- In todays VLOG, The day started slightly wet, with a beautiful 30 km ride to Maizuru, Ride, Ridden, Rode?, ferry tickets to Maizuru, difference between old and young in Japan, have to kill 8 hours, Japanese aircraft carrier, sim card top off, free wifi in 7-11, serendipitous coffee shop encounter I will never forget, ferry routes from Maizuru, Maizuru to Busan???, Brick Park, resisting flying over the navy ships, editing at the Ramen restaurant.

Isn't it amazing to be the recipient of a random act of kindness?? I remember when I had my desire to make videos and was interested in a high end selfie stick. I had asked a technical question to someone on UA-cam and he got back to me right away with the answer quickly, but he also said he wanted me to have his. I was taken back but provided my address; inside of a week it was delivered. Roaming Gnome is his UA-cam channel and his kind gesture remains the nicest thing a complete stranger has ever done for me. His only request was to pay it forward. 6 months later I met someone with cancer and made a large donation in honor of Roaming Gnome. The feeling from generosity from a complete stranger is a feeling difficult to describe.
I feel people used to be more generous in general back in the old days before all this digital age...
It feels like world is getting drier, commercialized and too individualized, resulting in a cut throat type of world...
That act of kindness is something extremely rare to find these days...
Good for you that got turned that into another act of kindness, hope that continues to spread...

It's a beautiful thing to see such acts of kindness from complete strangers. Brings back your faith in your fellow man . Can you turn the music volume down on your end when you put the videos together? It's so loud on this end and I have to keep turning my volume up and down, between you talking and the parts where you just have music playing. It's appreciated!!! you were talking about your trike and how the younger generation seem to like it better than the older generation. I think the Recumbent Trikes are cool I I own one and I also work in a bike & trike shop where we sell them. and I think it's nice to see other people riding them. and that was a nice random act of kindness for those people to give you that I hope you have a safe trip.
I really miss your Reef updates but watching your Journey is definitely filling the void. Great job so far safe journey and looking forward to the next one.

so sweet and lovely ladies... when I visited Nara by bicycle, I met groups of old ladies and you know what they gave me bunch of cookies, candies, and a bottle of energy drink...lucky I learned a bit Japanese and can thanks them with proper sentences *D

Lived in Japan for five years and still make regular trips back. Hokkaido people are quite friendly, honest and hearty, due to, as legend has it, because it was the last great area that was open and yet to be settled by mainland Japanese, aside from the indigenous Ainu aboriginals, of course.

I'm not particularly well travelled but it has always amazed me how no matter where you go in the world you can share some kind words or a coffee with a stranger and make the world a nicer place.

Amazing country
Some of my most memorable times have been when I was travelling to a new place and had 8 hours to kill in a random city or town. But that was a long time ago.
What a wonderful heart warming meeting with the mother /daughter coffee shop! That was just so great a way to start your vlog! Enjoy your ferry ride, see you tomorrow!

That one of the new "Helicopter Carriers" for the Japanese Self Defence Force. Japan do not have a big aircraft carrier, due to WW2 and issues about Pearl Harbour and that sort of thing. However that ship you saw was recently part of the drama involving the US Navy deploying to South Korea near the start of your journey. By the way, Japan has free wifi in all convenience stores.
I started watching your videos last year and this is probably my favorite so far. Great job and those people seem so friendly. I'm really enjoying Japan.

9:46 Why has the map got north at the bottom? Is that typical in Japan?
Seems just to be a better orientation for what they want to present. A lot of maps in Japan I saw, they rotate it so it would be easier to read and north was almost never on the top (but all the maps had direction of north on the map). In the end such maps confused me more.

Your head is a bit too big on the frame. Gives me a bit of a headache. If you can extend it back maybe even 6 inches it would be better. More comfortable for the viewer and also we get to see just a bit more of your surroundings.

Yes he does, with his wife (Anny) and child (Eva). Matt is an amazing fellow and I've been following him since before he first began his world tour. It's an understatement to say that you have a LOT of catching-up to do. I recommend going back to his earliest videos and then watching them in sequence to the present time. I've learned so much from them and you will too.
