- Setzer tells the party about darill and his past with her. afterwards, the party get's the falcon, darills old airship, and from this point in the game you're free to do things in any order you wish, although a bird flying towards a town gives you a good idea where to go next.
I'm always surprised when people talk about top 10 moments in Final Fantasy games that this never seems to make the cut. When I first played the game, and after the cold realization that we had FAILED to save the world, and all the depressing music and dying animals (And suicide attempts!), then to find this legacy Setzer had hidden away, and that music to start as the Falcon rose from the water... Well, it was an incredible moment.
From the ashes, we rise again.
The energy that this scene transmits is awesome.
Can’t agree more... this scene is right up there just behind aerith’s death scene and cloud Harley scene, etc.
Very late, but the word for it is catharsis.
This scene is the only reason I want a FFVI remake
This scene is basically a metaphor for recovery from depression;
that moment when you have been living in a world that felt dark and hopeless, and then one day you have that amazing moment when you feel like a new person that is about to come back, and everything suddenly starts to feel hopeful again.

This is easily one of the best, most powerful moments in video game history.
Most of the surface of the Earth has been destroyed before your own eyes, an evil God is ruling the world, your friends are maybe dead and there is no hope anymore. Until badass master gambler sky pirate Setzer takes you to the Falcon. Shivers. No game ever came close to this imo.

This part literally made me shiver from top to bottom, right after that "Searching For Friends" started playing and I nearly cried. Holy shit I never got this feeling from a game, ever. By far the best game I've played.
I think the scene with the bird makes everything even more touching, since the bird kind of symbolizes that there is still hope for all life to survive.
Hey same here I always feel strange when I hear searching for friends play especially at this moment in the game. No moment in any other final fantasy game has ever even come close to this, best final fantasy game by far
nearly cried, when I was playing this last year, I actually cried when the Falcon rose.

I played it for the first time a few months ago. I got goosebumps the first time I saw it and I cry every time I rewatch this scene.
The sudden shift to "Searching for Friends" was so epic, it sends shivers down my spine everytime.
Darill will surely be happy, Setzer. She surely will.
I think what really gets me about this scene is that ultimately, what gives the world hope after all the destruction and horror that's been wrought upon it - is an act of love. Setzer reassembled and preserved an entire airship out of love for the woman who once flew it, and now that love gives the heroes a chance to fight back. Kefka dismisses such things as inconsequential and merely fleeting - but the Falcon flies high as a testament to what love can accomplish.

Goddamn, this scene! When that ship took off and was rising from the waters, my brothers and I were shouting with joy. Such a great moment.

FF6 is one of the top 5 video games ever. So much Heart and Emotion and Love. It nailed down what makes video games great in such a pure and emotional and visceral way.
When he said "The Falcon" and when that music started playing, I basically cried with emotional tears :')

For once, you feel hopeful. After what Kefka does to the lands. After (possibly) losing your father figure. After you see Celes JUMPS OFF OF A CLIFF. When the Falcon takes flight, you kinda forgot that happens and was like "You know what? Yeah, I can do this. I can beat the shit out of that stupid clown"

This part makes me weep as much as the first time. Setzer lost his Ultimate Lover but Saved the World because he kept Her Memory Intact.

Setzer is the clear proof of a man that hid his internal wounds with gambling, women and probably other stuff (alcohol, maybe?), because he lost the most important person in his life.
He just wanted to block the pain with superficial crap. Having his life ruined due to the end of the world but reuniting with his friends again gave him back the right direction to move forward and finally live his life.
After all, that's what Darryl would want from him.
Celes telling him that he fought with all his heart before the world fell to ruin is so good. She's speaking to that part of him that wants to be that person he once was. He refeives it, and it's a great scene.
The only reason 7 is better for people is because it was made on PS and had more dialogue because of the capabilities of that system.
When I saw this scene for the first time I felt a great rush of hope, it was so overwhelming and beautiful to go from a ruined world with sad music to riding an airship and listening to hopeful music.

Yeah, I actually like to think of the WoR part of the game as a recovery from depression;
the world itself can be considered a metaphor for depression, because depressed people feel like they have lost their old self and have a distorted and hopeless view of their lives, but they _will_ be able to recover if they get the right help.
And to me, The Falcon kind of symbolises the first step towards that recovery.
2:30 Its at this point I regard FF6 as #1 for me.
Much more optimism as the Falcon rises out of the water. From this point on, “Searching for Friends” becomes the overworld theme, replacing the depressing music at the beginning
The best moment of "renewed hope" in video game history, hands down. What a genius move by the team and Uematsu to make the decision to create a new musical piece for this moment in the game, which turned out to be a masterpiece. Almost 3 decades later, those of us who played this as kids, are still listening and in awe. Amazing.

Before this cutscene I didn't think Setzer (or Seltzr as I had named him) was a very good character. After this cutscene he was my favorite character.

Setzer never said the "I put it in storage" paragraph in the Japanese version. It is all Ted Woosley's idea, to set up the impact of "The Falcon" line that comes immediately after.
For reference, the Japanese version is:
"Because I cannot become the fastest man in the world after I lose my wings. I will have my dream again.
The Falcon."
If you look at the Ffvi advance script, although the translation is more accurate, the impact of the "falcon" line is lost because it is now part of another sentence, rather than having its own line in the center of the text box. The emphasis of how it's presented cannot be understated.
TL;DR - Please don't diss Ted Woosley's localization :)
I actually really enjoy Ted Woolsey's translation.
His funny one-liners and occasionally nonsensical style is much more entertaining than some "accurate" translation that slavishly translates each individual line exactly as it is in the Japanese version.
It's thanks to Ted Woolsey's ability to improvise and play around that we got epic lines like "Son of a submariner!" and "'Wait', he says... do I look like a waiter?"
Also, one common mistake especially among fan translators is that they love to abuse profanity, and those people would probably make Kefka say "Son of a bitch!" and have everyone else yell "fuck!" and "dammit!" everywhere, and that gets tiresome very quickly.
It did work in FF7 for Barret and Cid though, since those guys came off as tough and foul-mouthed types of persons in general.

I was 15 when I played this game.
I'm now 40 and I still tear up when I see the Falcon rising from the ocean and soaring to the sky.
That scene and that music are legendary !
When “Searching for Friends” kicks in you know things we’re about to get real. That song will forever be engraved into my memory.
This is honestly one of the most satisfying and emotional moments in any video game I've ever played. I just came to watch this scene for fun and now I'm crying, lol.

Gaining access to airship has always been one of the best parts in an FF game. This moment in VI is particular good because the music is just incredible.
I have always been a fan of non-linear gameplay in general, so it's always awesome to get access to an airship.
I have lots of fun already when I get the Blackjack in WoB for the first time, and can start flying around wherever I want. ♫
Great scene. Hated Setzer and thought he was boring when you first get him, but then after you see his back story you get a whole new outlook on him.
I think this is by far the best part of the entire game.
The concept of having to search characters around the entire world to defeat the antagonist is simple amazing. Best videogame ever.

Finding the Falcon, and learning about Setzer and Darill. And this music plays, one of the best. Gets you going, so sad. And you get that transition.

Coming from under the fucking sea, that was such an epic scene. Great payoff, the game could have ended then & there and let us imagine the rest; I would have been perfectly fine with that kind of ending.

When the music changes from Setzers feelings for Daryl to "Searching for Friends" I lose it. I can't help but weep tears of pure joy and hope. Hope for anything good.

FF6 needs a remake ASAP. What a emotional impact this scene has. And it's just a 16 bit game. It deserves a full restoration without a doubt. Just like original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on MSX :)
The original game music has more emotion to it than the pixel remastered versions.

broken....I had a copy, with the experience glitch...anyway, I was into recording games on cassette (except game fan, good luck finding soundtracks back then.) I never remembered to save around this part, but I'd. play all over just to reach this scene. Best ff yet, 4 2nd. 15? hit or miss.

It only just now occurs to me but...why in the hell would it come up out of the _Ocean?_
mass production, it's not going to be a myth.
Imagine this made with current technology.
The symbolism of the airship rising out of the waves, to give the world one last ray of hope in the darkest of despair is a purely cinematic moment. The orchestral score building as the ship picks up speed and rises from the dead as if it was the phoenix itself is easily a top 5 moment in final fantasy history.
I always personally preferred FF4's and FF5's gameplay to FF6, mainly due to the game just giving everyone magic, destroying any uniqueness in the characters combat wise, the Esper leveling system being almost completely broken, half the special abilities in the game being useless (Cyan's SwordTech's, Gau's random rage, many of Cyan's blitzes, Edgar's tools after the World of Balance) but the story was never a complaint. Thankfully the Brave New World Mod gave me the FF6 experience I had been hoping for.

This is why in my perspective 6 will always out run 7. The characters are memorable, music is outstanding for its console, and this character back story isn't over dramatic or anything. It's just 2 friends who made their own machine and challenged each other. And when his friend died, in a way, she has landed her hand to him to move on and live in the world that has ended in both the literal world and his own world when she died.
While I do consider FF6 to be slightly better than FF7, I would certainly not consider characters like Cloud, Tifa, Aeris and Sephiroth to be unmemorable - those guys are some of the most famous RPG characters of all time. =P

I love how Kefka turned from a regular guy soldier into a experiment accident villain who has overthrown the emperor and destroyed the world.

Just to add something that people wont read.
There is a huge thematic load to this payoff, from the looks of it Daryl was the better pilot of the two, thats why she flew farther and faster while Setzer knew he was the worst one and as such was more conservative, and that got her killed, now Setzer found a wreck, not a fully functioning ship, he restored it and then dug it a grave just to honor her memory, he could just have left it at that and sunk into his vices.
But its this act of love and rememberance that marks the turning of the tide, the world seems to be irreparably damaged, the heroes spread thin and scattered, the villian in an uncontested position the winning condition is no longer to save the world but to stop it from dying further.
The worldmap track is a dreary, dull ambience sound that screams that its all over, there cant be no victory against the power of god emperor kefka.
And then the song of searching for friends hits as Setzer takes Daryl´s legacy, here it is one last chance to make things right, one shot that she left us with... and for the first time in months the air is filled with whispers of hope.

This scene right here is exactly why I hate the way they portrayed Setzer in Kingdom Hearts 2. Not to mention he was the only character from 6 they bothered to add at all.
Fezworthington The only reason they bother adding him to KH is because he was created by Nomura. Anything Amano did cannot be put to KH with the exception of Vivi due to Huge amount of people pleading for him to be in it.

Final Fantasy 6 isn't the best game in the franchise. The story, the character arcs, all of it has been done better by other entries (and no open-world game has ever succeeded *because* it was open-world).
But there is nothing in the entirety of Final Fantasy as a series that comes close to FF6's *moments*.
Kind of a simplistic scene. "My love liked to go fast and died and now we get her airship". This scene was written by the guy who wrote the whole bad story of FF7, so no surprise.
There is so much hope in this scene... I couldn’t believe when the world was ruined, couldn’t believe that was the sad reality for those characters. Deaths, suicides, genocides... and then it came. Airship rises, “Searching for friends” kicks in and the birds guides them to hope. I will never forget those moments
