Being Neil Diamond's age myself, you should react to Neil when he's much younger. He had real long hair and was very good looking, the women were crazy about him! This and his music is what brought him to such fame! He even had a BBC Live Concert Special in 1971, you can find it and a lot of clips and possibly the whole concert here on UA-cam! He was part of the 60s cultural music revolution that helped reshaped everything in the music and American culture in the late 60s and 70s. Watching this performance of Neil Diamond is kind of like wanting to know who Paul McCartney is by watching a current performance of Paul today instead of watching a video of Paul perform back in the 60s. Great video!.....Here would be perfect live performance to start with.. "Neil Diamond--I Am I Said--B B C Live Concert 1971" search here on UA-cam, takes you right to it!

One of the best singer-songwriters ever. He sold over 130 million albums worldwide, broke attendance records wherever he performed and received numerous awards. His songs were covered by the greatest and he's the writer of I'm a Believer, Red Red Wine, Girl You'll be a Woman Soon and many others. His band was composed, among others, by Elvis' former drummer and the famous Waters Sisters, who sang backing vocals on numerous hit albums, including Thriller.

It's not a beachy kind of sound, it is him saying that he and his wife can be broke and it doesn't matter. He doesn't have to wear a suit, he can go around in jeans.
He did this 4 times in a concert I went to. Fabulous!!! 50 great touring years.

Whenever he sings "America" with those words, I just imagine ALL of my great grandparents on their long boat rides pulling into New York harbor and laying their eyes on the USA for the first time. I don't know for sure, but I imagine all of them (men AND women) breaking down in tears! America REALLY meant something to EVERYONE back then! New beginnings and new opportunities! 👍😁❤️🇺🇸

I am loving you guys discovering the music from my youth! Neil Diamond is a legend! You have to listen to all his greatest hits. Just FYI, you need to listen to him when he was young. Listen to the originals of these songs. You can’t get a true feel for his talent if you are listening to his aged voice. Kudos to him for such a long career, but his voice was well past it’s prime here.

Neil is the GOAT. I have seen him so many times in concert. He was quite the showman. He has written for so many other artists. I started enjoying his music in the 1960's. He has a giant rabbit hole of music. He sold out every venue he performed at, the man was wildly popular.

You could spend an entire career wandering from song to song in Neil Diamond's catalogue. Plus you can see him in the movie "The Jazz Singer" which also has a fantastic soundtrack. Perhaps some of his most amazing work was his "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" album which might deserve a full-play album reaction... you cannot go wrong with Neil Diamond! Great choice, great reaction!

I adore your precious wife! She has the sweetest personality! Its wonderful to see the two of you together. Your relationship seems rock solid and the best of an ebb and flow that people should work for . You always mention your love for your baby girls and wife as well as your humble and appreciation for the life you are living. I Love to listen to your stories of you growing up , the honor you give our soldiers and vets ( my husband was in the Air Force for just under 22 years and retired so anything with soldiers and their families touch my soul. I lived with his deployments and raising two beautiful little girls.) watching Ally slowly opening up to Country music and Taylor Swift, and its really cool how you read the lyrics as the song goes so you don't miss anything as well as look up interesting info and facts that pertain to the songs. Bottom line is I'm A big fan of you, Ally, and what you do on this channel. Keep going for those of us who get a needed laugh or positive experience when we are searching for it . God Bless!

My absolute favorite song by him is "I am, I said". It's beautiful. My parents listened to him often while I was growing up. His voice and personality are so compelling. My Dad once said that he would like Neil Diamond playing at his funeral one day. He died in 2022, and had decided on not having any services. I am in Michigan and he was living in South Carolina when he passed. I remember just sitting in my car that day, playing Neil Diamond and crying, kinda having my own private service for him. His favorite song was "Forever in Blue Jeans"

"I Am, I said", "Cherry, Cherry", "Sweet Caroline", "Kentucky Woman", "Red Red Wine", "Solitary Man", "Holly Holy", "Cracklin' Rosie", "Song Sung Blue", "Longfellow Serenade", "Desirée", "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" etc. He has sold more than 130 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. I was privileged to see him in concert twice. He was a great showman & his live performances were memorable. Sadly he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2018.

Well, long story short, my son became an instant fan, got the bug and became a musician himself. Never reached the same heights, but he loved it! I've been a fan ever since Neil's first hit! I hope this doesn’t spark a heated debate but I think you should start with the studio version. After that, watch “Soolaimon/Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show” from the iconic live double album “Hot August Night”. Ironically, the live medley omits the intro to Brother Love’s, which starts off with, “Hot August night and the leaves hanging down. . .” You need to hear the intro, which is why I recommend the studio version first.

Has any body noticed the drummer playing with Neil Diamond in the video? He's the Dallas born drummer Ronnie Tutt, he's the drummer who played with Elvis Presley from 1969 until Elvis's last concert right before his death in 1977. He also later played with Neil Diamond from 1981 - 2017. He had quite a career. Ronnie unfortunately died from a heart attack in 2021. He is one of my all time favorite drummers and human beings!

Like others have said, this recording is in older years. He still had great energy on stage but his voice was more strained.
He was a sultry heartthrob back in the day - 70’s for instance. There are recordings on UA-cam from that era.
However, one of my favorite recorded concerts you can buy on DVD. It’s 2008 in Madison Square Garden. It’s called Hot August Night, which is a callback to a famous 70s concert in LA. Neil is from Brooklyn so that packed out concert was like a homecoming. I think you can find some clips from that concert on UA-cam too.
I Am I Said is a must to react to. It’s a song anyone can relate too, especially when they are young and trying to find their place in the world.

This is the first concert I took my now wife then girlfriend too (1990). We've been married for 31 years now. At the time she was 20 and I was 25. I wasn't sure how long Neil was going to be performing and I knew I wanted to see him. I paid big dollars for tickets from a ticket place in Boston that I knew when I went to college there. We were probably the youngest people in the audience and we had really close seats. He performed what's called in the round picture of stage in the center of the arena that moved turned throughout the whole concert so everybody got to see him. It was in November and he took a time. Probably about 25 minutes to do Christmas and Hanukkah songs in the middle of the concert and then finished out the concert. It was just fantastic

This man is amazing. Over 50 years of hit after hit…he has written 95% of the music he performs! Three hour concerts,no opening acts,no intermissions. No one sits…everyone knows every word and sings along! React to Red,Red Wine,Love on the Rocks,Beautiful Noise,Cracklin Rosie,…soooo many more!

Neil Diamond is a legend! So many beautiful songs. I am more of a metal/rock lover but for him i will make an exception. He also made a movie, The Jazz Singer. Thanks for your reaction.

One of my very favorite artists. Have seen him in concert multiple times and he is one of the best songwriters and entertainers out there. However, for someone who doesn’t know him and his music, I would have chosen either the original recordings or a performance closer in time to when the songs came out. I saw him in the last 5 years and he was good just like this video, but it still isn’t his peak performance so you didn’t really get to experience him in his full glory with this performance. That being said because he was still so great at this age it can give you and idea of how much more dynamic and special his earlier performances were.

I saw Diamond in concert. It was the only concert I have been to where no one got up and left. Everyone was glued to their seats. Neil and Tina Turner were two best concerts I have seen.

My late mother was a Neil Diamond fan all of her too short life. We did our Saturday chores to his music on a stereo that occupied most of our front room. She would dance around and sing, much to our amusement.

He wrote songs that others turned into massive hits including I'm A Believer, The Grass Won't Pay No Mine, He Ain't Heavy (He's my brother). Beyond this, he was a consummate lyricists and song writer having major hits in the 60s-80s, Along with Bee Gees, John Denver and a few others who have a massive song catalogue during the modern pop music era. Mr. Diamond is an American classic.

I knew a guy who had a college roommate who had emigrated with his parents from Russia. The guy said that every night when they lowered the American flag in their courtyard, the roommate put Diamond's "America" on and stood at the window, facing the flag, with his hand over his heart. Needless to say, he was completely sincere about this ritual and very thankful his family got to move.

Neil is one of the Greatest songwriter/singers of a generation who has been covered by so many over the decades that it still amazes me when people don't know who he is. I am... I said, Brooklyn Roads, and Soolamon are my three favorites of his. But I have over 50 of his songs in my primary Playlist.

I grew up with Neil Diamond. Forever in Blue Jeans was my brothers wedding song. Now, America. I'm full Cree, but I was adopted into a rich white people's family dynamic.. it was hell. They hated me. However, the song America, i LOVED this song.. I too felt the wonder and adrenaline of this conquerer settler mind set.. I felt that way because I didn't know who I was, my history, my parents, my people. So I felt everything white people felt, as my own, I can understand. Imagine how I felt, as an adult, listening to the song, and knowing who I was, and the CRIME of what the song represents? Gives me chills.. to have come so far, in my pathway. So the song means a LOT to me.. but not for the same reasons as anyone else. Good reactions, guys. xo

Yep. The colonizer mentality. You survived not being assimilated. I still love the song because of the sincerity that went into it....I am a child of immigrants who were poor, and had nothing and came across the atlantic and hoped for a better life. There are never enough apologies I could ever give for the genocide of a race of people. But you are of the Star People. I'm sure you know your lineage now. You and others have not been erased. And there is much for us all to do. The best to you, keetahbrough.

Neil Diamond is one of those performers that tried to stay true to his original soundtracks. It was what made him famous and what his fans wanted. Even in his later years he offered great concerts. Sadly, he no longer tours due to Parkinson's.
You might also want to check out Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). They did a concert at Wembley Stadium in 2017. They sound just like they did in the seventies. The videos of their concert is very similar to this one. The audience is having so much fun and is made up of all ages.
It is no secret that the music of the seventies and eighties is probably some of the greatest music out there. Musicians had to wear many hats, they had to play instruments, be able to sing and most of them wrote their own material. Concert tours were rough but they delivered amazing concerts for their fans. They was no lip syncing, no autotune, no special effects. Just good old talent. How times have changed.

But nonetheless it's the hopeful side of our history. You Sebs are part of it. But so am I. I'm a Believer was sung the the Monkees in the 60's. Neil Diamond has a huge body of work. "America" from his Broadway role in the movie The Jazz Singer (1980) is a must! Should always start with the start of a career. He was an extremely popular male singer during the 60's &70's and 80's - especially among the ladies. A tremendously talented singer/songwriter and entertainer! worldwide sales over 130 mil units, including: 10 #1 singles on both Billboard & Contemporary Charts; 38 songs have reached the Top 10. He was inducted into The Songwriters H of F in 1984 and Rock H of F in 2011, along with being an honoree at The Kennedy Center Honors in 2011, and in 2018 received the Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award. Has written a ton of songs, beginning his affection for songwriting through writing poetry in high school. Many of his songs were hits for others, as they would release their cover of the song before Diamond would release his own, examples: "I'm a Believer" and "Its a little bit me, and a little bit you" - both were made hits by The Monkees. Some early hits: Cherry Cherry, Solitary Man, Brother Love's Travelling salvation show, Sweet Caroline, Kentucky Woman, Cracklin Rosie, Song sung blue, I am I said - many others, but those are a few of his hit singles. Can't go wrong listening to the Neil Diamond Library of Songs.

I love Neil Diamond!! I went to 2 of his concerts!! I have watched his movie he did probably 25 times, The Jazz Singer, with Luci Arnez, and Sir Laurence Olivier!! Awesome movie mainly because he's cute in it and the music!! My Mom lived with Parkinson's until her death at age 90...Parkinson's isn't fatal, but it sure make your elder years miserable! Cracklin Rosie, Song Sung Blue - his music is amazing!! Jonathan Livingston Seagull!!! He had his own style for sure and it was just singable great music!
He's a bit older in this video . . you really should see what else you can find -- he is so worth it!! HE WAS AWESOME!
i HAVE TO LAUGH - COMING TO AMERICA BACK THEN WAS SO COOL -- BUT TODAY - HOLY COW! YA, THEY COMIN' TO AMERICA ILLEGALLY!!!
