“Poor Luke was playing the ukulele faster than he had ever played it before. He was out of breath and his arms hurt him, but he had to go on. ‘I shall never be the same again,’ he thought sadly. ‘My arms will be quite worn out.’ ” It was worth it! Great job! :D
As a childhood Thomas fanatic listening through refined adult ears, the runaway theme is a perfect composition I can wax lyrical about. The escalating panic of those opening high notes, the frantic pace throughout, the despair of the main melody, the little fills and riffs that act like gasps and short breaths, and the ominous key changes throughout. And yeah, this is a top notch rendition!
The whole show is a masterpiece when you think about it. Large scale train set, terrain, special effects, and a unique soundtrack that stays true to the time period they portraying. And then add Ringo Star to the 1st season.
Pretty impressed. You always know some shit is about to go down when this music starts. Also impressive to think how they built an entire upscaled train set, terrain, and special effects to film everything.
DUCK PUT EVERY OUNCE OF WEIGHT AND STEAM AGAINST THE TRUCKS! They felt his strength AND SURGED FORWARDS! “ON ON ON ON ON ON!” the last coach passed the platform. “ITS TOO LATE!” He cried. And shut his eyes. He felt a sudden swerve and slid shuddering and groaning along a siding.
“The trucks chance had come...” “Hurrah! Hurrah!” “They laughed and banging their buffers they pushed James down the hill.” “ON ON ON!” “Yelled the trucks.” *”Ive got to stop! Ive got to stop!”* “Groaned James...”
"Hurry Duck hurry!" Said the driver. They raced through Edward's station, but the cars were catching up. "As fast as we can, then they'll catch us gradually," he said. The driver was gaining control. "Another clear mile and we'll do it." "Oh glory! Look at that!" James was just pulling out on their line from the station ahead, any minute there could be a crash. "It's up to you now Duck." Cried the driver. Duck put every ounce of weight and steam against the cars. "It's too late!" Duck groaned. He veered into a siding where a barber had set up shop, he was shaving a customer. The silly cars had knocked the conductor off of his van and left him far behind, after he had whistle the warning, but the cars didn't care they were feeling very pleased with themselves.
Lively. As. Sin. Also I for one could never have foreseen how well a ukelele would gel with the music style of classic Thomas. This is nothing short of delightful.
Yay cannot wait for this! This music always gave me chills as a child. “Another clear mile and we'll do it. Oh, glory, look at that!” James was just pulling out on they're line through the station ahead. Any minute, there could be a crash! “It's up to you now, Duck.” Could you do Rusty’s theme next?? ❤️
I’m honestly quite afraid if you’ll be actually alive after this Luke lol. Though I am extremely excited, I’d love to see you try at Spencer’s theme or Murdoch’s theme. they’re already good as is but you just make these themes better and better.
"I hear music!" said Duck's driver "But we haven't an assemble!" replied duck. "HORRORS!" said Duck as a brakevan full of clones of Luke playing the runaway theme are going 50 MPH right to him!
When I think about how much effort goes into these and the lengths you've gone to in making these, not to mention how frequently you've made them, I am just in disbelief! You are truly incredible! A one man Orchestra! (Also a lovely dancer) I really can't express just how in awe I am over this amazing amount of work. I can't wait to hear what you do next! P.S. I really look forward to getting a vol. 3 of this!!
That piccolo playing is so good! Really evokes a sense of urgency. As does the uke, surprisingly. Also love how all of the wind instruments make this mournful train whistle sound at the end. Such a great arrangement!
I can't wait to hear your arrangement of the runaway theme! I like all the versions, but I think the versions using the William Tell Overture are particularly recognisable, especially since it brings back fond memories of episodes like The Runaway Elephant, Rheneas and the Roller Coaster, Busy Going Backwards, as well as Thomas the Jet Engine, just to name a few.
1:04 key change and tone shift of facing adversity 1:12 this is Edward we're talking about, of course he's going to pull through despite the adversity 1:24 it doesn't matter that James get the "triumphant" title, this you just feel like its an even better feel-good win
Another wonderful grand adaptation that I have to say I probably struggled the most with. I think the arrangement is absolutely tops and what it gives me is the sense of ridiculous comedy that these runaway scenes can yield (the Ukulele gives me panicked Banjo Kazooie or Silent era film vibes). However that raw, primal nostalgic core memory of being absolutely terrified as a wee babe watching these runaway scenes overpower my want to appreciate these unique twist. So emotionally I want to be terrified by this music and the opposite emotion is elicited. I think this fantastically brave and it’s more about me as a listener and my own personal agenda than your fabulous work. But it gives me a great appreciation for how challenging it is for an artist to interpret a work, meet audience expectations but also put their own stamp. Keep it up!!
Totally! I think you hit the nail on the head with what I was going for. It's serious situations for the characters... but it's also adults running model trains out of control and filming the whole thing. It's nice to thematically break the 4th wall sometimes 😂

This is amazing. Great job. Also carry on the story If you know the RWS version. And Carry it on with the *RWS version.* Duck loved coasting down the hill, running easily with the wind whistling past. He hummed a little tune. Suddenly they heard a guards whistle. “That sounds like a guards whistle, but we haven’t a guard.” The driver heard it too and looked back. “HURRY DUCK HURRY, THERE’S BEEN A BRAKE-AWAY AND SOME TRUCKS ARE CHASING US!”
One of my favorite episodes with this theme was “Old Iron”. It was always fun seeing the high-speed chase with Edward’s driver trying to attach a rope onto James to slow him down. I always remember the line “it swayed and lurched” with the rope swinging around James’ buffers! You made a really great rendition the theme 👍👍
i am curious of which style version of the runaway theme you have done the version i liked the most was the episode close shave when Duck tries to stop a runaway freight train before ending up crashing into a barber shop

Gotta admit, when i think of the runaway theme i dont think "ukulele & Sax" ( honestly I dont think Ive EVER put those two in a sentence together)but you made that WORK! When that Ukulele picks up it does the job wonderfully. The 100 MPH Ukulue was worth it and i thank your bruised hands

"'Steady, Edward!' called his driver. The inspector stood on Edward's front holding a noose of rope in the crook of the shunter's pole. He was trying to slip it over James' buffer."
The more I listen to this, the more appreciation I have for your hard work. But yeah, you looked tired towards the end of the fast part on the ukulele. I bet you were glad when you got to the slower final notes. And if you had the opportunity to redo this you probably would have asked a ukulele player to do that part. Also, everyone remembers Toby nearly drowning in a waterfall but no one talks about how close to death he was in Toby's Tightrope. One snap of those rails and he would have washed down the ravine. It's a good thing Mavis showed up when she did before it had the chance to.
Pretty good, this is a really interesting take, a little more relaxing, but at the same time more intense. I think it’s the Alto Clarinet that does it, as it sound both calm and frightened at the same time
I really hope the next one is either the Harold vs Percy race theme or the Harbor theme. Those are two songs I really enjoy. Also, James: "What shall I do? I can't stop! Help! Help!"
Love the growing intensity in this, arguably my favourite track from the whole classic series. Also, just realised that the sand blocks/shakers on all of your covers remind me a lot of the steam engines puffing along. Feels very fitting and, to me sets the tempo and rhythm for each track. Intentional or not, really nice.
