I have two Allez Sprints! One to race and one to do group rides, because they are aluminum. I love both of the. I am running Di2 on both with Enve wheels and the Quarq power meter as well. And, nice long term update.
Aah Patrick Video! Good morning :)))) I also got a aluminium bike for racing. It's a really upgraded Giant Contend AR 1 in a relatively small size. I'm excited to test race it once the season starts.
@@PatrickLino dude, always appreciate some dialogue with you. The contend AR fits up to 40mm tyres, and it's geometry is virtually identical to the Open UP/UPPER (when comparing an contend in L to an UP in XL). It's also very similar to the cervelo aspero or 3t exploro racemax. So it's basically a gravel bike and a road bike in one package. I race on an fochs izalco max, but that bike is actually too large for me. So I really appreciate that the contend fits me better, and is more agile. Other than that: it's an alloy bike. I don't have to worry about frame cracks as much, and being a giant bike- it's a bargain. I got the bike for 2700€ including the SLR1 carbon wheelset and Terra Speed tyres. At 1600€ retail it's a good deal. I'm excited to throw in my Hyper 50s and push it a bit. Maybe I'll make a review video once summer comes.
Hi Patrick..love your channel..I am also, not white..I have a 2020 tarmac sl7. Love it, fast as hell..tubeless wheels now..looking for a backup bike to my tarmac, this might be it..thanks for review!
Great frame and bike set up....running similar set up, 1X on 50mm, Try running Specialized Turbo Cottons 28c on Latex tubes....you will notice a significant diff in performance. Huge Allez fan, have both Disc and Rim versions. Can't say enough about these frames.
Yes., they are a fast wheelset, but this year on my 2020 tarmac sl7, I've switched to tubeless, conti 5000 wheels. My times this year are at least as fast as last year. Some cases. Faster
Great Bike!! i have one Allez SPrint 2017. The Allez 2022 is not very racing like the previous one, i will keep my 2017 model. Safe Ride. Greetings from Brazil.
I have an allez sprint too, with dura ace (the 9000 series), except for the rear derailleur (ultegra rx) and 50mm carbon wheels from Prime (wiggle). I got my frame, fork and seatpost for 800 euros at a discount, the frame was in display at a storefront and the exposure to sunlight had decoloured slightly one side of the frame, but to be honest, the bike had a pink fade color scheme so it is not really noticeable. By the way, Specialized did not want to cover that under warranty in case someone reading this is in the same situation. To add some context, the frameset without the discount would have been "only" 1000 euros. First of all, I am extremely happy with the bike, i've had a few bikes and all of them require some sort of adaptation period, with this one, I got PR's on descenst that i've done literally hundreds of times on my first ride. But lets get to the price issue. I would recommend buying this bike as a frameset if you could get it for around 800-1100 euros, sorry for not speaking in dollars but i'm assuming a more or less 1:1 conversion rate. The problem is that, at least in Spain, the frameset is now listed at 1600€, and a complete bike with 105, Specialized shittiest crankset and wheels that are heavy as bricks goes for around 2300€-2600€. Personally I don't really know how they have the balls to justify that pricetag when you can get a Canyon ultimate specced with and ultegra rim brake groupset for exactly 2300€, or even a 105 specced ultimate for 1700€, almost the same price than the price of the allez frameset, both of which would weight at least 1kg less than any equally priced build you could get with the Allez. So no, even if it hurts me to say so because I really, REALLY like the bike, I would never consider buying it in 2021.
This is a fantastic breakdown. So I bought my frameset for retail price 9 months ago, from an authorized dealer on eBay. I was shocked nobody scooped it up before I did, as it was listed for at least a good week. In my opinion the only way to purchase an Allez Sprint is by way of frameset only. Sure it cost most in the long run to source individual components, but yeah man the default parts are heavy and garbage. I have a lot of content coming this month regarding carbon aero/race framesets. With the "Far East" direct to consumer brands continuing to put out better quality frames and customer experience, it's going to be difficult to justify an Allez Sprint. Except perhaps for the sake of a warranty. But in your case you didnt get one.
Really nice bike! I did have concerns about the Hypers so bought Scribe wheels. Can’t believe the handlebars are aluminium. I was looking at aero bars but don’t trust carbon bars.
Sure thing! Our team has been using Peregrine Bicycle Studio in West Loop for years. Super old school approach to bike fitting. No fancy machines, computers, or sensors. Just an experienced set of eyes and a few tools. I could not be happier.
Hi there! Both wheels are fantastic for their respective price. Customers who want and can afford Enve are not cross shopping with a wheel half the price. You can’t go wrong with either 👍🏾
They are great wheels, I have the 65’s as well. Can’t say enough about them! The 2023’s with the wider internal width will take it to the next level. One negative about the wheel is the aggressive hook’s within the wheels. I literally can’t get tires off the wheels. Drives me absolutely nuts
Certainly not the easiest wheel to mount tires on, and I run nothing my GP500s. I have found over time that if using the same set of tires, it becomes easier to mount/dismount them. I'm able to fix punctures on the side of the road with needing tire levers.
Have not ridden the CAAD13 before personally, but it is a popular choice here in Chicago for crit racing along with the Allez Sprint. The general consensus is when used for its intended purpose, you can't go wrong with either frame. Pick the one that fits your geometry...and/or can actually find for sale LoL
@@PatrickLino thanks ones again man. I’ve build an aluminum backup bike which I’m using these rainy days. It’s a little bit heavier than my full carbon of course. But I like the slightly heavy bike cuz it keeps momentum when it comes up to speed. I’m looking for a modern geometry and specs bike. Hi Patrick, I need your advice with rim vs disc for racing? I have the option of purchasing SW Tarmac Ultra light (rim) vs Allez Sprint Disc 2023, can the rim be set up to match disc? Reliable when set up right? Many thanks
The main advantages to disc brake (for racing) is they allow you to brake much later into the corners, and they perform better in wet weather. Also going to disc brakes means you'll be future proofing yourself for wheels and hydraulic groupsets. I love my 2022/23 Allez Sprint Disc. With that said, if none of those things are critical to you then get the SW Tarmac Ultra light for sure. It's going to be MUCH lighter and you can always buy a set of Winspace (1st Gen) Hypers in 50 or 65mm if you need more aero.
Nice, you never have calculated the difference in acceleration for two different wheelssets with diffrent weight? Pls do it, it's much more simpler than calculating the difference between oversized pullywheels and normal pullywheels... 👍🏻 Thanks for the review.
I have run 64mm mavics on my allez, 50mm yeoleo and recently 35mm super. Light carbons.... All on same tire, specialized turbo cotton on latex tubes. So far the best has been 50mm....but it's a tad twitchy in cross winds. Best all round I have found to be the 35s.great for climbing and descending. One area that gets overlooked are the hubs. In all cases I have been using Dt Swiss 240s. Best hub for perf, value and service ability.
