that 28 car was cursed, even when Ernie Irvan got in there after Allison passed he almost died himself and was out of racing a few years before he came back but he was never the same though he did win a few more races.
Do not ever forget Adam Petty... i saw him run the wheels off a late model at Myrtle Beach, get spun out 3 times and still finish 4th... when he was only 16...

Davey Allison was a fighter and he never gave up whenever he got hurt both physically & psychologically. He’s a legend and one of the best NASCAR drivers of all time. It’s been 30 years since he died.

I grew up in a RYR household, and to this day sport #28 in my racing efforts. Davey will always be one of those mythical people in NASCAR history. Kind as could be, and yet a fierce and respected competitor. Before Gordon, there was Davey to be the antithesis to Sr; he was just that damn good...
Davey was one of the few that could truly take the fight to Earnhardt on a superspeedway. Like Greg Moore, I’m so grateful I got to see them drive, but always wonder how a “complete” retirement on their terms would have looked. EXCELLENT work Brock & NASCARMAN ❤🙌💗🏁🏁🎩😜
The sport of modern nascar is now dominated by snotty silver spooned rich kids. Davey sometimes had that reputation back in the day because he was Bobby Allison’s son, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. He worked for everything he earned, had serious work ethic, and was a stand up example of what a role model should be. He was humble beyond his age and never made excuses for the adversity he faced. It’s a damn shame he left us so early. He had so much more to to teach all of us.
I'm too young to have watched or known a ton about Davey, but the more I see of him, the more I think he'd be my favorite if I were around back in the 80's and early 90's.
Lots of videos out there.... believe you can be a bad ass.... he drove hurt he paid attention to all aspects of what was needed. He always knew he could be better, but never forgot the fans who loved his almost super human ability to drive hurt. He knew he was lucky to do what he loved.the exact opposite of one Bubba I am special because I have a permanent tan. Yes he truly would have been something special but we have a very special person called Mark Martin . He is the same tough,mean, don't friggin think I can't attitude. We have living legends in NASCAR. And we have lost some also.

Throughout Davey's career I was at half the races he ran, and watched the rest on TV. From 1986- 1999 a group of about 12 of us that worked in the Carolinas/ Virginia for the gas company. We regularly attended both races at Bristol Martinsville Richmond, Charlotte, Rockingham, wilksboro, Dover, we also would go or at least went a couple times to Talladega, Pocono, Dover. Davey was in a very fast car, Robert Yates at that time had horsepower and great support and team. Here where I differ with you on Davey winning multi championships. When Davey car was off, he just couldn't seem to finish the race where the car should finish on that day. He would usually wreck it or blow it up. If Davey had a 10th place car, most likely he was going to finish at best 25th. If dale Earnhardt, Terry labonte, Jeff Gordon had a 10th place car, most likely they was going to finish 6th- 8th. Hell it's good chance Earnhardt would win with it. He just wasn't good at managing a car that wasn't very fast
I was born in 1995 so I was never even around for Davey Allison. Your video helped me appreciate Davey's life and career, in a way that I couldn't before. I remember watching the 2001 Daytona 500 live, when Dale Sr. died. Even though that happened when I was just 5 years old, I understood that monumental loss to the racing world. Sr. at least had such a long, remarkable career before his death, and everyone was talking about it. I didn't even know about Davey Allison until much later on. I think the first I had ever heard of him was when I saw a video of someone eating a 30 year old can of Davey's Chili. When I found S1apshoe's video about the 1992 championship, I started to learn. But Davey and Alan were still just mythical figures to me. I knew Davey was good enough to be in contention, won some races that year, became a human punching bag with all his wrecks. But Alan ultimately got the championship. To me, Davey still seemed like a kid compared to the veterans around him. Taken too soon before he reached greatness. Thank you for putting this all together. I am amazed that you were able to dig up and compile all of this footage. It really makes a difference to hear Davey speaking, seeing all of his race wins, how he raced around the legends of the sport that I actually saw race. Helps kids like me realize that he really was among best. If not the best, like his father Bobby said.
Of all the deaths in NASCAR, this one hurts the most. Davey Allison is one of the greatest heroes in the History of NASCAR, and the fact that we never got to see his full potential is horrible. I'm so thankful for this video helps us to remember his perseverance, the lives he gave to others, and the championship he won.
Dale Sr. Actually did more for NASCAR than anyone. Davey just never had the time. Think about Davey racing with those legends.... Gordon, Smoke, Edwards, Newman,he was a threat always. But Dale Sr. Put NASCAR on his back and changed the sport. NASCAR is going woke, and I believe they hate their true fans. I have loved and still love this sport because of giants like Davey! I have seen many documentaries on Davey and this is by far the best one I’ve ever seen many clips I have never seen before, and I thought I had seen most all of them. Thank you so much for your efforts. Just finished this after splitting it up into two sections. This is by far your best work yet. As much as I love Brock’s narration I also love seeing as much original footage as possible and I think this does a great job of balancing a documentary and just showing how Davey’s career played out directly through the original broadcasts.
I was only 2 when Davey passed & I've always heard my Dad constantly say Earnhardt & Gordon would have had the championships they did had Davey lived. And I know many share that belief. Knowing of 1991 Sonoma, I had wondered for a while if Davey was or was becoming one of NASCAR's Golden Boys. Some people for some reason call Chase Elliott one because of who his Dad is, although there is no evidence. But I had wondered if there was a case of sorts here, considering Davey's Dad is also a Cup champion... After watching this video, I can confirm that, like Chase Elliott, Davey Allison was not a Golden Boy. Yeah he has the name, but he also had the talent. He did prove his worth. Yeah '91 Sonoma was BS, but that was NASCAR being NASCAR, & not any Golden Boy shenanigans like I was previously curious/concerned about. I'd like to think Davey is who Kyle Busch would be if he was *much* more nicer & cleaner as a driver.
I grew up in Hueytown during the "Alabama Gang" Era. The Allisons are still honored in our community. The main street in Hueytown is still called Allison-Bonnet Blvd.

Always remember him. Sweet boy and great NASCAR driver. Never forget when he left us. My husband was a race car driver. Even with 10 kids we went racing when and where ever we could. He was a mechanic n Jack- of- all- trades. Build you a race engine or car. Build or tear down a house, he could do it. His dad started a racing club to teach boys to race and become mechanics. In Southern CA. My husband eventually moved to Northern CA. He died of cancer 15 years ago. Of course he was a race driver thru n thru. I have the car he raced with Mark Martin in some place I’m 83. We raced in Oregon n Nevada. Went lots of tracks. Once at a track near Sacramento area, the tire man, Tom was having a little trouble getting some money. Kevin Harvick came up on his bicycle. Talked to the guys. Left and came back with a check for Tom. Kevin has always been my favorite. Of course my husband was the best driver ever, Dale Earnhardt. Both my husband n Dale’s photos are in the upstairs hallway. I still live in our home he built 50 years ago. If he had raced on more season he would have raced 50 years. Our home is full of his trophies n fire suits. We all miss him. He is on the internet. Can’t ask for more than that. Can you imagine the goings on at the great racetrack in the sky? I sure can. That is a great story. I was only a kid when he died but it devastated me, he was such a nice guy. I cried that day and it felt weird because I didn't even know him, yet he was gone.
I'm 53 years old and remember all of this like it was yesterday. I set on a front end loader at work when it came across the radio that my Driver the man I had watched come from the bottom to the top had passed away,,,,,& I cried like a baby all day had to go home from work early n I still cry today when I have relive all of his ups and downs... Hurts my heart. Davey and the #28 will live forever in all who witnessed the man and his career. Long live Davey.

I remember the Sundays spent with my kids watching this era of NASCAR. I knew this video was going to be tough to watch because I knew how it ends. Reliving the highlights through this documentary kind of grounds a person. Davey was our guy, had his picture on the wall next to the TV. Thanks to all that competed during that era, both our heroes and villains and the guys who didn't get much mention in the broadcasts but still competed. God speed to those who "crossed the finish line" before the rest of us.

Awesome tribute to Davey Allison, I live in Alabama and I was 10 when he died. I remember it very well it was very sad I was very sad. My dad was not a Allison fan but he saw that I was upset about it and he bought a model of the 28 car for us to put together with each other. That is one of my favorite childhood memories.
Here the day after Bobby passed away. Sad day but what a life he had. What a man and what a family. There is no replacing any of the Allison’s. Their entire family story is filled with obstacles and they were always good people. Rip Bobby
I was a regular competitor in the street stock division at Flat Rock Speedway. One weekend our class was off because the Talladega Super Car Series was coming to town, Flat Rock and Toledo. I was always a Bobby Allison fan Listening a AM radio on a beach somewhere. I had to see this guy , we where the same age then make it for the show. And he did (during his honeymoon). I never saw a 3,500 lb. stock car pull the LF tire a Coke bottle high getting off every corner like a midget car (RIP) Perry Younce. Davey ... Thanks for that memory
Davey, Allison, in my opinion, took the name of “the athlete“ to another level and owned it. He had to struggle and work hard he had to push to the limit he had to sacrifice everything he could, and you had to work to the back of the bone to be a racecar driver. He might’ve not win a lot of races. He might’ve that won a championship with in my opinion is NASCAR’s champion
This was a great documentary, Davey Allison was only a few years before my time. I grew up and still am a big Jeff Gordon fan, and I can only wonder what would've been different if Davey didn't pass. Reality is so cruel, I think I woulda liked him a lot. The Fast Masters series shoulda been more popular, a field of Jaguar XJ220s looked so awesome! Edit: Just realized I finally got around to watching this on the 28th... funny how things work out. RIP Davey Allison
Davey was truly a special talent & a great human being. Truly Missed to this day along with the likes of Dale, BP, Neil and many others who were apart of this sport.
I can never watch a story on Davey and not shed some tears. He was my driver as a kid and I still remember when my dad told he me he didn’t make it. I cried for I can’t remember how long. He was truly my childhood hero for racing. 😢 I had forgotten the IROC championship. Just made me cry some more hearing that.
Boby & Davey 1 & 2 in 1988 had to be the best feeling ever. UMP Dirt Modified Racing w/ my Dad for many years was an amazing time of my life. I watched him and helped him until I was 15, we lied and said that I was 16 , climbed into my first brand new Dirt Works Modified with a highly illegal 434 SBC, Bert trans, Quick Change rear, the left front tire never hit the dirt from green to checkered. I won 14 races that season (not all UMP Sanctioned), but my first year 15 yrs old set the stage for the next 20 yrs. The first race with Dad when I passed him w/ 2 laps to go in the feature, was monumental for us. It was a true passing the torch moment! He told me before every race, that I better not give him any favors on that track. lol. I would get my butt whooped if i didn’t pass him. He was serious!

I was born in 1996, but I’m a huge fan of old nascar. With all the racing on UA-cam I’ve watched every race through for years, and I’m a huge fan of Davey. This video is tremendous and well put together, it really gives someone like me who unfortunately never got to experience him racing while he was alive the chance to appreciate how much of a determined, polite and skilled race car driver such as Davey was. Hard to believe its been 30 years since his lost to the racing community. The whole Allison family members has been through more than what any family should ever endure. Loosing both sons at a young age in life. RIP Davey and Clifford your both missed.
Davey was my first favorite driver. He looked like my dad, and when he passed I was only 3 but I remember how sad I was. I had one of the New Bright r/c cars shown in the intro and I wear my new reproduction Davey shirt to the local track. Never forgotten!

First time watching this cried half way thru this I just turned 50 July my dad would take us to Talladega. I saw Davy when his first race and they came an instant fan. I believe I was like 12 years old and I was Allison fan, which I always grew up ford man! He was the greatest!!!
I grew up in Hueytown down the road from Donnie Allison’s shop. I met Bobby Donnie Davey , Red farmer Clifford Allison as a kid. From my house I could see Daveys place lit up for Christmas 🎄 every year. Great memories.

im from nc so we always went to a bunch of races growing up. i can remember as kid on top of truck in infield of tracks following him all the way around the track.
What an amazing piece!! I remember going to the dollar store the day after his death and seeing cardboard in the windows saying that they were sold out of davey matchbox style cars. The gravity of the situation was lost on me as I was only 7 at the time.

Still remember the news article from the paper when he died. Cause, well... that's how we still got our news in 1993, outside of TV news. hah. It was hard to believe. Especially after losing Alan barely any time before it. Great video. Watched it all the way through. It filled plenty of gaps of information I didn't even realize, and also reminded me even more about how good he was. I remember by the end of 92 thinking....man this guy wins too much. lol
This video is really well done. So many moments and special people in it. Great to see all of these announcers and especially all of the drivers again. It's a tearjerker of course, but worth every moment. We were very fortunate to have watched Davey back in the day. He was a one of a kind.

Davey Allison was a great driver and a great person. He was taken so early in my NASCAR fan years that I still never got to see his true talents behind the wheel. I got a Racing Champions diecast of his 2 weeks before his passing. After his death I always wondered what kind of driver he could have become. I remember telling my mother these exact words "He didn't deserve to die".
The Waddell story about BobbY Allison #28 Pontiac was very cool. I was under the assumption that Bobby also had something to do with the choice of that particular car! Nascar ended up outlawing that car after that 500! Amazing stories! Love it! Thank again!
Only twice in my life have I seen the Alabama Interstate shut down where everyone pulled to the side of the road and put thier hats over thier hearts was for Bear Bryant and the Allison familly because both those families did a lot for the state and thier sports. May they all rest in heaven and never be forgotten.

I proudly have a hat and my business card autographed by Davey at his win at Talladega in 1987. I’m a helicopter 🚁 pilot and when he was killed in a helicopter 🚁 crash in 1993 at Talladega it was heartbreaking. I’ve not worn that hat since but preserve it for the memories of my days flying Channel 13 in Birmingham to the races in Talladega and Atlanta in 1988. R.I.P. brother.

I have seen many documentaries on Davey and this is by far the best one I’ve ever seen many clips I have never seen before, and I thought I had seen most all of them. Thank you so much for your efforts. Your racing documentaries are better than anything NASCAR has ever produced, and that’s not a slight on NASCAR, you just do a tremendous job and you should be proud. Thank you again.

Just finished this after splitting it up into two sections. This is by far your best work yet. As much as I love Brock’s narration I also love seeing as much original footage as possible and I think this does a great job of balancing a documentary and just showing how Davey’s career played out directly through the original broadcasts.
I was only 2 when Davey passed & I've always heard my Dad constantly say Earnhardt & Gordon would have had the championships they did had Davey lived. And I know many share that belief.
Knowing of 1991 Sonoma, I had wondered for a while if Davey was or was becoming one of NASCAR's Golden Boys. Some people for some reason call Chase Elliott one because of who his Dad is, although there is no evidence. But I had wondered if there was a case of sorts here, considering Davey's Dad is also a Cup champion... After watching this video, I can confirm that, like Chase Elliott, Davey Allison was not a Golden Boy. Yeah he has the name, but he also had the talent. He did prove his worth. Yeah '91 Sonoma was BS, but that was NASCAR being NASCAR, & not any Golden Boy shenanigans like I was previously curious/concerned about.
I'd like to think Davey is who Kyle Busch would be if he was *much* more nicer & cleaner as a driver.

I grew up in Hueytown during the "Alabama Gang" Era. The Allisons are still honored in our community. The main street in Hueytown is still called Allison-Bonnet Blvd.

Always remember him. Sweet boy and great NASCAR driver. Never forget when he left us. My husband was a race car driver. Even with 10 kids we went racing when and where ever we could. He was a mechanic n Jack- of- all- trades. Build you a race engine or car. Build or tear down a house, he could do it. His dad started a racing club to teach boys to race and become mechanics. In
Southern CA. My husband eventually moved to Northern CA. He died of cancer 15 years ago. Of course he was a race driver thru n thru. I have the car he raced with Mark Martin in some place I’m 83. We raced in Oregon n Nevada. Went lots of tracks. Once at a track near Sacramento area, the tire man, Tom was having a little trouble getting some money. Kevin Harvick came up on his bicycle. Talked to the guys. Left and came back with a check for Tom. Kevin has always been my favorite. Of course my husband was the best driver ever, Dale Earnhardt. Both my husband n Dale’s photos are in the upstairs hallway. I still live in our home he built 50 years ago. If he had raced on more season he would have raced 50 years. Our home is full of his trophies n fire suits. We all miss him. He is on the internet. Can’t ask for more than that. Can you imagine the goings on at the great racetrack in the sky? I sure can. That is a great story. I was only a kid when he died but it devastated me, he was such a nice guy.
I cried that day and it felt weird because I didn't even know him, yet he was gone.

I'm 53 years old and remember all of this like it was yesterday. I set on a front end loader at work when it came across the radio that my Driver the man I had watched come from the bottom to the top had passed away,,,,,& I cried like a baby all day had to go home from work early n I still cry today when I have relive all of his ups and downs... Hurts my heart. Davey and the #28 will live forever in all who witnessed the man and his career. Long live Davey.

I really miss Davey Allison. He was just a wholesome guy and an incredible talent.
I remember the Sundays spent with my kids watching this era of NASCAR. I knew this video was going to be tough to watch because I knew how it ends. Reliving the highlights through this documentary kind of grounds a person. Davey was our guy, had his picture on the wall next to the TV. Thanks to all that competed during that era, both our heroes and villains and the guys who didn't get much mention in the broadcasts but still competed. God speed to those who "crossed the finish line" before the rest of us.

1993 and 1994 were so tragic for NASCAR. From Alan and Davey to Bonnett and almost losing Ernie Irvan. It’s sad.
Awesome tribute to Davey Allison, I live in Alabama and I was 10 when he died. I remember it very well it was very sad I was very sad. My dad was not a Allison fan but he saw that I was upset about it and he bought a model of the 28 car for us to put together with each other. That is one of my favorite childhood memories.
Here the day after Bobby passed away. Sad day but what a life he had. What a man and what a family. There is no replacing any of the Allison’s. Their entire family story is filled with obstacles and they were always good people. Rip Bobby

I was a regular competitor in the street stock division at Flat Rock Speedway. One weekend our class was off because the Talladega Super Car Series was coming to town, Flat Rock and Toledo.
I was always a Bobby Allison fan Listening a AM radio on a beach somewhere. I had to see this guy , we where the same age then make it for the show. And he did (during his honeymoon). I never saw a 3,500 lb. stock car pull the LF tire a Coke bottle high getting off every corner like a midget car (RIP) Perry Younce. Davey ... Thanks for that memory

Davey, Allison, in my opinion, took the name of “the athlete“ to another level and owned it. He had to struggle and work hard he had to push to the limit he had to sacrifice everything he could, and you had to work to the back of the bone to be a racecar driver. He might’ve not win a lot of races. He might’ve that won a championship with in my opinion is NASCAR’s champion
This was a great documentary, Davey Allison was only a few years before my time. I grew up and still am a big Jeff Gordon fan, and I can only wonder what would've been different if Davey didn't pass. Reality is so cruel, I think I woulda liked him a lot.
The Fast Masters series shoulda been more popular, a field of Jaguar XJ220s looked so awesome!

I can never watch a story on Davey and not shed some tears. He was my driver as a kid and I still remember when my dad told he me he didn’t make it. I cried for I can’t remember how long. He was truly my childhood hero for racing. 😢 I had forgotten the IROC championship. Just made me cry some more hearing that.
Boby & Davey 1 & 2 in 1988 had to be the best feeling ever. UMP Dirt Modified Racing w/ my Dad for many years was an amazing time of my life. I watched him and helped him until I was 15, we lied and said that I was 16 , climbed into my first brand new Dirt Works Modified with a highly illegal 434 SBC, Bert trans, Quick Change rear, the left front tire never hit the dirt from green to checkered. I won 14 races that season (not all UMP Sanctioned), but my first year 15 yrs old set the stage for the next 20 yrs. The first race with Dad when I passed him w/ 2 laps to go in the feature, was monumental for us. It was a true passing the torch moment!
He told me before every race, that I better not give him any favors on that track. lol. I would get my butt whooped if i didn’t pass him. He was serious!

I was born in 1996, but I’m a huge fan of old nascar. With all the racing on UA-cam I’ve watched every race through for years, and I’m a huge fan of Davey. This video is tremendous and well put together, it really gives someone like me who unfortunately never got to experience him racing while he was alive the chance to appreciate how much of a determined, polite and skilled race car driver such as Davey was. Davey was my first favorite driver. He looked like my dad, and when he passed I was only 3 but I remember how sad I was. I had one of the New Bright r/c cars shown in the intro and I wear my new reproduction Davey shirt to the local track. Never forgotten!

First time watching this cried half way thru this I just turned 50 July my dad would take us to Talladega. I saw Davy when his first race and they came an instant fan. I believe I was like 12 years old and I was Allison fan, which I always grew up ford man! He was the greatest!!!
I grew up in Hueytown down the road from Donnie Allison’s shop. I met Bobby Donnie Davey , Red farmer Clifford Allison as a kid. From my house I could see Daveys place lit up for Christmas 🎄 every year. Great memories.

im from nc so we always went to a bunch of races growing up. i can remember as kid on top of truck in infield of tracks following him all the way around the track.
What an amazing piece!! I remember going to the dollar store the day after his death and seeing cardboard in the windows saying that they were sold out of davey matchbox style cars. The gravity of the situation was lost on me as I was only 7 at the time.
Jesus. 2 1/2 hours!? Good thing I'm a truck driver and can play this in the background. It'll be something interesting to listen to while I'm working.

Still remember the news article from the paper when he died. Cause, well... that's how we still got our news in 1993, outside of TV news. hah. It was hard to believe. Especially after losing Alan barely any time before it. Great video. Watched it all the way through. It filled plenty of gaps of information I didn't even realize, and also reminded me even more about how good he was. I remember by the end of 92 thinking....man this guy wins too much. lol

This video is really well done. So many moments and special people in it. Great to see all of these announcers and especially all of the drivers again. It's a tearjerker of course, but worth every moment. We were very fortunate to have watched Davey back in the day. He was a one of a kind.

Davey Allison was a great driver and a great person. He was taken so early in my NASCAR fan years that I still never got to see his true talents behind the wheel. I got a Racing Champions diecast of his 2 weeks before his passing. After his death I always wondered what kind of driver he could have become. I remember telling my mother these exact words "He didn't deserve to die".
The Waddell story about BobbY Allison #28 Pontiac was very cool. I was under the assumption that Bobby also had something to do with the choice of that particular car! Nascar ended up outlawing that car after that 500! Amazing stories! Love it! Thank again!

Only twice in my life have I seen the Alabama Interstate shut down where everyone pulled to the side of the road and put thier hats over thier hearts was for Bear Bryant and the Allison familly because both those families did a lot for the state and thier sports. May they all rest in heaven and never be forgotten.
These documentarys are incredible. Very well done sir. I really appreciate these, I suffer from severe ptsd and use these to help me sleep at night (make no mistake though i was wide awake the first listen through)
I was 7 years old then Alan and Davey died and I remember it vividly. I believe its where I first learned about death and never coming back.
I proudly have a hat and my business card autographed by Davey at his win at Talladega in 1987. I’m a helicopter 🚁 pilot and when he was killed in a helicopter 🚁 crash in 1993 at Talladega it was heartbreaking. I’ve not worn that hat since but preserve it for the memories of my days flying Channel 13 in Birmingham to the races in Talladega and Atlanta in 1988. R.I.P. brother.
