Ok, here we are almost a yr after the last talent show.
This is my son Mike (guitar) & his friend Weston (drums) @ their 9th grade talent show. They had to perform in under 5 minutes so they compiled some of their favorite bits in Master of Puppets and sort of came up with a MOP medley you might say?
Thanks for watching! Oh and... they got 1ST PLACE!! Good job guys!! \m/ Woot!!

I was so impressed by how on point both the drummer and guitarist were that I was thinking "even if they don't play the solo, they still killed it" but then they built up to the solo and my jaw hit the floor. They actually killed it
For a pair of 9th graders, with no vocals, no 2nd guitar and bass. ....in front of their whole school. ....They killed it!
They condensed it a little bit because of being only 1 guitar by skipping the middle interlude. Much easier to pull it off that way, needs 2 guitarists for it to sound right, so they made the right decision. Missing the other two players threw them out of timing with each other right after the solo, but hey......stuff happens, right?Throw two more talented kids in there with them, and I am willing to bet that they would have nailed it in its entirety!
Great job!
Impalaman1968. My car is a 71 stang with 429 988 hp. Rebuilt numbers matching. Pic is in my profile
There's also no way it would have sounded good at all without the bass in the interlude. You could potentially make it work playing the main line doubled on two strings but without the bass with notes that high it would just make the room feel dead.
i think the kid on guitar downpick the whole thing(except solo of course) just like James did which is pretty hard
And no monitors... a lot of so called pro musicians couldn't even play without monitors
@John Constantine "Metallica didn’t need bass" how? Most metallica songs are lifeless without bass + all their bass players have been an important part of songwriting.

Just saying, i see a lot of people shitting on the guitarist kid for having expensive stuff and thats just ignorant.
Main reason the kids i knew growing up had expensive gear was usually because they had a relative that played. The only kids i knew that had expensive gear simply because of rich parents usually werent this good.
And yeah you can rag on him a bit cause its not perfect, but i couldnt come close to playing this at his age. Its a very difficult song, and those whove never played on stage, if you havent practiced it to the point of muscle memory, youre going to fuck something up.
Give the kid a break, he killed
Dern Tillamisu Agreed. I played on shitty equipment when I started (and I still use the same beginner guitar and practice amp) but I think it’s awesome that this kid has the opportunity to use this equipment. If you have the skills to justify getting good gear, who’s to say you don’t deserve to play with it?
Dern Tillamisu Very well said, 100% agree
Word. And this kids Amp setting didn't look that expensive. Looked like a cheap head on a regular Marshall cab.
