specs but unfortunately no luck... So, do you have a pair of headset you can recommend me? Cheers, Al

    • @LowReedExpert1
      @LowReedExpert1 10 років тому

      they cost a pretty penny,, however you could just buy a normal practice mute for cheaper

    • @JessieVesco
      @JessieVesco 10 років тому

      Ah but does it completely mute the sound like this one does? My mom seems to hear every little thing xD the sound carries through out my house pretty well

    • @LowReedExpert1
      @LowReedExpert1 10 років тому

      Jessie Vesco In my experience, they mute the sound just as well, but the down side is there is a good ton of back pressure. If you got the cash to spend, go silent brss all the way. But otherwise, the traditional practice mute itself can do the job

    • @JessieVesco
      @JessieVesco 10 років тому
