Old video but had to look this subject up. I have supination which causes me to end up in extreme pain on the top of my foot. Air cast for 2 weeks, then slowly getting back to normal show with expensive insoles. 1 week at work (hospital employee on my feet for 10-12 hours a day) and I was starting to get the pain back, even with special insoles for supination. Just bought a pair of KEEN rocker shoes 2 days ago. Been on my feet all day today and I have NO PAIN! This is incredible!
I have been looking for shoes that will relieve my metatarsalgia and have bought quite a few to try but never thought of getting rocker bottom shoes. I will try this then. Thank you for making this video. . .
Hokas are great at falling apart if worn daily. As a large store manager with horrible high arch issues and extreme Plantars I walk 5 to 7 miles daily. Hokas do work for a month and then they fall apart at $180 a pair. New Balance has an x4 which works the same and last about 6 months.
Which New Balance? Have you tried the New Balance 928v3? A lot of people highly recommend them. I'm trying them now, just starting after a foot fracture that I'm still healing from.
If you have a bone spur do not use this shoe as the material is not soft enough 2:12 . You’d have to modify as you will grow a bone spur as the top rubs on it. Notice a red spot when you remove if you see a red circle you are creating a bone spur that will get bigger and bigger.
Well done, thanks. Have hallux rigidus and have been wearing steel shank mountaineering boots so that my toe does not flex but, would like to find a more comfortable solution. The MBT doesn't seem to have much "rocker". Thinking of trying them anyway based on your vid.
So true!! Got metatarsgalia, ankel arthrosis, heel spare and Willis-Ekbom Syndrom in my feet. Use arthritis crutch but also MBT sandals. Try to have made special sandals that can be used with ordinary shoes. I have wider feet so ordinary MBT shoes are small.
I have a large bunion on my right foot with a hammertoe. Had surgery on my right foot and unfortunately the bunion is coming back. Would also like to know would a rocker bottom help?
Well those are big words I've never heard of. I got something and the flat new sneakers hurt me feet. I was thinking why do my feet flop flop when I walk. Might need a rounder bottom shoe. A slight bowed at the knees ain't helping either. If have to stretch my calf muscles all the time. I feel stiff legged. Well not to mention meds do screw with muscle stiffness and cramps. I try them. Thanks for the explanation, good shirt video.
What tennis shoe would you recommend for metatarsalgia? I have a fused great toe, and at 61, have taken up tennis. Getting a lot of paid on the 2nd toe knuckle.
Hi Peter, Kudos for starting up tennis. I hope to do the same soon. To answer your question, the shoe is not as big a factor as the insole when it comes to metatarsal pain. The insole and placement of a metatarsal pad is way more important. Calf flexibility can make a big difference on forefoot pressure also. I would recommend the Tread Labs insole with a metatarsal pad. Full disclosure, I am an affiliate for tread labs but this is the insole I use with my patients and used before I became an affiliate. alnk.to/gzV7Fjr Here is a video about how to use it best: ua-cam.com/video/MSYzdTfcczA/v-deo.html How to best stretch the calf: ua-cam.com/video/XMS0MoRyLHE/v-deo.html I hope this helps. Best of luck!
I have had issues with Insertional Achilles Tendonits/Achilles Bursitis and I have heard differing opinions about wearing rocker bottom shoes for this condition. One podiatrist told me that a rocker bottom is not good for this and can cause more strain, inflammation and even further damage to the Insertional AT area. What is your opinion? Thank you.
I have hallux limitus in one foot and sinus tarsi syndrome/arthritis in my other foot/ankle. The Hoka bondi is good on my ankle but it doesn't rock or isn't stiff-toed enough for my hallux limitis. If I can get the Asics Glideride would that be bad for my ankle? It's more of an extreme rocker with a carbon fiber plate. I thought the rocker made the ankle more unstable. I've tried on so many shoes and nothing has helped both of my issues at once. The specialty shoe store probably thinks I'm crazy!
I had a Left Lower Double Arthrodesis, Achilles Lengthening and Tibial Autograph for Fusion surgery. I am buying Rocker Bottom Shoe's. Is it normal for people who have had my surgery to be stiff in that foot after getting a cast off? I know I'll need to do Physical Therapy but my Orthopedic was acting like I shouldn't be as stiff as I am when he tried to move my foot.
Osteoarthritis in my big toe joint at the age of 46. Carry a bit more timber then I should be working to reduce that and I want to get back hiking again but as you can imagine, this toe is causing me problems daily and I'm not at the stage where I want to spend thousands getting it repaired, if that's possible. Guys, would you recommend a Hoka One One shoe?
I have what you have. Tradie all my life. Get a good podiatrist who can give you some exercises to help. A moving arthritic joint is better than a stiff one! I use the Hoka Bondi when I can! Life saver for my feet. Another thing that has helped heaps is cutting out as much flammatory food as possible. Pain is 60-70% better just by doing that.
I had plantar fasciitis this past summer, and i am now at the end of a stress fracture recovery to my second metatarsal. I'm just starting to walk in my normal running shoe again. I have to say I'm a bit tramatized and afraid to get started running again or even walk long distances. I'm not sure i will return to running. I was in a post-op shoe for 10 weeks. When i walk in my shoe, which is a brooks ghost shoe, i still feel i bit sore underneath the toe. I cracked the top of the toe. I'm not sure why. Do you think a Hoka might be a better shoe for this problem? My Brooks are a bit bendy in the toe.
I had surgery on my ankle and then they put pans in my foot and I’m supposed to wear rock bottoms shoes do y’all fit for a rocker bottom shri what is your favorite
Thanks for this. I'm a recent convert to Hoka running shoes for this reason. Still trying to find shoes for walking & everyday use. Other than Hoka & MBT are the any other brands making this kind of shoe? I'm not asking for you to recommend particular brands/shoes (though I'd thank you if you did!) but just mention other brands I can check out too because I'm struggling to find them.

I’ve been wearing rocker shoes for a long time. What happens is they breakdown and causes more problems with my foot? I have capsulitis due to the shoes. What shoes would you recommend besides a rocker because I can’t go on like this I’m 72 years old and I cannot handle this anymore these rockers.

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for giving out a brand of shoe to try that has a rocker bottom (MBT).
You really do put out some great information and do a great job on these videos!
I appreciate that Richard!
Great explanation. Work in running store, someone asked me what is non-running benefit of rocker.

I got a pair of these hoka shoes, they hurt my hallux rigidus more.
Been wearing Hykes Escapes barefoot shoes and love them, will never go back to regular shoes.

Is there a recommended rocker bottom shoe for tennis???
You don’t wear rocker bottoms for tennis, that’s terrible idea. Tennis is lateral movement , you need lateral stabilty. Rocker has none
