Or they have this kind of tech that could differentiate a missile from an airplane?
Jeffrey Phandani I would imagine military radars can differentiate between a commercial airline, a military aircraft or a missile. I dont see where the human error could have occurred. But then again, they wouldn’t blame it on their military capability.
im from iran ... they hit the plane on purpose .. there is no way they cant figure out this was a passenger plane .. radars for air defense have range of about 40km .. and airport is about less than 10 km far .. so they could literally see the plane take off from 0 speed .. they could clearly see in radar that this plane is on the airport ... it wasnt an accident .. it was on PURPOSE !!! it was terrorist attack by our government to cover up the fact that they trade general soleymani's life with some empty warehouse on iraq that belong to USA ( they told USA officials that they want to attack which bases before they launched missiles ) .. so they can have few days of propaganda against USA and unite our ppl to be on their side because normally ppl in iran are against this regime and want them gone .. they bought themselves time and opportunity to Brainwash naive ppl ... but tnx god their plan failed ... but so sad that it cost 176 life ... !!!!!!!

In 1988 the US government admitted within hours to having shot down the plane and subsequently paid a large compensation to the victims' families. Iranian government's actions do not seem to be of a similar manner as they shamefully tried to cover up the downing and to lie to the international community until it proved impossible (they now even jailed the person who filmed the missile strike). If you don't defend yourself and the plane turns out to be hostile you get blown up like the USS Stark. The two cases are completely different. The main difference between the cases is the American captain had no way of knowing the origin and nature of the incoming flight whereas the Iranian case involves an outgoing flight from your own airport under the guidance of Iranian air traffic controllers. The Iranians have no excuses thru simply should have known thst the plane wasn't a military plane simply due to the direction the plane was flying. The question is why the transponder stopped responding before 6:15 am while it was still flying and before it was hit by a missile 30 seconds later? What caused the transponder to stop sending signals just (30 seconds) before it was hit?
The military prolly jammed the signals. :/
