This video was great and fixed own wipers in 5-10 minutes. I am no mechanic, but also not afraid to attempt to fix, prior to taking to shop to work on. 2014 Escape SE.
My only thing to add is to turn the key on, or push the button on push-start models, and with the wipers OFF first. This will secure the motor shaft in its stationary position for replacement of the arms. I've done this method myself on my 2015 Escape. GREAT videos you produce on the Escape.
Pro tip. If you keep the ignition to key one engine off. It locks the motors. So there is no chance to mess up the motor rest position. Then it makes it less sensitive once you reset home position
This is the God dam best pro tips. It's SO easy to move the arms after you start to bolt it down. I was like wtf am I doing wrong. They aren't even that off. Tried 5 tires. Read this comment, and now no issues. Thanks. The video did nothing, this was what I needed to read
Thanks for posting this. We had some extended work done on our Escape and when we got it back we thought all was well. Have not used the wipers until today and sure enough there was a problem. Not only was there a misalignment, but they had put the arms on the wrong side. Also had to do a BMS reset since they had taken the battery off several times. I'm not a mechanic at all so videos like this really saved me. Thank you.
Same issue here. Just got my car back from mechanic and the windshield wipers now cross each other as they come back to resting, so they are no longer parallel, but crisscross while resting.
Thank you!!!! I changed the battery myself after you know, having to take my Ford escape half way apart! The wipers were the only issue I had but after your video I was able to get them working right away.
Thanks so much. My wipers were hitting the frame of the car, this worked perfect on my 2017 escape. One note was hard to get the arms off had to spray with WD40 let soak a bit then still had to pull hard. Found the motor post a bit corrosion. Cleaned with mini wire brush and some WD40.
Great video! Replaced OEM wipers with aftermarket ones and they were misaligned. With your great instructions, I managed to adjust them correctly after just a few minutes! Thanks!

It doesn't want to work and I was thinking some problem with motor of the wipers or something like this,. But after I watch your video I follow step by step and it's work. Thank you for this video. It really helped realign the wipers on our 2013 Ford Escape after I had to remove the wiper arms etc to replace the battery. When I first put the wiper arms back BEFORE having seen this video, the wiper arms moved off the windshield! While hilarious, it was not the result I was looking for 🙂 So thanks again!!

Super helpful when I replaced one of my wipers and the driver sided was out of position. I let this simple repair go for a month before attempting the fix and I’m a little mad at myself for that 😂this was easy!
I have a 2015 and escape, and surprisingly I did not have these marks for the windshield wipers. But I improvised and actually nailed it. Thanks for the video. 😊

My guidelines seemed to be in reverse, but that could be due to after-market windshield? Running the motor with the arm off sounded like an extra step, but one I ended up needing to do. Thanks for posting, I'm set for the snow tomorrow.
Hi, did you turn off the engine before the wipers dropped to the off position? I distinguish between the turned off position and waiting for rain after wiping. I understand you did it in the waiting position because after turning the ignition on 4:29 your windshield wipers dropped. Truth?
Hi piotroe50! I do not have the rain sensing options on my SE so yes, I did turn the wipers off first then the engine to make sure they went back to their resting position.

OMG, I had the battery incorrectly replaced on the vehicle and they removed the wipers yet did not replace them correctly. I’ve been driving risky for months and the torrential rains came. Good question- does the other wiper move correctly? And does the wiper in question struggle for consistent motion? Or does it just stop in that position?
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews the passenger wiper works fine, and it gets stuck going down but not always so i guess it struggles to move consistently
@@TylerMooreMusic understood- how are the upper and lower limits? Does it max out at the right position to come back down then lift up from the correct spot on the bottom? If so, I'd say it is indeed a wiper motor issue
Nice Video. One question, is there a way to lose the connection of the wiper and motor? Mine seems stucked, it won't come off no matter how hard I try. Thanks
Hey thanks, @douzi9037- yes. A basic puller tool should be all you need (along with some penetrating oil too, perhaps). Link to the puller tool is here on Amazon if you're interested: amzn.to/48kYFv5. An easily accessible penetrating oil is "PB Blaster". Just spray it on the splines and let it sit for a few minutes then try the puller tool. Hope this helps- give a shout if you have any other questions!
Cheers for this, I had my windscreen replaced a couple of months ago, the wipers were never right and the rain sensor was all over the place. Done this they now clean to the edge and the anomalies I was having aitht the rain sensor have sorted it self out.
Thank you 🙏🏽. Worked for me. But also after removing the battery, my cup holder lights and the lights by your feet do not light up anymore . Any help ?
I assume you went through all of the menu's & owners manual and couldn't find an option to turn them back on. Make sure you check everywhere, not just the IC. Sometimes controls like that can be in the radio or on a touch screen. If you can't find anything, and the lights are factory installed, you'll need to use a scan tool. The only scan tools I have are factory units. A good SnapOn, Alltel, Launch, etc.., probably has this function, but I can't say for sure. I'm fairly certain these lights are customer controlled. They're just lights. For certain features, you can also use a scan tool to unlock them, so the customer can make the adjustment without having to use a scanner every time.
Great video man, thx :) Now, i have a problem with my VIN number (Ford Focus Mk3), its moist, like drops on the glass from inside. I dont have any moisture in the cabin, floor and everything else is actually dry. Should I be concerned the windshield is defective? Or is this some condensation built up from air condition or something?
Only problem I have is my windshield has been replaced and the new one does not have the marks on it for “at rest” reference.. windshield installer was unable to replace the arms correctly, my turn to try.. your video gives me a fighting chance, thank you!

Leave the key in on position after turning wipers off . This keep shafts from moving when slipping wipers back on. Wipers can move with key off knocking that drivers shift slightly out of position.

Thanks so much! I didn't even know the tool existed. This is really helpful.@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews
you're welcome! Hope it works easily for you! @@douzi9037
Cheers for this, I had my windscreen replaced a couple of months ago, the wipers were never right and the rain sensor was all over the place. Done this they now clean to the edge and the anomalies I was having aitht the rain sensor have sorted it self out.
Worked like a charm. Very straight forward!! I am pleased.
Bro if you keep making videos just like this with detail, you will be at 1mill subscribers in no time lol thanks.
Had to do a brake flush on a 2017 Chevy Bolt, this worked perfectly. Thank you!
Excellent!
Great video man, thx :)
Now, i have a problem with my VIN number (Ford Focus Mk3), its moist, like drops on the glass from inside.
I dont have any moisture in the cabin, floor and everything else is actually dry. Should I be concerned the windshield is defective? Or is this some condensation built up from air condition or something?
Thank you, I had a stress attack after replacing my battery. This worked perfectly!!
Can’t wait to try this tomorrow!! 🙏🏼 praying it works!! Thank you!!
Live Saver…. 2013 Escape gave me BIG Trouble. I never noticed the hash mark indicating wiper orientation.
Thanks a million
Only problem I have is my windshield has been replaced and the new one does not have the marks on it for “at rest” reference.. windshield installer was unable to replace the arms correctly, my turn to try.. your video gives me a fighting chance, thank you!
Saved me a lot of time after replacing battery. Thanks!!!!
I had the same issue with my ford escape 2013. The wipe doesn't reset well , when I changed the new battery. I have to follow your videos , so I can do it my self as you did

Thanks Joshua! I hope everything went smoothly in getting this done on your vehicle!
Thank you. I only watched to see what position the wipers should be in (passenger under drivers). I had someone lift both to clean the windshield of ice.😊
You help me out after a battery replacement, Thank You
Perfect. Solved the issue with my '17 Escape blades hitting each other on the down stroke.
Excellent video, perfectly explained, no nonsense. Thank you!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This worked exactly as described on the first try -- not always the case when I try to fix a car issue (haha).

Hey Keith! Sorry for the delay- glad you were able to find it helpful and thanks so much for taking the time to say something! Have a great day!
Leave the key in on position after turning wipers off . This keep shafts from moving when slipping wipers back on. Wipers can move with key off knocking that drivers shift slightly out of position.
