Great video, will definitely recommend to newcomers to rally. Just one small correction, when you talked about pacenotes 'narrows' and 'widens' what you actually meant were 'tightens' and 'opens' - these describe the sharpness of the corner changing, ie. 5 tightens 3 or 2 opens 4. Narrows and widens refers to the road getting wider or narrower and don't describe the corner itself.
A 5 tightens 2-3 can be one of the most dangerous situations if you don't listen carefully. It's very likely you don't see the additional bend and will come in too fast.
Just bought WRC generations and this video showed up on my recommended. Didn't realize it was by a small youtuber until I read the comments. Keep it up man, awesome video that's easy to understand and well edited!
As someone who is attending the first Norwegian folk high school (look it up) with a course dedicated to racing/rally, this is actually very entertaining to watch. I've always loved rally since I was a kid but this helps me better understand the finer details which I can in turn implement at our course. The video is very well made and your voice is amazing. I can't wait to see your future videos!
A great video, as someone who has been sim rallying for ~6 months now, I think You described many things really well. Only one thing that I'd add: a little speech over how AWD, FWD and RWD cars handle differently cuz I've seen ppl jumping into RWD rally cars, try to drive it like its AWD and end up really confused
Just wanted to say I just watched your video and then raced my best rally yet knowing exactly what the co drivers callouts mean change everything thank you man
I want to preface this by saying i think this is a great video. Its quite beginner friendly and mostly accurate. Definitely something i wish i watched when i started out with sim-rallying. I just have a few (hopefully constructive) comments. I think you got mixed up on the difference between "narrows/widens" and "tightens/opens" The former means the road width is changing. You might go from a multilane road that "narrows" into a single lane road that can barely fit a car, which indicates that corners have to be taken a lot slower because there is a lot less runway on corner exit. Of course the opposite is true -- a narrow road that widens will allow for slightly more corner speed. On the other hand, a corner that "tightens" is a corner that begins at a specific severity, but then increases in severity (usually after the apex), indicating a reduced corner speed. When the tightening is severe enough, a new number will be read in the pacenote: 5-left tightens 3 is a corner that begins with severity 5 and then at or soon after the apex becomes a 3, indicating that you need to slow down. "Opens" does the opposite. Next is that i get you're trying to save time, but i don't think it would've taken that many seconds to mention that "early" and "late" refer to the position of the apex in the corner. A simple way to think about it is "i can accelerate early/late out of the corner" One rather large omission from pacenotes is the usage of corner length. Short, half-long, long, very long, extra extra long etc are used to tell the driver how long they can expect the turn to last, which is quite important to know since it can be hard to see where the corner ends (esp without VR!). In this game, in Japan for example, with the hillside next to you it is vital to know that the corner is very long so you don't accelerate too early and smash the barrier :P
You know that you're getting the real essence of rallying when pace notes stop being a distraction or an annoyance....when pace notes become really intuitive 😉👍
That moment of panic when you realize that although you’re finally following the pace notes to drive, at this moment you’re confused at which one you’re at and don’t know what to do.
Very good video. Been sim racing for years but still enjoyed watching it. Rally 2 and WRC 2 are great classes to learn on. Enough power to not bog down, and still modern 4wd so you can nearly just turn and floor it and go where you aim as they are very stable. Would also advise to turn off ABS and Traction controll, and turn stability down to 1 as well as turn up the sensitivity to around 70 and saturation down to 2 when on a controller and start from there. Not because the assists are bad, but because imo they are not really needed in a rally game where you want to have no TC to easier turn the car and no ABS as it just makes your braking a lot longer. These are no GT3 cars that like their TC and ABS. For Tarmac rallies, it helps to go to the spring section and lower the rear antirollbar and soften the rear springs and lower the ride hight at the rear a tad if you struggle with liftoff/snap oversteer where the rear comes out and you cannot catch it as softening and slightly lowering the rear makes it a lot more stable and planted. And when really beginning, just use automatic transmission and just focus on power/brake and handbrake. You are not as reliant on downshift braking as in circuit racing and you can focus more on keeping the car on the track.
For a first video is this actually amazing, I thought you already have at least a couple thousand subs and a history on youtube. Keep going I'm sure you will make it far!

As someone who has rallied irl, I totally agree, it's you and your car having a hell of a lot of fun, 8-16 miles of you and your skill vs the road, it doesn't matter how fast anyone else is going you just push yourself. It's a blast you never forget.
one thing i've been finding useful when the pace notes are coming at a speed where you're starting to feel confused and lost and just panic-reacting to corners as you see them, pick one and anchor onto it. keep that one in your mind and as soon as you spot it coming up, you can use it as a reference point to get everything back in order and get back into the flow

But get yourself to a rally school its a blast, we have now converted our 2 rally cars to road use, basic looks like nice car hiding under the skin is a pure rally car lol. "none for sale".
great video by the way 10-10, wonder if codemasters still got the huge Brass Plaque i sent them while doing Dirt Rally early stage release, i sent it to them from the community ! drawed it up in photoshop and got my brother in law to make it at his work place, blood thing was huge, and heavy..
going to a real rally school would be a blast! main issue is money lol. any kind of racing is gonna be expensive no matter what so one day i’ll get there! thanks for the comment, it’s fun hearing other people’s experiences.
This is not a sim
@@Lemaxance sim/sim-cade yes
This game is a POS....it's awful.
If you want a good game for current gen consoles, get WRC 9 (ps5 version)
I would have to disagree BUT I’ve never played WRC 9 so maybe i’ll have to try it out
now do RWD guide, specially on gravel
that’s a good idea.. expect that in the next couple of weeks
