His phrasings were always so unique and immediately caught the ear. I've actually learned quite a lot just listening to him over the years, in regards to my approach to the guitar, and song-writing both. My wife Lindsay and I had a friend of ours perform his song, "So Real" at our wedding.
Yea totally mate, such an incredible singer, and a brilliant guitarist to boot. Grace is up in my top 5 fave albums for sure!
@@LetsPlayAll Likewise!
amazing as always, what amazes me when a lot of people talk about grace and maybe it's people who don't play guitar but its the lack of credit Jeff gets as a musician, he gets praise and rightly so for being an amazing song righter but I always fel people never truly give him his due as a guitarist, and lets just add to the fact that he's singing at the same time, almost always perfectly too (from the live recordings I've heard) a true loss that went far too soon. More Jeff Buckley is what I say
hear hear! i think he started out as a session guitarist didn't he? either way he was getting on for Jimmy Page levels of amazing chord voicings in tunes. Just immense!
Incredible lesson Matt
An amazing artist..RIP...
An amazing album
An amazing song
Was fortunate to see him in Sydney...
Voice of an Angel
oh wow would have loved to have seen him live!
This is unexpected! Grace is my desert island album! Would you consider making another video on Eternal life or Dream Brother?
One of mine too mate! We’ll get to them all eventually, if you’re in a hurry then Patreon best bet 🤘😀
Brilliant lesson! Always wanted to learn this one, cheers
You’re welcome man, enjoy!

Thank you so much. This is my favorite album of all time, And I’ve been playing an “easy mode” version that just….didn’t sound the same. You can hear that this is the real thing. Thank you!
You're very welcome! Thanks for the kind words too!
Thanks a lot. Very well explained.
Most welcome!
Thank you. Best lesson guitar for Grace
You're very welcome!
Absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for this tutorial! It's straight to the point and really simple to follow with the tabs too. It's really inspired me to give this a go :D haven't played guitar in years :')

Well explained.
That intro riff is such a Pinky twister!
Thanks Brandon!
Great lesson - subscribed 👍
Cheers! More Jeff coming in the next week or so 🤘😊
i found the 14th fret bar part quite confusingin other tutorials. thank you for covering it here in great detail
You're welcome mate and thanks so much for the kind feedback, glad you found the lesson useful!
Beautiful!
🤘😊
Thank you so much, I was struggling with the intro strumming pattern
Came here after reading about the track in the new Total Guitar mag, where Gary Lucas mentions there's 20 guitar tracks recorded on the track! Great lesson and video as always! Thanks
Thanks mate, haha wow that’s Siamese Dream levels of overdubs!
Very good!
Cheers Bill!
Merci ! une super chanson qu'on aimerais tous entendre en live, tuto parfait, grâce à vous, je la joue correctement! musicalement... bravo !
That intro is tricky with alternate picking... but sounds so much better... thanks nice vid! 😼👍
*Awesome* song. RIP
RIP indeed mate
You’ve got to do Vancouver man! Amazing lesson on this gem my man.
you're welcome amigo! i'll be doing more Buckley for sure!
I second the request. 'Vancouver' is such an amazing gem that is unknown to most, but once you know it, that melody is gonna be stuck with your for a while!
thanx very much
You’re welcome!
He Plays a 1983 fender telecaster 6 string, it has a unik sound among telecasters and was only made one year. It has a unik topleder bridge, and a wide freetboard, and has a fantastisk unik neck pickup. I am Lucky enough to have one, and it really has that buckley sound wibe.😊
Great video lesson.
In regards to that chord that ring out at the end of the intro, just place your thumb over the E A & D string and strum, while the notes ring pull back on the neck several times while holding the body to create that slight warble effect.
Check the actual Grace Video for more clarification
Crap I didn’t know you did grace! I found out about Buckley about 6 months ago and before that I was ( and still am ) a huge PearlJam fan . You do so many of my favourite bands/ artist. Your an awesome guy and very talented player
Thanks for the kind words Ben! So cool you've just discovered Jeff Buckley - that Grace album is in my top 10 all time for sure!
@@LetsPlayAll would you by any chance be able to do forget her by Jeff Buckley as a tutorial pleaseeeee or lover you should’ve come over? That would be really cool. No worry’s if your unable to. I know you’ve probably got a lot of other tutorials you’ve got planned
@@user-rs4zt3xk4c I’ll defo get to them eventually mate, Patreon best bet if you want them prioritised 😊🎸
@@LetsPlayAll I’ll have a look!
wow.. never would have imagined.. just been listening to the live at sin-e album for the past week and learning mojo pin by ear.. well done.. thanks..! 👍🎸
btw.. i also thought it was a 12string..but ithink it's his regular tele and the light reflection that shows the steing twice.. i mean.. if u watch hia bbc performance...but perhaps im wrong
you're welcome and you're absolutely right, i was corrected haha it's just the mirror pickguard!
tricky one, especially the right hand too (in this case). Maybe you should have explained how to strum the strings, they re not played from up to down, some strings are played down to up (I dont know if you understand) especially the intro, the E string. and this is what makes this song great. I tried to play it with the tabs, I did, but it didn't sound good . So thanx to this video it will be good now :)
Gary Lucas wrote the instrumental track for this. I’ve wondered what would they would have produced if Jeff had continued to work with him
Jeff’s Telecaster was actually a 6 string. His chrome/mirror pickguard gave the illusion of a 12 string.
Ahh yes so it is!! Thanks for the correction. Some lucky person has it in their collection now by the looks 😊 www.mattsguitar.shop/en/matts-collection/fender-telecaster-1983-jeff-buckley
@@LetsPlayAll Matt Bellamy, of the band Muse, bought it.
@@MojoPin1983 wow that’s nuts. I wonder what it went for.
@@MojoPin1983 interesting! Thought it’d be a little pricy 😀
Myles Kennedy will know!
You can close the channel now.. Impossible to be better than this :) Massive thanks really... all your musical choices are spot on and leave me floored.. Impressive really.. Greetings from Portugal :)
Nuno.
haha thanks Nuno I really appreciate the kind words mate! :-)
Absolutely brilliant lesson. How did you get the clean tone? What were the amp
settings and any pedals? Also any ideas how he got that amazing clean sound for Grace when played live like in the Chicago concert video? There’s so much warmth and sustain - it sounds like the guitar is ‘singing’ 😊
Thanks mate, pretty sure I just used my amp clean for this, sorry was a while ago and I’ve started putting how I get the tones at the beginning of each vid now. Will have to check out the live tone 🤘😊
@@LetsPlayAll Thank you! Yeah, please do check it out - it’s an amazing show and he’s at the peak of his career.
More from Grace please!!!!!!!!
Gotcha Allan!
Legend mate! If you have time could you please add "j'en connais pas la fin" on the list. His rendition has such beautiful melodic phrasings!
I’m not sure I’ve heard that! Will check it out 🤘
@@LetsPlayAll Its so mesmerizing ahaha
@@jamesxu7582 😀🤘
Thank for the great lessons , I was just wondering what gauge strings you used for this lesson , thank you.
I think these are 9s
@@LetsPlayAll thank you for replying and for the great lessons.
@@Bevrinton you’re welcome mate! Glad they’re of use 😊🤘
Totally boss!!
🤘😀
Amazing singer and songwriter passed away too early
agreed Andrea!
Please do all of the grace album thanks
Oh we will eventually mate! Love this album
Sounds cool. I'm going to have to listen to some Jeff Buckley. This is the first I heard of him.
BTW, have you done tutorials with tabs for riff #1 Say Hello to Heaven & #3 Hunger Strike (Intro) from the "Temple Of The Dog - Top 10 Riffs" video?
Yes mate and more check out my playlists if you’re searching for stuff - ua-cam.com/play/PLLJomVjCOvkhXkRvU80-n0bzp4FkAGKfP.html

@@MojoPin1983 I'll check it out.
Don't forget to mention Gary Lucas!
The bridge part but how does Jeff do it in the live a sin-è version. Because he starts off with that and I think that’s the best version of the bridge
not sure on that version mate, not familiar with it
I’m pretty sure in the intro, Fm - Gm - E.
To end the riff he plays an E5 with his thumb, letting the other strings ring open
Thanks Ryan will check that out!
Jeff played the Middle 8 interlude without his index finger on the D string. The rest of the chord shape is correct. It sounds much better and correct with just the bar shape on all of the strings and the pinky finger on the G string.
Awesome thanks for the info mate!
@@LetsPlayAll Sorry, I meant to say that Jeff didn't place his *ring* (not index) finger on the D string. He just barred all the strings (with his index, of course) and had his pinky on the G string.
@@MojoPin1983 cool, do you mean for the verse?
@@LetsPlayAll No, the final interlude, starting around the 16:08 mark of the video. You have the correct chord shape, just don’t fret D string with your index finger. In other words: remove your ring finger from the chord, entirely. It should be played like this (first chord):
e 1
B 1
G 3
D 1
A 1
D 1
Keep the same shape as you ascend and descend the fretboard throughout the interlude.
@@MojoPin1983 ahh gotcha! Will give that a go thanks mate
Hey Brother I have a Big favor to ask you .... When you get time , could you please consider the solo of Like Suicide by none other than SoundGarden ... on the album version , it begins at the 4:31 mark ..til the end of the song ... To me , I think it’s the Baddest solo ever ...
Hey Jake, don’t worry we’ll get to them all eventually mate! If you’re in a hurry patreon’s best bet 🤘😊
@@LetsPlayAll I’m still waiting on that MLB you was talking about about a month ago
I don’t THINK it’s a 12 string. I thought the same from a few videos but I think the scratch plate was just quite mirrored and created that illusion. Maybe just the reverb and chorus gives it that sound? Open to being wrong.
You’re right! Someone else pointed out it’s a mirrored scratch plate 😊🤘
i cant bar those 3 strings on the first fret, first fret is hard to bar :(
How did you manage to cut this one down to 18 minutes 🤭
haha i heavily edited myself :-)
I've learnt little wing and this is literally 100x harder
Haha really!? Must admit I’ve never learnt little wing, one for the list!
Forget her...😭
