I love that you mentioned going to a doctor or therapist when nothing works. Everyone may feel a little worse during winter but sometimes it is not just a bad mood, if you struggle to live for about two weeks in a row it may be sign that you really need professional help. Don't trust people who tell you they deal with depression on their own, seek help. I am on medication for five years now, it's still not ideal but I am better than I was without it.
I love your cozy chat videos! I find them the most appealing to watch sometimes! 😊 These were some wonderful ideas for beating the winter dark blues! ❤
Thank you so much for the tips and for reminding me I'm not the only one battling the winter blues. My tips are a daylight lamp (you can use it during breakfast and it really helps on the darker days) and the video game Stardew Valley (also a low-stress video game, a bit like Animal Crossing). Also: reduce screen time and try not to check the news too often, it's never positive anyway. Good luck everyone!
@Lydia Pueschel, I have a small simple one that you can only switch on and off and that does the trick for me. There are different ones with adjustable light intensity and/or different sizes. It really depends on your budget, your wishes and the amount of available space in your home
In addition to going outside, finding a friend who has a dog you can hang out with is a must for me. Most dogs are happy, energetic, and loving (all things you need to beat winter blues).
Great point! I love that you pointed out finding a friend who has a dog ❤️ As a side note, many people think “getting a dog” will cure loneliness or depression-but dogs are a huge commitment, a lot of work, and deserve to have their own needs met first! So I loved your point. Anyway, shelters and rescues always need more people to help walk and spend time with dogs, so that’s another (very fulfilling!) way to go.
@@shalmamova That's true, also if you like cats, most shelters have cat play rooms where volunteers can socialize shelter cats (and kittens). They need love too (I'm just allergic, so that's a problem for me).
Gloomy rainy days are so common here in Germany, too, so I love your tips! I would love to see a vintage-inspired dancer/ballerina hairstyles video, if you haven’t done anything like that.
This is fascinating to me. I live in one of the hottest, brightest, sunniest places on earth (Phoenix, Arizona). I find myself quite depressed in the summertimes, where daytime temps often soar above 115 and can peak at 120 or higher. In those conditions, even walking down the street can be deadly if you’re not accustomed to the heat. Because many people stay indoors during the day in summer, many lack vitamin D here as well 🥲 so go figure. However, fall, winter, and spring time temps hang out around the mid sixties and seventies Fahrenheit, so this time of year is amazing 🤩
I totally get it! I'm from a country that experiences both winters and summers at their extremes and I still find summer to be more depressing than winter 😂 you can always layer up in the winter and get comfy while summer feels gross and exhausting 24/7
Me too! I was just having a discussion like this earlier about seasonal depression in the summertime. I’m sorry that you also experience this I find that it gets really lonely sometimes.
We're living in Lockdown here in Austria at the moment, so most of my anti-blues-recipes don't work... It's so hard to find motivation for anything when cafés, museums and even normal shops are closed and I can't even get christmas gifts for my family... But I don't want to ruin the cozy mood here, I wish all of you the strength to get through this time! Enjoy your tea!
I find the after Christmas bit the worst too! Will try leaving up some lights after the main decorations come down ☺️ I love your tea time videos, they're cosy and it's like hearing from a friend
Thanks for the tips! In line with leaning into cozyness I think it is also about accepting a slower pace of life in winter. Our body’s Just have Less energy in the darker/colder months. I hope society (both work/social) will accept that and that everybody can embrace their cozy winter days! ✨
I love to read or crochet during winter months. Snuggled up in a blanket on the couch. I don't have a TV and don't watch movies or like to spend too much time on electronics. Candles and hurricane lamps bring a lot of relaxation for me.
To me, the darker days, when you have to keep the lamps on and even when it rains or snows and I am inside cooking or sewing something are absolutely magical! I don’t know why I love them so much while everybody else hates them :)) I moved now but where I used to live I could see the forest and I had a window wall and I just loved seeing all the seasons from there, especially spring, autumn and winter becouse in summer I wanted to be out more.
Ah yes, you're in the land of sideways rain! I'm in Oregon, which has weather like Brittany, a bit warmer, but very dark in winter with all the rain. Vitamin D!!!! Since I'm an accountant, I'm slammed from Dec to Feb, so by the time I come out of tax coma, it's spring! But yes, the lights, I start lights on my seedlings in January, and that's a big help. But I get holiday blues, both my parents died and it's hard to get through the holidays when they loved them so much. Focus on the young. I find that you, Rachel Maksey, and Morgan Donner all help me with depression. Monday morning with the girls is a great way to face the week.
I usually take fun classes in the Christmas to Spring time span. I’ve taken flower arranging classes, card making classes, and water color classes to name a few. I need these outings to keep myself going.
Hello Loepsie... Always love a good sit down with tea. Loved the space you created to film this one, pretty colors and cozy vibes. Happy Winter, it's my favorite bc I hate the heat but I didn't realize my change, great idea to just Go Outside. One 15 min walk is the Best. I will be doing allot of baking hopefully. 💚👍
Hi, keeping busy and having projects help me, my focus switches twice a year, bst it's all outside stuff garden and maintains but when we change to gmt it's sewing, knitting and crafting and stuff like decorating, my daughter uses a sad lamp I don't as they can trigger migraines and in sensitive people even fits.💖
In winter I keep all the lights on inside. Also my city has lots of concerts and plays and things during the winter so there's usually some kind of fun indoor thing to look forward to where you see a lot of people.
I'm having orange juice, but I am particularly thirsty, so I'll be making some herbal tea with apple, pear, mint and nettle flavours in it. It's a Twinings one.
This was so charming, thank you! Your talking about Lego versions of things made me think of Sofa Shakespeare from 2020. A woman in Los Angeles divided Shakespeare plays into one-minute increments and sent them to people all over the world. Most of the segments are live-action, but there are plenty of Legos, pets, animations, and stuffed animals to go around.
Good morning Love all the tips💕 I do most of them. I've found you and a couple others who got me into drinking tea on a regular basis. 😊 I've found sitting near a window when the sun is shining in can be helpful too....and turning off the electronics...look out at the sky and the beautiful day. I hope you have a good week
Thank you! I do feel it when I wake up at sunrise at best, sometimes when it's still dark outside (around 6:00am, sometimes 5:30am) and coming back home from work at sunset and even, again, when it's dark outside (16:00-17:00, sometimes later). I am looking for little things to make me happy, it feels tough some days... Oh and I didn't drink tea (which I do like) but I enjoyed tasty lasagna my mom made and a bowl of sweet potato and other orange vegtables soup I made! Soups are one of the best things in winter for me!
Lit a candle after this video. I also have a few grow lights that I use to grow some basic herbs like parsley and cilantro. Just to see the green is nice!
Ruth Crilly did a smart video last year about the best gifts- books and chocolate! Find a good book with a pretty cover and wrap in a ribbon with a matching chocolate bar. Choc and lovely!
Really nice video, I am drinking a pumking spice latte to help my winter cold 🤒 Thank you so much for those tips, it's nice to know other people suffer from it too!
I'm so grateful for your videos. They are always interesting and relax well. I am from the Czech Republic and thanks to your videos I am learning more English. 😅❤️
I'm lucky enough (a matter of perspective?) to work seasonal jobs, so I migrate with the seasons! It's getting chilly and dark here in the Northern California mountains, but I'll be moving to Arizona soon 😅 I never appreciated summers until I lived somewhere with actual winters. Especially when my favorite thing is being outside, being cooped up is hard. Thanks for the tips, I think I'm going to do some buddy-reading with my friend :)
one of my favorite things to sew is winter stuff, capes, long skirts, etc. and i like stepping outside in them to get some fresh air and keep warm and also actually wear my historybounding looks, even if its just on the porch
We have been using a full spectrum Ott light in the mornings for a couple of hours before full light. B vitamins help as well as D. You're right, getting outside, even if it feels like the last thing you want to do really helps.
I also get seasonal depression every. Single. Winter. Like you, it gets a lot worse after the holidays. As for cozy activities, i’ve been enjoying doing “adult coloring” at night before I go to bed while watching youtube videos or listening to a podcast, it’s comforting for some reason.
I really, really like this kind of video, so I'm glad you're still doing themn, even though they don't get many views. I am also shocked to see that this was only recommended to me today, 7 days after you uploaded it, and to see the low view number! Maybe the weird algorithm is part of the problem? Anyways, I really enjoyed this one as I always do with your tea times. Keep going strong!
I’ve been drinking Yorkshire biscuit brew tea nearly everyday for the past several months. Sooooo good. Very string and robust. I’m pretty sure it is an Irish breakfast tea.
I love your tea time videos! After learning about the link between the microbiome in the gut and mental well-being I’ve added prebiotic foods and probiotics to my diet. 🥗 turns out I like sauerkraut 🤗 I’m so glad you mentioned vitamin D! Something our health officials have failed to do repeatedly in these times of plague 😒
as a kid i also loved winter. ive always preferred being a little cold to being too warm, so already i was more fond of the colder months. also i grew up in a house with a nice yard and a little hill perfect for sledding, and my brother loves skiing and all things in the snow, so we had so much fun. but yknow, growing up, trauma happens, u get more mental illnesses, stuff happens, and winter sucks :/. pro tip: have a cat
These are a few of my favorite things. Love tea time video chats with Lucy. ( Winter Tips: Listen to peaceful sounds music is therapy, keep moving, stretch or do yoga, walk, knit, sew, paint, find a pen pal or write, organize, take warm baths with Epsom salts and flower petals, bake...and take Vitamin C and Elderberry supplement.) Most importantly stay mentally active with games or challenges around the house to help dissipate the blues. Surround yourself with positive people, if you can't or are alone surround yourself with beauty cleanliness and positive energy that you create. You are your best friend after all during the dark cold winter months you have to stay creative and healthy.
Sounds like you're a cozy gamer! Have you tried Spirit Farer on the switch? I highly recommend! Also, I have a daylight lamp I put next to me every morning. It helps me to wake up and gives me more energy throughout the rest of the day. I also use a wake up light as alarm clock :)
Where I live the sunrise for today is 6:44 AM and sunset is at 4:17 PM I work overnight, so I don't feel like the less sunlight hours affects me as much scine I'm normally asleep during the day anyways.
Wonderful. I’m having mint from my own garden. Coincidentally, it’s the only herb I seem to be able to grow (next to thyme) but that’s ok. I don’t need anything else
green tea with mint and matcha. no black tea today no more because of my stomach. i used to love winter until a couple of year ago. but now darkness and cold gives me anxiety as i get older AND due to covid restrictions this time is even more unconfortable for me.
A solar powerbank Ive been waiting for weeks to arrive finally arrived yesterday. I set it up,and hung the panel outside. The sun hasnt come out since!
I'm just now catching up on some of your videos because this is my busy season. (Retail) And it's funny that I watched this one today because I literally struggled to get out of bed this morning for therapy at 9:30am. She even mentioned straight away how tired I looked. *cringe*
Ooh for anybody considering video games, I recently (yes only recently, sorry, I know it’s a disgrace) discovered Zelda Breath of the Wild is actually wonderful as long as you can withstand a little bit of pressure here and there. Really good vibes and pretty colours everywhere
While I feel sorry for people who have trouble with this, I don't relate to it at all. I love dark, overcast days. Rain, storms, snow, a nice blizzard. I love the feel of impending doom, as long as it doesn't actually come to pass. I'm not a fan of summer in the least. I can breathe in winter. The only two things I like about summer are sandals and yard sales. Give me dark and windswept.
As someone who also only likes wholesome games, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Stardew Valley!!! I promise you, you're in for a treat. It's basically cottagecore in a game. You inherit a farm in a cute village from your grandpa and it's your job to bring it back to life. Trust me, it's so much more than just a farming game, it's such a big world to explore! I cannot recommend this enough. It's the best game ever! And the best thing: you can play alone or in multiplayer, so you can start a farm with your husband! I have a farm with my boyfriend and it's such a great way to spend time together, we've played well over 70 hours already haha! And we still haven't explored everything. It's amazing!
If you’re one of those who gets depression every winter, like myself, you can get light therapy. Look it up. I’ve haven’t had a winter depression in years after I started doing the therapy until last year when I was so busy I forgot and got a winter depression. 😊
i was wondering, have you been dancing for a long time? if not, is it scary to sign up for dance classes, specifically ballet, as a young adult? i love dancing but ive had weird experiences with ballet classes in the past because i didn't do it as a kid and im still a beginner.
I started taking ballet in 2019. I took it from ages 4-9, then switched to jazz dance, and now back to ballet. I've been dancing with the same teacher all my life though, which definitely made the transition much easier 😜 She put me straight in the adult intermediate class, but we do also have an adult beginners class where people sign up all the time who have little to no prior experience. I'd say give it a shot at a different studio!
i love the book swap idea!!! also im gonna say this just because its happened to me, im not trying to be a downer, but make sure your friends are trustworthy, or you're not getting those books back. again, sorry, im not trying to be pessimistic, just something to think about. i lost a Caitlin Doughty book that way :(
I love autumn, winter, and spring aka Prima Vera. And I DESPISE summer aka Hell. Here in Florida, we don’t have many days when temperatures are lower than mid-80°F and even fewer days with beautiful rainy weather (only hurricanes, no fun at all). The air never has the crispness of autumn, with the beauty of leaves turning color and the heady fragrance of burning leaves. There is about a week or two’s worth of cold weather, never REALLY cold weather, never snow, and other than that brief 1-2 weeks, if I want to snuggle under a blanket I have to turn my window A/C unit on. I love that darkness falls early - I’ve never had SAD, and I’m a dedicated homebody with no desire or need to go outside for my vitamin D. I just take a daily supplement. Y’all may see pandemic precautions as an imposition under which you chafe, but to me it’s been life as usual. And la vita èst bella!
If Cleopatra gained queen status, I too carry similar title by commom name Madonna. And I need votes of confidence to gain such status. I am also lobbying technically to gain votes for Crown in ice skating, a basic instinct movie ice questionnaires for eligibility as was practised practically. But I feel injured in heart while practicing such job.
I know you said you don't enjoy gaming much but if you ever want to try a new game, Id recommend Breath of the Wild. While it can be more challenging than previous Legend of Zelda games, I'd still recommend it for it's beautiful open world and serene music. Its very nice just doing the very chill side quests and taking pictures of all the pretty scenery
The more stuff that you make because you like it the longer that your youtube career will last. Also if you don't make any videos for you on a regular basis you're audience will not be as accepting or understanding of you as would be healthy.
I love that you mentioned going to a doctor or therapist when nothing works. Everyone may feel a little worse during winter but sometimes it is not just a bad mood, if you struggle to live for about two weeks in a row it may be sign that you really need professional help. These were some wonderful ideas for beating the winter dark blues!
“ nothing positive “ it should be tag line for all newspapers.
Any recommendations when it comes to daylight lamps?
@Lydia Pueschel, I have a small simple one that you can only switch on and off and that does the trick for me. There are different ones with adjustable light intensity and/or different sizes. It really depends on your budget, your wishes and the amount of available space in your home
Good luck with reducing screen time while discovering stardew valley ^^ it is addictive but makes you feel really happy and wholesome :D
Thank you for this I struggle during this time of year

Thanks for this video, Lucy. Light therapy can be helpful for some people as well. ☺️
I also take ballet classes 🩰 Your video is calming, great to know that I’m not the only ‘old’ lady doing ballet😂
I've just moved someplace where it rains 10 months out of the year. I just got a plant light and it's been good for me and my leafy greens
What helps me very well against the winterdepression is 5-htp suplements. They really do wonders for me!
Hi Lucy, I highly recommend Minecraft on peaceful mode. Individual or multiplayer are both lots of fun!
Omg yes! I too am very selective with my video game preferences and I play the Lego hp with my son!
cozy video
That kettle is gorgeous! Does anyone know where it’s from?

Oolong tea is my favorite tea. Tie guan yin to be exact.
WE CAN LEAVE THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS UP TIIIILLLLL JANUARRRYYYYYYY
Just sat down with a cup of Folgers with heavy cream.
I am technically, scientifically, hierarchically qualified for such titles. So I will function to carry over queen of hearts melodies.
Where did you get that lovely ceramic teapot warmer? I know someone who would love that and their birthday is coming up very soon!
Ah I'm afraid I don't know where it's from, I got it as a gift myself 😅
I've been dancing with the same teacher all my life though, which definitely made the transition much easier 😜
She put me straight in the adult intermediate class, but we do also have an adult beginners class where people sign up all the time who have little to no prior experience. I'd say give it a shot at a different studio!
i love the book swap idea!!! also im gonna say this just because its happened to me, im not trying to be a downer, but make sure your friends are trustworthy, or you're not getting those books back. again, sorry, im not trying to be pessimistic, just something to think about. i lost a Caitlin Doughty book that way :(
List: take vitamin D supplements
Go outside, exercise
Get cozy (candles, hot beverages, keep christmas lights up)
I love autumn, winter, and spring aka Prima Vera.
I get seasson affective disorder every year. :(
Seasonal depression is so so bad rn.....and having yo study at the same time is the THE worst :(
If Cleopatra gained queen status, I too carry similar title by commom name Madonna.
Remember to take vitamin D. During winter months you don't get as much sun exposure so your energy levels are affected by low vitamin D.
I take vit d every other day 3000iu after tea I go to bed early read watch tv , lots of lavender butter on my body and face before sleep
Hyyy 🥰🥰
*buys lego Harry potter*
Jammer dat je zo ver weg woont anders konden we samen wandelen, naaien en bakken :-)
The more stuff that you make because you like it the longer that your youtube career will last. Also if you don't make any videos for you on a regular basis you're audience will not be as accepting or understanding of you as would be healthy.
Why are you so beautiful ?😂
