One of the most disappointing things in Australian motorsports is the lack of national championships. There is no sports car or open national championship. No Gold Star open wheeler series, no Australian Sports Car championship, just an east coast based V8 Supercar series that is not even called the Australian Touring Car Championship. Everything is disjointed with a massive gulf between club level racing and the few corporate events. Apart from historic meetings there are virtually no spectators at club events from where most drivers once were inspired to have a go at racing.

Great to have you gents back on screen chewing the fat and telling it like it is.
As for the Adelaide festival..where are the Superkarts ? They were a great part of the Adelaide F1 in the good old days.
Also...officials should be paid. If they are paid by the M/A members, they are more accountable and should do the job they are employed to do. If they don't, then they're out of a job which is decided by referendum of members.

The difference between money spent on motorsports facilitys and ballsports facilitys is rediculous.

This discussion about F1 introducing F2 and F3 to the AGP reducing from the chance of Australian Motorsport getting a show at such a big event is the exact words most Australian Motorsport classes echo about what v8SC has done to Australian "grass roots" State based racing.

Wanneroo is now known as Carco Raceway (bet they'll be pissed no-one outside of WASSC knows!). Collie is a great little club track - perfect for local racing and driver training. Outside of the runoff areas and a good portion of the inside is bushland, with almost no seating. From Paul's videos I'd say Norwell has way more facilities - but you still couldn't host a V8 round there.
Two WA rounds would be awesome for us as fans too, but we need some politicians who don't hate motorsport before we'll get a new track built (McGowan killed the WRC round here before he was even Premier!). There is a third track 'proposed' or maybe even under construction further north of Perth - but it's a millionaires club, the likes of me will never get to drive it - maybe it might be suitable?

I disagree with Dudes view of "have we gone to SMP too much, eg during covid", no. SMP is a really good technical track that has produced some hard core and exciting racing in the past few years. I mean look at the 2018 race, that was probably one of the best races in recent history. It had a number of potential contenders for the win, it was like watching a Friday night footy match on the edge of the lounge screaming at the TV. Was epic!

I've been saying for a few years now, what if the next car V8's designs can also run on dirt aswell.. (here's my concept).. imagine say SMP right... they run a day meeting on the circuit, then that night under lights using the same cars (obviously with dirt tyres on and remove the lexan screen and install a rock screen) they run at the speedway. Now obviously that wouldn't work at every track, but it would open more more opertunity to run the cars and put bums on seats. You could also run dirt only events in that case🤷🏻‍♂️ just an idea

  • @shoominati23
    @shoominati23 4 місяці тому

They should have an entry level V8 class, kind of like the old Commodore Cup, but with more homebuilt vehicles kind of like Hobbystocks dirt cars in the US (don't bring up the excels either) so you could have 5.7 litre V8s (Chevrolet 350 and Ford 351) in sedan chassis like commodores or Falcons from VB/XD up to VS/EL and have weight breaks for the different chassis to maintain parity (and no, these are not sports sedans, there would be control roll cages, Aero limited to control front lip and rear spoiler, and limited mods you could do to the engines with control cams and cylinder heads / mods to cylinder heads and the ford would be a windsor 5.7 so no cheating with canted valve cylinder heads) The Commodore Cup missed the point by trying to be something it wasn't (being a class for aspiring V8 supercar drivers, which not many became and probably why it died) And I don't know what they are trying to do with Saloon Cars. This would be a class for people who wouldn't get a chance otherwise or missed the boat to get a chance to race at a V8 Supercars meeting in a support class.

Interesting that RD and PM say there's an issue, but can't offer what they would do differently and wouldn't take the job.
Hard to piff stones at MA and not be willing to get your hands dirty. These two are two of the most qualified people in the country to do great things with MA, but don't seem willing to. This is the reason MA is in this situation. They don't have the right people with motorsport experience in the right places, but nobody seems to want to.
Really needs solutions more than criticism, and that's about all we have here.
Stewards being paid is an interesting subject. But the issue comes from the very top where there is a lack of complete understanding of the industry. (Which is far bigger than Supercars or ARG)

Go the Giz! Ambrose proved that AU/NZ drivers are fast drivers but because Ambrose struggled a little on ovals they never gave them much credit. Now Giz has showed up and caught them asleep at the wheel. I think Giz embarrassed the Yanks a little and for that reason they are giving him a lot more respect, almost embracing him. And to his credit is continuing to show them how its done by getting some good results. I hope he can overtake Jesse Love for Rooky Of The Year
Take the V8's away and there will be no more Nascar, Supercars or anything. People just will stop watching and attending races. Bring back the Holinger H pattern

Gotta move on with the times and you can't buy a new V8 car from a dealership.
Had to explain to a kid that manual gearboxes basically don't exist anymore as there's less than 8 cars in Australia, that even have one still and the only real reason why he was desperate for a manual lic was his dad wanted him to get one for work reasons even though that wouldn't be the case anyway

The promoters put it on Pay TV, and are reaping what they sowed, with only people who follow it on Pay TV.
Football is on 4 nights a week, does anyone remember Super League when they wanted all football on Pay TV.?
No one in the Motorsport arena listened when the fans said it was a bad idea. If you don't listen to what the paying fans want, they take their money elsewhere.
I am glad grass roots are being recognised again, as I kept pointing out the importance of such on The Enforcer and The Dude in the comments.
So I will ask the question again. Where does the apprentice mechanic, or the car loving workers in all of the industrial estates across the country take the cars they use every day to go racing? Yep, Drifting, Drag Racing, and Burnouts, because no one can afford to go Circuit Racing, and their is no category to aspire to.
Back in my day - a kid could drive his car to and from work through the week, work on it one weekend, and race the next. Rallying was my preferred category when Dattos and Geminis were cheap. Some mates had 6 cylinder Toranas, and the older and slightly richer mates went in to V8s. Can you see the path, as pays increased, we kept improving or changing categories, and there was always the dream of Oz championships, or the one off events like Southern Cross Rally, Bathurst, or getting in front of the Touring Cars when they came to town.
These days a kid has to also have a daily driver which now has to be tow car, a $3,000 car trailer, a $5,000 crappy Excel with a $2000 roll cage, $2,000 race suit, and $500 of entry fees. All on $800 per week, just to race local.

F1 is so popular now they don't need Supercars as a championship round and they shot themselves in the foot by not managing parity above interests of competing teams spec car that is product of series vs manufacturer... Re wrote the entry rules when they controlled the tuning of engines and antiquated aero tests...

    Phillip island weekend before agp.
Makes you wonder with all the people these lads know why they cant all combine to open and or support a track to be upto a v8 level track.
Lets face it the average joe blow is not going to able to afford to open a track or run a track.
But im sure the likes of RD has made a substantial amount of cash to invest into grassroots or help a track step up to a national level.
