  • I decided to replace my scratched up front cowl, clean and regrease my wiper mechanism and installed an aftermarket airconditioner filter.
    FYI, none of the Mazda MX-5s / Miatas have aircon or cabin filters. I think it's dumb of Mazda to have designed the car that way. They probably did it with the idea that it's a convertible where the roof is going to be open anyway.
    Regardless, when I do have the roof closed, I want the air coming through my aircon vents to be filtered and clean! So, I added an aftermarket 3D printed aircon filter into the air intake which is located under the front cowl.

    FYI, that cowl dresses up really nice when you apply Pledge (Yes, Pledge, the furniture polish, lol), keeps it dark. I had a friend make those covers for the screws on his 3D printer. He made several as those tend to wear out and suddenly disappear. Thanks for your video!

      Pledge! 😃 gotta give that a try!
      The screw covers are really cheap and easy to find on ali express or eBay. They're a shared part on the mazda 2 and cx5 - both of which are also manufactured in China for the Chinese market so... 😊

    Did you have the hood open when you removed the wiper arms? It would be easier to do it with the hood closed because you can just fold the arms up to take pressure off from the arm.

    Hi bro, my prht roof won’t open just the back seems to open and close, battery recently went flat. Any ideas would be appreciated, someone said there’s a reset button behind passenger seat? But buggard if I can find it! Any help would be appreciated. Windows work closing roof button flashes. 🍻Mike

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  Рік тому +3

      Hi Mike. It's hard to pinpoint the cause just from that description alone. The battery going flat may be unrelated and just a coincidence that you ran into the issue soon after.
      The "reset switch" you mentioned seems to be the one pictured on this thread: forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=6593185
      But if that doesn't work, I'd also recommend checking the following:
      - fuses
      - is the hex screw/ bolt for aligning the roof mechanism Tightened up. Discussed in detail on post 118 of this thread: forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=472651&page=5
      - are the gears and joints lubricated? If not, put some grease on
      - are any of the gear teeth damaged? If so, this could be a more expensive repair.
      The above list are the easy things to check. But if none of these find your problem, it could be faults in the motors, switch modules (for roof and/or windows) or sensors which can be a bit harder to diagnose without part swapping
      Hope that helps!

    No cabin or engine air filter? There're videos on here showing how to change. Found info about changing the cabin air filter every 15K miles and the engine air filter every 30-40K miles. Now I'm confused.

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  2 місяці тому +1

      The information you found on filter change intervals is generally applicable to all cars.
      Miatas all have engine air filters. But they don't have cabin air filters. Hope that clears things up! 👍

    For what exacly is this mod?

    • @TachOnRed
      @TachOnRed  3 місяці тому +1

      Its just a filter to keep out debris and dirt from being sucked into the aircon system.
      All other cars have one from the factory. Miatas don't because they're intended to mainly be driven with the roof open, so the Mazda engineers decided that filtering outside air was unnecessary.
      This filter is not as effective as the factory aircon filters in other cars. But it will keep larger bits of dirt out of the system and help prolong the life of the aircon blower motor and fan.

    • @TachOnRed

      I would buy it only if I was going to use it as a base for an engine swap and if it was super dirt cheap. But otherwise, I recommend you walk away and look for another NC. 😊

      I'm not sure because I've only had mine for like 3 months. I also think it'll depend what kind of filter media you're using.
      I'm using kitchen exhaust filter sheets from my local dollar store. I've put 2 layers of it in.
      I'll probably check it every 2nd oil change and just replace it when it starts to look shabby. I got enough of the stuff to fit an entire commercial kitchen.
