My top five mods would be: 1: Sway Bars (front and rear) - these are the absolutely best bang for buck mod, hands down 2: Lightweight Flywheel - quick shifts, better acceleration 3: Cold Air Intake - Intake noises make me smile 4: 17x8 rims - for better look and wider tires 5: Upper Front Strut Bar - quicker load transfer in the front and more road feel
I rarely comment, but you're the reason im picking up my own NC GT LE from '06 this wednesday, so incredibly excited to have that be my new daily! Bright red too LOL
My best NC mods top five... 1.) Coilovers - ZetaCRDs 2.) Wheels - Flyin Miata Kogeki 17x8 3.) Adjustable Intermittent Wipers (I live in Seattle, we need this here) - great cheap mod! 4.) Android Auto head / Bosectomy 5.) Exhaust
Love your channel! I had a ‘92 Miata that I bought in 1997. Changed out the shocks, springs, tires, wheels, and brakes. I was planning to paint it and start tackling engine mods when I sold it in 2003 because my wife and I had twins. Now they are getting close to graduating from college and I’m tired of driving my Jeep for the last 12 years. So I’m looking at Miata’s again. And I think the NC’s are my favorite. I hope I don’t have to wait too long to enjoy Miata’s again!
My absolute #1 NC "mod" is keeping my drain tubes clean ...otherwise it fills up with water. Best "real" mod was full suspension, wheels, tires... Progress springs, koni sports, RoadsterSport sways and links, rpf1s, Continental high performance all seasons (New Jersey), and EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, a good performance alignment. NC transformed.
Yep. Suspension stuff first. The rest of the car is so good, it's just personal preference choices after that. I have almost the exact set up as you including the Continental tires. Absolutely love driving my little go cart.
Picking up an NC tomorrow in Denver, driving it home to Utah. This is almost the EXACT plan for my first mods to thr car. After that will add the BBR 225 kit and turn the streets into my personal race track haha
Ha didn’t expect my failing coolant tank to get mentioned the same day as the cruise, efficient production time! For those wondering it’s the HKAUTOPART NC aluminum tank from Amazon but has “AlloyWorks” logo on it, had okay reviews but yeah since we confirmed beyond a doubt today that coolant was spitting out around the viewport (thankfully never all of it) I pulled a hose out of the way and found that it’s “user serviceable,” as in I was able to CRANK it down tight with a 21 mm. Now I’m going to wash up the bay and observe!
I guess this is why everyone says get a quality one or an oem one? No shade at all because it's a ton of money for a metal box and considered one of those as well.
@@Krasniyeyeah no doubt considering this was 1/3 the cost of a Moroso and looked well put together, was totally worth trying it. Hopefully tightening it down will be a permanent fix.
@@youmongrel hope so! The cost of a moroso is brutal and I'm still crying about it lol. Maybe if all else fails you could take it to a machine shop and have them weld over it.
@@Krasniye great news, I just drove it like hell and opened the hood as soon as I pulled in - no more leak! But the fact still holds Jordan, it is an unnecessary point of failure. Nice to be able to see the fluid though.
My favourite mods so far have been 1. FM Springs and Koni Shocks -They're still so comfy to drive on but feel amazing in twisting corners 2. RX7 wheels -They just suit the car so well and make it look like a stumpy RX7 3. RX8 Swaybars front red and rear yellow -Just lets you throw the car around corners 4. Custom armrest -I made an armrest out of black vinyl, memory foam from a bathmat and some wood that slows into the cupholder. It looks factory and feels amazing 5. Backbox and resonator delete -Can't remember what brand of backbox but it sounds so good with the roof down
I've just got an IL Motorsport rear box which is about to be fitted and have ordered Moroso Expansion tank from Flying Miata after watching this video and doing the research 😀 Will take a while to arrive as i live in the United Kingdom. Keep the videos coming 👌😎 1:45
Good , informative video thanks. I have a NC2 PRHT, Bilsteins, LSD, drive year round snows on daily driver. I have replaced the coolant tank with a Moroso, keep my eye on the glass gauge which is useless anyway, I have changed the wiper stalk (thanks) and replaced the horn with an air horn (much better) one you didn't mention. I'm waiting for the roof controller to become available again but that's next. I'd like to see a video on maintaining the PRHT and a video on driving skills, specifically in the Miata , heel toe cornering etc. Thanks again loved the drive and the discipline of the other drivers, good spacing no hot heads. Greg
Would love to see a "best xyz mods" cheap mods under $100, $200. Best interior mods. Best easy mods. I think since there's a much larger NA/NB community you should stick with NC specific stuff.
Only had my 2011 nc 2lt manual for a few months, but aluminium coolant tank was first, Michelin pilot 5 tyres were second with a wheel alignment. 20mm wheel spacers all round 3rd. Stubby aerial, 4th and a silver go faster stripe was 5th. Um, what next, so many choices... brilliant video. John
I've only been an NC owner for about a month and a half. 2006 NC Touring (so not the coolest or most desirable but all NCs are awesome!) So far what I've done: 1. Stock head unit Aux mod + Bluetooth module. Was very cheap and works great! Better Bluetooth quality than cheap head units I've had in the past! And was only $30 or so and keeps the aesthetic. Stubby Antenna self explanatory Cheap led interior light kit, cheap and makes things a lot nicer for the trunk and cabin in the dark Moroso coolant expansion tank. The price hurt a lot but the peace of mind is worth it. Something I think would be a good video is about soft tops. Mine like many I'm sure has developed some small holes. I'm in a FB NC group full of crotchey old dudes who go "replace it it's dead!" or even worse "only drive on nice days!" which is super super lame. I'm sure there's been a lot of creative fixes from soft top repair kits to flex tape to sewing. It would be very interesting to see what people have come up with, what works, what doesn't work, and how long it works. Keep the videos up!
Coolant tank for sure, which I did first, it’s cheap insurance. Koni coilovers, wheels and tires are ordered, waiting on shipping. Radio is next. Definitely agree and can’t wait to get mine done.
Hi - GREAT video! The drive with all those Miatas looks really fun. I know you're in Colorado, but when and where is this event? I would love to drive there and join ya next time! Let me know, please. Take care!
Hi I just bought a 2012 miata with the hard top and was wondering if you have done a video on manually putting up a hard top if it stops working Thanks
I started with the coolant expansion tank (I went with moroso because I didn't know davefab existed. Kinda wish I had though because now I want to pull it back out and have it powder or cerakoted black) Then I swapped in a Kenwood Excelon Reference head unit (speakers, amps, subs, etc... later) Then I installed the stubby antenna. So I only have a top 3, lol. My next mod though is going to be the FM turbo kit though, and after that suspension. I want to do tires/wheels, but I'm still trying to decide which wheels to go with out of the tiny list of options we have, plus mine is a Club, and those stock wheels are pretty nice. I did put some 215/45/17s on, but that was only because it's what the local shop had in stock when I had to replace them, and they're not like, amazing or anything, pretty standard fare all weathers.
If going with yellow Komi shocks get them from Goodwin Racing. They have two matching sets of springs depending on the year of your car. For the record you mention sway bars - they are actually anti-sway bars.
i just got the same atoto radio from a giveaway (lol) , is installation easy? ive never done anything to this degree and was wondering on how installation and the sound quality is and/or any tips with the system in general
My subjective NC mod list would be (in no particular order): (1) Suspension (Progress springs, Koni Sport shocks, and Flyin’ Miata sway bars) (2) Double-din head unit to add in-dash navigation (3) Mazda 6 wiper stalk for variable intermittent wipers (4) Cipher steering wheel with upgrade to factory steering wheel controls (I have a Sport model, which lacked cruise control) (5) Yes, the coolant expansion tank (in my case, a Moroso tank)
The Cipher wheel is amazing BUT when I did mine the grooves that align to the steering column were not a perfect match to factory, even after three tries of removing and moving to the next available tooth. Had to get an alignment for it to be perfectly straight so prepare for that and don’t kill yourself trying to remedy in the garage.
I'm gonna get a lot of hate, but apart from tyres and maybe a bit more power, I prefer them standard. That's wht we love the miata in the first place? You could do all these mods to most cars and they would become sports cars
Lowering and installing a flush wheel and tire package probably resolves most of the original factory appearance deficiencies. The change is dramatic. Yes, put in a 7” double DIN. I followed FF and put in the same 10” sub woofer behind the driver’s seat as well. It sure makes it fun feeling your music. As for the exhaust that’s a mixed bag. The axel back is never as loud as you expect it to be on wide open throttle and the highway drone is louder and annoying than you would expect. I would keep the engine stock, the build quality and reliability is amazing, I almost at 190k. No leaks or oil consumption.
My top 5 (in no particular order) 1. Coolant expansion tank, just buy a quality aluminum one and be done with it. 2. Koni sport shocks, lowering springs, front and rear sway bars. (I know this is technically more than 1 thing, but I count it all as one) 3. Continental DSW tires 4. MX5 Things roof controller. Should be mandatory for all PRHT owners 5. Foglights as DRL modification. If someone hits you because they don't see you, you're not going to be able to enjoy your Miata very well. 6. I also did the head unit as well as the Clearwater speakers, so a half Bosectomy.
