My dad got a 2012 XF-S saloon (all black and nice cream leather) and he is very happy with it. The car has run over 223000 km (over 138000 miles) and still going strong - no reliability issues yet. He previously had many BMW 3 and 5 series, but now he preferes the Jaag! I'm always pretty excited when I'm allowed to drive it. It is a really special car.

I have this car in this colour in the 2.2 R Sport sport break in Italian racing red. Everthing you just said was true and backed up all the reasons why I told the Mrs I'm not getting rid of it! 45mpg on the motorway, 27 round town. Looking back for a 2nd look is a daily thing when it's clean, everyone comments on it! It's really got under my skin and I love it! Even looked after me when the tyre blowout on a cold icey Morning! Top video!

Partly because of this video, I bought myself an XF Sportbrake. Its a 64 plate , 3l V6 XF S, Portfolio spec and Black Edition. Pretty much identical to the car you have here but in black. The only concession to the black are the chrome Jaguar side details and the rear logo. Its an absolute beast, so thanks for the video.

Great review! As a past owner of the 3.0D saloon, I can agree the costs to maintain are not any higher than anything comparable and they are very reliable and a great drive. Only additional expense you didn't mention that potential purchasers should be aware of is the tendency for the rear discs and pads to need changing around every 25k miles, or sooner if you live in Milton Keynes with all the roundabouts! Go to a specialist rather than a main dealer and save a bundle, still using good quality manufacturer equivalent parts.

Re: lack of seat travel. When it reaches it's forward limit, try holding the adjuster knob forward for more than 2 seconds. If it continues it's travel there may be a sensor fault. If it moves for half a second, it's in it's inch-by-inch mode. It's a function to prevent the driver being crushed against the steering wheel. Maybe it's a response to the demo graph of the typical Jag owner? (60+ and portly)

I have a late 2013 3.0 litre XF Sportbrake Premium Luxury, which I have owned for over 4 years. Apart from regular servicing, replacement parts - tyres, brake pads etc., it has never given me any major problems. It's comfortable, handles well for a big car, fast when you need it and spacious enough to carry 2 large dogs in the boot. And, as you say, a good looking car that stands out in the crowd...what's not to like!

  • @deanhall28
    @deanhall28 4 роки тому +3

Owned the same model shown now for a few years and have loved it. No major issues, great form long and short trips etc. Did change the wheels down to the 19" ones to smooth out the ride as the 20" wheels are just too thin and easy to damage. Found all the old wheels were already slightly buckled due to potholes. One massive thing I was surprised you missed was the rear self levelling air suspension. This why it took so long to come out after the saloon as it was redesigned to be a dedicated estate rather than a saloon with a big bum. Did bring me some joy when speaking to guy who just brought a brand new £80k+ BMW 7 series, who was bragging about how it was one of the only cars with air suspension and how he would never go back now. So just lifted the boot cover and told him "yeah its nice, only paid 20k for mine though" ha ha.

Two and half yr ownership has been a pleasure. Two oil and filter services, changed all belts at 80k,one alternator and one water sensor in fuel filter. Recently took it 500 mile and averaged 54mpg,38mpg local. Leak in tailgate is easily cured by removing bumper, lights and putting bead of silicone around louvre rubber seals. Would love a f type but difficult to get rid of a car so reliable and pleasurable to own! Totally agree with Matt's honest review of this model.

These are great cars, I had a 2013 2.2 litre model I bought in 2016 and sold last year. Nothing significant went wrong with it, although it did want to be serviced regularly. I have one of these. Exactly the same, model, colour, year, engine and trim. I think it is the best car I have ever owned and agree with everything he says. It is all you would expect from a Jaguar. I didn't but it because I needed the space, I bought it because I think it looks absolutely stunning. I still do and I still look back and admire it as I walk away and have had it well over a year! That says it all.

I own a Saab 9-3 2.2 TiD which I bought from new in 2002. I adore it, literally everything about it. I tried to replace it a bunch of times over the years, even buying other cars, but I never let it go and always ended up missing it and going back to driving it, selling off the newer car.
I had basically given up on being able to replace it with anything that I could actually afford, but watching your "Should you buy a Jaguar XF" video made me stop and think about it. I went and saw a few, test drove a couple and fell absolutely in love with a 5.0 normally aspirated Premium Luxury from 2011. It has really low mileage, is as clean as a whistle and comes with most of the upgrades (except USB, which was weird!). Luckily, my wife fell in love with it, too and we have been enjoying owning it for the past three months now!
I still have the Saab, in fact I sent it to my mechanic for a month's holiday to get it back to "as new" condition and while I still genuinely adore it, I am not driving it often at all.
Getting to the point, thank you for your videos and the advice that you give. I am not in the market for a car now, at least not for a while, but I continue to watch them to support the channel as I really appreciate the help that you gave me in uncovering this absolute gem of a car, a car that I would never have even thought of had you not made that video.
To anybody else considering an XF, go and get one. If you can find a reasonably low mileage, good history, clean, high spec one with, if possible, the 5.0 under the bonnet. A simply stunning engine and not quite as expensive to run as you might think, as long as you drive it with a little love and respect (most of the time!)

Just bought a 2015 XFS in Black with the Black pack on it. Can’t freaking wait to have it delivered. Your reviews have been so helpful. Ive always loved the looks but your reassurances about the reliability and it’s ‘special’ factor have reiterated that this is the perfect car for me. Can’t wait to get behind the wheel!

Enjoyed watching. I bought same car over 2 years ago. Love it. I noticed you didn’t have the heated steering wheel option that I thought was a gimmick but when cold I use all the time. Only annoying thing is the 20” wheels don’t like pot holes and buckle. I have a tyre that keeps gradually deflating due to a flat spot, that also causes a slight vibration in the steering wheel. I get about 34mpg generally and up to 40 on a decent run.

Earlier ones suffered with the intercooler and manifold. Plastic bit on intercooler went bang. Jag upgraded the part in later ones. Intercooler went on mine and was £800 fix. Got it back and a week last manifold went bang. £1200 repair! Broke my heart. 😂

Very common issue other than failing door locks (two of which were repaired on mine) is a leaking windscreen washer pump which causes major electrical issues by allowing washer fluid to travel by capillary action into the body control module located in the driver's footwell. Always check the multi-plug connectors that plug into this module for signs of corrosion if you're buying a facelifted Mark I XF (late 2011-2015) as it is a common fault and Jaguar has issued a tech bulletin on same. If caught in time, a new washer pump should sort it. Otherwise, it's a replacement module + wiring + re-progamming costs. Jonathan

I have a 2015 XFS sportbrake and it is by far the best car I have owned. I have had AMGs, M5s, a Nissan, GTR, new civic type R, Porsche Panamera and an audi RS6 and they don't come close to the Jag in terms of being the perfect all rounder. Loads of performance, hugely practical, costs hardly anything to buy and run and looks great.
It has way more power than you would ever need on the road, I dont have to worry about where I park it and most importantly because it is so cheap I don't look at it with resentment (like I did a lot of my old cars) due to how much it is costing me every month.

Have the 2.2 version (197 bhp), agree with the slightly agricultural engine, turbo lag, but have put almost 40k miles on it, twice down to Spain, before the world went crazy, and i love it. Had door lock issue, think the battery is on its way out, but what a lovely place to be on any journey. Not even thinking of changing it, just love it so much, and yes, still look back at it, when I walk away. One thing you did forget, the Sportsbrake has air rear suspension, which aids in the ride, that's Jaguar blurb, but have to say, I tow a caravan with mine, and, well, i don't know its there most of the time. Would i recommend one, to right, and technically, it's still British

Morning Matt my dad's had xf's in both variants since he took early retirement he's had two sportbrakes one was the 2.2 diesel, the current one 2.5 R sport (2litre engine)loves them to bits however as you were saying reliability isn't what you'd expect while nothing major has gone wrong its the niggling bits that just take the gloss out of owning one, it's just part of jaguar ownership i guess.

I`ve had 40 cars. BMW, Mercedes, Audi,VW, Seat,Volvo..now I have -13 Xf Portfolio Sportbrake. Owned it 4 years and 140.000km. And not a single problem. Very quiet, luxury interior, enough space, good to drive in summer and winter. And it´s very rare model here in Finland and still peoples comes and ask is it brand new. And hey..it is a JAAAAAAAAG :)

You are correct about the newer model interiors. I've had a 2010 and 2014 XF-S and both were streets ahead of the equivalent newer versions inside. The new design is also less attractive. Seems to me that Jag went mass market with it to attract 5 series owners and it therefore suffered.

A friend had a late plate saloon and loved the comfort etc but it broke down on him a few times on the m25 due to electrical issues. He was told by the specialist that it was the rear wiring harness under the rear seat and it was a common issue. It was soon sold for an A4 black edition that never let him down in around 3 years. He won't be going back to a jag that's for sure.
