So, after 25 some years of not having put a trumpet to my lips, I had this impulse to buy a horn after hearing "Baby Elephant Walk" and having a flash back to high school jazz band. So now i gotta relearn how to play again. I enjoyed the hell outta playing trumpet, but after it was stolen from me i never got another one until two days ago. I will for sure be buying one of these so that i can practice whether i so choose/have extra free time. Thank you to the geniuses that created this little gem of tech!
I'm going to buy one of these online.. but I have to mention this: That sweet guy playing the trombone at 2:25 had me laughing so much.. he barely got 2 notes out and was so astonished.. most of the reactions in this video just tickled me.. but I was browsing for a good mute.. and this is exactly what I'm looking for.. great reviews! I got all my questions answered just by listening to them... and all well- conditioned players so they know what they are talking about, I would feel very comfortable buying this product!
+Bianca B. Garvin i have it on my ytr6335g intermedian trumpet it is Perfect for practising at home it is verey quiet and has a Perfect Balance in the horn it has reverb on/off and one in/output but it has a drawback it Plays out of tune in sertan notes in the scale mine does it almoast a semitone flat but i can live With that to Next generation is out on the marked in some yers
hi I'm a beginner trumpet player. and have just bought the silent brass, because I'm a bit embarrassed to practise playing the very lite basic I can, in my small apartment. so far I'm just getting comfortable with the lower notes, like low c d e f and g. and without the silent brass I feel like they sound somewhat OK. but as soon I punt on the mute, the tones sound very of and flat an very "buzzingy". like on the C it just sound like I'm doing a bad farting sound. any tips for me ?? to make it sound like actual notes ??
Well, the thing is, if you plug the bell of the saxophone up, it will not work because like many woodwind instruments, the sound travels through the many different holes in the instrument (like the ones under the keys, if that’s a good way to explain it). So plugging up the bell won’t do much. They do make saxophone mutes which cover up the whole saxophone but they’re very expensive unfortunately.
I'm wondering if an external soundcard can be used to amplify the cornet by plugging the minijack into it? Or is there software inside the little box that simulates the sound? I have a Line6 UX1 (with an adapter for minijack to bigger jack)
I think you would just need the double-male lead. One end plugs into the device, the other into your PA or other recording device. Could prolly plug it into your cell phone if you wanted
Hi there, Is it possible to plug the pick up mute directly into say a di/ interface/ fx unit/ mixing desk like a normal dynamic mic or does it need to be powered by the personal studio?
I one time heard some guy say that kids are spoiled with stuff like this and I scoffed. I hate people that like to reminisce and recall the "old times" and are total hardheads about everything else. The guy didn't ever try one either.
It may be new, but all those trailing wires bleargh! Have Yamaha never heard of Bluetooth? I bet you still have to put batteries in it. It's not new, it's just a rehash. I don't like it. I've got one, and I don't use it.
Yah know what I hated about most of these people? Half of them had the bottoms parts of their fingers going on the buttons. Their fingers wrapped around the entire button. Such an irreversible habit.
Sgt. Anarchy you're not supposed to puff your cheeks either, but famous players like Louis Armstrong did anyway but they still sound great. It's not about posture or anything. None of that matters if you're a professional and know that it will not affect your playing.

Now you won't have to get the police called on you if you wanna practice!
Wouldn't it be a bit awkward for french horn players because they have their hand up the bell where the mute is?
+Quinn Culver is there a mute for French horn or do you use trombone one or trumpet
I have one and use it. However, I quickly ditched the $1.25 earphones. And WHEN will they introduce Bluetooth.
i don't even play brass and I think that's way cool! :)
Great Now I can do My scale exercise Anytime a night without disturbing the neighbors
I have one, it's great .. If you need to practice at any time the Silent Brass is the way to go..
I'm about to buy my second one for my flugelhorn...
Is this much better than the previous version(like 10-11 years ago)?
How does it compare to the shhmute in terms of resistance?
Wish they got it right the first time. I have the old version and it isn't good for much other than a warmup mute.
that looks excellent. I wish I could try one of those some day.
How much is it cost? Cant see it on Yamaha site?
What would Miles Davis say? :)

you can actually record on this mute. Maybe upload a video so we can hear you, better than reading descriptions.
Quit all together
i got one question is this thing will work with alt saxophone?
Look into an Electronic Wind Instrument! They're more in line with what you'll be able to use

Snader you can even this. m.ua-cam.com/video/7PlpyEee6ZM/v-deo.html
Frank? I think you misspelled Wahlberg
Can you record audio from it like an impromptu mic?
Flaming Moose yes, the audio quality is superb, you can hook the silent brass thing to almost anything
I think you would just need the double-male lead. One end plugs into the device, the other into your PA or other recording device. Could prolly plug it into your cell phone if you wanted
What is the model of the mute??
Hi there, Is it possible to plug the pick up mute directly into say a di/ interface/ fx unit/ mixing desk like a normal dynamic mic or does it need to be powered by the personal studio?

Can it used on sax contralto? There is something similar?
No. Nothing for woodwind.

im excited to buy now hehehehe....i wish im improve alot caz i can play anytime anywhere
Damn I wish they made Somthing like this for saxophone
There is something from the Yamaha go search on UA-cam
Make this for woodwinds please! :D
a mute for each hole? :-P
Since the air is venting out from the holes in the instrument, you would have to plug up every hole, making the instrument unplayable.
I thought trumpet players couldn't get any more cocky. Now we found a way to only hear the important instruments
The old Silent Brass is simply terrible. Hope they improved with this new one.
You have not shown us those who have thrown this thing immediately into the
trash can.
I need one my wife is a hater, she tells me I don`t want to hear that shit.
Get one of these or another wife. 😂😂😂Totally kidding about the wife but this for sure!

Sgt. Anarchy they're pros tho can't really shit on them
