Great vid and lovely house mate! Out of interest did you have to fit any upright steels in or was it just that one above the basement to support the upstairs floor for building regs? Really interesting to see how it all went together start to finish.

I'm a builder in Holland, I'm most impressed you pushed through the last months of 'almost finished' with such energy and actually saw it through to absolute completion whilst maintaining those quality levels in the garden and finishing, that takes grit. The feeling when the plastering gets done is always one of the greatest achievements, but usually less than half way to the end due to all the little details.
Subscribed and looking forward to your next build!

That looks awesome and the tiered layers to make use of the sloped yard looks great too. The only thing I'm wondering about and would be concerned about is the water running down the road and into the driveway and straight into the garage. Maybe you addressed it in another video and it looks like you're not concerned since you were washing with a hose right on the driveway but I would be concerned during a heavy long rain that the garage would flood.

Great video. I know that down here in the south so many people including the council stay away for sloping sites due to the extra work and cost involved. Even though most of the town is built on hill sides. Great to see someone taking up the challenge. Personally I think it would be great if someone could come up with a range of designs to suite sloping sites (I know it's not that easy and there more to it) depending on soil and ground conditions and the slope. But given that so many houses are built on sloping sites and hill sides I personally think in my opinion that a range of standard plans could be a good idea

The reason most of our houses are built this way is a mixture between the resources we have and have always had (lots of trees) and being designed to withstand earthquakes, rigid with a bit of flex is good. These homes have no trouble in wind, been a few tornadoes in the south west and the worst it does is strips some of the roofing iron off.

I love how it's been designed as a home and not simply a property, the play area, the office separate from the house, the flow following the environment. Hell even the ramp!

    Bro.
    You’re a machine.
    Well done.
That schedule is impressive. Any other team would have taken twice as long at a minimum. (With the same number of team members)
    What was the build price?
Sorry just saw the price was under $1M.
    Mate. You’re amazing. Wow

As you would know, most clients have little concept on what is actually involved in a build.
    Your video is very educational.

It’s never easy to navigate the trials and tribulations when building, a smashed foot, Covid lockdown! Well done and heaps of credit for designing and building a beautiful home. I can imagine the feeling of pride and satisfaction, for you, your wife and boys. Such a big job. Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it and it encourages me with the task of tackling my second home build. My kids have all grown up now, so it’ll be smaller, simpler and thoughtful. Thanks so much for sharing your story Josh 😊

Amazing job, Josh. From awkward building site to plan drawings and off to good start, to lockdown nightmare, to full on building mode, to beautiful family home, lovely garden and outdoor play areas. Utilizing every bit of space for functional, comfortable and beautiful life. Very impressive congratulations. Best wishes from Indiana U.S.A.

"Lockdown nightmare"?! WTF are you talking about? It was 4 weeks and relatively relaxed and saved 20k+ lives in NZ.
