Can You Catch SHINY RAYQUAZA in a LUXURY BALL?

- Want to see my full analysis of the Luxury Ball and how you can go about capturing this elusive Shiny Rayquaza? Head on over to the main channel @TheGameCubicle.
The Luxury Ball was extremely rare in the third generation of Pokémon. It would take you an absurd amount of time to get yourself enough Luxury Balls to have any chance of capturing a legendary Pokémon in one.
This is unfortunate since shiny Rayquaza is perfectly color coordinated with the Luxury Ball. Are you up to the challenge?

snorlax becomes floating device. They see him floatin, they hatin.

snorlax can learn surf

Catching Pokémon based on Poké Ball color coordination: Galaxy Brain
Then there's always what my masochistic ass did as a kid. Catching Groudon with a nest ball, for some reason (in Emerald). I liked the effect, I guess. It took so many tries to succeed.
I still like pokeballs cause it wasn't later in anime that they added other balls
To this day I will never forget being in the backseat with an old friend, he was playing Ruby when they were still new… he made it to Groudon. We jokingly said “let’s throw a pokeball” and caught it first move, first throw, full hp, full odds. We just sat there stunned. Never happened again.
There is a Japanese UA-camr called Suzuki Kenzo who actually caught it using the luxury ball. He played 10 (or 16) copies of the game simultaneously, failed two times due to Rayquaza’s PP depletion, and used more than 100 balls to catch it. He eventually managed to balance the recoil of struggle and healing effect by Soothe Bell to ensure that Rayquaza don’t feint.
Did he use trick to give the rayquaza a soothe bell?

I feel like the lux ball should have been stronger than ultra ball
Agreed. Strange it’s only as powerful as a normal Poké ball
Atleast let it be a superball or something or else it literally does the same thing as a friend ball
It should have been 2.5x Catch Rate or atleast 2x cause it sounds like a cooler ultra ball
@@Doritos...The luxury ball makes friendship grow faster, while the friend Ball gives you a one-time friendship increase on catch. The luxury ball is technically better if you want max friendship, but if you're just going for a friendship Evo, the friend ball works fine.
@@jj209th6 Huh i didnt knew the difference, thats insteresting i guess

Just use the clone glitch with the one you found on the floor. Then proceed with sub, spore, bulk up, false swipe breloom. Sleep on first turn, sub second, bulk up third, at high enough level you'll leave Ray at one, sleep when it goes for outrage to avoid confusion but mostly at low health it will go for rest because of idiotic AI. Rinse and repeat until caught and there you go fellas. Unlimited Luxury Balls and a nice shiny Ray inside of one :)
rayquaza can self damage though, how would you counter it's confusion?
@@fusyoduh9721spore doesn't miss, so put it to sleep before it can hurt itself
Breloom has effect spore in gen 3. That'll kill the shiny on the wakeup turn with poison.
@@nobodyimportant4778 Effect spore isn't guaranteed to proc and if it does it's only 1/3 that it will poison. It also can't proc if your substitute takes the hit.
@@nobodyimportant4778 considering the incredibly good strat we are talking about, if for some reason rayquaza gets poisoned like you said (it wont bc of reasons the other comment stated) just reset your game and try again. You wont get past the second try lmao
Hold up. I had no idea that luxury balls were as effective as poke balls. I caught half of the area zero returning legendaries in luxury balls...
f
I caught all the Ultrabeasts in regular Pokeballs, and Necrozma in a Beast Ball for my Pokemon Sun playthrough.
That’s 0.1x catch rate for all of them.
Yeah, every ball that isn't a beasball is 0.1x with ultrabeasts, so you could've used any non-masterball for that catch rate. Makes non beastball ultrabeasts really cool to have
I did the same but with Premier Balls, that also have the same capture ratio as a Pokeball. The ratio of the legendaries or paradox Pokemon is a joke now
@@Chronoflationyeah i've also seen people do it the other way around catching regular pokemon with beast balls
The reason that there are so few shiny rayquazas is because they were hunted down for their skin to make these luxury balls.
I mean... I did it.
I threw my only Luxury Ball at a shiny Rayquaza as a joke... AND IT WORKED!!

@@domivl94 so technical, do you feel good about yourself knowing you just made the world a better place?
I would use a Slowbro and Skill Swap Own Tempo to Rayquaza so it cannot get confused by Outrage.
Was about to reply with this as well.
I went into the battle with rayquza forgetting to buy any balls. All I had was one premier ball. Guess who owns all their legendary pokemon in premier balls now.
There's also the cloning tech in the battle tower if you want more luxury balls
Im super glad my younger self’s brain noticed the color match on the luxury ball and Shiny Rayquaza when they found a shiny in Ultra Moon.
well, in a 3rd generation pokemon game, it's called Pokemon Quetzal, so I was going to catch a shiny rayquaza with the luxury ball, it came out shiny and when I threw the pokeball at it, I caught it the first time it came out shiny, It was epic
I have an idea of a team to make the fight slightly easier and the odds slightly better, but I’m not really sure if it would work.
Step 1) Have an Insomnia Pokemon use Skill Swap to prevent resting. Hypno would work for this.
Step 2) Paralyze the Rayquaza. Thunder Wave would be easiest for this, which most Electric types can learn.
Step 3) Switch into a Shedinja with False Swipes and Protect (to block when Rayquaza uses fly, which is the only move that can affect Shedinja).
Step 4) Get the Rayquaza to 1 HP and start throwing balls.
There’s a trade off between being able to lower Rayquaza’s health and having to use paralysis instead of sleep. Paralysis only provides half the benefit of sleep, but lowered HP can provide up to 3x the catch rate, so theoretically, this method’s catch rate is 1.5x better at best. It is also better because the yawn method would have one turn without sleep applied after each yawn, whereas paralysis would never go away.
The only issue is that I’m not sure how Outrage would act when the Pokemon is immune in gen 3. Since Fairy type doesn’t exist yet, it isn’t a common scenario. It’s possible that Rayquaza would still get confused, which would make this strategy fairly useless. Shedinja may still be a good pick, but without a way to prevent the confusion/self damage, it’s not really better than the snorlaxes. Regardless, Rayquaza would still be a ticking time bomb, since it will start struggling after it runs out of PP, though paralysis would help stall that a bit longer.
If it were a newer generation, there are other tools that could help, such as skill swapping Rayquaza the harvest ability and tricking Rayquaza a leppa berry to prevent running out of PP. You could also use a persim berry to prevent confusion and some other method (such as heal block, imprison, or taunt) to prevent healing via rest, though since luxury balls are much easier to obtain in later generations, making the fight last longer is probably more important than increasing catch rate.
For some reason ever since Gen 7, I would get a shiny Rayquaza in each game.
It's one of those weird reoccurring shinys that everybody has.
My shiny Rayquaza IS in a luxury ball, caught it first try
Cap
Cap
I've watched a french streamer doing exactly this a few years ago. He drained rayquaza's pp and then gave it leftovers. He abused the weak recoil damage from struggle in gen 3 to keep rayquaza alive and threw balls until captured
The ratata effort team first, makes him fall to 1hp by only sacrificing one 😂
I always thought once they're our pokemon and have some friendship built up, we should be able to switch out their pokeball
I caught one's weather trio in normal pokeballs, never again 💀
Used over 100 balls and had to start over there
I remember throwing like 40+ ultra balls at Groudon in emerald and they all did nothing so I threw a normal pokeball at it just for the hell of it, and it caught it first try
I also caught Kyogre with a net ball
I have a shiny rayquaza in a luxury ball. I used RNG manipulation for it. I had to try a couple of times.
For people who don't know, you cannot encounter a shiny pokemon by soft resetting in Emerald. The battery thinks it's always empty so the RNG is always the same everytime you boot it. You have to either run away and encounter it over and over OR RNG manipulate.
I chose the latter and I am making him a ribbon master alongside a shiny Giratina in a luxury ball, shiny kirlia (also in a luxury ball) and a shiny shaymin in a nest ball.
In my experience, I caught the ralts first and then used sleep talk and rest to grind contest to pretty decent success. It was time consuming though.
Level 100 smeargle with spore, trick, false swipe and swords dance/flash + leftovers. Get 12 X speeds + 12 X defenses and 12 X attacks if you got flash instead of swords dance. You’re also gonna need like 30 leppa berries lol.
Put Rayquaza to sleep on the first turn then spam X items (speeds -> defense -> attack) and keep putting Rayquaza back to sleep when it wakes up. Once you reach max stat buffs, spam flash until Rayquaza is -6 accuracy. Use false swipe to get him to 1hp and spam balls until you catch him or has 1 pp left. Use trick to give him the leftovers and keep throwing balls until you hopefully catch it. I’d recommend around 250 just to be safe.
I didn’t realize Luxury Balls even existed in Gen III. I thought they were introduced in Gen IV.
I would lead with 6 pokemon with prankster ability and the moves disable (for the outrage), yawn, false swipe and heal pulse (to prevent it from killing itself via confusion or struggling) 😂
Prankster and heal pulse in gen 3?
Sighs*, unlocks cheat codes🗿
Never encountered a shiny rayquaiza in Emerald, but did get the vanilla one in a luxury ball.
It's always painful because visually luxury is my favorite, I love the gold and red accents with the black base color. Also shiny Rayquaza is my favorite shiny legendary
I caught Groudon in a premiere ball once. For the longest I was convincing myself it had a better chance until I was an adult and read it was the same as a pokeball.
Crazy party is I ran through all the Ultra, Great, and pokeballs I had on me and it was all I had left.
Shiny rayquaza x luxary ball might be the best flex combo ever
Back in gen 3, I captured Rayquaza in full health with a pokeball after it used rest lol
Caught my shiny rayquaza in a premier ball
Still impressed I caught Emerald Rayquaza with a regular Pokeball as the 3rd one thrown.
as a child i caught my rayquaza in a luxury ball, as i had forgot to stock up and struggled so much biking up the tower that i didn't dare leave until i got him. i only had the one from the boat, so i soft reset for hours.
The way he said it was gonna be hard but caught it turn 2
When I was a kid I figured that i can just save the game before a legendary and catch them with whatever number of pokeballs that I had. If I run out of balls the first time, I’d just restart the game and try again. Once catch Ho-oh back in gen 2 with two pokeballs… I just had to restart the game 20 times 😂
The funny thing about this is when i got lucky enough to get a shiny Rayquaza i just threw a pokeball for the funny and caught it first try without needing to lower hp or put it to sleep best believe i was screaming in joy unfortunately wasnt able to record it
yesterday? Sleep isn't always the best. They can wake up and still kill themselves or struggle to death. My go to was paralysis and a pokemon with disable/cursed body to take outrage out of the equation
I always loved trying to color coordinate my pokemon to the right colored pokemon. Except the ones I didn't care much for like ones I caught just to fill my dex
i know im late, but just use the cloning glitch in the battle frontier, and get as many as you want
Try being chaotic with the Pokémon team and see where that goes
Yes, first, get either a Scyther, Sceptile or Zangoose. All 3 Pokemon learn False Swipe naturally and are exceptionally fast. Getting Snorlax to use Yawn is a fantastic idea, but Body Slam also has a decent chance of causing paralysis. The most important thing is to get a status effect that won’t cause damage. Actually, this is where Electrode or Jolteon would work as well, exceedingly fast and can learn a paralyzing move.
I didn't even know you could capture legendaries at full health 😂😂😂
good thing raquaza has the best catch rate of most legendaries.
You're gonna need an ungodly amount of luxury balls to do so, so at least around 400 contests for a 95% chance, let's say 500, because you want to be safe since it's a full odds gen 3 shiny rayquaza, about 5 mins per contest, x 500 total contests is 2500 minutes, or a little under 2 days of non-stop grinding, if you win every single contest that is. That's quite the hunt.
now we need some1 do do all thaat
What u mean by full odds? is gen 3 somehow special?
Yea after a certain gen i forget which the odds of encountering shiny went from 1/8888 or something crazy like that to 1/1300@@ethosterros9430
@@ethosterros9430 i think it's the old shiny odds (1/8192), shiny odds in newer generations is 1/4096 by default and can be increased
I cloned the luxury balls in emerald to get like 400 and then I'm pretty sure I paralyzed my shiny rayquaza, debuffed its attack, and used an iron defenced registeel to make damage dealt by its inevitable struggle down to 1, then just kept lobbing luxury balls until it stuck.
Yes. Can and did. Took a hot minute but I still have that shiny Rayquaza and it's still in that luxury ball.
As a kid I wasted my master ball on a Tornadus so I decided to use Luxury balls for Reshiram 😂
Cover legendaries starting I believe Gen 4 have a boosted catch rate, so you made the right move there
since i catch all my legendaries in luxury or premium balls i can tell you: yes, you can.
One day I decided, "wouldn't it be funny if I just captured it with a regular ball first turn" and... it did....
Personally, you should be able to transfer pokemon from their pokeball to a customized pokeball using a special machine (customized as in, the pokeball is just a normal pokeball but it just looks fancy and stuff)
For those who are unaware, there is an NPC by the name of "Selhpy" I believe it is who is unlocked in the FireRed/LeafGreen post game. She will ask to see a certain pokemon and when shown the requested Pokemon she will give you a luxury ball (the pokemon requested are derived from the Pokemon registered as "Seen" and if you don't have her requested Pokemon you can walk around to reset her request)
Anyone else ever run out of ultra balls and then randomly catch a legendary with a normal Pokeball you threw for the heck of it?
That normal pokeball housing my mewtwo was a point of PRIDE for me.
Maybe they’ll add pokeball swapping to future games or something. They could also add dyeing or other customisations to Pokéballs if players want to colour match them
Thinking about it, it would be interesting to have a tweaked version of Destiny Bond that prevents enemies from KO-ing themselves. Something like "Mortal Enemy" or something - you can only take damage from the enemy mon, but you both faint at the same time.
Luxury balls are all I try I use tbh
I did that until I decided I like the net and dive balls better. Dive ball does nothing on land, so it's usually the same as a Pokeball for me, but it's prettier
Hey you caught it at the end of the short, which is cool.
Ethan the kinda guy to say “bad morning” when he’s in a foul mood
*Nokimon* caught Shiny Rayquaza with a Luxury Ball with ease in BD
That is so bizarre. I remember having a lot of Luxury balls in gen 3, I didn’t realize how rare they were.
The only thing that I could think of that might be more effective would be to have a few bug Pokemon with sleep Spore, stun Spore, and other similar moves/ abilities. Yawn is dangerous in many cases because the longer the fight goes on especially when they have more than one turn to use moves the more likely it is to either KO itself through confusion or run out of PP. Either way Yawn also does not have the same length of sleep time as other moves. These were things unique to Ruby/Sapphire/emerald. Though not not completely unique to all series.
In generation 4 I caught a heatran with luxury balls by using a smeargle with spore, recover, and trick which held a leppa berry. I weakened the heatran into the red and lowered its attack and special attack with a random crobat. I eventually caught it after over 100 balls used. Looking back I could have also used heal pulse with smeargle but oh well
I just kinda did it in USUM. Rayquaza's catch rate in those games is crazy high for some reason ( maybe they forgot to change it from ORAS?) and you can buy as many Luxury Balls as you like!
Are the legendaries in USUM not shiny locked? I always thought they were and just skipped them, lol
@@Chronoflation none of the wormhole legendaries are shiny locked

Fire red was my first Pokémon game, I remember I thought moltres was the only legendary in the game so I used the master ball on it. After much pain, I was able to somehow catch mewtwo in a regular poke ball
This sounds insane lol
Using the battle frontier duplication glitch makes this much much easier get 1 snorlax and 1 lux ball. Duplicate 500-1000 lux balls and 5 more snorlax

Prenez un galeking (aggron) avec Iron wall et relais, puis spammez Iron wall avant d'user relais et amener un ninjask false swipe, Stun spore and X10 défense. Then you have Rayquaza
I remember the time I tried to get a shiny Quaza. It took me like 4 hours during 5 days. When it showed up I forgot Sharpedo's rough skin 😭
I don't think I'm remembering this right, but there was another way of getting a Luxury ball in RSE. You would go to a shop in one town in the game, buy 10x regular poke balls, and the shop clerk would give you a Luxury ball for free.
That's what I did and I had like 40x Luxury balls in my Pokemon Ruby game. I can't remember which shop and which town it was in the game though.
Vanderturf town sells them in omega ruby and alpha sapphire.
When you buy ten pokeballs in regular ruby/sapphire/emerald you get premier balls
Imagine, as a kid I did something I called, the Pokeball challenge
I only allowed my self to use Pokeball catch rate balls to catch ANY Pokemon
Dynamax adventures made the luxury ball shiny rayquaza way easier thankfully
If you have one of those emulator game systems, you can simply save right before throwing the pokeball and load the save every time it breaks till the ball eventually catches the Pokemon.
you had to steal them
it sounds like a task for RNG manipulation.
shiny groudon with luxury ball is insane
I used RNG manipulation to catch my Rayquaza. There was another Pokémon I wanted to get all the ribbons on and Rayquaza can’t enter the battle facilities that cause the most trouble and I already had everything set up to reencounter within a few minutes at most if I failed so I decided to pick him up for the journey. I named him Slyfer.
That’s how I know I sucked at pokemon lmao didn’t even know this was a thing
I capture all my legendaries in luxury balls nowadays. It was easy asf in Sword&Shield because you could get a 100% catch rate for legendaries when you did the dungeon thing in the snow tundra area.
Level 100 Smeargle with imprison outrage spore and false swipe
Whenever I catch legendaries, I always throw a pokeball to see if I could one shot it the first time I see it and my first time one shot catch was a Normal Rayquaza in OrAs.
I had a shiny rayquaza in a luxury ball, just smeargled it. I had imprison and rest and outrage to keep it from resting and hurting itself, and stun spore to keep it from moving. I cloned my luxury balls with the battle frontier PC glitch...if anyone remembers that lol
Level 1 ratata with a focus sash, moves endeavour, then the rest of the team is snorlax
spite on rest, hypnosis, drop attck stat and accuraccy stat so outrage misses and recoil becomes less of a issue reduce hp to half and procceed to chuck balls.
Emerald's cloning glitch is also great for this.
Ray also isn't shiny locked in HGSS, so try a Heavy Ball, too.
Thank Arceus for the Emerald cloning glitch 🙏
crazy part is my rayquaza in a luxury ball😂
My all time favourite pokeball design
aside from the run running at 5fps sometimes, great run! will have a lot of fun beating this :3
Idk if these moves are in emerald but bringing a Pokémon with rest/imprison/false swipe/trick/lum berry with a shit ton of X attacks would be perfect to deny heal, at least protect rayray from 1 outrage confusion and bring it low enough to kill
That sounds like an absolute nightmare
The outrage is definitely the scariest one and in gen 3 there are no fairy types to cancel that move out
But honestly, if im hunting rayquaza in gen 3 i would just masterball it.
Intersting Story: I somehow caught a Zacian in a Luxury Ball first try. I went on to do my rounds with Quick Ball grinding out Zacian just to say I caught him in one turn, but during one of my attempts I accidentally threw a Luxury Ball (because they're both close to each other in the menus), and miraculously it actually hit, so in addition to saying I caught him in one turn, I can also say I caught him with the stupidest odds imaginable, because to my knowledge, Gen 8 Luxury Balls are slightly worse than regular Pokeballs, making them the lowest on-average odds of ever catching Pokemon in them, let-alone Legendaries.
I should pick up Sword and Shield again sometime, that Game was fun 😊
