Design Your Life | Diane von Furstenberg | TEDxVeniceBeach

- Опубліковано 26 лип 2018
- Just 18 months before Diane von Furstenberg was born, her mother was a prisoner at Auschwitz Concentration Camp. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, DVF vowed from a young age to be in control of her own destiny, to create her own freedom. She went on to found one of the most recognizable brands and dress styles in fashion. She's a designer, mogul, an icon, and a woman for whom 70 is just the beginning of the next chapter in life. In this talk, DVF shares stories and lessons from her life, and encourages us all to find our power and connect to those around us. Diane von Furstenberg entered the world of American fashion in the seventies, when she arrived in New York from Europe with a suitcase full of Italian jersey dresses she had designed. Her iconic wrap dress soon became a symbol of power and independence for an entire generation of women. Today, DVF is a global luxury fashion brand celebrated for its creative and chic effortlessness and its bold approach to color and print. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
"Don't wait for a tragedy to know that you are strong."
Really truth
"The most important relationship in life is the one you have with yourself. After that every other relationship is a plus."
...and not a must."
@@wangarimuriithi8748 Well said thanks.....
The primary relationship, for me, is the Eternal Love, Jesus Christ. Only the Eternal knows me better than I know myself ❤
@@jannley3036 ok 😜
If you focus on force you will fail or break........
If you focus on energy you will stagnate......But if you focus on intention and think about it a lot you will achieve your goal and your power.
I wish she expanded more on that...more on the spiritual aspects of the lessons. Instead of just telling her general story. Also how she got tongue cancer soon as she stopped expressing herself. All those things are connected. A great talk either way!

"If you doubt your power, you give power to your doubts."
"what kind of a woman do I want to be in my third act. How do I stay relevant?" - Powerful!
Powerful indeed! Having planned the third act in life one that is to empower others truly is admirable.
"If you focus on force, you will fail or brake. If you focus on energy, you will stagnate. But if you FOCUS on INTENTION and think about it a lot, you will achieve your goals and your power."
Finally ! A real woman like her, confident and beautiful inside out passing her knowledge to the world ! I am so happy that she decided to share her experiences with us..
the way she talked emits such a sense of richness, joy and vitality. delightful as it is enlightening. I want to listen to this talk many times. Thank you for sharing.
She keeps the flame and the memory of her mom intact. Never forget those tragic events... Outstanding integrity and Business Woman. DVF for President hahahah
Too bad we are letting them replay in China and Myanmar today.
Fascinating woman and life. She's two years older than I am and I've been watching her and following her career and life ever since the early 1970s when I worked as a fashion illustrator in NYC. Love the story of her incredible mother as well! Thanks for sharing~
This talk so deserved a standing ovation
It's a gift to have a kind, loving and nurturing mentor especially a mother that guides you to reach your full potential.
I'm putting on makeup rn and almost burst into tears when she said, "by giving you life, you gave me my life back."
Those are my Mother's exact words! She also added, 'never under estimate nor surrender your power". Wise strong relentless women! 🙏
“The most important relationship is the one with yourself, the others are a plus & not a must”, well said!
Sure enough, 9 months later, I was born and I was not normal ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Diane's mother; what she went through and survived, would've scared a Navy Seal. In other words; the mom was a badass, in the best sense of the term.
In the Editorial of ' MAGPIE ' , (an e- fashion magazine published under Magpie Extrim Pvt Limited) there is one line
" Dear Designers, you are designer of your own destiny."
Fine, yes we are designers of our own destiny.
She's a gem. So full of childlike passion
This woman is amazing. I met her in 1999 at FIDM. She was a very gracious person and signed my copy of "Diane - A Signature Life". It is fantastic that she generously shares her experiences with people.
That frank revelation of self should have got a standing ovation!
This was a powerful speech. I love her now wtf!
You've got such a pretty name.
Why doesn’t this talk have millions of views????!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙏🏻
Hi 1 minute ago comment !!!
@@charmedprince Hello lol
1. Fear is not an option
2. No matter what, you can never be a victim
3. We all go through situation that something completely goes wrong and we think that it is the worse thing in the world, but maybe it's not
4.
This talk so deseved a standing ovation
A wonderful talk that I thoroughly enjoyed. The difference is that it’s easy to design a life when you start with a different time, economy, privilege, population and most importantly did not need to think about your footprint. I am happy for her and really love the part about intention and her third act. I just find it strange that everyone is screaming about the warming earth, and we are mining deeper than ever, all of these people selling junk on amazon “designing their life, creating their brand”. I like to see people design their lives without it being at a massive expense to the planet.
I agree but I'm not sure she owns the company anymore
tracy g designing your life start with your passion and calling. if its means you contribute to healthier and more clean and peaceful earth you can design your life around it many people do. many people design their lives around sustainability minimalist and earth supporting life style and help educate others. in a paradoxical way the time we live in has much more opportunities to design the life you want.
She is amazing. Genuinely funny as well. Loved to see how people like her don’t have an ego because they know who they are and the good that they stand simply because they are strong inside. And love that “wow” in the end ask well. ❤️ 💪 💕 👗
Fabulous Diane von Furstenberg, "the power of intention"! In all circumstances, you have to be aware or remind yourself of your intentions and once you do that, amazingly stamina & energy to fulfil will swirl in your mind, body and the goal you aim to achieve.
I am so happy she finally got a Ted Talk! I've heard these stores from her other interviews so many times but she always includes new details and I never get bored. As good a storyteller as she is a designer.
Wow, this woman knows how to manifest her dreams. Very charming!♥️
This is one of the best Ted talks I've seen in a long time. Going out now to buy her book :D
Alexandra Templeton right! Not as pretentious as some of the talks. Just inspiring.
@@CS-cu2mr absolutely :D A really amazing woman
Absolutely, wonderful, wise, inspiring.
thank you for this wonderfull speech, especially for the story of the man who saved her mothers life, we sometimes are angry on situations that on the end are better for us, just open up for it... bessings..

As I sob hearing her story, I am so upset on what happened to her mother and the others. However the more I listen, the more I learn about a strong spirited woman that overcame many obstacles in her life. If we don’t learn and continue forward, what’s the point. Thank you for sharing this story 🙏🌸
