8-Year-Old Breaks Several Bones in Climbing Accident

- Erin and Gideon Brewer recorded their 8-year-old son George reach the top of an illuminated climbing wall on the Navy Pier in Chicago. Suddenly, he fell 24 feet off the climbing wall to the concrete floor. George's parents say he was wearing a harness but they realized there was no safety rope way too late. Luckily, George survived but he suffered several broken bones, a concussion and underwent three surgeries. Now, the popular tourist attraction is facing a lawsuit.
HOW THE HELL DO YOU LET SOMEBODY CLIMB WITHOUT CHECKING IF THE SAFTEY EQUIPMENT IS ACTUALLY ATTACHED?!!
75% betting it was a stoned teenage worker.
As someone who did rock climbing (both indoors and outdoors), we'd always double check that our security straps were all in check before going on any type of wall or cliff.
Who cares this is funny
Did you hear the ending of the story? The family was told (allegedly) not to climb the wall but they did so any way.

Massive respect to him for being able to climb that with no rope attached, and also surviving the fall.
Also, why is there no soft padding at the bottom? That’s just stupid.
Well, he virtually did. What really hinders climbers is the fear of falling and/or of heights. Having that rope on, or believing it's on in this case and by extension, the harness gives the climber assurance that they're safe to throw caution to the wind, especially when they've made the climb before, meaning they'll blindly expect they'll be safe because they've done it before. I know the fall isnt funny and must of hurt the boy and his family a lot but the sound of the bang got me 😂
The thud sounded brutal. . Thank god hes still alive! ❤
Thank God he is alive. This boy was blessed
As a parent. I would def check my kids safety before going higher than 6ft high. But damn that’s sad I’m sorry for the kid and hope he recovers fast bless up
I was thinking the same...
You and me both. Didn't they watch him get suit up? He had a harness on but not connected to a bungee rope?
@@Lindsay-nx5sv it was the parents fault lol
@@UrbanMotions It was not the parents
If I was a parent, I wouldn't let my kid climb any rock wall that was over solid concrete with no padding. Even if the rope is attached, that's still asking for sprained ankles because a stupid employee didn't know how to do the grapple slow enough.
Hearing that thud made my legs hurt
HE'S SO OKAY 😢😢
Oh god, hearing the thud physically hurt me. I can't imagine how much pain he's was in. So glad he's doing better now
I can’t imagine what it was life for his mother you can hear in her screams how worried she was for her son. I wish good prayers to him and his family
It was horrible but she should have been worried for her son ahead of time. Dark, no pads to fall on and no safety rope and she let him go????
@@melaniemmml2654 they didn’t know that there was no safety rope and the rock climbing areas have ropes for majority, if not, all the time.
@@Sxin209 she didn't know there wasn't a rope because she cared more about videotaping her son climbing for the internet clout, then actually caring about her son's safety. Horrible parenting 101.
@@Sxin209 well that's the thing. I'd NEVER in a million years let my son climb a wall without standing there with him to ensure they hooked him up properly. I feel so sorry for this little boy. I think he didn't listen, parents weren't supervising per usual and he scurried up the wall and mama was too scatterbrained to pay attention to anything but videoing it. Not only that but it's concrete underneath. Parents fault.
@@skankhunt3624 Recording a video for your Facebook friends to see isn't tryna get internet clout smh
the sound of his bones breaking is actually a horrible sound im glad hes oke thank god hes alive
u said it
The bones breaking is the most terrifying sound ever
I’m a rock climber and these temporary walls always scare me. If you want to climb go to a gym where there is supervision on courses. Even before you climb you should check your harness and pull, just to be sure you’ll be safe if you slip. Even after two years of climbing I always check myself and my belay partner.
Poor kid, I wish this boy and his family all the best.
I wish the boy clean ears so he can listen when and when not to climb. I wish him better eyes so he can see if he’s strapped on
@@ghoetzinjal2660 even if he ran off why did the person go stop him? He is a kid not a professional climber.
Us climbers always double check but it kinda looks like some kinda event with ppl with no climbing experience participating.
Definitely the responsibility of the organizers for safety checks.
Trusting people, you pay like McDonald’s employees, with your life has consequences.
How do you not know there is no rope attached before going up? The parents, the person in charge of putting the harness on and attaching the rope..I just don’t understand how you don’t know. As a parent, I would think the first thing you would think of was your child’s safety. This is terrible what happened to that little boy. He’s a fighter and I hope he makes a speedy full recovery ❤️🩹
No fr I didn't wanna say anything but that's kinda faulting on the parents too for not even REALIZING there wasn't anything saving him that ENTIRE TIME. Yeah, it's faulty for the people working on the place but seriously? You just noticed "too late" your CHILD wasn't attached to literally anything on that big ass wall. I would've been yelling for them to get down and stuff but y'know...
Either way, thank God the boy was alive after all this is hopefully making the best recovery possible. I can't imagine the fear the little boy had in those moments, I hope he gets well soon then sues this place or something. This should've never happened, especially to a kid.
I took my kids rock climbing and that was the first thing I would say every time they switched to climb “ make sure you hear it click” and I was there watching like a hawk, I don’t understand how nobody realized 🤷♀️ poor boy many blessings to him thank God he’s recovering 🙏
Say it louder for the people in back! The first thing I saw when I looked at this video was the fact that kids harness was not attached to anything and I'm not his mother and I wasn't there. Then when they said there was no padding and a concrete floor, I immediately thought to myself what is wrong with the parents letting their kids go up this thing. I am sorry that this child is injured but his parents did a horrible job of keeping him safe
My thoughts exactly like how did anyone not know or see that there was no rope? They were even recording it. Makes me kinda believe they told him not to and he went and they let him 🤔.
@@CryAboutIt-ImATroll You'd think that if you already pay people for something they would actually take care of the situation, not the parents fault at all.

It's a miracle he is alive. Is sad not even the parents noticed he was not attached while just focusing on getting a video.
They didn’t film a video for when he fell, they didn’t know. They did it so they can have good memories. It’s normal
Im wondering how they let him climb with out the rope even attached.
@@BabyBrummerAndrew yeah but they should have been paying attention
It was dark, the parents probably thought there was a rope. The people who were supposed to check it should’ve noticed they didn’t attach the rope.
@@BabyBrummerAndrew no, that's not normal that before you take your pictures or whatever you don't make sure that your child is safe when is gonna do something dangerous, like, I don't know🤔 climb a wall with that height, outside, when you don't even know the staff!....
