@@WizardingWorldshoppingchannel Yeah but you're leaving the part out where everything in that time frame happened so he could keep up his act. Voldemort can read into people's minds. If even one person would've known he was keeping up an act, he would be found out very soon after and his plan would fall into thousands of pieces. He did what he had to do while suffering the consequences all by himself. Jesus even typing this out makes me tear up again. Movie Snape was a man who deeply cared. Loyal and selfless as well.
If he were to be the headmaster in other circumstances, I bet he would allow people to see more of his true self. A man who cries like that in the end.. I don't even know many men who could/would cry with such emotion. Heavily misunderstood character.
@@Sjivje It sounds like you haven't read the books, which is what I generally base my videos on. The Snape portrayed there would have been a terrible headmaster whenever he did it. He was certainly a loyal and dedicated member of the Order, but he was also a petty, cruel and vindictive man.

Now I didn't know you base your videos on mostly the books. That's what you could've addressed instead of assuming I hadn't read the books.
I perfectly agree that Book Snape would be an entirely different Snape with entirely different choices. His core has been fully engulfed by bitterness. But both the writers of the films as well as J.K. Rowling went for another representation of Severus for the films. Hence the distinction I made. Movie Snape would've been a proper headmaster. Book Snape.. I don't even think I want to go there.

Interesting. I've always found Ralph a mostly ludicrous Voldemort, trying too hard to be menacing. For me, the book Voldemort was terrifying because he was cold, heartless and devoid of emotion: the non-human that his murderous career had created.

Watching this made me happy so thank you ! I dont think ill ever dare as snape for a refund. I honestly think Snape was constantly fighting the impulse to love and care for Harry, because he knew ultimately what would need to happen to the boy in the end for the plan to "protect the greater good" to actually work. Harry had to hate him to keep from getting so close that he saw through Snape's ruse, and I genuinely feel like Snape knew he wouldn't be able to go through with it if he actually allowed himself to be close with the boy. He knew his heart wouldn't survive that kind of break.
Why else would he show him the truth with his dying tears? Why would he grace the boy, with his literal last breath, with such a compliment as "...you have your mother's eyes..."? Lily was right, _Harry was loved._
Intriguing viewpoint, and one which seems in keeping with the story as told by JKR (unlike so many 'theories'). However, if Snape was having such an inner battle I don't think it was on a conscious level as it seems to me he lived in a habitual state of bitterness where no active restraint of loving feelings was required. My feeling is his imminent death broke down his resistance and bitterness long enough for him to reveal his inner self.
@@WizardingWorldshoppingchannel We are agreed, I didn't really have the patience to fully express the idea earlier, but you struck the core of it. I think Snape loved Harry dearly, on an unconscious level, and in a somewhat dysfunctional way. To be a bit more accurate with my meaning, I think Snape pushed everyone away to a degree, likely as a means of protecting himself and because of how ostracized he was as a child. In keeping with the psychology of an alienated child, it would make sense to me if Snape reasoned that it would be easier to simply respect positions of power rather than developing attachments to actual people (Lily obviously threw both the monkey and the wrench into that ideology). I think his initial desire to protect Harry was born purely out of his love for Lily, but I think the idea of Harry needing to now protect himself (Snape had been protecting him for the entirety of the series) forced Snape to see Harry, possibly for the first time, as a fully separate person that was both skilled and capable.
To me, the phrase "you have your mother's eyes" is like Snape recognizing that while Harry is a part of Lily (someone he loves), Harry is not Lily. Harry is his own person, and is worthy of the same love and respect Snape has for the one Harry reminds him of.
My feeling about Snape's final 'you have your mother's eye' is it's an indication he's allowed himself to recognise at the last moment that Harry doesn't just resemble the hated James but also the much loved Lily. All this time Snape has been protecting Harry out of his love for Lily when he could have been seeing the Lily inside Harry and loving him for that. Oh gosh, I'm making myself cry just writing about it!
