@@kavikwiseman6674 actually this is inaccurate. Gary had instrumental versions Grace and Mojo Pin and finished them with Jeff. That's only 2 of the songs and they were cowrote
This guitar part was actually written by Gary Lucas, taken from his original instrumental piece "Rise Up To Be". He and Jeff Buckley worked closely at the beginning of Buckley's career, and he donated this part and "Mojo Pin" to him. Buckley wrote lyrics to go with them, and voilà
I will say it again... you undoubtedly are the best guitar instructor on UA-cam. You go so much further in depth on the material then other people do. Most instructors just show you the chords maybe a lick or two, I really appreciate how you know so much from jimmy page to Stevie Ray to even Jeff Buckley. Very impressive work my friend.
This is so wonderful to play. Back when I heard it first in 1994, I was just dipping my toes in guitar waters and immediately I could hear Jeff’s chord voicings we’re something else. Especially in Grace it’s like a haunting foreboding of things to sadly come, an inescapable fate. ‘I feel them drown my name’ got a whole new, eerie meaning after his swimming accident.
thanks for this, friend. I've been struggling for the past couple of days to figure out a fingering for that intro riff that isn't clumsy as hell and finally thought to check youtube today. this video was extremely helpful.
Great tutorial - HOWEVER - one bit i would add is, on that Pre-chorus bit where he moves up the neck he is also playing the corresponding bass note i.e on the drop D string - fret 2 then 4 - 5 - 7 - 9 - 7. His is playing these with his middle finger. It can be seen on his performance of Grace on BBC Late Night Show
Carl I finally learned the damn bridge to this song lmao. I first "learned" it in high school. Yours is the first tutorial that popped up so you just taught me. I have no explanation as to why I waited this long. Gonna practice singing it now wish me luck lol.
Bravo et un grand merci pour ce tuto qui me permet aisément de reproduire et de m'amuser avec ma gratte c'est vraiment cool de partager ce savoir faire ; Encore merci !
I have trouble seeing which fingers are placed on which strings. Your video is helpful, but if your camera was at an even level with the fretboard and not at a lower angle, it would help a little. Still, great help on this. I want to sing it but gotta be able to play it.
Great track and good job. I (and maybe some other players) would find it beneficial if you would name the chords as you go along. Perhaps the key signature would be good too. Didn't hear one mention of any chord names! Cheerz
Did I miss something with the E string, during the intro its strummed from down to up, and not up to down like the other notes. Is that mentionned in this video ? this part is very important
My high E string broke on my electric guitar so I'm using my acoustic which has heavy .059 gauge strings and let's just say that's not the most ideal way to play this song. The song honestly isn't that hard especially because you explain it well the only thing that makes it a pain is my heavy gauge acoustic strings.
Yea he definitely should but the single just came out recently so yea? It might take a while for him to do it but I don't know if they are tabs for it now though
Can you do a video for Condition Critical by Quiet Riot? I know it's not going to get many views and not a lot of people will really care but hey, it's worth a try.
Fuck this. I'm struggling with the first fucking chord. My index can't bar for shit. Imagine the rest of the song 💀 Thanks Jeff and Gary but I hate you right now. *Update 8/14: Might be growing an ingrown fingernail and I'm deadass crying bc I can't barr lmfao
Can we all acknowledge Jeff’s incredible musicianship? His songs were clever, inventive and just worked. Miss you Jeff.
Jeff was Amazing, but Gary Lukas wrote many of those riffs on Jeff's Grace album.
@@kavikwiseman6674 but i mean cmon those lyrics alone💔

well.. thats why people are here trying learn it
Gary Lucas actually wrote the guitar part. Jeff wrote the melody and lyrics.
I love this riff. Jeff was an underrated guitarist.
fun fact, he modified it a bit but gary lucas came up with it actually. also, love either/or
i just discovered Jeff and i cant stop appreciating him

A lesson on So real by Jeff Buckley would be cool too
That would be great I don't think the intro sounds right on this
He plays the low e (dropped to d) string on that ascending/pre chorus part...... nice, quick and concise ✌️❤️🙏
thanks for this, friend. I've been struggling for the past couple of days to figure out a fingering for that intro riff that isn't clumsy as hell and finally thought to check youtube today. this video was extremely helpful.
The real problem is not playing it, the real problem is singing it XD
XDDDDDD
To me it's the complete opposite problem😳 you can play it while I sing if u want
hi Carl. really nice lesson. could you try also the last goodbye of Jeff Buckley? that is quite challenging but wonderful. Thanks. Bye

I would love to cover this Buckley song but if you can't sing like him with a several octave vocal range, you just sound silly.
