I know there are more fun cars out there like Veloster N. But those cars look and feel like shit boxes. I can enjoy the GTI more of the time. For majority of the people I would think that the car would be used mostly stuck in traffic also.
This is actually very true. The Veloster N might seem cooler to look at and seem better, but it isn’t. I test drove one recently and it was kinda disappointing idk if it’s because the previous owner was harsh on it or what, but the brakes seemed like the were corroded already and was only at 8k miles. Keep in mind I do live in Alaska as well so perhaps that could be why, but I don’t think a new car should feel like that. It’s also hard to see out of the rear view window.

Yes, this is no super hatch, yes, it is underpowered, is it fun? Hell yeah man! Do I have to row the gears more to stay in the power band on back roads? Of course I do, but that is what makes this car fun. Can I get a Stage 1 tune? yeah, will I no. The car is fine the way it is for me with the exception of the exhaust note, and that will be changing with a AWE track back. All in all a GTI is a culture, a car for enthusiasts who want performance yet want practicality. Go figure... I can’t possibly know your driving capabilities nor you mine, but, I assure you were I to take you, or most any enthusiast for and all out run, street or track, the last thing most would say post ride (especially on the street) is “that car needs more power”. Depending on how you use it it might not have as much power as you want (who would argue that, I’ve modified my ZX14 for more power), but far more than needed for sane street work for the vast majority of owners. Want and need are two completely different things of course. The GTI only needs light wheels, sticky performance tires, and maybe better brake pads (~2.7K) to induce said pucker factor. This is the perfect series at the perfect time. When you made the 350z series I was 16 working at Wendy’s trying to buy a 350z now I own a Miata as something cheaper but still fun now I’m upgrading to a gti and actually in the position to do so and your making a series about it crazy to think about
Nice video. I to went from an STI to a golf. I won't lie I miss my Sti and it was everything I expected. But having I had and Evo, two different mustangs, a Fiesta St, and the Sti. And honestly this my golf I feel is the most complete daily driver car. And there's a huge amount potential. Great videos keep posting.
Vdubs as a brand are like Jeeps. They have their following. You either like them or you don't. You "Get" them or you don't. Owners of these cars will understand what I'm saying😎
Bro u r right about age demographics...I'm 65 and own a '17 that's got a Unitronic stage-1+ tune and a DKM stage 2 clutch. It is f*in quick and has astonishing top end pull - 130+... I have a blast EVERY TIME I plunk my ass on the plaid. Good vid. Keep'er between the lines.
I think I disagree. At least in part. I love my gti. I don't have the dsg though. I do think the car is fun stock though. Now I do agree that you expect more, because of ask the hype and the history. But the GTI history is that it's a great riding and driving hot hatch. Comfortable, smooth, easy to drive car for everyday. But then also plenty capable and quick ENOUGH, when you're ready to play.
Love my FoST (ST3) but the reason I bought it was because GTI's in my area were abought $4k more expensive. No doubt a great first sports car if it's in your budget
GTI is great but try the difference and tune a *Golf R* man, *AWD* They can do a lot, seen some crazy high whp drag R builds too! I have an MK7 I daily now and only have had it for a short time and already tuned and modded it to 400 buffhorses it’s nutty and I’m not even done yet hahaa
A tune Is all the car needs, even just a small one. It really shows what it was meant to do. Test drove my bud's my mk6 gti cobb tuned and it was an absolute menace. Fun as fuck to drive and felt more connected to the car. You could say that about any car but I think with the GTI a tune feels like it's needed if you're trying to find what you're looking for in a GTI
I have an SE and I honestly couldn’t love it anymore. It does have its flaws tho. Not as fast as I’d like stock but if you’re looking for speed a stock GTI isn’t what you should be looking for. The DSG is lovely but mines a little “off” at times. The pros outweigh the cons for me. Great interior and great tuneability. Sport mode is literally where it’s at.
I am in high school and have the same car but the performance pack and would totally agree it’s boring af stock. then when I went apr stage 2 and the car got 10x better the stock
the 1st time you drive a GTI...should be with a Manual...just saying...my 1st manual was a Mazda protege5 and when I 1st drove a gti I was impressed...i don't really get the whole love for dsg unless u get the dsg tune to match..then its a blast
I live in Seattle, GTI is great for city drive, curb parking isn’t much of a problem with the hatch either. My car is stock so I don’t dare drive it like I stole it cuz I might get gapped by any late 2020 model sedans Lmao.
My stock MK6 GTI is plenty fast for me! Straight line speed doesn't matter to me. It's carving up a twisty mountain road that I enjoy! Drive mode should be called "bog" mode. I drive in manual mode most the time because I like the engine to rev up when I'm getting up to speed and once I'm just cruising along I put it in high gear to let it get max MPG.
Now after owning my MS3 for 5 years, the GTI being comfy and more restrained IS the hype. I'm certain if I would've bought one over my MS3, I probably wouldn't be looking to replace it like I am my MS3! Moving into a different stage of my life, I really wish I had something that wasn't unbearable for my passengers, and that wasn't as visually... loud? Happy? I still don't know how to describe the MS3 haha.
I had a 08 MS3 - with only an intake and 128K on the odometer, it felt faster than my 16 Golf R right after I bought it in late 2015. Fortunately I was able to rectify that with an APR Stage 1 two weeks after taking delivery of my Golf R. That was an instant cure for my buyer's remorse. Now with an APR Stage 2, the car is now the fastest car I have ever owned or driven.
I’m enjoying myfirst car ( 2.5l golf stock ) and I am really curious about gti they are pretty cool and I think lots of people want them cause they had fun with a basic cheap golf and they want to see the better version of it
only mods you really need is a stage 2 and a Downpipe. Prolly an intercooler too if you really wanted. These cars max out at 350hp for the stock turbo. No point in spending a ton of money on an exhaust, intake, etc... all these manufacturers want now a days is money so of course they are gonna try to sell you mods that you don’t even need.
Facts facts facts listen to this man. I had a all black limited WRX not the sti 🤮🤮🤮 stocked. Horrible experience real talk You must modified the doors off that car minds was a stick shift never again 💯☮️
I got mine a month ago , has intake, turbo inlet and TCR axle back, most likely getting a DP next month and tune or jb4. Probably going jb4 to try and save the warranty lol I only have 2500 miles on the thing
If ur gonna tune u gotta think do I wanna do dig races or roll races. For dig races pick golf r. Roll races = gti. They have the same engine but the golf r had beefed up internals and a bigger turbo.
Which would you pick; a 2020 STi or a GTI? I am between the two and a camaro SS. At least the GTI gets pretty dang good MPG and they are quicker than an STI. Really it takes a lot of mods on an STI to keep up with a GTI with lesser mods. Plus the EJs from everything I am reading seems to be very unreliable. I would love an STI but I hate reading the posts every day on FB that someone blew up their STI. Granted the one I am looking at has the stock powertrain warranty left for 4 years and 35,000 more miles, but it would greatly suck if it blew and I was down for a while. I do have an F150 and Jeep wrangler, but that is back at home and not here with me at graduate school (well I can't have two vehicles at one time). I take very good care of my cars but I do drive them pretty hard at times.
I wanted a gti but with my new family and baby, finances and everything… i got a Tiguan. 2013 for $6k in good condition, base model fwd auto. I did stage 2 and it’s faster than my friends stage 1 mk 6 gti in straight line 😂 with car seat in back for 1/2 the price
Just picked up a 2021 a couple weeks ago. Just subbed for some upgrade tips👀 love my stock GTI coming from a MK6 TDI hatch. Traded massive torque for a more sporty feel and better upgrade abilities. Do you have any issues with warranties with your upgrades?
Just skip stage 1 and go stage 2 I went jb4 then stage 2 6 months later So much faster got the pops and bangs also from Integrated engineering with a dsg tune
a easy and quick way to make some more power without touching anything is the ecu tune. u can get a easy 20hp from a stage 1 without doing any other nodding or damaging the engine at all
I love my Focus ST but when it comes to 5 hours or 6 hours in the car, it is not comfortable. Going to the beach a few hours away or to the mountains for snowboarding it is fine but anything past that 5 hour mark..the seats just start to get to you, your legs get tired, your back is ready for a break. Like I said just my .02... super excited for this build series
Affirm the devils magic, Afterpay is worse, I caught myself paying 700 bucks every two weeks for like a year & a half straight.. Payed my CTR off and didn’t enjoy the fact not having a car payment because I was spending 1400 a month on parts payments, as soon as I payed it off boom my dumb self started another order. Thank god that’s over
If you need a daily I'd definitely recommend a GTI. Much easier on your wallet (gas and insurance is probably cheaper) and it's got plenty of space. A Corvette would make a great weekend car though

if you are a 19 year old and want a sick car with lots of room fore even more fun i highly recommend i recently got a 2007 gti 2 door the amount of fun i have had is unreal dont under estimate this cars size and cant wait to mod it.
I think this guy is the only car guy I don’t get sick of this guy is chill asf
I had a MK5 but she needed so much work so i traded it in. The 7.5 i got feels caged even in sport mode and sport dsg mode. Can't wait to get some mods into it.
This is the perfect series at the perfect time. When you made the 350z series I was 16 working at Wendy’s trying to buy a 350z now I own a Miata as something cheaper but still fun now I’m upgrading to a gti and actually in the position to do so and your making a series about it crazy to think about
Love to hear this! I appreciate you being here
Met you at Jackson two years ago, keep on grinding you got this!!
loved today's video very informative. Love how almost anybody can get into the car community.
excited to see what you do to the GTI!
Very wise advice! Take your time. I have a golf R and I slowly bought items to go stage 2... worth it! The MQB platform it’s so fun tuned!
friend just picked one up cant wait to see this build
I've had my '15 GTI since it was new. Threw in a is38 turbo, UM tuned/tcu, dp, ic, intake, etc. Car pulls like a freight train now.
You must have never had a quick car
I’ve had my gti since last august sadly she’s still stock but I still have my fun in it
Loser
@@gustavopaulette3496 lol whatever you say Gustavo
@@allan8524 😂😂😂 I feel u bro I spent all my money on my mk7 gti 6 speed and just have a rev9 catback but still fun
@@allan8524 solowerks s1 and tune + downpipe next
And he keeps it real no stupid intros and pointless talking gets straight to the point
Its had a focus se with the dual clutch, thing drove so oddly. Now i have an st and the difference is absolutely insane.
worst dual clutch transmission ever made
GTI is great but try the difference and tune a *Golf R* man, *AWD*
They can do a lot, seen some crazy high whp drag R builds too!
Three pedals till I die 🤘
they still make the focus models but only in Britain sadly , the designer took his ownership of the hatchback model back
Wanted one a wile ago and was tempted to get something else but now you got one and are gonna walk through the process definitely getting one lmao
I live in Seattle, GTI is great for city drive, curb parking isn’t much of a problem with the hatch either. My car is stock so I don’t dare drive it like I stole it cuz I might get gapped by any late 2020 model sedans Lmao.
My gti still stock and dsg and im loving it..im planning ecu flush apr stage im sure is gonna be more fun..👍👍
Please stay until the end, he’s speaking FACTS!
Very well spoken. Nice video man
I thought this video would Have over 500k views ????? Only 20k Man U will blow up good vidro
4:57 is bang on
My guy has owned almost all the hot hatches
Probably going jb4 to try and save the warranty lol I only have 2500 miles on the thing
im thinking of getting a mk7 GTI or mk7 golf r
If ur gonna tune u gotta think do I wanna do dig races or roll races. For dig races pick golf r. Roll races = gti. They have the same engine but the golf r had beefed up internals and a bigger turbo.
Have you done the dsg tune ? It's a night and day difference
In Italy, you remap the dsg map
Dsg tune? How different is it?
My vw rabbit is stock and that thing is hella fun to drive
Just skip stage 1 and go stage 2
I went jb4 then stage 2 6 months later
So much faster got the pops and bangs also from Integrated engineering with a dsg tune
What’s the price for a tune I got a mk7 tsi 2015 se????
Where is a better handling ? Gti or Mazdaspeed 3 ?
Im getting a 2010 Volkswagen gti, and just wondering what should I do for a tune first? Nothing too much, as I am on a lower budget.
a easy and quick way to make some more power without touching anything is the ecu tune. u can get a easy 20hp from a stage 1 without doing any other nodding or damaging the engine at all
Would you say that this is better to drive stock than a focus st?
I love my Focus ST but when it comes to 5 hours or 6 hours in the car, it is not comfortable. Going to the beach a few hours away or to the mountains for snowboarding it is fine but anything past that 5 hour mark..the seats just start to get to you, your legs get tired, your back is ready for a break. Like I said just my .02... super excited for this build series
Alot of the boringness is from it being an auto having a manual gti is so much more fun and negates alot of the issues you were talking about
Affirm the devils magic, Afterpay is worse, I caught myself paying 700 bucks every two weeks for like a year & a half straight.. Payed my CTR off and didn’t enjoy the fact not having a car payment because I was spending 1400 a month on parts payments, as soon as I payed it off boom my dumb self started another order. Thank god that’s over
im looking between a c6 vette and a 2015 gti, and im struggling in a decision because i need a daily but i want something fast
If you need a daily I'd definitely recommend a GTI. Much easier on your wallet (gas and insurance is probably cheaper) and it's got plenty of space. A Corvette would make a great weekend car though
@@AqwAndRandomstuff thank you man im really torn between the 2
a c6 is a much better sports car but not a good daily. If you live in places that get snow don't even think about it
Is there a specific year model you would recommend owning? looking for a somewhat reliability fun car to purchase.
If you can afford 2017+ you’ll kinda get the best of everything! Apple car play and all the goodies
I had a older guy in a Kia Stinger stop and ask me about my acid green sti calipers 🤣
I used to work at a Kia dealer. Stinger customers always complained about the smallest stuff and half of it can never be duplicated.
Has the CEL come on yet?
Yo question. So I’ve been seeing a lot of ur stuff. Watching ur mods and everything. I’m getting a golf s. Can I do pretty much all these mods on that as well?
Also. With the unitronic stage 1 tuning that u did. There’s not one just for the golf s. But for the engine of the mk 7 which is the same for the s I guess
To your knowledge Cameron is there anything you can do to focus SE. It's treating me well so far I've had it for a year and a 1/2. I know your audiences more favourable to Turbo charge but what about naturally aspirated engines. And what I've seen on mountains website as they have stuff you could buy for a duratec HE but it's not much but I want to know from you what you think whether you do a comment or separate video. Thank you for your time buddy
stock is fun, but tuning mine changed the beast.
I think we need that 16/17 minute video upgrade on the gti
At the end :)
Is this a mk7 or mk7.5
Bro you drove right past my house in this vid
Would you say the gti or the 350z was faster stock?
a 350z would be faster stock
