Julian, 11 years old, plays AC/DC's Thunderstruck at Talent Show

- Julian is a bassist, but he started out playing guitar when he was 6. He was all set to play Cliff's part in Metallica's Orion at the talent show, but decided to play guitar at the last second. His guitar teacher, Donnie T. from Brindley's, was teaching him Thunderstruck at the time, and Julian really wanted to try to play it live. His brother plays only the guitar, so Julian wanted to get the chance to do a guitar solo on stage. I thought it was brave of him to go up there when he was still learning the song.
He didn't know what to do when the audience cheered too soon (on the part of the solo that he had just learned a couple of days before), but his music teacher, Ms. G, just gave him the sign to rock on when he looked over to her! She's actually the person who got both of my boys into music. Because of Ms. G, who just retired as one of Chandler's best teachers ever, Julian now plays bass, guitar, piano, and drums. And that's not even counting our German recorders, the didgeridoos, or all of the other crazy instruments that I have in my house! Thanks, Ms. G!
Julian also picked this song as a tribute to his uncle's dog Bella, who had just died that month. His uncle once played Thunderstruck while he showed his kids how his dogs could jump through hoops way up in the air. The music really got the kids excited to see some great jumps. And sure enough, the first dog looked like a hybrid between Carl Lewis and Michael Jordan. It was truly a magnificent jump through that hoop!
And then came Bella. She seemed to prepare for what would certainly be a spectacular jump. I had never seen a dog get low for a jump before. It was surreal. The kids shook with excitement as they imagined Bella soaring through the air to the crescendo of Thunderstruck. It was going to be something to see! But when Bella got to the hoop, she suddenly stopped, refusing to take another step. My brother then dropped the hoop to ground level, allowing her to walk through it. It turned out that Bella couldn't jump at all! She wouldn't even jump one inch. The hoop had to be touching the ground. My brother was just messing around. He was born that way, just like Julian. Those two kids are always clowning around.
Both of my brothers clown around a lot, but there is something about clowns and music. Both of my brothers really inspired my kids to get into music. It's great to have brothers like that!
When an 11 year old is better at guitar than I’ll ever be.
Me too! But you can't help but smile and watch.
Just try and try you don't learn by miracle
Don't worry about anyone being better than you.Just practise.Youll get there eventually.
Haha! Little buddy rocks❗️
Same lol🤣🤣🤣🤣
Next up its timmy playing Hot cross buns on the recorder!
😆 Holy crap, I laughed for like five minutes. Well done, sir.
OMFG instrument of satan!! LOL
Or Ralph with a triangle
Ha! 🤣
Very funny
Kid even wore shorts like Angus Young!
hi brother.
Angus beef
You here lol
He didn't hop around like Angus. Thanks for all you do, David!
yo you right
Teacher giving the horns is absolute gold.
And hats off to that kid. Thunderstruck is one of the most impressive guitar arpeggios out there. He absolutely nailed it.
Nvm I found it
It's not an arpeggio, thats tapping and hammer ons
None of the kids know what just happened but all the parents and teachers do. This kid rocks!!!
Going home from that school concert that night the parents were probably telling their kids your so uncool revenge for all the times the kids told them to get a life.
You'd be surprised how many kids today are into their parents music.
Awesome but damn he needed the drums to bring the house down.
All kids know this song, as this song is used in a soundtrack in planes 2 animated Disney movie
Hey im a kid and i do
The fact that he's left-handed makes it even cooler....
Nah it makes it more expensive tbh, im a lefty but play a righty bass, it doesn't change the amount if skill or anything, its cooler cause he's young
How can you tell?
The fact that ur a half hand is incredible
I'm 100% lefty. only thing i do right handed is play guitar
And the black sabbath t-shirt
This kid won that talent show for sure
Nah. Definitely the little girl signing ABC’s won.
Despite a few minor issues with timing this kid is simply amazing, all power to his digits. Of course Angus has a drummer to keep time so this youngster is easily forgiven his occasional timing issues! This kid managed it, left handed and at a very young age, and without a drummer! Flipping amazing so the question is what he’s going to do next?
And quite nervous as well, I imagine, which often leads to speeding up. But you’re dead on, this kid’s gonna be have killer gigs at bars well before he can buy drinks there lol
@@grayskindablue you’re absolutely spot on there mate, and upon reflection I realised just how idiotic my criticism of his tiny timing glitches (yes- nerves would be present as you said) but his playing was incredible. I’ll have to leave it to the youngsters to find out just how good he gets as I won’t be around by the time he can have his first beer (unless he nips over to the UK where drinking age is a sensible 18, but I still won’t be here. Such is life).
He’s 11-years old FFS and he could easily beat any guitarists that I know personally, that get paid for professional gigs. Hope all the praise we’re heaping on his young shoulders doesn’t ruin it for him, because I honestly think this kid go far
He’s going to revive rock music? Save us from the shit on the radio?
Slight timing issues.I think that was more fueled by adrenaline.
Fr but I think he could be nervous cause but he essentially has this down
99% of the kids in the audience be whispering to each other like...
"wait...who's abcd??"
😂😂😂
There are literally no kids I know who don’t know who AC/DC are.
nah- 50% are little girls who just got their first crush right now!
Probably
@@deathvideogame I’m a “kid” and I know what AC/DC is. It’s actually one of my fave metal / rock bands (raise a suiten is my fave). This kid was raised rivht
The audience didn't realize that they were supposed to chant "ah-ah-ah-AH-ah-ah-AH-ah" during the first part of the solo.
They forgot
They probably all walked out till he was done.
They were star struck
@@straydeviare they were "thunder struck"
No...they were THUNDERSTRUCK!
As someone who grew up in the ‘80s, I can say that, while the performance was not absolutely flawless, it was DAMN GOOD, especially for an 11-year-old. This guy has a future.
It was outstanding.
His genuine shock at all the applause at about 1:30 made me smile ear to ear!
That's so wholesome
awee
Does this 40 year old's heart good to see young kids rocking out to ACDC. The classics will never die as long as the newer generations play the riffs of the gods.
I took guitar in high school wasn’t that good due to a weird thing where my hands won’t work very good while doing a task if that makes sense? I wanted to learn how to play whole lotta love by Led Zeppelin crazy train by Ozzy Osbourne and lots of Beatles songs but I gave up sad to say
He isn't playing iron maiden
I'm 61 and know most Rock Groups hope it never dies
My son is 13, and he LOVES to play AC/DC... and I am a PROUD MOM who loves that my son is SOOOO F-ing AWESOME and knows GOOD MUSIC when he hears it! He ROCKS OUT!!! He don’t even know how cool he is...yet!
When he is leading the “bonfire jams” in a few years, all the kids that were like, “OMG! Stop playing that thing”... while they were trying to chat with their crush... will only be able to sit back and watch as all the ladies are LOVING THE ONE WITH THE STRINGS...
“The future is now old man”
“Very nice Julian, next up Bob is gonna show you the chicken dance!”
LOL
And then bob won
Why
someone say.... THU-NDER!
you really think kids have no talent huh?
He's seriously talented for his age.
Yes waltuh
None of these kids have any idea what they just witnessed. AMAZINGGG
I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it.
Back to the Future reference? Lol
Hell yes 🙌
Where did that line come from? I heard it various times but I don’t know whrre.
Did you just quote back to the future? lol
Great quote Marty 😉 one point twenty one gigawatts of retro cool points for that one 👍
What a talented, gifted young guitarist, and it’s good to see the young generation keeping the flame of rock n roll alive.
Rock n Roll will never die!
Taj farrant
I'm a gifted drummer lol. I can play Sheena is a punk rocker easy peasy. just hi hat snare hi hat snare hi hat snare repeated with crash cymbals to change verse. thats what my teacher taught me.
@@musoandafan965 yesssss
I began to play guitar when I was 10 and I haven’t stop since then
This so good. The band needs to see this.
Definitely!
That would be cool , I could see Angus giving this kid free tickets or something to a show.
For all the non guitarist’s out there, this is a very hard song to play at full speed because it uses hammering and pulling off and this guy is so good that he went too fast!
i dont play any insturment, but i´m very impressed of him, because i feel the music and ik how hard it is to play this even tho i never played it.
@@SalllyyFacee Yep. He was playing it faster than the original and if he would have slowed it down just a bit his timing would improve immensely, creating a flawless performance. Anyway, hats off to the kid. He did an excellent job with that tune.
I don't think the majority of the kids in the audience actually realize just how impressive he is.
The one agape behind him certainly does
Rightttt it would’ve been better if these kids knew where this was from
Playing AC/DC and wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt: This kid is raised right!
Lefty got to be a Iommi disciple
Hell yeah!
He is raised by the rock lords
Hell yea bud
Absolutely!!
I blame this kid.... I bought a sg and off I went into the unknown. F***ing loving it. Thanks for everything. If I meet you I owe you big time 👍
For a few seconds I closed my eyes listening, opened them and said to myself this kid is darn good! He sounds like an adult professional guitarist. It was great to see that smile peek out and I shouted keep going! Don’t stop!
Stay with it dude. Remember,
Its a long way to the top.
If ya wanna rock & roll.
I always thought it was a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll.
@@MrHayleynick I like that version better
Get use to getting ripped off and under paid😭
@@MrHayleynick hahaha that made me chuckle I think I'll use that😂😂
FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK FIIRREEEE
WEEEEEE SALLUUUTTEEEEEEE YOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
He's even wearing a Black Sabbath t shirt. This kid's parents knew how to raise him right! I can just picture him playing music in his room and his dad yelling "how many times do I have to tell you to turn that damn music UP"!
🤣😂🤣😂
What if in reality his parents listen to modern hip-hop but don't understand their son and his music taste
@@thisaccountisntreal107 Even then, they'd be doing something right.
@BBSTJ Lucky hes saying rock in general, i think he knows, if you know ozzzy then you know acdc, its like saying Justin biber and the jonas brothers they're not the same but same genre or music
Hi Mark, just saw you were sitting on 499 likes, so I've now put you to 500 lol! Cheers mate...
There are people who are born with an incredible ability. This young man is one of those people. I can see him in 5 years. Rock on dude! Rock on!
Love that the kid has a roadie to make sure the amp was set up correctly. Great job, kid!
Boys: does the solo
My brain: ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah thunder
If I was there, I would have started chanting "thunder"
All us oldies....THUNDER!!!
You would be have been escorted out by the PTA Nazis.
Korg am I right?
I'm 32 and I would have started chanting "THUNDER" and the "ah ah ah ah ah ah ah"
How could you not?? That's good stuff!
This talented kid and his parents have good taste in music, Angus would be proud.
I don't think a lot of the kids in that audience realize how hard ot actually is to play that song. It is no small feat and is a giant milestone for many guitar players.
Awesome. I like that this young kid dug up the AC-DC. I’m 54, was and still is my favorite band. And I still crank it up to 11. Every time.
yep!
I don’t always listen to AC/DC but when I do, so do the neighbors!
If it’s too loud. Your too old ;-)
What a legend.....Mum and Dad obviously have a great record collection.
Rock on young man! That's a challenging piece to do solo, especially. I hope you continue to learn and progress, as you apparently have a great deal of passion for music. Please don't ever lose that. The world needs artists and I can hardly think of anything better than music to give your talent and dedication to. Peace!
THIS KID IS A LEGEND
They had an interview with ACDC after they recorded Thunderstruck and they said that was the most complicated guitar riff that they'd ever tried!!
No chance that's real. It's literally such a simple song to play.
Yep, Angus needs to practice it for about 30 mins before going out on stage or he says he'll muck it up.
No acdc riffs are that hard besides this one they all are on the same few scales and notes
Rather easy to play. Not complicated at all. But definitely fun.
@@Wolfsschanze99 I find this very very hard to believe. If he actually said this he's definitely joking.
Julian will always be able to look back on this moment when everything changed. The moment he became the coolest kid in school!
I also peaked in 5th grade. Its been all downhill since.
@@richardmcdonald6237 hahaha.
@@richardmcdonald6237 fax😔
Do the other kids actually know he's the coolest 11 year old around? They probably think it was just noise on the guitar, not an actual song.
I love the fact he's left handed and doesn't change the way he holds or plays that guitar. Excellent job. This kid is pretty damn good!!!!
If he keeps playing like that he will end up making it big as a rock star.
Bullies in the crowd like "I can do that I just don't want to"
They be like “dude... you need a bodyguard, or someone to give swirlies?”
Hah I was the 100 like
Little man is SHREDDING that opening solo!
DUDE this is one of my favourite AC/DC songs and well jeez he is so good he has some real talent
I could play a mean “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on the clarinet when I was eleven. He’s almost at that level.
I bet it was adorable 😁🤭
Salute!
Little man has on a Black Sabbath t-shirt. That alone is awesome.
And who said Rock and Roll was dead? Thanks for keeping Rock alive, and keeping the faith! Long live Rock !
....yeah...🎶it will live forever...🤘🏻.....
According to Mr. Simmons, fans killed it.
whoever this kid's parents were raised this child well
I just saw the description 5 seconds after seeing him smile when he looked over to the teacher. Had me melted
The teachers appreciated this song more than the students
If that was a teacher with the clipboard in the hallway no wonder even the shy boys want to show out😆
I mean let's be honest. This song came out when most of those teachers were about this kids age, as crazy as that sounds in my head. Great music transcends generations.
The crowd is drunk off capri sun and orange slices, couple kids got kicked out for doing lines of pixy stix
Don't forget they were puffing some smarties too
😂😂😂😂
You mean Pixy "Styx", right?
While snorting some fun dip and getting rain dances from girls
Bathrooms are a mess
Give him about 10 more years and see how good he gets.
He totally kills it!!! LOVE.
You've more musical talent than you could imagine! Reach for the stars kid, YOU ROCK!!! DON'T EVER LET ANYONE DISCOURAGE YOU!!!!!
Amen to that!!!!
This is like Marty McFly playing the electric guitar to the dance crowd back in 1955. He was probably getting the same looks from the kids.
Behind the times instead of ahead
Calvin kline lol
they not ready for this way head of his time
Haha.. you ain't ready for it yet.. but you kids are gonna love it.
Yep
as an Australian I'm so proud of this boy ad/dc is one of the best Australian bands ever

I love seeing kids play real music, love you little buddy for keeping Rock and roll metal alive
He looked scared to death until the crowd applauded. Then his confidence grew and he looked comfortable....very cool
I wish I have a music teacher like her.
I keep coming back to this. This kid is insane

Old soul was reincarnated into this kid and gave him the gift of rock!!
I feel bad for the kid who had to follow him making shadow puppets as his talent.
Too funny
🤣🤣🤣
Maybe it was a Japanese kid with an electric violin that played it even better. 😆
Hahaha
Oh no poor kid
This is why music should stay in schools! Great job young man! 🙂👍
Dude gave me chills.... Well done young man
he knew exactly what song to play to get the adults excited about a kid playing guitar. He's also better than ill ever be
It’s good to see a young person keeping good music alive.
I want to see the dad playing air guitar with him in the audience.
Dad is probably crying tears of joy :)
I want to see the dad stand up with a lighter.
I love acdc. Respect. 🤟👌
The amount of time it would take for me to play that song myself would probably be about 5 years. This kid is awesome at the guitar. 👀😎❤️
Anyone whose band played their school talent show knows exactly how nerve-wracking this experience is!
He’s rocking a Black Sabbath shirt, One of my favorite bands and I’m a huge Ozzy fan. I’m 54 yrs old and I still crank up my stereo when a good tune comes on the radio
i like how the kid brought his own guitar tech / roadie
