2024 Volkswagen GTI review // We review our new car! Not all perfect...

- Опубліковано 9 чер 2024
- This is a Motormouth couple car review of our new 2024 VW GTI. So far we are really loving the 2024 VW GTI, it’s sporty and fun yet offers a sophisticated ride quality, it’s a great daily driver. It has a standard limited slip differential and models above the base get dynamic chassis control.
The 2024 VW GTI has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission or an available 6-speed manual, 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This is a FWD model and 2024 is the last year for the manual transmission, so get it while you can. In fact, the Golf R and Jetta will no longer be offered with a manual for 2025, only the GLI will have it.
The interior of the 2024 VW GTI is comfortable and actually feels quite spacious. We decided to delete the leather upholstery on the top trim and opted for the plaid seats. We don’t get the power driver’s seat because of it and we thought we would miss it because we share the car but we don’t because there is a power recline on the seats which is all we need.
Take a look at the pricing, it’s pretty close in both Canada and the US. In Canada, including freight, PDI and fees, the GTI DCT starts at $37,370 CAD, Autobahn Manual $39,470 CAD, Autobahn DCT $40,170 CAD, Performance Manual $43,570 CAD and Performance DCT $44,970 CAD.
In the US, S $31,965 USD, 380 S $32,685 USD, SE $36,915 USD, 380 SE $37,485 USD, Autobahn $40,505 USD and 380 Autobahn $40,825 USD.
We bought the top trim Performance 2024 VW GTI model with a manual transmission which is equivalent to the 380 Autobahn trim in the US.
Our 2024 VW GTI has the larger 10” touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, navigation, a 10.25” digital driver display, wireless charger, Harman Kardon sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, manual front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting with 30 colours, a panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats and power folding exterior mirrors.
The top trim does come with leather upholstery and a power driver’s seat but we deleted both features to get the plaid upholstery.

Those who get it, Get it. GenZ/Millennials, you don't need to drive boring and clunky compact SUV's. Test drive this and experience driving dynamics at a great price. You can drive boring cars when you get old.
Mazda is another option
Even their SUVs are fun to drive.
Great price? It’s $40K for a hatchback. 10 years ago that got you a Golf R.
@@jmarxful You're kidding right?
@@r3games1985CX-9
"great price" - WHAT ???
I had a 1985 VW GTI. When my father saw the car for the first time and read the name and asked me in his Filipino voice “What is this Geeh-tee my son? I smiled. From then on it was referred with that endearing name. I miss my father who baked bread every night to please us.
Nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread in the house!
This is so funny to see you two buying this car and releasing this video 9 days after my wife and I just bought a white 380 Performance with the manual. It's like you were listening to all our conversations. We also had a Cayenne, (manual) and we traded an Audi A4 Allroad on this... and we LOVE the FUN despite the two cars being siblings in the car world.
When you park it and as you are walking away and you look back at it .(yes) .you have a keeper❤🎉
I can't believe a German company (i'm half german) is getting rid of manual transmissions... I learned to drive manual on a Pinto station wagon when I was 13 years old! Then drove my dad's Rabbit when I was 17... always drove a manual!
Good for you to order a manual!😀
Love the plaid seats!
I believe the first (the only) Pinto I tried was a 4-speed coupé… I, too, was around that age (11-12). Great economy car (style-wise at least)… unless it blew up!
I had an ‘84 rabbit diesel in high school 😁
Can you believe a German company still makes cars with manual transmissions for markets other than North America?
@@OhNoMrBill-yg3dy For your information Golf R MKVIII for European market has never been available with manual transmission, yet it was for Canadian m,arket.I think it still is.
Probably because it’s not 1954 anymore.
I just a 2024 GTI SE with leather and DSG. So much more refined than my gti of the past. I love it, so much performance and still a great daily driver
When the reviewers respect that factory break-in period, gotta love it. Congratulations on the new GTI!
I have owned many VW's and the best advice, drive it hard from the start. NO engine issues
New cars don't need a break in. That's boomer thinking. Read your manual.
@@r3games1985 I'm a "boomer" and today's cars don't need no stinkin' break-in.
Lol you're all clowns. The cross hatching when they hone the cylinder makes a matched set when worn in with the piston ring. This has not gone away and never will. Break in is necessary.
And congrats on reaching 350,000 subscribers!
Thank you very much!
So awesome to see you review your own car that you purchased, so honestly and thoroughly! Props to you both for another extra special and phenomenal review!
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it!
The best anti car theft device is a manual transmission 🤷♂️🤷♂️ jeez I recall Andrea learning to drive a stick a few years ago 😊😊 now look at you shifting like a PRO 👍👍👍👍
Congratulations! I love the color...Good luck with your new car . Great review!.
Congratulations on the new car! Love the plaid interior 🎉
I had a MK7 GTI for five years and loved it. Great cars!
Love your reviews, Very down to earth, Thankyou! I've had a couple GTI's & one Golf Type R, Which I tuned & modified to a Stage
3 The only other thing that I could have done was to put a bigger turbo charger on it. Did not need it, already putting down massive
power, I could smoke the Mustang 5 litre! Just did it a couple of times.Keep the downloads coming, Love them!!
My first car was a 1978 VW Rabbit (which was a Golf everywhere else in the world). Always have a soft spot in my heart for these. Congrats on your GTI. You'll have many years of affordable fun with that car.
Same. Had a 78 Rabbit auto, then a 83 GTI for a couple years. Rabbit could go faster down the cut in North Van but the GTI was way more fun throwing around. Should have kept both.
Me too my first car was a gti
Love how you dress to match your GTI, Andrea! Well done!
Great review, as usual!
Congrats on the car guys. Love my 2023 40th Anniversary
Congratulations and great review! Huge fan of those seats, hoping to get one myself this year. 😎
Congratulations guys and a wonderful lemon and lime match! I just got a 2024 Golf R also in manual. Love it.
Great review, love your content!
Congrats on the new ride Zach & Andrea…..what an excellent choice!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Looking forward to more contents from this new toy!!! 😉
I love love the color. So happy for you both.
I had a 2007 GTI which I sold yo a friend a number of years ago/ When I sold it to him the car had 290,000 km on the dial. Currently to now has near 4000,000 km on it. Fantastic car. Keep up the great work Andes and Zack.
Finally, you’re doing it. I was waiting all the time just nonstop, waiting and waiting. I was just so nervous!😂
Finally !!!! Congrats 🎊🍾🎈🎉
Love the Green/Yellow.
Don’t you just love it ????? I still absolutely adore my 2023.
That is a very nice machine. I really like the fog lights and the way they are configured.
The review I've been waiting a long time for now! Great.
Super sweet hot hatch. Congrats on grabbing one. Thank you so much for not putting another white, black or silver car on the road. Great, fun color.
Your pomelo yellow GTI looks great. Hope I have a manual too. But the dual clutch is great too. Thanks! Great reviews on the GTI
Manual transmissions LAST! Naturally aspirated engines last! I still drive my 2003 GTI VR6, 6-speed manual after purchasing it October 2002 (price was 25K new)! I've had this car almost 22 years now, and it runs perfectly! It's been more reliable than a Toyota or Lexus! The 24v VR6 is one of VW's most reliable engines ever made!
I love how Andrea is such a badass when it comes to speed! Nice car!! Enjoy!
So happy for you guys
Searching through videos of this car for researching, THIS is THE video. Thanks!
Had a ‘22 GTi like it, didn’t love it. Swapped it for the “R” and I LOVE it. It is a true practical pocket rocket. Love your content guys and congrats on the GTi.
I had a 2016 GTI which I loved. The "hill hold" worked perfectly back then.
It has been over 30 yrs since I drove a manual transmition. The trick I used was using the hand brake. I would put the car in first and as I release the clutch and the engine engage I would release the hand brake. Cheers to you both.
I was a VW fan boy for 17 years. I’ve had an ‘02 1.8 ‘03 VR6 and ‘11 GTI, ‘06 and ‘15 GLI. The GLI’s were my favorites. You guys picked the choice year, color and trim. Although people complain about the haptic buttons, the ‘25 will have a giant infotainment screen which is going backwards in design from the smooth linear look of the ‘24 display. I currently drive a ‘24 BMW 230i xdrive.
We agree, this screen looks better but 2025 gets steering wheels buttons, might have to switch that wheel.
@@Motormouth...
I love the haptic buttons. Especially being able to change the adaptive cruise control by 5 mile an hour increments by swiping up or down. I mile per hour change by pushing.
Plus they look nice.
You finally got it! Congrats!
The color looks great! Nice car and excellent choice with 6MT.
Wonderful review, love you both!!! Having driven all the different GTIs, in your opinion, do the upgrades and improvements with the Mk8 make it worth upgrading from a Mk 7.5 GTI?
I picked up the 2024 GLI and been loving it. 6spd manual as well. I just am not ready to move on from a standard just yet. Your GTI looks fantastic. I'm glad you're enjoying it.
That neighborhood you're in...wow. Gorgeous. Looks like Gentrified Heaven.
Near university of BC. It’s a lovely area.
Thanks for another great review. It's nice to see a more personal review this time. I have a 2013 Golf R (APR tuned). I call it CHILL. I get the appeal of a manual transmission, but after a number of years driving my Golf R in stop-and-start traffic in Washington, DC ... and hitting my late 50s...I am ready for an automatic and something quieter. The exhaust note at 8:48 makes me wonder. Even with my concerns about interior noise, I am tempted by the MK8 GTI and R; particularly encouraged by your comments about refinement. Thanks again!
Loved watching this on a brilliant choice of a car! Cheers, Tom
Love your reviews, and good luck with the GTI. However, I just went out and jumped in my 2012 TSX Wagon, which includes physical buttons, paddle shifters, great suspension and the K24z3...one of the best 4 cylinder motors Honda ever built...and I realized again how much I don't miss touch screens, sliders, crummy stereos, etc.
Great review. Just got mine 2 weeks ago, 380 Autobahn manual trans. Love it so far. I can live with the buttonless info system. Bought the white one, no name yet. Any suggestions?
Sound like a great car and looks simple design in both exterior and interior. The gas mileage is awesome. Great show Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
Great review! Agree with all of your points. Is that a black forest shift knob that you guys got? How are you liking it? Also did experience that on cold start the car stays at elevated idle RPM for much longer compared to other cars? The idle engine rpm pulls extremely hard when my foot is completely off the gas going slowly.
Waking up early, grabbing a coffee going for a long drive to break in a new car. Pure Bliss.
I name all my cars too. Even my friends call my cars by their names.
I have gotten used to the hill assist. I just drive through it like normal, sometimes it doesn't release fast enough and gives me a little catch but I no longer get surprised by it.
Enjoy your eye-catching GTI. A side benefit of having a yellow car is that it is really easy to find in a parking lot. I rarely remember where I parked.
Best couple review on UA-cam! :)
Yeah those fog lights in the lower bumper looks great. Your gti looks great!
Good review. I have the Canadian version of the 40th Anniversary model (2023), also in Pomelo Yellow, but with the DSG. Love the car, the performance, and even the tech. The only real gripe I have about that is the lack of backlighting on the controls under the infotainment screen. Really thought they would have corrected that for the 2024 model year, so that’s disappointing. Enjoy your Mountain Dew! I live in St. John’s, NL and it sounds like you are coming my way next month. Really looking forward to that content. Keep up the good work!
As a 24 manual Golf R owner, I approve of this video 😁 Congrats on your purchase! I'm a bit jealous of your colour choice, since I only had 3 choices, I went with the classic Lapiz Blue. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the car so far. I'm slowly getting used to the buttonless interface too and, yes, the hill-hold assist shenanigan is a major mishap on VW's part. Not sure why they had to make it so difficult. Enjoy the car!!
I have a 2023 ID4 and the touch buttons 100% grow on you. Once you live with the car, it becomes second nature and you may find that you'll even prefer them. Swiping to raise and lower the volume works well and other tricks like 2 fingers to turn on the seat heaters is great. It's a VW, it's going to have quirks, but that's what makes them fun and interesting. Congrats on your GTI, looks beautiful!
Sick color, looks great with the black wheels!
I went with a civic ex turbo in pearl white. Thank you for your reviews. Great channel. ❤️ your GTI and the name 💚 I named mine white lightning 😂 ⚡️
Oh my Andrea! You look stunning in those colours!!
Congrats! Our 17 year old son loves his manual 2021 GTI Autobahn. Coming to end of lease period and will probably buy it out. We have had two white Volvo XC 60’s Candy girl 1 and Candy girl 2!
Wow, great review, and different perspective since it's your own car. Thank you for including my "hill start" question. For hill starts, I have found that the brakes give an audible noise upon release after the 3 second hold. I just wait for the sound, and then gas/clutch as normal. No hesitation, no stall. In addition, when on an incline, pump the brake a little. If there is no give, the hill assist is active. Living with it, but still wish I could disable it. Thanks again, informative and entertaining content.
Thanks for the tip on the sound, I will listen for it.
I love my GTI Autobahn. I had the same problem with the hill assist. I bought an OBDEleven and changed the setting to release earlier. Makes it so much better.
Congrats its a beauty...and being a manual definitely a keeper!
Congratulations both! Great choice - especially the color. Zach is a man of his word, he said time and again during the live streams that he thought the GTI would be his pick when asked by the audience. Good for Andrea to learn to drive manual and to be enjoying it now. The reason the manual is going is, I believe, the emissions penalty manufacturers are being hit with now. The DSG performs slightly better in the area.
Congratulations on your new purchase! Confirming a couple of things. The car takes regular gas. Is there an advantage to put in premium? Also, does the Autobahn model include the dynamic suspension in Canada? What else besides the Harman Kardon stereo is included in the performance model?
1936 Studebaker President was the first car to use a hill holder. Growing up in Seattle, it would have been great when stopping at the top of those hills going up from puget sound. In 1968, I had to learn fast in my 53 MGTD. A few backward slides taught me the precise rhythm of letting out the clutch and giving “Eliza Doolittle” the gas to get going up and over the hill. After test driving a 2015 GTI, I bought a 2016 molten orange Fiesta ST named “Chili” with a hill holder that works perfectly. I can turn it off if I wanted to. I enjoy your show. All the best!
Love the color 😲
It really is a beautiful car.
The plaid seats are awesome.
Love my 2023 GTI autobahn. Should have gone for performance to get HUD. My boys have 2024 Mazda 3 GT which has HUD. It really shines. Great review. You both amazing.
You bought the right motorcar… and most importantly, in the right colour. The only miss I see (opinions may vary)… I would prefer to have those tyres mounted on silver rims. Great purchase for automotive enthusiasts, like yourselves. Thanks for the video.
Yep. Black wheels are the dumbest of the dumb. Black absorbs light, it doesn't reflect, so it basically hides the wheels. Why do I want my expensive wheels hidden? I don't, I want to be able to see them and enjoy them. Silver all the way.
Fun driving car
Great job!
Smokin hot car! Congrats!
Congrats guys, beautiful car. I bought a 23 Anniversary edition, I also have a 15 Mazda Miata, I loved the GTI but after a while I couldn't get used to shifting, it just didn't work for me with the hill assist and all. The Miata on the other hand it just works, no effort shifting. Also had a lot of engine nocking sound using the dealer filled regular gas, it got better after I started to use premium.
Amazing review so far Andrea and Zack!
Thank you for feature on the coffee and question...woohoo!
Glad you enjoy your new car. It seems well spec’d. I would definitely go to the silver wheels now and use the black wheels in the winter if I had to. Like Zack, not a fan of the black wheels. Hope all the VW plastic engine parts last long enough not to disappoint. Good luck.
Since you got your GTI in Feb , my wife and I went and ordered a manual GTI performance in late Feb . We asked for the Yellow but VW didn't offer it anymore so it's Kings metallic red. It will be produced late May and should arrive in August some time. Yes Mountain Dew is what i also called the color. Great review and thanks for your insight into this car looking forward to it.
Been Waiting for this.!
We still have our 2015 GTI which we love. Of the 26 cars we've owned this ranks in the top 3 best driving cars and it has been very reliable so far. I also like the fact it has real buttons, the Fender stereo system, hood struts, rear HVAC, etc. We call him Mr G as our Mazda was Miss M.
GREAT REVIEW, GREAT CARS AND CONGRATS. WELL DONE, WATCH YOU ALL THE TIME.😂😂😂😂😂
As usual, a frank and honest review, congrats on the GTI w/manual. I have been driving VWs since 1978. Despite what CR has published, I have had great reliability with various Golfs and Jettas. My current VW is a 2018 Tiguan with 217k km. Had one major issue, there is no maintenance interval for the Crankcase Ventilation Valve in either the owners manual or dealers service program. To avoid overpressurizing the crankcase and unseating the timing chain gasket, check or replace the Crankcase ventilation valve at 80k km. intervals. Love the reviews.
I'm with you on disliking black wheels!!! Glad to hear you have a set(s) of "bright" wheels waiting in the garage. Why aren't they already on the car?
Nice review. Love the plaid seats. Auto trans for me however.
The one we've been waiting for!
I love those pretorias! They are nice and light too!
Omgosh you two are the best!! Love all ur video reviews and I’ve been following forever. I see we have the same taste in our “fun” car choices, my 380 was ordered in December and hopefully will be here for early summer. It replaces a Miata which was an absolute blast but not the favourite of my Border Collies who were right p’d off when I got it a couple years ago. Anyways, cheers you two and congrats! Your choice which I respect immensely has simply reinforced my choice of what to have fun with moving forward!! And nice shifter btw…BFI or Raceseng??? Beats the heck out of the plastic POS they thought would look good and perform well…until it started coming off in owners’ hands lol!!!
Great choice!!
It's a Sportshifter
Good honest review guys. The color, wow, not for me, but if you guys like it, that is all that matters.
Great car, great video!
I have an Audi a5 and his name is Viktor! Also, I love your guys' new purchase of the GTI!!
How important is the DCC for ride comfort on bad roads? Or is the standard suspension setup good enough? Also I think the DCC is only available on the manual autobahn and not the DSG autobahn, is that right?
Great video. I learned to drive standard in a right-had drive country in the Caribbean. When asked by my Manager (an American) why I only drove automatics? I replied, "you've never driven in Toronto have you? Particularly during rush hour (which is all day now)." Plus with some unforeseen injuries, there is no way I could've driven a standard but the automatics saved the day. :-)
Great choice, congrats! Please get yourself some Tuxmats for the car, you wont regret it. They're the best looking floor liners.
Betty Lou! Horrible Winter weather is when I talk to my truck.
Love the color of the car!! Black wheels no! Looking good you two :-)
Love your channel 💙 Any thoughts on the 2024 vs 2025 GTI? I’m in the USA, S model with automatic if helpful. Thank you!!
Congrats!
Hey guys!
Great review and such a beautiful car and colour.
So, I’m looking at picking up the same car and trim in a manual before it goes away.
Sadly, it looks like this colour is no longer available. 😢
I noticed in your video that the shot of the engine shows a cover. Other videos show that it does not come with an engine cover. Did yours?
And, your gear shift knob in the video looks to be different?
Was that an option you added? It looks cool!
Thanks and enjoy the car! 😊
The colour is no longer available and 2024 got the engine cover. The shifter is a Sportshifter
We live in Illinois "The Land of Lincoln". Our MKX Lincoln was named Abe. Get it, Abe Lincoln. Sold that and bought a smaller Lincoln, the Corsair GT. So it's been named Abe Jr.!
Awesome review, did you change the shift knob? Mine looks different.
Yes we did, we prefer this one from Sportshifters.
Beautiful car, and nice addition to the garage. Great colour and option choice for a very unique car in the market. It really continues to be one of the best overall cars on the market, ticking many boxes all in one package. As for naming, I called my 2015 mk7 6spd white GTI 'Minty' due to looking like a Tic Tac. Thoughts on making those Pretoria wheels your summer set (amazing wheel design)? Unfortunate on the sound system not performing on this mk8, as the Fender system on the MK7 was an absolute high point of the car.
Yes, they should have stuck with Fender, it is so much better.
My 1992 Nissan Sentra SER had a limited front slip differential and it was a blast to drive.
Wow!! Haha awesome guys! 😆👍🏼
I LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOUR HONESTY 🙏
MOUNTAIN DEW IS A GREAT NAME FOR THE CAR.. LOVE IT👍
Congrats, can't go wrong with a VW!!
