Hi Sally. I'm a 50 year old Irish gal living, teaching and training in Germany for a 74 km ultra run called the Rennsteig in Thuringia. It's not so easier to train for, as Leipzig, where I live, is pretty flat. Discovering your podcast and videos has been a godsend for powering up and down the couple of man-made hills here and I have taken all your wise words to heart for my long runs. Your laugh is infectious, your message wonderful. Maybe also having lost my mum to cancer and having a 17 year old daughter who likes ear piercings as much as yours looks to, it just feels like I am listening to a friend with whom I have a lot in common when you talk about family and life generally. I used to be a xc runner in highschool but then got insecure abt my body comparing myself to all the other runners since I am pretty short and does not look like a typical runner. I had an Ed and go on to injure myself badly and dropped out of the eventuality sport cuz I had no energy to keep up. But I recently came back to running and specifically trail running after fixing my relationship with food( still a working progress rn) bc of ur videos! I just ran my first 10 miles today and signed up for a race which I thought I was never able to do ever again a few month ago. I couldn’t say enough thank u for inspiring me and im now looking forward to running everyday again thanks to ur videos
I have been loving this series, it’s been so inspirational to me as I’m training for my first ultra. You radiate positivity and joy and you are going to kill it in your races this year! Also, I love to see the support in your family, such a blessing and that requires hard work as well. You are amazing, keep up the great work!
Sally, this video could not have come at a better time… I am running my first half marathon tomorrow, and I am excited and terrified, and I am so inspired by your words. You said that you just want to finish knowing that you’ve done everything that you needed to do and that’s how I feel. I am going to run this thing and get it done!

Great video!I appreciate that you point out that balance is generally unattainable if you have a high priority goal. Best we can do is accept that priorities will shift from period to period. And also that lower back muscles 😮, I have me a new training goal

You have changed my mindset working out. I love how you are always trying to learn from a workout. This is great. I’m trying this and having fun again and not getting down when I don’t want to workout and it doesn’t go well. It’s all about learning. Good luck!

Watching this the day after you finished all 4 races this season and seeing how you really approached it with open heart and mind and took on every single challenge so well in those races! I laughed out loud when you said “so you’re going to interrupt my workout, that’s not my favorite.” That is EXACTLY how I feel when my husband does that. lol As always, love the advice that applies to both running and life. Happy taper heading into Cocodona!
