As a sidenote: While Payday 2 fully re-canonised the No Mercy Heist for Payday, they also *DE*-canonised its Left4Dead connection by chaning the year and city for the heist (Change from 2009 in Fairfield to 2012 in New York), and both Overkill and Valve both stated that the heist was never canon for L4D and more of a "what if" scenario.
As a side note: it seems the military successfully prevented an outbreak of the green flu, preventing l4d from happening
@@somerandomfox8579 Except it was Murkywater (a PMC) that now bombed the building, and the virus was still stolen and used on Bain, having a *completely* different effect.
Plus with being set four years AFTER L4D now, it clearly didn't happen anyways.

The reason No Mercy is now canon in the Payday universe is because Bain wanted a book called The Guide of Cagliostro from a guy who wanted the patient's infected blood as payment. The green flu in Payday doesn't turn people into zombies since Bain himself is infected by it but doesn't turn.
So, in short, they turned No Mercy from a noncanon fun crossover to a pivotal and crucial part in the Payday story
he could also have immunity like the l4d survivors
he is not immune to it, the green flu just does something completely different in payday 2

Nice catch over there. That's the thing though, not everyone looks beyond the surface. For a reason there is a lore in payday.
I like how Ellis is the only Pug in the group lmao fits him so well. Also I like to think these games are connected it feels more real and morbid that way.
For the ties of Payday and L4D, it makes more sense to believe that before 2009, the Payday(:The Heist) gang stole the green flu and *then* caused the events of Left 4 Dead. Later in Payday 2's lore, the main contractor Bain dies from it.
But I do believe that the two universes are still seperated, because Payday 3 takes place in present-day New York, with no zombies or outbreaks
that and im pretty sure valve said payday 2 version was more of a " what if " scenario ..also they do find the cure for the green flu in the payday 2 universe so it doesnt spread that quickly
PD2 also retconned the heist to 2012 New York (from 2009 Fairfield), the PD2 version is a Flashback (the rest of PD2 is set in 2012 to 2018, mostly in DC, but with a few heists in NYC, as well as a few other locations like LA, Alaska, Russia and Mexico)
I think Payday, Zombie Army 4, Dead By Daylight, and the Sacrifice comic seems to point toward a L4D multiverse, as opposed to one decreasingly coherent timeline

L4D and Payday go a lot deeper too, it’s connected to Half Life and TF2 as well because in the stock ticker on the big bank level you can see a lot of BLU and RED owned companies, Mercy Hospital, White Mesa, Mann Co, and Freeman Airboat Tours.

Someone said every valve game os fictional in each game, meaning scout can play l4d, Louis can play CS, a counter-terrorist can play half-life, and so on so forth. I'd like to believe that payday is directly connected due to the bridge rescue mission also mentioning the green flu.

It's actually very simple l4d is known to take place in "films" as seen by the intros' titles and more in the game to missions and even endings. with that said and the references and even voice lines to the other games, what if left4dead is just a series of zombie films in the main universe, and csgo and halflife are games in said universe aswell meaning its a movie referencing a game?
glad to see payday 2 mentioned. wasted so many hrs on that game as a teen. always thought it was wild the connection between pdy and valve games
I like to think that L4D and CS:GO aren't the same universe, they're just similar universes where all of the characters co-exist, maybe the L4D characters are alive and well in the CS:GO universe, never having met each other and not having to fight zombies to survive and simply enjoying their lives. Maybe Gordon, Alyx, and Chell are also just getting to enjoy their lives very differently in the CS:GO universe.
It's cool to think about, and would give a fun explanation to some things being exactly the same from another universe, just somehow also being slightly different.
In the CS:GO universe Chell was adopted by some loving parents and got cake for her birthday.

I remember this from 2014!
Masks is custom wearable mask by players during the special events. Masks were originally added in as part of the Halloween 2014 Update.
During Halloween, the masks are completely cosmetic, and chosen randomly at the start of the round in most modes. In competitive, the masks stay constant between rounds and correspond individually to the players.
Some of the Halloween masks featured are from PAYDAY 2 and Team Fortress 2. In the case of the PAYDAY 2 masks, these are default masks worn by the default characters in the game. In the case of the Team Fortress 2 masks, these are masks worn by the Spy class when the Spy is using Disguise.
The in-game appearance of Sergei and Chase Turner reuse the mask mechanic, as they appear as normal T models but wearing a skull-like battlemask.

Man, I've waited for this video. You have covered both of my favorite games, and yeah, they are indeed connected and I REALLY LIKE THAT. I fricking love Left 4 Dead man! Also, if you will look at official Midnight Riders music clips (the virtual music band from Left 4 Dead, and it's actually fire, you should listen to it), you can find ALOT and I mean ALOT of references to Team Fortress 2, CS:GO and Left 4 Dead itself.

I would buy shield in 1.6 on map "Assault" and I would spawn so many bots, with the command that makes bots use only knife.

Left 4 Dead + CS + Payday 2 is a combination that I love desperately and would never expect a video linking those games, but what really surprised me was the melody of Garota de Ipanema at the ending. As a brazillian, I loved it, keep with your videos, they are amazing.

It is entirely possible it's the same universe though! Because - if the buildings and locations are owned and built by same global company, then they could have used the same projects to build very similar buildings, in different countries and continents! Reason for differences is because of different availability and pricing of the construction materials in the different countries! If you consider that, then suddenly you could also solve the timeline, as the both L4D and CS events might as well be happening simultaneously, but in different countries.
Left For Dead 3 would be awesome. I really hope valve starts developing games again.

12:20 chat, he forgot that viruses dont spread at light speed and affect people instantly, as viruses take time to travel and affect hosts, plus I'm pretty sure the Green Flu wasn't airborne till later in the L4D franchise.
I do believe that CS Source and L4D1+2 take place in the same universe. In the campaign Dead Air, before you get to the airport, in map 2 you can see that you enter and exit through the MAC nuclear power plant. It is the same power plant on de_nuke in CS:S.

Hi, massive Left 4 Dead and PAYDAY fan here, the original No Mercy heist in the first PAYDAY was meant to be non-cannon. If I recall correctly, the idea came about because a lot of people were basically looking at PAYDAY as Left 4 Dead but with cops. This was mainly because PAYDAY - like Left 4 Dead - had common and special enemy types, and they were both linear co-op horde shooters with minimal RNG built into the gameplay.
Later in PAYDAY 2, when the developers finally hired a writer to make sense of and create a new story, they decided to recontextualize The No Mercy heist to fit in with their new narrative. The virus they steal isn't The Green Flu virus, but instead a bioweapon designed by a faction in the game called Murky Water. It's not confirmed that this virus turns its targets into zombies, only that the virus is very deadly. If anything, the existence of PAYDAY 3 proves that the virus didn't lead to a zombie apocalypse.
I say these things so that it's clear why the collaboration even happened in the first place, and why the heist later became cannon. The PAYDAY Gang did not steal The Green Flu virus, and they did not cause a zombie apocalypse. The building of The No Mercy hospital is shared, and so is Bill's design, but they're not cannon to each other. PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead each have their own cannon completely separated from each other, it's just that they share a location and one character only in design.

i like imagining this as like, l4d being almost like an alternate universe of csgo. like it branches off after a certain point in csgo’s story, which from what i remember has grown into its own thing too much to really be compatible with it being a direct prequel to l4d by this point, and maybe csgo is set a few years in the past in this timeline to make up for the anachronisms
i don’t think you can really call the connections “canon” for a lot of reasons but it’s fun to notice them and think about them and try to bridge the gap, esp with the ones that could “plausibly” exist in both like the saint lidia ii-it’s important to have awareness of canonicity, but getting too caught up in the idea of that being the only thing that matters can kinda suck the fun out of thinking about this kinda stuff
(this all goes for payday too but i didn’t have too much to say directly about that lol)
Love the video, cats are a neat little addition, but Turtle Rock didn't do much in the way of actually developing L4D, they mostly just came up with the core concept and gameplay before VALVe came in. But you probably know that already.

I've thought about this connection for a while, and what I ended up settling on was almost similar to what you said. My headcanon was that the Left 4 Dead series were films in the CSGO universe, and not the other way around. Mostly because of the movie poster loading screens in L4D2. That would entertain the shared maps; maybe some of them were used as film sets, and Louis's lines are just in-film pop culture references

The M4 Belleni shotgun (or however you spell it) was also reused from the Automatic Shotgun in L4D.
