- Syracuse (/ˈsɪrəkjuːz, ˈsɛr-, -kjuːs/ SIRR-ə-kewz, SERR-, -kewss) is a city in and the county seat of Onondaga County, New York, United States. It is the fifth-most populous city in the state of New York following New York City, Buffalo, Yonkers, and Rochester.
At the 2020 census, the city's population was 148,620 and its metropolitan area had a population of 662,057. It is the economic and educational hub of Central New York, a region with over one million inhabitants. Syracuse is also well-provided with convention sites, with a downtown convention complex. Syracuse was named after the classical Greek city Syracuse (Siracusa in Italian), a city on the eastern coast of the Italian island of Sicily.
Historically, the city has functioned as a major crossroads over the last two centuries, first between the Erie Canal and its branch canals, then of the railway network. Today, Syracuse is at the intersection of Interstates 81 and 90. Its airport is the largest in the Central New York region.
Syracuse is home to Syracuse University, SUNY Upstate Medical University, SUNY ESF, and Le Moyne College.

What time of day was this? What day of the weeks was this on?
Hmmm, had to be late afternoon on a Sunday...hence no traffic at all.
@@tracyannes thank you
A hollowed out rust belt city. More crime than I could ever recall.
Same here, I've been here for 20 years and I'll be leaving early in the new year. Crime is getting worse, and everything is getting more expensive, no reason to stay. I'll miss Pastabilities, Columbus Bakery, The Blarney Stone and a few other places, but they're not enough to get me to stay here.
@@Nothing-zw3ydhow safe is it living downtown and walking around (single lady)?
Ah yes, the Syracuse I've lived in for the past 20 years. Full of empty storefronts and aggressive panhandlers.
Have you moved? If so where to? How safe is it to live and walk around the downtown?
I grew up in Syracuse and left in 1997. I haven't lived there since. The taxes and absurd laws against self-defense are enough to keep me away. It is a travesty that NYC and the way that it votes has pretty much left Syracuse screwed. Get a government that wants to reduce the cost of doing business and do away with burdensome regulations. Then business will want to move there and everything will improve.
