I Hate Clench as a Character. And unfortunately he will appear 90% of the time Tari Appears. I hope SMG4 will improve its characters and the personalities of it’s characters, but I kind of not expect it to. My Reason as why Clench Exists is Mr Puzzles Made/brought Clench to Life to try to Make Tari Evil, Which Backfired Immensely. I hope we get an Arc that Could make Clench Disappear or I dunno. Its possible
Tari is a Better Character than SMG4. It’s Cringe that SMG4 has been treating his friends really poorly in le show… Me wondering when SMG4 will make an episode where SMG4, Mario, and Meggy aren’t present, but this probably will never happen, especially in the era we are in right now, because these 3 are the most used characters in the show, especially mario and smg4. Almost stretched it to SMG3 as well, but he only started appearing in every episode since WOTFI 2023, and REALLY since SMG3’s coffee and Bombs. And these 3 have basically appeared in every episode since debut. MAYBE EACH CHARACTER COULD GET THEIR OWN HOUSE IN THE SHOWGROUNDS, BUT THATS A EXTREME STRETCH…
Me wishing every Main SMG4 character got treated equally. POV: Me hating on Mario, Luigi, and Tari Abuse because they didn’t deserve it ):< The SMG4 show kinda went downhill since he started making characters have less personality. Me wondering when SMG4 will actually use main characters like Tari, Melony, or Saiko. Feels as if SMG4 replaced SMG3 as The 2nd main character and luigi as the 3rd main character. Quite sad. SMG4 has been creeping away from Nintendo and making the show his own, as the reason why he doesn’t put toad, bowser, etc in his videos much anymore, also probably because some of them dont even know that Peach’s castle is gone, like bowser for example, he probably doesn’t know these things. I should stop my rant. Off topic here but I bought a Tari Plush from the SMG4 store and it arrived about 26 days ago. I love it.
@@thesonichero2619 As long as it's done with high quality, the Mario 64 machinima also just looks so much more lively than just a bunch of Gmod ragdolls. Like, when you have a shot with multiple characters just standing idle, maybe behind one character that's the main focus of the shot, for example, in the SM64 style they're still animated and look alive because of idle animations (and vibrant colors and the various custom facial expressions) but in the recent style that would just be frozen ragdoll models that don't even move, which has way less life to it and also tends to look less vibrant because it's in a Half Life 2 mod, Half Life 2 being a more gritty realistic looking game that's not supposed to look that vibrant. It's way quicker and easier to make a cheap scene with Gmod ragdolls than with SM64 machinima characters, sure, but it takes a lot more work to make entirely Gmod scenes of characters achieve the same base level of liveliness that even a basic SM64 shot has just by default without any enhancing, because the only way to even come close to that is carefully animating every single Gmod ragdoll in a way that actually looks believably lively every second, which is just too costly to do especially with a weekly schedule.
I remember seeing a Reddit post, saying “I miss when it was an actual Mario parody,not a bunch of ocs” also I miss old characters like toad,peach and bowser. Smg4 has a lot of missed potential.
It doesn't particularly help that 95 or so percent is more blind hate than constructive criticism, It's rare to see real constructive criticism in general now that I think of it
Its all just practice for Murder Drones and Digital Circus. The 10 year anniversary arc was about an eldrich computer program that threatened the universe ala Absolute Solver from Murder Drones. And the Puzzle vision arc was about a wacky ai that trapped the main cast in his bizarre adventures ala Digital circus. This isn't a show anymore, its a testing ground for Glitch.

If you want to do more "serious stuff" (whatever that means in practice) the glitch channel is here, i don't know why they want to transform the smg4 channel to the same thing. People loved smg4 for the stupid ass goofy content, they don't espect (and they don't want) something like the mcu (no wonder why the mcu now fucking sucks lol).
I agree. The thing with having a series like the MCU is that it's a delicate balance, which isn't permanent. You need to end something while it's great, and then leave people loving it and wanting more.
It feels more corporate and brain rotty then it used to be, puzzle vison was the only good thing so far, Mr puzzles now just feels like a pair of colorful jingly keys
yeah i've begun to label it as a content farm now because 1. constant sound effects 2. over cliched jokes 3. uses whatever newest and popular memes to gain clicks 4. the introduction of leggy just feels like their poor attempt at a new minions 5. bright colors

I am intrigued about the cliffhanger of the latest ep tho
The recent times of Remastered 64 and "trying to do more random episodes" just sorta feels like them trying to figure out what made SMG4 so good in the first place and to try to bring back the classic fans, and so far they haven't quite nailed it for me. I respect and somewhat understand their decision for this, but it is flopping quite a bit. The more recent episodes have really been a drag to get through for me personally, in fact, I started to stop watching SMG4 from a week or two back.
The problem, for me at least, is that they've already irreversibly stripped away almost everything about original SMG4 and its identity over time in recent years throughout the whole "story arc era" since like 2019, where it felt like each arc intentionally ended with removing a new piece of what was SMG4 and fundamentally transforming the show, to the point it's completely unrecognizable now, so them trying to "figure out what made SMG4 so good in the first place and bring back classic fans" is like fighting a losing battle, whatever they're looking for is LONG gone and to TRULY achieve that goal they'd have to walk back so many irreversible things spanning multiple years which they really can't. Remastered 64 and that "Mario 64 poorly explained" video kinda did that goal a bit more successfully but those episodes obviously cheat to do it so that doesn't really count much. And many of these "Classic fans" had already been complaining and critiquing so many things for several years now and yet the series kept doubling down more and more against their concerns year after year, so many of those classic fans are just long gone and have given up now and so desperate attempts to bring them back NOW, especially in ways that don't even actually understand what these fans liked correctly, is too little WAY too late, especially if you still have to stick to your guns on some of the very issues they didn't like that are just part of the modern state of the series' identity. Many of the classic fans actively disliked all the vast changes and new stuff the series did, and others just cannot be bothered to care about the modern stuff unique to this current era, so trying to bring them back while also keeping around these modern changes is just not going to work and it's not gonna make the old classic fans care, and it still feels like lip service, because it's still not what they truly liked and the series can never truly make itself what they liked without abandoning things it cannot abandon now.
Honestly the thing I liked about it was that Mario and other Mario and Nintendo characters were just having fun and doing dumb stuff, but now he is staring to distance from Nintendo related characters, to the point where he changed two characters just to differentiate themselves from the Nintendo characters they actually are. It just goes from being known characters swear and do goofy shit to just some random characters doing less goofy stuff. It takes away the charm of what it was
And also, let's not forget characters like Tari who exist to advertise their show even if Meta Runner has been over for a while, and we aren't fucking forgetting the nothing side characters replaced by ocs and some watermelon baddie I'd breed including some 13 year old's splatoon oc turned into human for merchandise and also a baddie id like to breed and a character from a mid video that pretends is a DDLC video but is just boring af

Smg4 is focusing on the wrong thing. We want good, funny, maybe a bit retarded, writing and story telling. Personally I like the stuff from 2017. In 2024 He focuses on the quality of the animation, character design, and voice acting. Puzzlevission, gave us both with a little lazy humor. Now that that is all over it’s back to lazy writing and over working themselves on the wrong things. We don’t want high quality animations & voice acting as long as it is not desperately low. We want proper stupid smg4 not smg4 addicted to glitch making it a proper professional show like crack. We could also blame UA-cam for the less R64 style humor because of their censorship policies but that is a different story. Or also maybe glitch are worried about a lawsuit with Nintendo that is not just a cheap written arc.
I like the higher quality of newer smg4 episodes but I think they should go back to the old kind of style of 2017 SMG4. Maybe instead they could have a slower release schedule or have a season every year.
Ive personally never had a problem with the up-scale in animation/gmod use for the show. Sm64 usage is nice but its not a make or break for me. As for the way of writing, yeah 2017-2020 was peak smg4. In terms of writing and in comedy.
@@RG31_Official Yeah, gosh, I really don't care for the weekly episodes, I already watch new episodes so infrequently that if it means having episodes I actually like again, I'd gladly take them having multiple week gaps in between than the current stuff every week.
I fill like this has been an issue since they started doing arcs. After the big story arc(s) of the year, they enter this strange slump that just seems to drag on, until they get ready for the next arc.

True, SMG4 is starting to decline for me too. I always watch his older videos a lot. But when he releases a new episode anytime now, I rarely watch it, or I just stop in the middle of the episode and I never watch it again.
SMG4 has lost it's charm the second they did the Lawsuit arc. SMG4 had really solid roots in the past, and then it got to the point where they got rid of their classic Ssemondars, and then the beginning of the voice acting, and then some of their Rap Battles which were solid enough. But what ended up costing them was afte rthe hype that was the SMG0 and Axel arc.... they ruined it with the Lawsuit arc. Honestly the second he made that change, that's when I actually stopped watching his channel. (if it were me, I'd rewatch his older videos. Heck, even when he tried to remake them, they felt inferior to the original.)
I feel like my engagement was at an all time high from It’s Gotta Be Perfect and Western Spaghetti all the way to the fourth episode of Puzzlevision. I found the Puzzlevision movie to be very underwhelming given the two years of build up, but things kept feeling like they were on a decline in all the following episodes
Maybe when the next arc comes out it can restore your faith in smg4 but we don't know for sure but I hope Luke and Kevin can understand the criticisms. And I will say this despite the problems with modern SMG4 it is at least tolerable to watch because they have a better release schedule for every video on Saturday instead of 3 videos a week and at least they have new ideas even if they are not executed well so I have hope that they can get better we just have to wake to see.

I think the worst thing about modern SMG4 is that they've literally ruined almost every character now, and the few that haven't been ruined, such as Chris and Swag, almost never appear.
I started at Baldi's Basics and got tired at the end of the UA-cam Arc. I returned a few months ago and started where I left off and the show really does change as the episodes go on.
I gave up on SMG4 when he changed his iconic Blue Mario look to... This.. Thing. Even more-so when he did that whole "perfect video" thing, that was stupid from beginning to end
Quality wise, I think his videos (this year) were mostly at their best from after the "Trash friends" episode until after the puzzlevision movie, the good episodes for me to note are "The day my arm went psyco", "No TV make mario no okie dokie", "mario's mystery's", "Scooby Mario, where'd you go" and despite the movie not being as good as it could have been it has good moments, but I think it would have been better if they had maybe moved on from mr puzzles or gave more focus on tari's character episodes which I've got to be honest character wise has been one of the best aspects of 2023.
smg4 feels so empty without the SMG4 Colon at the start now. Bruh. Watching the older arcs (Especially the Genesis and Revelation arcs) made me have a feeling that's as reactive as I was while watching Sonic.exe: Spirits of Hell (R1 and R2). But it makes the old videos from 2017 - 2023 feel outdated. SMG4 gave me an AMAZING feeling, and a SH*TTY feeling.
Tbh I wouldn't mind if SMG4 rebranded the show and replace Mario and Luigi with Marco and Louis by this point, I don't care if he starts a original series and keeps the absurdity of the show as it is now, I just think Mario related stuff feels so out of place in this scenario now
Was watching SMG4 for years, heck I was the first person ever to send any form of translation to SMG4 (Da Glitch or The Swap with Polish subs). But after the whole Mr. Puzzles schtick I just stopped caring. Only checking Remastered64 and then forgetting about it right after. I still remember liking Mario Does Stuff wednesday miniseries, when Luke himself was just doing the vids at the beginning (I think). But when the team was doing these, it just lost the charm of old SMG4. I feel the series was starting getting annoying for me when for most of the episodes were doing anime memes or references. I still remember being annoyed by the overuse of Jojo memes around 2020s (heck, I hated the demonic side of Shroomy just because of that face). Or how Boopkins ended as the weaboo that just talks about anime. And don't get even me started on Melony. What's the point of her existence in this show? Okay, maybe I went ahead of myself. The point being, when the series went on, it didn't try to be funny on its own, but trying to appeal the modern audience with newest memes or just being quirky. It now feels like a sitcom, especially when the series focuses mainly on SMG4/3 and sometimes Meggy. Sometimes is better to just let it go and not think about it. No, wait. Better to think about memories that SMG4 brought in the past. There was a reason for me to watch this channel for ten years straight. And for that, I'm very thankful.
I know how you feel. It feels like all the likability of the characters has been sucked out of right out of them after PuzzleVision. And on a personal note, I hate how they’ve reduced Meggy’s character into an angry short person joke.

2016 - 2020 is my favorite era of SMG4, it has the characters and humor of Classic SMG4 and the storylines of Modern SMG4. Basically the best of both worlds. Recently, SMG4 feels like it has a lack of identity and has no clear focus. It’s trying to capture and replicate the past with Remastered 64 and the poorly explained videos but fails miserably. It can’t decide if it wants to continue with more serious and story driven videos or just videos of randomness. I also feel like SMG4 is suffering from character decline. The main characters have gone downhill except for Mario, Luigi and Bob. The new characters like Melony, Karen, Jevis, Shroomy (although I kinda like Shroomy) or whatever have really boring and uninteresting personalities. I am okay with the OC’s but the main problem is there is too many of them. I really wish they would just bring back old characters like Bowser, Toad, Steve, Yoshi, FM and X.
To me SMG4 started to be less interesting as soon as Melony and Axol were introduced. Both characters are kinda pointless besides The WOTFI 2021, to me they just basic and lame characters that had no place in the story. The last nail in the coffin was during the Meggy spin-off, as soon that started it was downhill for the SMG4.
Smg4 was good in 2016-2018 but then kinda sunk, and the thing that made me really dislike it were the new character designs, and its just not really funny anymore. I mostly stopped watching in 2020.
to me, the biggest problem with SMG4 is that it isn't treated like its own show anymore. it's just a piggy bank for Glitch Productions. a show that exists solely to make extra money for Glitch Productions
Yea honestly I agree, like after puzzle vision I just stopped watching smg4 videos or ever, like I was only invested in the stories aka arcs and lore then whatever is happening now in smg4, like they are directionless and mediocre, like sure the characters are still the same but like only the main main characters are even around and the main characters (like bob, popkins, psycho, and many others) are just being left in the dust or left in the background, honestly smg4 decline so badly, like they are slowly turning into a corporation and using the main channel as a massive piggy bank for their new main channel, glitch productions.
I basically stopped watching when they redesigned the characters and made smg4 look less like Mario. It looked too weird and far from a human. I tried watching a new one and it was wayyyy too confusing for me.

I started to fall off at the 10 year anniversary via my sheer disinterest with the zero arc. Every arc I saw before then was at least a little out there in concept due to its tie to a real life thing or more down to earth stakes. I did get a bit bored after the youtube remote arc because of the lackluster implementation of the anti-cast, and adding lore with completely original characters while not having it really tied to anything with world ending stakes and worst in my book: making SMG4 the center of the universe in my eyes broke something in me with this series.
honestly smg4 started to decline when he started adding ocs and lore to his content. at first it was like “oh new content that’s neat” now it turned into a mini animation industry which, i’m not against this is something that smg4 wanted to strive for. the problem is the entire thing, he started with mario 64 bloopers and went on to become better; this might be my nostalgia talking but i preferred the days of seeing a new holiday special of mario destroying the mushroom kingdom for spaghetti, the nonsensical humor and adventures. it was a change for the better yeah, but not really if that makes sense
Characters don't develop and when they do they go back to being underdevelop for plot To me Mario is the only thing that holds the show to its golden days because he is by far the only character that stayed the same

yes, a major reason but also the glitch channel, first attempts with taris character and their more complex story arcs already started like 6 years ago and that's when the quality kinda dipped already I like kevin, but he just never got quite the jist of it now it's all just a nosedive into corporate mediocrity and merch sales
@@superduper1262 Honestly, even after Kevin got involved, I think we still got some really good videos for a few years. It was mainly the overuse of certain sound effects, too many modern characters stealing the spotlight, arcs replacing the old side series, etc. is what kinda killed it for me. The only recent stuff on the channel I've seen is the Remastered64 vids.
It's been a bit since I've watched SMG4 (about 2-4 years I think), and I started watching around the time he was doing bloopers (Boil the Bully was my favorite one).

I think the decline of smg4 began with the animé arc, cause i didnt really mind meggy as a character until they made her into a human, and smg4 isnt very good at managing its tonal sense. Its always put laughs first, so trying to mix something serious in with it just fails dramatically. Honestly, i dont really watch many episodes past WOTFI 2020, because its changed and deformed so much from something i used to love

I kinda think smg4 could take more time on their episodes and that maybe the crew is going through a burnout and I also wish they would bring back some Trauma responses or scars? I’m not sure, I just wished that the arcs had more of an impact then they do in a way

SMG4 is what made me who I am today but I do feel theres something about the new episodes that feels cheap or rushed. It feels like they're trying ride off the success of the puzzlevision episodes with the show/movie themed episodes. Its starting to get old...

You can honestly just take the me role at this point, with all the rant videos and that. I probably won’t be making any of those videos anymore (except for one more planned video). I feel like the whole, reason some of us as a whole find the new content of SMG4 to be mediocre, may just because the content might not be for our target audience (age and generation).
Starting to realize I actually got to start branching out when it comes to talking about SMG4, Like talking about arcs or specific episodes or even characters or even the old era episodes and even more absurd video ideas
To me it seems like they're trying to make more episodes centered around smg4 and smg3, but then they also feel like they cant put in self inserts without also making self depricating humor. This completely differs from how smg4 used to be the straight man, so that now he's just a watered down version of mario. But they already have mario for that so what's the point This also leads into another problem i have with smg4, the fact that smart characters are almost always female. This wasn't a problem when they first started doing it because they just had more original female characters, but with the removal of mario based characters and the change from straight men to comic relief of the self inserts the balance is completely out of wack
I think that the decline of smg4 started years ago when series like R64 closed and the videos begun REALLY boring. It Is like the videos are not such like they were before and this Is bad. Even video of like 10/12 years ago are Better than the actual ones
The series became the same for me literally literally seven years ago, which is honestly crazy to think about obviously, there’s still a lot of effort put into it but it’s still feels kind of boring
For me it declined as soon as smg4 redesigned their characters and moved away from Mario as a whole. It’s mid, lost their tone of humor, and Mario isn’t even the main character anymore
I'm not even an OG fan, I started watching the series about 2 years ago, and I only really liked the older videos and didn't like the newer ones. This grew as the series went on. I think Luke and Kevin wanted to add something new and different to the series instead of the formula they'd been using for years, which was a good idea, but they did it in the worst way possible. It's like they're now slowly edging away from what made it "Mario" related and are trying to turn it into it's own thing. This isn't a bad thing in concept, but the arcs are getting more distant, them getting rid of Peach's Castle was a clear giveaway that they were done, heck, the redesigns for many of the Nintendo characters are slowly looking more and more like cheap knockoffs instead of original designs. (Just look at Boopkins, Bob, Meggy, and SMG4 himself.) I would expect these to show up in some ripoff game like "Special Martin Siblings" or something, not this. Change is normal, and there are certainly still some funny and creative aspects to the new series, but it is absolutely not what I would have done.

Also, they make it to the point of how the hell Did they make it off-brand anime and do arcs like an anime? I don't understand because I seem to be forced to watch an arc and understand where the videos are at the moment in the "timeline." But again, it's just, yeah, it just doesn't have a soul anymore, and it's all slop, the same with those remasters as well because it just feels like what made the original much better in comparison to the remasters because it doesn't capture that same feeling when I first watched it. Also, again, they have a production studio now and have already done some series based on both characters from the channel, but what do I know?

In my opinion, I preferred before puzzlevision where they didn't change their schedule to one vid every saturday... The low-quality had it's own charm in my opinion.. And it isn't worth it waiting every week just for a filler vid or such
Smg4 is trying out new ideas and although hes using mr puzzle a lot. I think we all miss the old characters, sakio, melony, and so many others. Theres so many mysteries, for example the showgrounds connection with mr puzzle, the upstairs room, the unknown room, and well peach. I genuinely would love an arc about peach, as well as the other princess. Like Daisy.
I stopped watching consistently after maybe early 2020. After the whole anime arc. For me, it hasn't just started falling off, it's been on a downward trajectory for years.
Well, SMG4 has been starting to decline for me for 5 years at this point. Look, I know there’s something called UA-camrs changing, but SMG4 has changed so much from its first let’s say… 6 years that I just can’t give a crap about the damn channel anymore.
I feel like one of the issues is the characters. Don't get me wrong, I like these characters it's just that a lot of them have been sidelined, and also, when is smg4 gonna make a new likeable character

It fell off after the rapper bob arc, the arcs werent heavily involved in each episode but when i stopped watching around the time the castle fell it was just "plot, plot, actually a comedic vid- plot, plot, plot"
There are two reasons why he is declining. 1. Adpocalypse 2 which was a long time ago, but it really did make the shift from R64 to modern SMG4. Or 2. Appealing to sponsors, which is very similar to reason 1. SMG4 is becoming Sega. The only thing that could potentially return the quality is to return the old humor. Or what you kind of implied, reduce the number of people involved with the channel. Maybe I’m a fool because I can’t see what would fix the channel, but it could be the fact that machinimas just don’t work anymore. I’m writing this half asleep at 3am.
One thing I hate about the recent episodes is how they gave Bob, Boopkins, and Shroomy text boxes. To me, the whole point of them _not_ having text boxes like everyone else is because they (up until Elsie Lovelock took over as the voice of Meggy back in 2022) were the only main characters that were fully voiced. The only times they _did_ get text boxes was during the WOTFI rap battles. Giving them text boxes just ruins the whole point entirely! In fact, Meggy's been fully-voiced ever since Elsie Lovelock started voicing her, and she's practically being played favorite by SMG4 at this point, so why should *she* have text boxes at this point?! I know I sound like I'm overreacting, but this is just a dumb addition that didn't even need to be added at all. Another thing: can we stop getting so much SMG4 and SMG3-focused episodes, please?! I swear, ever since late last year they're just overshadowing Mario as the main character now. I get that SMG4 is just trying to rebrand the channel, but it's just coming at the cost of turning its original main character into a side character who's only the main (anti-)hero when the plot calls for it. Also, another nitpick, I want the "SMG4:" part of the episode titles back.
Yeah, the different ways various characters conversed helped add to the variety back in the more classic days, where some were voiced, some talked in text, and some like Steve just talked in memey voice clips and basically miming. It seems they've wanted to homogenize everyone where everyone speaks both in full voiced dialog and in text boxes except those who literally can't talk in full voice, which not only takes away some of the uniqueness and quirkiness of the series' style, but also undermines some of the very reasons these stylistic things existed in the first place. Like the text boxes, their whole presence in the series is not because they're a mere accommodation for deaf people or whatever, but rather they exist as a part and relic of the whole classic Mario 64 Machinima/Blooper style that's existed almost as long as UA-cam itself. Their purpose then was to easily add dialog at all over game footage to make the machinima understandable narratively, and it's been an iconic style of the genre ever since, it's just the way the style presents dialog. It's a core style element, not mere subtitles for voice acting, that's what traditional closed captions are for and these aren't supposed to be merely that. Audio added on top of that is simply supposed to enhance what's being conveyed, either by adding some emotion that's not in the text, just extra info, or whatever, not simply repeating exactly what's already written in the text and adding nothing else whatsoever and just being plain redundant. And characters that actually speak instead of talk in text do so to be more unique and stand out. Homogenizing all that together so everyone does both just undermines a lot of the purpose of the text, and keeps additional audio from adding anything to what's being conveyed anymore because it just has to copy exactly what the text says, and overall nerfs the classic style and makes it all redundant. Although, I'm fine with Meggy keeping the text boxes anyway because they still use the Splatoon font and so that's at least some acknowledgment and remnant of her being a Splatoon character like she was originally supposed to be. It's redundant functionally, yes, but I like the Splatoon font still being present every time she speaks lol.
smg4 used to be just random wierd sm64 bloopers, now it turned into a whole universe with lore and stuff so its not really fully comparable to the old smg4 because its something different
I have a simpler explanation for this phenomenon. You've all simply grown up. SMG4 has ALWAYS been like this. I only got to see all the SMG4 videos after the Puzzlevision arc, and I binge-watched all the SMG4 story videos... And I don't see much of a difference between the old and new SMG4, except that the new videos are much better quality, and the plots are more logical and consistent than before. The only thing is that the jokes have become much less sharp, but this is already the work of UA-cam politics and Twitter cancellation threats. If we draw parallels with Sonic, as you did, then SMG4 is now more like Sonic Unleashed, big, high-quality, but it is hated simply because old fans no longer feel the same emotions as before, in turn, this is explained by banal growing up.
I haven’t watched smg4 in a while, so when I started watching it again it looks completely different in quality and style. It kinda makes me sad since there’s like a lack of charm

Maybe when they dropped it for a bit because of the Puzzlevision thing, they noticed that something related to its algorithm success did much better in the analytics than when they had "SMG4:" in the title, and so they've just decided to stick with that change afterward?
I also agree that they completely forgot SMG4's character development and it sucks. For any good thing, there's a bad thing. Like they have Mr. Puzzles who's probably their best antagonist ever, but the end of the Puzzlevision movie was a complete disappointment. They bring back the "Mario's ____ Trip" series, but no Toad. The characters are nothing like what they used to be, and not just in terms of designs. Also in terms of personality. And part of what made the SMG4 comedy work back then was the animation. If you look at it from a professional angle, Classic SMG4's animation was just bad. When in Gmod, the characters don't walk, they're dragged up and down while going in a direction, and there's a lot of clipping. But this "bad animation" was part of the comedy. It was a great part of what made SMG4 funny. Now the animation is a lot better, but it doesn't have the charm it used to have. Another problem is the lack of use of Nintendo characters. Even as background characters or one-off jokes, they aren't as present anymore, even they used to make pretty good jokes with them. Like Wario. I really like SMG4 Wario, he's endlessly funny. Or was back when he was still there. And of course there's Toad that I already mentioned. Or Bowser. Also a great member of the cast who's mostly gone. SMG4 probably won't ever be the same, its golden era has long passed. And I can't tell for sure but I feel like Kevin's inclusion is partially responsible for it.
idea: they make 1 smg4 video where it's like the smg4 videos from 2018. the video is: Mario is hungry and is trying to find pasta. I'm pretty sure smg4 can make a masterpiece with that.
I feel proud that I haven't watched him in almost 10 months now almost, the last video I ever watched by them was WOTFI 2023 and that was it for me, I'm never returning to them ever again, although I do visit the wiki every now and then just to see what they've done. I wish them the best, but the videos are not my cup of tea no more.

SMG4 was always dead after the anime arc, it just got worse and worse as it lost its identity and added new characters from their original shows or whatever at this point, I just say move on and go watch GLITCH since SMG4 is nothing after they redesigned everyone, stripping what was left of the past. But hey, there's a hellish future for us now.
I perosnly stop watching after the youtube and axol death arc. I personally didn't like the direction they went with the these new character, style of humor, other stuff. When I saw axol death I not care what so ever. This was surprising to be becuase I genuinely like his character. Making him dissappear for a good minute, then killing him felt like the creator want him gone after remebering he exist. I could rant on but this was the main final straw for me.
Smg4 kinda ditched the “side characters”which kinda sucks considering their charm Like bowser loving chicken nuggets is still something I find pretty nice Shroomy the war criminal was kinda tiring but he was alright Steve just shows up sometimes Swag becomes a smaller scale villain occasionally They became forgettable because their was no focus on them they were just smg3’s minions who didn’t like working under him And also the smg3 crew just don’t exist anymore or became a part of the main cast which in that case… fair but the whole thing about them being ‘the rejects’ made them somewhat special It also made the ending of WOTFI 2020 kind of hollow
And let's not forget how they started using WOTFI as stupid arc finales instead of just, fun and stupid challenges Mario and SMG4 did for a rivalry thing, name doesn't even make sense anymore because SMG4 isn't even Italian anymore and it's not even about 2 Italians either.

Smg 4 has been running a long time, and its inevitable that there is going to be highs and lows and its impossible to please everyone. I know there are a lot older fans that are very biased against the new stuff nad hardly give it a chance. Times change, get used to it and nostalgia isn't always what its cracked up to be.

Almost stretched it to SMG3 as well, but he only started appearing in every episode since WOTFI 2023, and REALLY since SMG3’s coffee and Bombs. And these 3 have basically appeared in every episode since debut.

@@thesonichero2619 As long as it's done with high quality, the Mario 64 machinima also just looks so much more lively than just a bunch of Gmod ragdolls. Like, when you have a shot with multiple characters just standing idle, maybe behind one character that's the main focus of the shot, for example, in the SM64 style they're still animated and look alive because of idle animations (and vibrant colors and the various custom facial expressions) but in the recent style that would just be frozen ragdoll models that don't even move, which has way less life to it and also tends to look less vibrant because it's in a Half Life 2 mod, Half Life 2 being a more gritty realistic looking game that's not supposed to look that vibrant. It's way quicker and easier to make a cheap scene with Gmod ragdolls than with SM64 machinima characters, sure, but it takes a lot more work to make entirely Gmod scenes of characters achieve the same base level of liveliness that even a basic SM64 shot has just by default without any enhancing, because the only way to even come close to that is carefully animating every single Gmod ragdoll in a way that actually looks believably lively every second, which is just too costly to do especially with a weekly schedule.
And goldeneye swag and chris are just ragdolls now

Its all just practice for Murder Drones and Digital Circus. The 10 year anniversary arc was about an eldrich computer program that threatened the universe ala Absolute Solver from Murder Drones. And the Puzzle vision arc was about a wacky ai that trapped the main cast in his bizarre adventures ala Digital circus.

I agree. The thing with having a series like the MCU is that it's a delicate balance, which isn't permanent. You need to end something while it's great, and then leave people loving it and wanting more.

The recent times of Remastered 64 and "trying to do more random episodes" just sorta feels like them trying to figure out what made SMG4 so good in the first place and to try to bring back the classic fans, and so far they haven't quite nailed it for me. I respect and somewhat understand their decision for this, but it is flopping quite a bit.
The more recent episodes have really been a drag to get through for me personally, in fact, I started to stop watching SMG4 from a week or two back.
I can appreciate them for trying, but it's just not there
The problem, for me at least, is that they've already irreversibly stripped away almost everything about original SMG4 and its identity over time in recent years throughout the whole "story arc era" since like 2019, where it felt like each arc intentionally ended with removing a new piece of what was SMG4 and fundamentally transforming the show, to the point it's completely unrecognizable now, so them trying to "figure out what made SMG4 so good in the first place and bring back classic fans" is like fighting a losing battle, whatever they're looking for is LONG gone and to TRULY achieve that goal they'd have to walk back so many irreversible things spanning multiple years which they really can't. Remastered 64 and that "Mario 64 poorly explained" video kinda did that goal a bit more successfully but those episodes obviously cheat to do it so that doesn't really count much.
And many of these "Classic fans" had already been complaining and critiquing so many things for several years now and yet the series kept doubling down more and more against their concerns year after year, so many of those classic fans are just long gone and have given up now and so desperate attempts to bring them back NOW, especially in ways that don't even actually understand what these fans liked correctly, is too little WAY too late, especially if you still have to stick to your guns on some of the very issues they didn't like that are just part of the modern state of the series' identity. Many of the classic fans actively disliked all the vast changes and new stuff the series did, and others just cannot be bothered to care about the modern stuff unique to this current era, so trying to bring them back while also keeping around these modern changes is just not going to work and it's not gonna make the old classic fans care, and it still feels like lip service, because it's still not what they truly liked and the series can never truly make itself what they liked without abandoning things it cannot abandon now.
Honestly the thing I liked about it was that Mario and other Mario and Nintendo characters were just having fun and doing dumb stuff, but now he is staring to distance from Nintendo related characters, to the point where he changed two characters just to differentiate themselves from the Nintendo characters they actually are. It just goes from being known characters swear and do goofy shit to just some random characters doing less goofy stuff. It takes away the charm of what it was

Smg4 is focusing on the wrong thing. We want good, funny, maybe a bit retarded, writing and story telling. Personally I like the stuff from 2017. In 2024 He focuses on the quality of the animation, character design, and voice acting. Puzzlevission, gave us both with a little lazy humor. Now that that is all over it’s back to lazy writing and over working themselves on the wrong things. We don’t want high quality animations & voice acting as long as it is not desperately low. We want proper stupid smg4 not smg4 addicted to glitch making it a proper professional show like crack. We could also blame UA-cam for the less R64 style humor because of their censorship policies but that is a different story. Or also maybe glitch are worried about a lawsuit with Nintendo that is not just a cheap written arc.
I like the higher quality of newer smg4 episodes but I think they should go back to the old kind of style of 2017 SMG4. Maybe instead they could have a slower release schedule or have a season every year.

Ive personally never had a problem with the up-scale in animation/gmod use for the show. Sm64 usage is nice but its not a make or break for me. As for the way of writing, yeah 2017-2020 was peak smg4. In terms of writing and in comedy.

SMG4 has lost it's charm the second they did the Lawsuit arc.
SMG4 had really solid roots in the past, and then it got to the point where they got rid of their classic Ssemondars, and then the beginning of the voice acting, and then some of their Rap Battles which were solid enough. But what ended up costing them was afte rthe hype that was the SMG0 and Axel arc.... they ruined it with the Lawsuit arc. Honestly the second he made that change, that's when I actually stopped watching his channel. (if it were me, I'd rewatch his older videos. Heck, even when he tried to remake them, they felt inferior to the original.)
I feel like my engagement was at an all time high from It’s Gotta Be Perfect and Western Spaghetti all the way to the fourth episode of Puzzlevision. I found the Puzzlevision movie to be very underwhelming given the two years of build up, but things kept feeling like they were on a decline in all the following episodes
Maybe when the next arc comes out it can restore your faith in smg4 but we don't know for sure but I hope Luke and Kevin can understand the criticisms. And I will say this despite the problems with modern SMG4 it is at least tolerable to watch because they have a better release schedule for every video on Saturday instead of 3 videos a week and at least they have new ideas even if they are not executed well so I have hope that they can get better we just have to wake to see.

Quality wise, I think his videos (this year) were mostly at their best from after the "Trash friends" episode until after the puzzlevision movie, the good episodes for me to note are "The day my arm went psyco", "No TV make mario no okie dokie", "mario's mystery's", "Scooby Mario, where'd you go" and despite the movie not being as good as it could have been it has good moments, but I think it would have been better if they had maybe moved on from mr puzzles or gave more focus on tari's character episodes which I've got to be honest character wise has been one of the best aspects of 2023.

Bruh. Watching the older arcs (Especially the Genesis and Revelation arcs) made me have a feeling that's as reactive as I was while watching Sonic.exe: Spirits of Hell (R1 and R2).
But it makes the old videos from 2017 - 2023 feel outdated. SMG4 gave me an AMAZING feeling, and a SH*TTY feeling.
Tbh I wouldn't mind if SMG4 rebranded the show and replace Mario and Luigi with Marco and Louis by this point, I don't care if he starts a original series and keeps the absurdity of the show as it is now, I just think Mario related stuff feels so out of place in this scenario now

Was watching SMG4 for years, heck I was the first person ever to send any form of translation to SMG4 (Da Glitch or The Swap with Polish subs). But after the whole Mr. Puzzles schtick I just stopped caring. Only checking Remastered64 and then forgetting about it right after.
I still remember liking Mario Does Stuff wednesday miniseries, when Luke himself was just doing the vids at the beginning (I think). But when the team was doing these, it just lost the charm of old SMG4.
I feel the series was starting getting annoying for me when for most of the episodes were doing anime memes or references. I still remember being annoyed by the overuse of Jojo memes around 2020s (heck, I hated the demonic side of Shroomy just because of that face). Or how Boopkins ended as the weaboo that just talks about anime.
And don't get even me started on Melony. What's the point of her existence in this show?
Okay, maybe I went ahead of myself. The point being, when the series went on, it didn't try to be funny on its own, but trying to appeal the modern audience with newest memes or just being quirky. It now feels like a sitcom, especially when the series focuses mainly on SMG4/3 and sometimes Meggy.
Sometimes is better to just let it go and not think about it. No, wait. Better to think about memories that SMG4 brought in the past. There was a reason for me to watch this channel for ten years straight. And for that, I'm very thankful.
I know how you feel. It feels like all the likability of the characters has been sucked out of right out of them after PuzzleVision.
And on a personal note, I hate how they’ve reduced Meggy’s character into an angry short person joke.

2016 - 2020 is my favorite era of SMG4, it has the characters and humor of Classic SMG4 and the storylines of Modern SMG4. Basically the best of both worlds. Recently, SMG4 feels like it has a lack of identity and has no clear focus. It’s trying to capture and replicate the past with Remastered 64 and the poorly explained videos but fails miserably. It can’t decide if it wants to continue with more serious and story driven videos or just videos of randomness. I also feel like SMG4 is suffering from character decline. The main characters have gone downhill except for Mario, Luigi and Bob. The new characters like Melony, Karen, Jevis, Shroomy (although I kinda like Shroomy) or whatever have really boring and uninteresting personalities. I am okay with the OC’s but the main problem is there is too many of them. I really wish they would just bring back old characters like Bowser, Toad, Steve, Yoshi, FM and X.
I think i miss the random shit mario used to do with a bunch of random explosions and stuff. I think that's why i miss old SMG4

To me SMG4 started to be less interesting as soon as Melony and Axol were introduced. Both characters are kinda pointless besides The WOTFI 2021, to me they just basic and lame characters that had no place in the story. The last nail in the coffin was during the Meggy spin-off, as soon that started it was downhill for the SMG4.
Smg4 was good in 2016-2018 but then kinda sunk, and the thing that made me really dislike it were the new character designs, and its just not really funny anymore. I mostly stopped watching in 2020.
to me, the biggest problem with SMG4 is that it isn't treated like its own show anymore. it's just a piggy bank for Glitch Productions. a show that exists solely to make extra money for Glitch Productions

Yea honestly I agree, like after puzzle vision I just stopped watching smg4 videos or ever, like I was only invested in the stories aka arcs and lore then whatever is happening now in smg4, like they are directionless and mediocre, like sure the characters are still the same but like only the main main characters are even around and the main characters (like bob, popkins, psycho, and many others) are just being left in the dust or left in the background, honestly smg4 decline so badly, like they are slowly turning into a corporation and using the main channel as a massive piggy bank for their new main channel, glitch productions.

I started to fall off at the 10 year anniversary via my sheer disinterest with the zero arc. Every arc I saw before then was at least a little out there in concept due to its tie to a real life thing or more down to earth stakes. I did get a bit bored after the youtube remote arc because of the lackluster implementation of the anti-cast, and adding lore with completely original characters while not having it really tied to anything with world ending stakes and worst in my book: making SMG4 the center of the universe in my eyes broke something in me with this series.
honestly smg4 started to decline when he started adding ocs and lore to his content. at first it was like “oh new content that’s neat” now it turned into a mini animation industry which, i’m not against this is something that smg4 wanted to strive for. the problem is the entire thing, he started with mario 64 bloopers and went on to become better; this might be my nostalgia talking but i preferred the days of seeing a new holiday special of mario destroying the mushroom kingdom for spaghetti, the nonsensical humor and adventures. it was a change for the better yeah, but not really if that makes sense

It was mainly the overuse of certain sound effects, too many modern characters stealing the spotlight, arcs replacing the old side series, etc. is what kinda killed it for me. The only recent stuff on the channel I've seen is the Remastered64 vids.
It's been a bit since I've watched SMG4 (about 2-4 years I think), and I started watching around the time he was doing bloopers (Boil the Bully was my favorite one).

I think the decline of smg4 began with the animé arc, cause i didnt really mind meggy as a character until they made her into a human, and smg4 isnt very good at managing its tonal sense. Its always put laughs first, so trying to mix something serious in with it just fails dramatically. Honestly, i dont really watch many episodes past WOTFI 2020, because its changed and deformed so much from something i used to love

To me it seems like they're trying to make more episodes centered around smg4 and smg3, but then they also feel like they cant put in self inserts without also making self depricating humor. This completely differs from how smg4 used to be the straight man, so that now he's just a watered down version of mario. But they already have mario for that so what's the point
This also leads into another problem i have with smg4, the fact that smart characters are almost always female. This wasn't a problem when they first started doing it because they just had more original female characters, but with the removal of mario based characters and the change from straight men to comic relief of the self inserts the balance is completely out of wack
I think that the decline of smg4 started years ago when series like R64 closed and the videos begun REALLY boring. It Is like the videos are not such like they were before and this Is bad. Even video of like 10/12 years ago are Better than the actual ones
The series became the same for me literally literally seven years ago, which is honestly crazy to think about obviously, there’s still a lot of effort put into it but it’s still feels kind of boring
For me it declined as soon as smg4 redesigned their characters and moved away from Mario as a whole. It’s mid, lost their tone of humor, and Mario isn’t even the main character anymore
2020 was the last good year for SMG4 in my opinion.
I'm not even an OG fan, I started watching the series about 2 years ago, and I only really liked the older videos and didn't like the newer ones. This grew as the series went on. I think Luke and Kevin wanted to add something new and different to the series instead of the formula they'd been using for years, which was a good idea, but they did it in the worst way possible. It's like they're now slowly edging away from what made it "Mario" related and are trying to turn it into it's own thing. This isn't a bad thing in concept, but the arcs are getting more distant, them getting rid of Peach's Castle was a clear giveaway that they were done, heck, the redesigns for many of the Nintendo characters are slowly looking more and more like cheap knockoffs instead of original designs. (Just look at Boopkins, Bob, Meggy, and SMG4 himself.) I would expect these to show up in some ripoff game like "Special Martin Siblings" or something, not this. Change is normal, and there are certainly still some funny and creative aspects to the new series, but it is absolutely not what I would have done.

It fell off after the rapper bob arc, the arcs werent heavily involved in each episode but when i stopped watching around the time the castle fell it was just "plot, plot, actually a comedic vid- plot, plot, plot"
There are two reasons why he is declining. 1. Adpocalypse 2 which was a long time ago, but it really did make the shift from R64 to modern SMG4. Or 2. Appealing to sponsors, which is very similar to reason 1.

The only thing that could potentially return the quality is to return the old humor. Or what you kind of implied, reduce the number of people involved with the channel.

One thing I hate about the recent episodes is how they gave Bob, Boopkins, and Shroomy text boxes. To me, the whole point of them _not_ having text boxes like everyone else is because they (up until Elsie Lovelock took over as the voice of Meggy back in 2022) were the only main characters that were fully voiced. The only times they _did_ get text boxes was during the WOTFI rap battles. Giving them text boxes just ruins the whole point entirely! In fact, Meggy's been fully-voiced ever since Elsie Lovelock started voicing her, and she's practically being played favorite by SMG4 at this point, so why should *she* have text boxes at this point?! I know I sound like I'm overreacting, but this is just a dumb addition that didn't even need to be added at all.
Another thing: can we stop getting so much SMG4 and SMG3-focused episodes, please?! I swear, ever since late last year they're just overshadowing Mario as the main character now. I get that SMG4 is just trying to rebrand the channel, but it's just coming at the cost of turning its original main character into a side character who's only the main (anti-)hero when the plot calls for it.
Also, another nitpick, I want the "SMG4:" part of the episode titles back.

Yeah, the different ways various characters conversed helped add to the variety back in the more classic days, where some were voiced, some talked in text, and some like Steve just talked in memey voice clips and basically miming. It seems they've wanted to homogenize everyone where everyone speaks both in full voiced dialog and in text boxes except those who literally can't talk in full voice, which not only takes away some of the uniqueness and quirkiness of the series' style, but also undermines some of the very reasons these stylistic things existed in the first place. Like the text boxes, their whole presence in the series is not because they're a mere accommodation for deaf people or whatever, but rather they exist as a part and relic of the whole classic Mario 64 Machinima/Blooper style that's existed almost as long as UA-cam itself. Their purpose then was to easily add dialog at all over game footage to make the machinima understandable narratively, and it's been an iconic style of the genre ever since, it's just the way the style presents dialog. It's a core style element, not mere subtitles for voice acting, that's what traditional closed captions are for and these aren't supposed to be merely that. Audio added on top of that is simply supposed to enhance what's being conveyed, either by adding some emotion that's not in the text, just extra info, or whatever, not simply repeating exactly what's already written in the text and adding nothing else whatsoever and just being plain redundant. And characters that actually speak instead of talk in text do so to be more unique and stand out. Homogenizing all that together so everyone does both just undermines a lot of the purpose of the text, and keeps additional audio from adding anything to what's being conveyed anymore because it just has to copy exactly what the text says, and overall nerfs the classic style and makes it all redundant.
Although, I'm fine with Meggy keeping the text boxes anyway because they still use the Splatoon font and so that's at least some acknowledgment and remnant of her being a Splatoon character like she was originally supposed to be. It's redundant functionally, yes, but I like the Splatoon font still being present every time she speaks lol.
smg4 used to be just random wierd sm64 bloopers, now it turned into a whole universe with lore and stuff so its not really fully comparable to the old smg4 because its something different

I have a simpler explanation for this phenomenon. You've all simply grown up. SMG4 has ALWAYS been like this. I only got to see all the SMG4 videos after the Puzzlevision arc, and I binge-watched all the SMG4 story videos... And I don't see much of a difference between the old and new SMG4, except that the new videos are much better quality, and the plots are more logical and consistent than before.
The only thing is that the jokes have become much less sharp, but this is already the work of UA-cam politics and Twitter cancellation threats.
If we draw parallels with Sonic, as you did, then SMG4 is now more like Sonic Unleashed, big, high-quality, but it is hated simply because old fans no longer feel the same emotions as before, in turn, this is explained by banal growing up.

Like they have Mr. Puzzles who's probably their best antagonist ever, but the end of the Puzzlevision movie was a complete disappointment. They bring back the "Mario's ____ Trip" series, but no Toad.
The characters are nothing like what they used to be, and not just in terms of designs. Also in terms of personality. And part of what made the SMG4 comedy work back then was the animation.
If you look at it from a professional angle, Classic SMG4's animation was just bad. When in Gmod, the characters don't walk, they're dragged up and down while going in a direction, and there's a lot of clipping.
But this "bad animation" was part of the comedy. It was a great part of what made SMG4 funny. Now the animation is a lot better, but it doesn't have the charm it used to have.
Another problem is the lack of use of Nintendo characters. Even as background characters or one-off jokes, they aren't as present anymore, even they used to make pretty good jokes with them. Like Wario. I really like SMG4 Wario, he's endlessly funny. Or was back when he was still there.
And of course there's Toad that I already mentioned. Or Bowser. Also a great member of the cast who's mostly gone. SMG4 probably won't ever be the same, its golden era has long passed. And I can't tell for sure but I feel like Kevin's inclusion is partially responsible for it.

I feel proud that I haven't watched him in almost 10 months now almost, the last video I ever watched by them was WOTFI 2023 and that was it for me, I'm never returning to them ever again, although I do visit the wiki every now and then just to see what they've done. I wish them the best, but the videos are not my cup of tea no more.

SMG4 was always dead after the anime arc, it just got worse and worse as it lost its identity and added new characters from their original shows or whatever at this point, I just say move on and go watch GLITCH since SMG4 is nothing after they redesigned everyone, stripping what was left of the past. But hey, there's a hellish future for us now.

I perosnly stop watching after the youtube and axol death arc. I personally didn't like the direction they went with the these new character, style of humor, other stuff. When I saw axol death I not care what so ever. This was surprising to be becuase I genuinely like his character. Making him dissappear for a good minute, then killing him felt like the creator want him gone after remebering he exist. I could rant on but this was the main final straw for me.

i loved his older content when i was younger, i guess he isnt as funny and the shows dont really appeal to me too much(?), since im already ridiculed for liking splatoon and fnf and i dont want to be associated with the anime/kids cartoon fanbase

My poor brother finally unsubscribed from his channel due to the whole Puzzlevision stuff. It was a crying shame since he was the one who introduced me to his channel a few decades ago...
Honestly,now i just see actual SMG4 videos as only normal videos,not too humour,only a random story,and i don't know how with his decline he still got million of views,i'm not hating on him,i'm a fan,but it's weird to see too much views even with the decline,i think it's because of Puzzlevision...

I found weird when they call skibidi toilet cringe (which i think is a valid statement) but have made an entire video dedicated to it before.
Smg 4 has been running a long time, and its inevitable that there is going to be highs and lows and its impossible to please everyone. I know there are a lot older fans that are very biased against the new stuff nad hardly give it a chance. Times change, get used to it and nostalgia isn't always what its cracked up to be.
Dam I used to watch smg4 all the time 2017-21 but I started to lose interest after the 10th anniversary and now I don’t even watch his videos at all the downfall was crazy
