Neil was up in Canada, near a Native American reservation and heard a story about how there would be dances on the reservation. For the men who couldn't get dates for the dances, they would go to the store to buy a bottle of cheap wine, labeled Crackling Rosé. The bottle would be the man's "date" for the night. A "store-bought woman" they called Cracklin' Rosie.
Makes sense in a place that is short on females abd najes are the dominant gender.
I think it would be a “Native Canadian” reservation since it was in Canada. 🇨🇦
@@Lakeshore14 They're Native Americans too technically
@@Lakeshore14 no, I meant Native North American. Native American, which covers the whole continent, not just the United States or Canada. Frankly, if I knew which tribe, I would have said that instead.
@@strangeworldsunlimited712 I suspected that was what you meant….native North American. All’s well. 👍
It's about a cheap bottle of wine.
I sing this song at karaoke love Neil Diamond I sing 5 songs of his
Love Neil Diamond.Check out Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand "You Don't Bring Me Flowers."
Another sweet song is Neil Sedaka's "Lauhgter In Rain."
I’m in tears. Made me remember riding with my dad in his truck and singing this song together. Such a great memory. Thank u for this song 🤗❤️
Neil diamond was a great singer he had alot of great songs
Diamond wrote many of the Monkees songs. Some of Neil's other songs you will probably like are: "The Grass Won't Pay No Mind", "Solitary Man", "Holly Holy", "I Am, I Said", "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon", and "Shilo". Love watching y'all share our own love of the music, renewed.
He also ironically wrote Red Red Wine.
@@EmoBearRights No way! UB40? Love that! Reggae vibe.
Hell yes I am I said
@@MisterWondrous .. Sorry Mr. Wondrous .. Neil wrote "Red Red Wine" way back in 1967 and recorded it while he was contracted w/ Bang Records at the time. It was released on Neil's 2nd studio album "Just for
You" .. Here is the link to Neil's original studio version 1968. I was 4 y/o .. ua-cam.com/video/BeJ55sUacPM/v-deo.html
@@MisterWondrous That was pretty much UB40's reaction when they found out. They thought they were covering a reagae song it turns out they covered a reagae cover of a Neil Diamond song.
Neil was a involved in the Freedom Riders. He came to Mississippi to help with the move. Went to a tent revival and got the idea for Brother Loves Travling Salvation Show. It will take you to church!
Great reaction and selection you 2. It's about a bottle of cheap wine. Love watching you kids. Love your streams. When I'm down. You 2 get me back up in a good mood. I hope and pray you 2 keep going stronger every day. And may God Bless and keep you Shawn and Mel.
I was a teenager in the 70's. My eldest auntie was in her 60's and loved her some Neil Diamond. We were next door neighbors for a while when she retired. I used to open my windows and crank Neil Diamond for her. As soon as she heard it, you could see her windows opening up. A particular favorite was "Cherry Cherry" from the 60's. Rest in Peace Auntie Etta, hope you are listening to Neil in heaven.
Love Neil. All his music is Great! Always love Shawns responses. Because I know he is honest with his reactions. If he loves it, I can always tell.
Neil told David Wild at Rolling Stone: "On Saturday nights when they go out, the guys all get their girl; the guys without girls get a bottle of Cracklin' Rosé, that's their girl for the weekend."
Wow thanks for that tidbit!
This from Google: The stories about how Diamond was inspired to write the song are apocryphal. "Crackling Rosé" is the name of an inexpensive sparkling wine once produced by Andres Wines of British Columbia, Canada, which was popular among the indigenous population. One story suggests that Diamond heard a story about a native Canadian tribe while doing an interview in Toronto, Canada-the tribe had more men than women, so the lonely men of the tribe would sit around the fire and drink their wine together-which inspired him to write the song.[2]
Neil tells the story of this song during his BBC concert 1971 which can be found on UA-cam. Phil Donahue called Neil Diamond “ the poet of our time.” I think that’s very accurate. The man’s music has brought so much joy into my life.
Great reaction! You clearly enjoyed that song. Neil Diamond is undoubtedly one of the best singer-songwriters ever. He sold over 130 million albums, sold out huge arenas and stadiums around the world and received numerous awards. Please react to other songs of this giant, with one of the most distinctive voices in modern pop music and tons of charisma. Try Solitary Man, Holly Holy, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Dry Your Eyes, America, Beautiful Noise or even more recent songs like Hell Yeah, Pretty Amazing Grace, Nothing But A Heartache. You won't be disappointed!
Between this and "Red Red Wine", Neil seems to have a theme going. : )
My heart is always filled with joy when see and hear Neil. ♥ Seeing him live perform was the icing on the cake for me. If it was on my "bucket list" then I can check that off. What a thrill for me, that a few years ago and I still remember it. LOL
Here’s a little musical fact : screech from the save the bell and Mike D from beastie boys are Neil diamond kids .
Great song, guys! Another one you might want to check out by Diamond is "Solitary Man". Johnny Cash also did a cover of that, and I'd call it a toss-up as to which is better.
Yes, Solitary Man is a gem.
@@extracaliber432 👍🏼And so is, ‘Brooklyn Roads.’
This guy was a fabulous song writer. He's been around a long time I grew up listening to him. He wrote and preformed sweet Caroline. After Caroline Kennedy. They sing it alot at sporting events.
8th inning, Red Sox games.
@@rosemarymagrino772 damn straight ... as much a part of the BoSox as Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, and Fenway, Sweet Caroline every game for over ¼ century
great artist Neil Diamond
This is a song about wine called Cracklin Rose
Dude love this guy
I do like a bit of Neil Diamond. One of my guilty pleasures. My favourite is Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon. Also, being the first Neil Diamond song that I remember as a kid, I really like Forever In Blue Jeans. Song Sung Blue is also one to listen to.
Our man LOVES those drops, and the Orioles. Nobody is perfect. GO ROYALS!
Neil Diamond is a deep well, it is worth a look see. " Forever in Blue Jeans" is one of my favorites. Enjoy
Glad you guys like it - It's one of my fave of his - you gott check out Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon - awesome - but make sure it's the original 1966 version.
“Sweet Caroline” is Neil Diamond’s best!! You have to. 😁❤️
Neil is a great song writer with a huge catalog. Another singer not done by many reactors is Harry Nilsson. The Beatles were huge fans of him and partied with him at every opportunity. His biggest hits were "Without You" "Everybody's Talking", "Jump Into The Fire" and "Coconut". "Everybody's Talking" is from the theme of Midnight Cowboy movie.
I love Neil Diamond - I bought every album he made as soon as it hit the shops ... He has a voice! It was smooth rockin', lots of lovin' .. The stress was much easier to brush off your shoulders when the work was done ...
I also love you two !! You rock so well together ...
'I Am, I Said' is another great, personal song from Neil Diamond.
I remember Crackling Rose wine. It was quite good and inexpensive. I think it was made in Canada and probably wasn't available in the US.
no it wasn't but " ripple wine "was .
@B Gallagher absolutely right.... boones farm strawberry hill wine. remember both very well. don't forget thunderbird wine. dating ourselves
It was available in US, I had it many times, at least in some places in Illinois it was which is where I had it often.
Neil Diamond has a song called Hello Again. That's one to hear
You guys are fabulous ,,, Love you "" Your attitude to Music / race is so refreshing ,, Stay safe & well ,, I'm a white , retired Senior from Uk .. But you are now my go too people ..
Neil is one of my favorite singers of all time. So handsome. Fantastic voice. Crackling Rosie was cheap wine. Lol! Absolute Legend.
Fun fact: Neil Diamond was actually in MEDICAL SCHOOL and quit one semester before graduating and becoming a doctor to become a performing singer/songwriter.
Listen to Neil Diamond’s “America” off of “The Jazz Singer” album…a truly beautiful song. I saw him in concert in Baltimore back in ‘94…fantastic! “Love On The Rocks,” “Be,” “Longfellow Serenade,” oh so many songs!
Loved the theme song from the movie Hello Again cried
Neil Diamond/Done Too Soon and also Song Sung Blue
Lord have mercy my mother loved this song. I now understand why lol
Cracklin Rosie is a bottle of wine period
This man is a Legend. He has so many great songs, it’s difficult to name even half
of them. I saw him in concert and he performed for over 3 hours. Incredible.
“Solidarity Man,” “I Am I Said,” “Cherry Cherry.” Just a couple…
My very favorite N.D. Song! Y’all would like to go to church with:
Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show
What a voice... unreal.
Thanks all!!!
Brother loves traveling salvation show is my favorite neil diamond song
Neil's songs span generations, they are just that darn good!
Cracklin Rosie is a Bottle of Wine (Rose Red wine) and how it helps him write music by bringing out creativity. "Store bought woman you make me sing like a guitar hummin", "Maybe last for an hour, but thats alright, we got all night"
a Ros'e is a blended wine that is part white and red mixed for a pink color. The wine was very popular in the early 70's and I spent a lot of time with friends sharing a bottle.
Heehee it's cheap wine and I love this song. Love your reaction!!!
Neil is a dream! His voice, his looks, everything. Do yourselves the favor of watching The Jazz Singer, too.
"Cracklin' Rosie" is a bottle of wine. Diamond got the idea for the song from a folk story of an Indian tribe in Northern Canada who had more men than women .
Neil Diamond is SO UNIQUE, his songwriting, his voice, his style, have always loved him
Crackling Rosie is a bottle of wine
Listening to some clues in this song it takes me to a summer eve, a railroad riding bum with his bottle of wine. No need for hanging out with the rich and affluent in a piano bar. This was just as good for him.
There is a great story behind this song that is about a bottle of wine. Last I seen you can still buy this wine. I read an interview by Neil Diamond he had performed a concert in a town that closed at dark. One of the employees of the concert place took him to the hotel where his room was. And left him. There was nothing to do and he was stranded. The town was dark, nothing to do. The only thing in the room was a basket with a bottle of cracklin Rose wine, crackers, cheese and fruit. He said "Well Rosie, I guess it just you and me tonight" he then sat down and wrote this song on a napkin in 25 minutes. Then released it and it instantly made him 35 million.

BJ Thomas was another great singer. Rock and Roll Lullaby was one of my favorites by him. If you haven't already reacted to him, I think you would both really love his voice. Great reaction as always!
BJ Thomas isn't Canadian. He was born in OK and grew up in the Houston area. But yes, great singer!!
@@davedave8602 ugh you're right, I am thinking of Gordon Lightfoot... thanks for the correction!
Both of you make me smile; I thank you very much! Oh, I love Neil Diamond's music.
This man has been great for decades. He also is a great entertainer. Seen him perform twice. Tremendous.
Love this ❤
I love this song!
Thanks for your reaction. Love your channel.
Cheap, fortified wine. That's Cracklin Rosie. Had a few "Dates" like this back in the day.
Love this song!
I absolutely love you guys!!
I love how you dissect the lyrics… Because songs and lyrics can be very special with meaning that’s deep and not so deep.
Love you guys and your reaction 😂👍❤️❤️
Cracklin Rosie is a bottle of red wine 🍷
I really enjpy watching your reactions to music from my time! And yes, you are correct - we did have good music. It's so nice to see young people appreciate it!
Neil is a favorite of my mom. I grew up listening to him. This and "Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show" are my favorites from him.
I didn't know what it was either! I found out later that it was a bottle of cheap wine. This song was on his album Taproot Manuscript which has another song I love called Cold Water Morning.
Cracklin rosie was a wine that was store bought and he wrote a song about it
Thank you. Grieving the lost of iconic Naomi Judd of The Judd’s.
Good to hear this song!
A little drink and he’s feeling fine!
Crackling Rosie a store bought woman was his bottle of wine or spirits !!!!
*Ya gotta react to his song; Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show.*
I love Neil Diamond’s music but I always thought it was called Cracklin Rose! He’s a great singer, songwriter and musician
Listen to Sweet Caroline….
Neil Diamond
Never cared what this was about. All I know he is one of the great singer songwriters of all time and this was a banger.
Neil could’ve been the best songwriter of his time. I loved song sung blue it was the second side of a 45 record. The other side would’ve been number one. The other side was my song. I played it over and over again. I was allowed this music but I hid myself and listened so no one could hear.
I think it's about a bottle of wine, if i remember correctly.
Solitary Man is a winner please listen.
Where I come from Crackling Rose' is pink champagne.
Cracklin' Rosie is cheap wine for the "lonely."
one of the greatest song writers ever, LOVE Neil!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎶💯
If You need to "Get Right with Jesus", Try Neil's Song "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show".
Aw, Cracklin' Rosie, get on board
We're gonna ride
'Till there ain't no more to go
Taking it slow
And Lord, don't you know
We'll have me a time with a poor man's lady
Hitchin' on a twilight train
Ain't nothing here that I care to take along
Maybe a song
To sing when I want
No need to say please to no man
For a happy tune
Oh, I love my Rosie child
You got the way to make me happy
You and me we go in style
Cracklin' Rose
You're a store bought woman
But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'
So hang on to me, girl
Our song keeps runnin' on
Play it now, play it now
Play it now, my baby
Cracklin' Rosie, make me a smile
Girl, if it lasts for an hour, that's all right
Cus We got all night to set the world right
Find us a dream that don't ask no questions
Yeah
Oh, I love my Rosie child
You got the way to make me happy
You and me we go in style
Cracklin' Rose
You're a store bought woman
But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'
So hang on to me, girl
Our song keeps runnin' on
Play it now, play it now
Play it now, my baby
