I'm an archaeologist on construction sites, what you saw were probably I beams being drilled and placed for shoring (if underground parking) and the footings that can sometimes sit on I beams. They're super common in larger buildings, especially on sandier/less stable soils. Sometimes they're pounded into the ground and it's definitely migraine inducing sometimes. I'm sorry you've been stuck with constant noise! Fingers crossed your house hunting turns something feasible up!

They built a central bus station right across from where I used to live. During the pandemic. During online university classes... Sometimes, the whole building started shaking for hours on end which in turn made my radiator rattle. They started at 7, they stopped at 5pm. This went on for months, more than a year in total.
Girl, I feel you. It becomes unbearable. Made me flee the apartment.

Dearest Lucy, I hope you have a wonderful vacation and your life regains some peace and balance very soon. I am a middle aged woman with short hair who doesn’t wear makeup or cute clothes but I absolutely adore you and your channel for your incredible wisdom and charm. Keep up the great work and know that your true fans will follow you through all of your valleys and back up to the peaks no matter what! ❤️

Go for rides in neighborhoods that you want to move to. Many times realtors put signs out the day/night before a property hits the Internet. That’s how I found my house. It’ll be nice and quiet, too!

Bless your heart! I am sending you a huge hug. I don't feel like I am over the shock I felt from the lockdown and now the invasion of Ukraine. It is so overwhelming; what do we do with the feelings of fear, a degree of depression? I do the best I can and say to myself this too shall pass. You are catching it from every angle! I am so glad you can go to your parent's house for some peace and quiet. Enjoy every second of your vacation, and time with your husband. Recharge!
    xoxo's Sandie

It might be worth buying a pair of noise cancelling headphones. They can be expensive for a good pair, but they are so worth it. Bose and Sony do good sets. Even if they don't completely block out the noise, they will dampen it considerably. I have misophonia, was diagnosed as hyperacusis, but it's misophononia. I've suffered from severe sensitivity to sounds for 21 years. Bought the Sony N/C headphones a few months ago and blessed peace finally

I totally understand your need for a new home, when I lived in an apartment and my neighbors were drilling all day for about a month it was devastating for my mental health, partially because I have quite unusual sleep pattern so I couldn't have a good sleep through that time. And now, when I live in a house it was also hard through last summer when two of our closest neighbors were building new houses and at the same time social services were doing some renovation work on our street just in front of our house.

The type of dwelling you described is called a duplex here in Ireland. I had an idea for a mini series of videos that I thought you might be interested to hear. Basically I was thinking the overarching theme is Celtic mythology and you would do different videos in some of the styles that we see on your channel - a sewing video, hair and makeup - beauty beacons style, a story time about your university days, and an image recreation.

We have "Doppelhaushälften" in Germany, where one house is split into two the other way round. So, two front doors, one to the right side, one to the left side.

As another person with sensory issues who lived in a very small space throughout the pandemic with construction happening in their entire building for many many months, I fully emphatise with what you're going through. I hope you're having lots of fun on your holiday, and best of luck with your housing hunt! I'll be looking for a new place to live as well in a couple of months. ps: I quite like the occasional rambling video that goes on about random topics, it feels like I'm chatting to a friend.

I hear you Loepsie!! Incessant noise is real problem and in my opinion is like a form of slow torture. It builds inside you over time until it literally becomes unbearable. I lived in an apartment for a year that was situated maybe 300 meters away from the exit to a highway where there was a traffic light. 18-wheeler trucks constantly using their air brakes to come to a stop which is deafening. Also here in New England it’s common to have impatient drivers who are always using their horns. I could never tune it out. Just like you, I also was dealing with quite a few things at the same time. It had a terrible effect on my mental health and I started having frequent panic attacks. Let me tell you, when I finally moved out of there to my next apartment it was so serene I cried. The house was spacious, filled with warm sunlight, clean, and on a very quiet road in a rural town. To top it off it was across the street from my parents home. That was the best place I’ve ever lived since leaving my parents house.
The apartment was one side of what’s called a duplex here. It’s similar to the type of house you described. 2 front doors but the house is split vertically down the middle. Each side has 2 levels and they are mirror image usually.

The way you've described how noise effects you is exactly how I feel about noise and I've never been able to really explain it/put it into words and it's really kinda comforting to know at least one other person experiences it in a similar way. I know this is an old video and I'm glad you were able to get your house with your peace and quiet 💜

I understand the burnout. I’m coming out of a three-month burnout, and the best advice I can give is to pace yourself. Set yourself a task each day and increase that amount when you feel like it.
Noise is also a trouble for me. Too much noise is distracting and I can’t concentrate, so usually I’m doing something accompanied by some music in the background to aid my focus.
My dad loves the Dune books! I think you’ll enjoy them.

I've been a fan of yours since back in the hair sock and renaissance fair days and I've always enjoyed any kind of content you've created and will continue to watch anything new you may try, so don't be afraid to branch out. Also I'd totally watch a series about what you're reading or what books you love and recommend or hated and couldn't finish. As my therapist says, it's ok to not be ok. I don't know anything about health care where you are, but seeing a therapist has helped me through the pandemic. I thought it would be awkward (I'm a pretty shy and personal person) but after the initial few sessions it was actually so good to have a neutral person to talk to.

The poles... THE POLES!!! This was being done to a building close to where I live last year, and the sound carried to my apartment very clearly. I was actually happy to go to work at the office every day even though the pandemic was starting to get worse again at the time, just so i could get away from the noise for the day.

You are so hard on yourself. When we are struggling with mental health issues, just getting through the day is actually something to be proud of. You've made me realise how priviledged we are in South Africa with our good weather (sunshine for about 90% of the time) and space (not necessarily houses but outside). If you have the money in the future, come visit and go to the Northern Cape and the Kalahari - sunshine, space and quiet. Food for the soul. And exceptionally beautiful landscapes. Wishing you the best with the house buying process.

I have been following you since your original fringe cutting video that you filmed in this room and it was very nostalgic to see you here! At the time I was living in the city with my boyfriend who became my husband and now we live in the suburbs with two kids and a garden, a few sheep and a little flock of chickens. Life is such a wild ride and I have loved to silently share it with you, even though you don't know me! :) I have seen many of your self proclaimed ups and downs and have loved witnessing you through them all, so offering my love and support as you navigate this one. I look forward to your house buying/moving and I think you'll find lots of interest in that from your viewers! I know I love to watch that stuff myself and just getting to keep following along on your experience is a little gift I treasure. Thank you for being you!! Keep it up, because us long time followers have loved watching you grow!!

Dear Loepsie! I really feel for you. A few years back, I was in the same situation as you. The buildings just across my apartment and then the apartment right next to mine were completely put down and renovated one after the other. It lasted for two years. I worked part time from home, and even when I went to the office, there also was construction there. At one point, it was so difficult for me to bare the noise that I started having some kind of night terrors : I awoke suddenly in the middle of the night, thinking I heard drills in the walls or things like that 😅 of course, nobody was using a drill at 3 AM. But I think my mind was so traumatized that it made me believe funny things.
Besides, I now play harp therapeutic music for the elderly in a lot of different settings where there is a lot of noise, and I see everyday the perver effects it has on people. Noise is a nuisance. Its bad effects on health are often underestimated.
So be compassionate to yourself. You may not have "big terrible things" going on into your life right now, but you have every reason to feel overwhelmed and to struggle breathing and keeping balance. I hope your situation soon gets better. Sending you lots of love.

I feel you. I’m so, so sensitive to noise. I get so anxious with really loud noise. Even though my neighbours are not super noisy, I can still hear them and it’s so hard to tune them out sometimes. Thank goodness for noise-cancelling headphones.
Do they renovate all day? Or is it from 9-5? If they’re doing it at random hours maybe talk to your building supervisor about it?
And we have those split houses here in Toronto to help with space. Our housing market is crazy.
Here’s some video ideas to help you out:

We have a lot of those split level apartment/duplexes in my home town. They used to be single family homes but were too big to rent in the modern housing market and were split into 2 or maybe 4 units. Some of the buildings are over 100 years old and occasionally are bought and returned to their original layouts.
We moved a year ago from a neighborhood with a cursed rooster that crowed literally all night long, and neighbors that fought all the time. It's so peaceful now...bird sounds and no noisy neighbors and very little traffic!

The poles are the ABSOLUTE worst. The city I live in is redoing a section of interstate/freeway right by my house, and they have been drilling down to pour support poles for it. It. Is. So. Loud. And you can feel it too. Ugh. Also, the house type you're talking about is called a duplex in the US! We have the two/three-floor type, as well as houses that are one floor that is split down the middle, with different entrances and addresses. So much nicer than an apartment! It was quite a shock to the system being surrounded by people and then lockdown happened and all our neighbours decided to do renovations and I mean big ones. Massive extensions and loft conversions so both sides had scaffolding, drilling. Skips and lorries everywhere. We went from living in nature to not even being able to use our garden because of all the noise, dust and peering builders. We are hopeful this summer they will all be going on holidays in the summer. I’ll have my fingers crossed your neighbours do the same.

You mentioned Dune and I got a HBO ad with Dune after your video 😅
I agree with you that there's something intriguing about Batman. He's so different from all the other heroes - a very sad, lonely one... I'm not a big Batman fan (or superheroes in general, or action movies to be honest), but my husband has been since childhood, like you, so he's shown me all the movies and of course we went to see the new one. I couldn't really get into it for the first hour, but then I got hooked and had so many feels at the end. Hubs said it may be the best Batman movie so far when it comes to "batmanness", that is the focus on the character. Enough about Batman - I'm cheering on your efforts of finding a house, we are in a similar position and omg it's so hard here in Hungary too! And it's only going to get worse with the forint's behavior due to the war. Eh, we have to stay strong... and lower our expectations 😅

Hope you have a wonderful holiday! The mental health struggle is something I can relate too, I do find sewing a great escape. Love your vids and I wanted to say thank you for inspiring me. I made a dress from simplicity pattern 1459k5. It's come out so great and I love it!

Don't ever worry about rambling too much, it's not too much 😀 Personally, for me it's never enough, I love these kind of just talking videos for when I'm handsewing or ironing, or crafting. 😁

My husband and I are in a similar situation. We live in an apartment and some of the public areas and doors are right under our unit. We've recently realized all the noise is affecting our sleep and causing regular headaches. White noise and fans are on all the time! I'm hoping we can buy a house soon, but fear it will still not be quiet enough unless we move so far away, which makes work difficult.

So many of us are struggling to process all of the world events right now. This video feels right for the time. I too am highly sensitive to noise and can relate that a quiet, peaceful home is an essential part of my well being. So glad you're able to get away for a holiday. Take care, I always look forward to your videos no matter the content.

Oh damn. I watch most of your videos and was vaguely aware of some noise issues...but I had no idea, it was that bad!
My current appartement building has lots of greenery surrounding it and every Saturday from early spring till late autumn...there were inevitably loud noises outside for half the day. They were either moving lawns or cutting hedges or trimming trees or repairing.... something...lol. It was driving me crazy and it was just one day of the week.
Your situation sounds like a total nightmare! I do so hope, your house hunting is successful, soon!
Greetings from a fellow tiny appartement dweller (without any hopes, of ever moving out).

I'm the exact same way with sound Lucy,, I've been able able tell it was wearing on you in recent videos, and I can't wait to see you heal as you get a new place ❤ Don't worry about the creative burnout, myself and I assume, the majority of your followers, have been here since the beginning, so we're not going anywhere ❤ take a month off of working if you want even?? Do something for your mental health, you work soo hard, everyone will understand if you need a break ❤❤

The house you are describing with two doors sounds a lot like what we call duplexes in the US. Usually they are divided in half side to side though here rather than by floors. My family also wants to buy a house, but where I live (Visalia, CA) houses have basically doubled in price the past five years and it’s so competitive it feels impossible.
The demolition work you are describing sounds unbearable, especially in a small home! I’m sensitive too so I feel for you. I will be praying that you find a home in your home town and that you are given some peace and quiet on your vacation! ❤️
I love your channel and have been learning to sew with you!

Awww it’s so sweet that you have the opportunity to revisit your childhood room! My parents sold their house so I won’t be able to go in mine again. It’s so nice to “catch up” with how you are. I’ve been watching your videos on and off since your original sock bun when viral. 😂 Looking forward to your house hunting updates! My husband and I are trying to buy too, and it sounds like our housing market in the states is very similar to yours. Wishing best of luck! Our futures homes are out there, they just might not be ready for us yet. :)

Can I ask what region of the Netherlands you want to go to?
I wish you the best of luck with house-hunting. Me and my husband bought a house in november and we got the key on the first of march, en the region of Gouda. We are so happy and lucky to have been able to buy it.
We bought a 'rijtjeshuis' with a full on garage (park a car and place bicycles-size) We have a small back-garden left due to that, but it would be an ideal place to make a studio. Just an idea ;-).

I agree, incessant noise is very grating on one's mental health. I live next to a main road, and I get to hear sirens, motorcycles, and people drag racing with malfunctioning mufflers at all hours, day and night. There is also a parking lot for some restaurants next to my apartment building, so I regularly get to hear car alarms going off and other people's music. I can sometimes even feel the base of people's music in my fourth floor apartment with the windows closed. It is unpleasant, and I can't figure out how the people playing the music in their cars are not deaf and in serious pain.

Oh my heart goes out to you, to live through all that noise for several years! I'm highly sensitive too, and autistic, and can't even begin to imagine the stress of all that noise. I really really hope you find a great place to live very soon. As for books I feel the same about Red Rising, I started it and dnf it because of the dark mood really. I wanted to recommend you a fantasy book series by Kate Forsythe - The Witches of Eileannan. I listened to it on Audible, the narrator was very good too and I loved listening to her Scottish accent. I'm currently relistening, and that is a rare thing for me. And an audiobook would be really great now too because of the noise you must live in.
I'm sure your channel will survive this valley, you have so many great themes and I think I have watched almost all them by now😅 I especially love the sewing videos, and have barely started to sew myself ❤️

It's so funny because I don't watch other youtubers regularly, but I *always* check back to your channel because it just seems I can relate to you the most! TIL that Loepsie also enjoys Batman and no other superheroes. BIG SAME! My ex was so into Superhero comics that he had 22 long boxes filled with comic book and if you were to have a superhero trivia night, he would blow everyone out of the park. But for me, Batman has always been my one and only. Ever since I was little. I think it was maybe because my Dad was the same way.
Anyways, I hope things get better for you! I know the housing market is crap over there right now. Over here in the US I'm going through a similar type of anxiety with my car. It is literally on it's last legs. (The muffler fell off yesterday while I was driving. For the second time in a year and a half.) And over here, cars are like bikes for you guys. But almost even more of a necessity because our public transportation system is NOT nearly as accessible as it is for you guys. At least here in the midwest. And both the new and used car market is bad. Especially with new cars since there is a shortage of CPU chips.
    Just gotta hang in there!
