Great journey, you work really hard!
You’re surrounded in a wonderful landscape!
      But I’m curious:
You seem to be in the middle of nowhere:
From where do you get electricity? Water?
Where do the children go to school? How?
      Where do you get food?
I just wonder how you manage your days with 3 children and the huge work you accomplish!
Go on and thanks for sharing!

The biggest favor that you did for yourself was the drain system around the basement, and backfilling with gravel instead of dirt.

Mel and Gary...never have I see TWO people work as hard you two have. It looks great ..you should be PROUD for what your house looks like and knowing you DID all the hard work with your bodies and your mind. Years from now your children and grandchildren will sit, looking out at the beautiful mountain and remember their Mom and their Dad. How proud they will remember your life and the LOVE that your home gives them thru memories. God bless your entire family ...may you live long and enjoy all your dreams and your very hard work. Im on year 2 of sobriety after a 6 year battle with meth addiction. Its not easy starting life completely over and its a long road ahead but watching you guys work so hard and battle every obstacle together with a smile and determination has been just one of the things that keeps me motivated to get back out there and chase my dreams again and to NEVER give up. I live down in Little Rock and custom furniture was a minor of mine in college. I’d love to contribute to your project down the road some how as a thanks for the many hours of hope and inspiration you have provided me with by sharing your journey. Thanks and Much Love. I love building shows and I've been watching this cabin build from the beginning and just about reached the end. And the 1 thing I've noticed out of the hole show Is that the husband has not stop smiling once. Even through the short moments of adversity he has maintained that smile or that grin. He truly looks like a man who has found true happiness with his family and his life and his new home. I'm looking forward to the ending results.
God bless you and your family and I hope you smile becomes an infection that spreads through out the world.

I really respect this young couple building a large cabin in the Ozarks. Being originally in Memphis I have loved the ancient Ozark Mountains all my life. The area around Mountain Home and the Buffalo River was a place of extreme resonance for my soul. The peace, geology of that beautiful area is so intense for me. I miss this area so much.

It's been great watching you both work together so well, no doubt there's been plenty of blood sweat and tears gone into this build. I'm looking forward to the next stage, building the cabin way to go guys, your hard work and dedication, not just to the build, but to your little family, will be well worth it.

Great video....I love how you included the kids helping and all your family and friends and everyone who was involved in helping you two.....loved seeing the process and progress that you've all accomplished.....with lots of humor and fun.... working in the Hot and Cold, the Rain and Snow. All that Hard work, blood sweat and tears, you learned so many things along the way and you worked so well together, each one doing their part. I loved that Gary was so sweet to you Melanie when you had your shingles and encouraged you to take it easy and not stress out and rest and get better. I love how you spend time with the kids and your relationship with Anthony, Roxanne and Wyatt. Love that Wyatt has so much interaction with his cousins and Aunt and Uncle. I hope and pray that you all will continue to have that close relationship, work out any problems and remain close. I pray that you all continue to have good health and stay safe during the next faze of your journey.....the building of the log cabin house, that Gary's garage gets built ( I forgot how huge that cement slab was! That Garage is going to be Huge! Lol...)
I loved how you listed the people involved in everything the last year, their names and UA-cam channels, helping with their subscription base..... I'm sure they appreciated that! Lots of nice people....You all learned so much, went on through mistakes and persevered ....and finished your basement.....and continue to enjoy the process and family life.
I really enjoyed the year in review video! And I am looking forward to seeing the log cabin house build! Take care!
Greetings and blessings to you all..... from Angela in Michigan

FYI, it's just a tip, always start sheetrock on ceiling then you can butt the factory edge on walls to ceiling. This makes for tighter joints, helps hold ceiling sheetrock up, makes ceiling/wall tapping easier, ensures better heat efficiency. There are some additional reasons. I have done a entire house solo, even made a Sheetrock lift with wood for ceiling. Sheetrocking top part of wall is easy by using a ledger board and wedges. The bottom of the walls becomes easy with the rip cut at the very bottom. Doing it this way results in much less cutting and fitting.

Hello from NJ. Enjoying your video and I subscribed. Was cruising along through the video to the part you came down with shingles. OMG YOU POOR THING! I had it through last Christmas and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Wonderful Video! The music was so good. You showed all the ups, downs and the glory. I wanted to cry for happiness when you finally got to the end of laying alllllll those bricks. It must have seemed like it would never end. Look out the window. Look at the mountain.
I must say I never imaged what you have done. I have known about you guys but just never watched you videos. You have done a hell of a great job all on your own. Well, except for a few times you needed extras. And, the expert advice and guidance you received.
Happy New Year! Can't wait for what happens this year.

Hi guys! Fantastic job on the editing Mel!! It was so great to see everything you worked on last year summarized into a part 1, if you will, of your new home build. I had actually forgotten about some of the things you did. So, as they say, onward and upward to the next step of the build part 2) I know you guys will be awesome! Let’s get to it!! 💜

Beautiful place, I don't know weather you have thought about it but on your brick basement you should fill the bricks to the top. Also a french drain, so that all of the water can run away from the footing. Also water proofing the exterior brick walls. On my house they didn't and now all of the walls are caving in.
