I was born (1957) and raised in suburban Syracuse during its peak years. SO many fond memories of those days growing up... Heid's hot dogs & coneys in the summer, the DeWitt and Lakeshore Drive-ins, the annual Scottish Games at Onondaga Lake Park, my dad's love of SU football, watching The Magic Toy Shop as a little kid, Mike Price as "Baron Daemon", watching Monster Movie Matinee on Saturday afternoons, my 1st Rock concert in '72 (Grand Funk) and my 2nd in '73 (Jethro Tull) at the War Memorial Aud, hanging out on Marshall St. as a teen eating at Cosmo's Pizza and King David's, attending the summer movie series outside in the SU quad, buying records at Gerber's Music in Shoppingtown Mall, purchasing my 1st serious stereo equipment in '75 at Gordon Electronics on Erie Blvd, dancing at Uncle Sam's, the Lost Horizon, and the Machine Shop, watching bands perform at The Boardwalk in N. Syr, my first 2 yrs of college at OCC, and of course my family, relatives, and best friends. I left Syracuse in 1978 to complete my degree at Buffalo State College, and permanently stayed in Buffalo, 46+ years now. I haven't been back to visit in Syracuse for nearly a decade now, but it will always hold a very warm and special place in my heart. It was such a wonderful time and place to spend my delopmental years! Thank you for this lovely video about the history of my old hometown.

I lived in Liverpool 1969-1982, graduated from SUNY Potsdam, before enlisting in the USN . I believe my heart would break if I came back and saw what is no longer there... looted down to the bedrock by now. A HEID'S mixed double and a root beer would be nice, though.
You left out the Syracuse Nationals NBA team. They became national champions, the shot clock was invented by their owner and GM, and they later became the Philadelphia 76ers.
I know I know - years ago I did a whole video about the basketball team on a different channel. I had to be brief with pretty much everything, unfortunately. Anyway, thanks for watching

I have native American roots ( why I am always called chief )! From grandmother ( great) looking back with the surrounding Italy within myself pioneer homes , mulberry square 💛🧡 1954-1986! Shoe makers 1898- 1905 great grandfather . Moved my great grandmother to Syracuse , new . For being drunk and biting off a (pointing ) finger of a rookie officer . I live lake point drive in Georgia .
I love the history of Syracuse and I love the scenery and some of the spots that you can get to, but unfortunately, this place is on a steady decline and you can just see it constantly. I just moved out of state and came back after being gone for two years and it is just so nasty, I really hope that the city cleans itself up, but I don’t see that happening sadly.
7:35 that was General Electric's "Electronics Park" plant. That was where GE built their TV tubes. Lockheed Martin is there now.

James Geddes should have been given his due… salt pioneer, road builder, Erie Canal engineer, surveyor, laid out the village of Salina, oversaw the selling of the lots that became Syracuse… he was even an adopted Onondaga. (honestly, Joshua Forman is overrated…)

A war was fought and the Settlers won. You can always give all your stuff to the surviving Native Americans, maybe we will be impressed by it, and do it also.
