I recntly purchased this product based on your recommendation and didnt realize that it contains dmdm hydantoin as a preservative. This ingredient is a formaldehyde releaser and is considered a safe however from what I have read it can cause contact dermatitis with repeated exposure but particularly in individuals who have sensitive skin or can cause reactions in those who have a known formaldehyde allergy. Hope u get answers
Kindly do but I've been using their Reconstructor and Two-Step Treatment for more than 7 years but I've never had any issues although those are rinse outs and I live in a highly hot and humid place and I use like biweekly for the reconstructor and every 4 months as regards to the Two-Step.
HI, IN THE 80'S, AND 90'S MY MOM OWNED AND OPERATED A SALON AND BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE. IT WAS 90'S THE PRODUCT CAME AND IT WAS USED FOR STRENGTHENING THE HAIR AND MADE THE HAIR HAIR, SO YOU HAD TO FOLLOW WITH A GOOD MOISTURIZER. HOWEVER ON THE FLIP SIDE SHE SAYS IT DRIED THE SCALP AND BROKE THE HAIR SO SHE STOPPED SELLING AND USING. WAY TO MANY CONS THAN PROS THOUGH THE PRODUCT WORKED GREAT ON SOME CLIENTS. YOUR HANDS LOOK AMAZING SO DOES YOUR FACE AND BEARD. THANK YOU LORD GOD 🔥
Dang, I just purchased the provitamin leave I'm conditioner because of your recommendation of that product. I'll probably be returning that one Lol. But very happy to hear that your hands are healing, Narada! ❤
I'm happy you figured out what the cause was. I know the pain myself. I broke out in hives and eczema for years before we could figure out what was triggering it. I'm happy your hands are doing better. ❤
I wonder if it’s Tetrasodium EDTA? I say that because this happened to me some years ago when I was using Eco Styler gel. Mine was on the back of my neck and some on my forehead. It was so bad my neck looked like it had scales, I was so embarrassed and couldn’t figure out what was causing it at first. It had gotten so bad doctors gave me steroid creams to stop it. The steroid cream worked but was very addicting to my skin and when I stopped using it felt like it was worse. I was able to get rid of the blemishes and scarring naturally with African black soap and shea butter and now you can’t even tell plus I rarely have flare ups. Tetrasodium EDTA ingredient is in a lot of products and can cause flare ups if you have eczema and psoriasis. Now I try to stay away from products with that in it and when I get to itching a lot of times that’s why. I hope this is what it is and that this is helpful trust I know the struggle it’s so exhausting. I know you’re much better with researching ingredients than I am but once I looked into it and eliminated my usage of products with that it helped tremendously so I really hope this is helpful.
I was watching Dr. Dray, a dermatologist on UA-cam and she had a video about DMDM hydantoin. She said in the video that it's a lot of hairdressers that become allergic to this ingredient due to long term exposure.
Thank you for this! I stopped using the curlific after you were mentioning it might be the cause and I noticed recently that my scalp hasn’t been super itchy and my hands are not irritated or dried out for no reason at all (usually too much washing or cold weather irritates or dries out my skin overall). In the past I had problems with dry scalp and hands but I think the leave in intensified the effects
Dang Narada! If my memory serves me well (it’s questionable most times 🤦🏾♀️), you liked using the Aphogee leave-in conditioner if it’s the liquid you’re talking about. I am happy though your hands are healing. You’ve been a warrior though pushing through the flare ups. To quote you, “be blessed”. ❤
@@AfrikanHairGodIt’s crazy how that happens out of nowhere. In my late 20s I developed an allergy to lipstick due to the waxes in them (specifically developed contact dermatitis) after wearing lipstick literally everyday since my teens.. We’re talking about 15 yrs. Allergies truly can start to happen whenever no matter the length of exposure. And when our body has had enough, it lets us know.
This is going to sound bizarre but for the last maybe year or so, only one of my hands have started getting small blisters and bumps. They’re itchy only in the beginning and then the itch goes away but it stays on my right hand only for weeks. I did buy those two products you mentioned and now it has me wanting to test if stopping those would help my hand. I’m gonna test it and see bc I’ve literally changed nothing in my routine except for those two leave ins.
A dermatologist from Canada recommends fasting from hair and body products to find out what is causing the breakout. I had to do it too with the eczema on my neck. Happy your finally getting relief.
I hope your healing continues. My Aunt is sensitive to many products on the market, including natural ones and as a result she gets all kinds of skin irritation. Another friend of a friend can't use most personal care or haircare due to allergies and so many products having coconut derivatives. Even allergies to natural products are becoming an issue.
The pro vitamin leave in made my daughter’s hair very manageable but she did say her “hair” was itchy more often. 🤔 I stopped using it after we ran out but didn’t think anything of it. Makes me wonder now, my poor baby lol.
We’re any of your clients experiencing the same side effects? Also in your cancellation of the product, did you do anything else that might’ve stoped the outbreak?
I had the exact same thing happen to me. I thought I was allergic to the gloves I was using. Nope. It was this product.i had severe itchy and it actually cracked my skin on my knuckle open. So I stopped using it and it’s healing up pretty nice.
I am so happy you found the source of your skin inflammation. I can’t imagine how painful and frustrating this has been for you. May you have continued healing and good health. 🙌🏾❤️
While exploring new products, are you mainly looking at drug store level or professional as well? Im so glad your skin is healing, i know that was frustrating to deal with. Im excited to see what you find that works next!
OMG.. I have been binge watching your videos since last night this one explains exactly why my hands AND scalp are inflamed and itching when I haven't had this issue before. THANK YOU for dropping all of this knowledge ❤
I suffer from eczema that tends to create blisters as well which can easily become infected, so I completely understand the emotional toll that a constant breakout can bring. I am happy you have found the irritating products and are healing. I've had a few breakouts caused by hair products and skincare products that were heavy on proteins so I have learned to be mindful of these. I don't avoid protein altogether, but I go for products with a low number of protein ingredients and lookout for the early signs of a breakout.
WoW! This sounds like you finally are going to know the reason for your break outs. I hope 🤞🏾 this is the break through you been looking for ❣️also love the glasses that blue trim suits you.
Thank you for your hand video. My 12y old son has been battling with this condition for about five years now and we have never got a diagnosis for but through your video. I’m able to present this to my doctor. I really appreciate it thank you thank you thank you. ua-cam.com/users/shortsD1H9bhNelPM?si=1CeC-3ecmNWVXg1-
As someone who has had eczema there entire life, I honestly feel like any products with fragrance will give me a reaction. Unfortunately 98% of product have fragrance and the ones that don’t aren’t for kinky hair types 😢
I bought that leave in on your recommendation. I recently noticed a place on my hand. It's taking a long time to completely clear. I wonder if it's the product.
I have the same issue when I do my children's hair. I use Cantu then switched to mielle and it still happens. The blisters are painful and not pleasing to the eye. I can't figure out which chemical it is. I'm only using Shea butter and blue magic and it's been fine.
Thank you soo much for this update! I don’t have any itchy reaction with the leave in but the 2 step protein treatment makes my scalp itch soo bad. Pls what new liquid leave in do you recommend now?
I'm not out of the woods just yet. I still don't know what I'm allergic to so I don't want to start bouncing from product to product and risk another flare up. When I am able to I will explore and share my recommendations when I'm ready.
I LOVE your glasses!!! 😮😮😮 sorry about the hand flair ups but yeaaa it most def sounds like a reaction ! And you may have a client that’s allergic to it as well so it may not be sensitive skin friendly
I am so happy you were able to narrow down what was causing the issues. I am so annoyed because I keep getting notifications days of hours after you upload. Very weird
Congratulations on finding out what was causing your skin issues! I remember your early lives when you were navigating this! Happy healing 💕 The curlific one reminds me a bit of the taliah waajid bodifier, but I’m excited to see what you replace the provitamin with!
Hi Narada. I was watching a very small UA-cam channel named Mcnissie Charlotte. The young lady is Uganda. You’re reaching the far corners of the earth. She mentioned your name in her “1st time clarifying my natural hair “ video from about 9 months ago. Recommending an affordable product that works.
Now that you mention it, last year l used the leave in and my dandruff got so bad but at the time I thought it was due to stress i was diagnosed with mild adult eczema 2years ago😮
Oh wow!!! That’s crazy that the answer was low key (not even just smack there) the whole time!!!! I’m glad you figured it out. Thank goodness. How do you feel?
I've definitely felt sensitivity/itching using the Green Tea Keratin spray from Aphogee when it would touch my scalp! I try to use it only the lengths of my hair when I do.
I stopped using aphogee years ago [ I'm 61yo now ]. This product had madey hair hair and brittle. It made my scalp.itch sooo bad during that one time use. I never used it again. I'm do glad that you are healing😊
I'm happy for you! I'm glad that you were finally able to figure out what it was. Wishing you a complete recovery❤ and I hope you'll be able to find an alternative that works for you with no allergic reaction
So glad you found the source. I love the protein treatment from Apoghee. I use Scurl as my moisturizer because it is the best. I don't use those other products.
Oh my god rada. I have gotten those blisters on my hands since using based on your high recommendation. This is disconcerting. But thanks for letting us know damn
Which leave in do you currently use for yourself and clients? I’ve had to cut the Aphogee because it was making my scalp itch.
I don't want to share that yet. I still can't explore products like I want to because I don't want to risk another reaction
Mane Choice, Mielle, Ouai are pretty good. Sometimes Redken
I noticed that too that it made my dandruff worse. I thought it was just me.
@@desirebostice1196 nah not just you. Something is up with the product.
I have been using a solid oatmeal and honey shampoo bar...huge difference.
That aphogee has completely changed my hair care and manageability so I’m gonna stick beside her BUT I’m so glad your hands are healing!!!!

That's a blessing you found where it was coming from. I know that's a relief the blisters are gone.
Yes it is. I didn't realize just how much it was affecting my anxiety and emotional health
