    Commenting on your vids for the first time - great choice, and an amazing band - sadly no longer a working unit. Steven Wilson has been doing his own thing for quite a few albums now, but I have to say, some of his stuff is even better than Porcupine Tree, and the assembled cast of musicians he uses are truly stellar. So, stick with Porcupine Tree for a bit, explore the Opeth connection (you already listened to Deliverance which Steven Wilson produced), maybe dip your toe into recent Pineapple Thief to see where Gavin Harrison (drummer - arguably in the top 3 drummers in the world) moved onto.... but absolutely DO make sure you visit Steven Wilson's solo work - The Raven That Refused To Sing, Luminal, Home Invasion Regret 9, Refuge, Hand Cannot Erase.... the list is too great. Just enjoy the trip :)

Definitely going to dive into more of Stevens work for sure. And David Harrison is absolutely phenomenal. • @HollowGolem
    @HollowGolem 4 роки тому +6

    Fun fact: That guitar solo a little past 4 minutes in is by Alex Lifeson of Rush.
    Wilson basically turns everything he touches to gold. He's got a new album coming out in a couple months and I'm a fan of the songs he's released so far ("Personal Shopper," "Eminent Sleaze," and "King Ghost"). Has a sort of Depeche Mode style industrial pop sound to it. His _Hand Cannot Erase_ and _Raven that Refused to Sing_ albums are also spectacular.
    Gavin Harrison, the drummer, has toured with King Crimson and is a member of the Pineapple Thief, another great outfit worth checking out.

      My recommendations are the albums and concerts since Gavin Harrison(drums) joined in 2002- In Absentia, Deadwing, Fear Of A Blank Planet(and its Nil Recurring outtake EP), and The Incident. The Concerts DVD's are Arriving Somewhere(Chicago), Anesthetize(Tillburg) and Octane Twisted. They put it out mostly as a live album from Radio City Music Hall, but there are videos from The Incident live. If you do that, watch in succession the four concept songs in a row-of Zero Degree Of Liberty, Octane Twisted, The Seance, and Circle of Manias

    First time I saw Porcupine Tree was 2002 in Philly. They opened for Yes. I had never heard of them, didn't even know there was an opening act. They were already performing when I arrived. I had 5th row, center stage seats. I was mesmerized and I was blown away. I didn't even want Yes to come out. I could've listened to PT all night. Next day I started my PT collection. This band was started by Steven Wilson writing and performing all the music. It was version of Spinal Tap. When he was signed and told he had to start touring, he had to put a band together. Unfortunately, he broke the band up about 2010 and went solo. He's an amazing song writer, musician, and producer. Quite a lot to check out in Porcupine Tree, his solo work (the band is also amazing), and his side projects No-Man and Blackfield.

    Go to 11:07. Dylan gets punched in the face with a killer drum sequence. Totally blind sided. Absolutely priceless.

    OK, y'all, I'm a pretty big Porcupine Tree fan. I got into them several years back and their albums 'In Absentia' and 'Deadwing' were commonly played in my car during high school. So, let me give you a quick list of recommends from the band's entire discography, and I'll try to explain what/why each song is good. Porcupine Tree has albums going back into the 90s and they're still active today, and there are a whole lot of songs to sort through.
    Early on they had more of an experimental thing going on, especially themed around altered perception. From their 1991 album, 'On the Sunday of Life,' you'll wanna hear "Radioactive Toy" and "Nine Cats" at the very least. "And the Swallows Dance Above the Sun" gets a good amount of play too.
    Next there was a double album. 93's 'Up the Downstair' and 94's 'Staircase Infinities' is almost like one long, but controlled, acid trip presented in musical form. You really need to experience about the first 14 minutes of 'Up the Downstair' if you wanna get a taste of what's in these two albums.
    The next several albums I haven't listened to myself enough to feel like any kind of authority, but there are seven albums after 'The Sky Moves Sideways,' which itself is not bad but again is a longer format work. You might give "The Sky Moves Sideways Phase 1" a listen at some point, it's very dreamy.
    Then, in 2002, they did 'In Absentia,' and came into much more relatively mainstream success with this shift in tone. I'd recommend both "Blackest Eyes" and "Trains" off this album for a good sense of how it's shifted. "The Sound of Muzak" is probably my favorite track off this album.
    05 was 'Deadwing,' another more mainstream-oriented work. However, the 12-minute "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" has some nice elements from their more experimental past, and is also a banger. "Open Car" is one y'all might like from then, too. "Lazarus" is very popular and beautiful but also very straightforward compared to most of the rest, featuring a strong piano melody with acoustic guitars.
    'Fear of a Blank Planet' came out in '07 and that's where "Anesthetize" came from. You got the best from that album.
    2009 they did 'The Incident,' which is more of a longer form work broken into smaller pieces, a nice kind of meeting of old and new styles. The feature song for me on this album is "Time Flies," right smack in the middle of the whole work.
    Hope that helped! Sorry if it was too much text, but I figure better to do more than not enough!
