- Were we naive in thinking it would be summer here!? We've driven all the way from Cornwall in the UK to NORWAY in our trusty old transit van! We wake at the side of the road next to a beautiful river and we head into the mountains to find a swim spot only to find that’s not possible…

Who are we? 💁🏼♀️
We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. We love nature and are currently traveling in Norway!!
You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! 😁 ⏮
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden jobs, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a UA-cam channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do UA-cam full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!

Some hiking gear may be higher than you'd expect, but usually it's because of high quality.
We Norwegians are 'outdoorsy' and above average hung up in having the right gear for the occasion. And 'everyone' hikes in the mountains.
That parking space is made for hikers, so it's probably mostly in use in the daytime on fair weather days.
You have been a bit unlucky with where you are in Norway regarding the weather. But the coastline/fjords/west in Norway is always more prone to wet weather coming in from the ocean. But if you want the scenic route, that is the road to take. Hope you get more lucky with the weather as you go north! July is the best month for summer temps.. ;)
As a norwegian that have travelled all over the country I can assure you all that Norway is pretty great. If you like city life you need to visit Trondheim, Bergen, Tromsø and Oslo. In that order of priority. Nature? Does not matter where you go, we got it everywhere... You are welcome.

Olden is my hometown! Shame you met with rain that day. The Sunde Family used to be one of the larger families there, so there's a lot of that name there. The Skogstad clothing shop you were in used to be the old convenience and general store up untill a couple of years ago.

I assume you already know this, but the brands you where looking at are like whats considered very good. So there is that ^^ you can get like a cheaper brand that might not last that long for 20 pounds on shops like XXL but yhe. If you want something decent then 50 pounds is tbh..still considered cheap in norway. 100 is more or less normal for hiking gear that is durable

The valley where you parked by the main road at the start of the video where you commented on how wet it was there, is aptly named "Våtedalen" - which means - ta-da! - "Wet valley" ! See you also vent to Olden, Strynsvatnet, Videsæter-svingane. You turned around at Djupvatnet (missing Geiranger!) which was frozen over, then vent down to Strynsvatnet again, about 1000 m lower. Be aware that Norway have around 3x as much snow as normal this time of the year this spring/summer.

You guys really picked my favoritt routes 👌 Some of these places are really mind blowing.
Shopping at REMA 1000 is smart. They are the cheapest. Spar and Menu are the most expensive.
Don't be afraid to pick the cheaper brands. You won't find really bad quality in a Norwegian supermarket. Have an EPIC trip !!
Looks like you really missed an opportunity there in Olden. You really should drive up and see Oldevatnet. Also if you drive all the way you will come to a car park from where you can hike and see the Briksdalsbreen glacier.

This years weather/temperature is NOT normal! I haven't been outside in a t-shirt yet and normally I do that in the beginning of May. I'm living above the arctic circle. It's been really cold this year🙁

When you are in the picture, it is better if you face the camera when you are talking.
You don´t need to buy water in Norway, fill a container at the gas station. totally free, and better than bottle-water. ;-)
Some gas station have water outside, but if not you can usually ask. And some of the lay by also have water. But unfortunately it less common than it was some decades ago.
But if not, fast moving water is safe to drink is you are upstream of the farms. Most Norwegians drink directly from small streams while hiking....

Norway is for rich ppl who go on holiday all the time and are running out of places to go. Obviously if you can only go away once every few years you're going do Italy/Slovenia/Croatia. Much cheaper, easier to reach and better weather.
