Please know that there is popping you will hear, I can’t do anything about that. I’m gonna get a new mic soon, and I’ll get a pop filter for that, so this problem should be gone next video. There are subtitles on, because default subtitles mess up some certain words and phrases.
@@ariankar98k I’m doing exactly that for the Blue Yeti mic I’m getting later this month. There’s no pop filter on phone mics as far as I’m aware. I’ll definitely get a pop filter soon.
@@midnightlycanfox6280 Thanks for the tip! I should be getting the mic before I work on my next video, so I shouldn’t have to worry, but I’ll make sure to keep that in mind.
though have you seen the outrageous upgrade it got in Megaman X Dive? the Speed reductions have been removed, got back his air dash, and not only has spike immunity, but also has immunity to getting crushed AND can walk on lava. and they super sized his Giga attack.
Yeah, the Dive stuff is great. It just makes the Gaea Armor even stronger than it already was, so it’s super powerful (from what I’ve seen of it at least)
It’s still slow it just gets a huuuge speed boost when it hits an enemy. Don’t know if it’s because of the starting speed or what but it feels like the speed boost you gain can make you go faster than other armors
If you're talking about Offline, I couldn't tell you. But while TW servers were still up, people messing with the game's condition tables were able to confirm that the run and I believe walk speeds were slower. There's also the fact that getting to boss doors in boss rushes was noticeably slower than other characters without a native speed boost.
Its design is pretty cool, looking very strong, sturdy and industrial (which pretty accurate to how it plays), plus the lack of special weapons isn't even that big of a deal with how powerful (and spammable) the Gaea Buster is.
@@jruler93 This is something people forget. The Gaea buster charges instantly, so if you have the auto-charge thing set you can spam it like the stored charge from X4.
@@weatherman1504 Well not quite "instantly", but it's only a matter of frames, just as quick as any other armor can spam half-charges (but the Gaea Armor has no half-charge, only basic shot and charge shot).
I think the biggest issue is just that you're so used to using the Flacon Armor with so much freedom of movement and suddenly you try the Gaea Armor and you just lose that. On top of that, you see your weapons and it's all empty after you've just got everything. It's not a bad armor by any means but it's definitely severely undertuned.
Even if you take the Falcon Armor's flight out of the equation; X, Zero, the Fourth Armor and Ultimate Armor can all be equipped with Hyper Dash to dash jump everywhere much faster than normal, which makes the Gaea Armor feel even slower by comparison than it would be to the base Dash speed.
To be fair, Capcom really gimped the Armor so much not even its supposed strength could save it. Its slow dash start up coupled by the cut in distance like with Hyper Dash part is bad because it only allowed X to push the V blocks if it allowed X to tank weak projectiles and kill small weak enemies it without taking damage and extremelly reduced damage against anything else then it would've beeen a good compromise. It may have the ability to erase small projectiles with its Max Charge Shot with a size of the Fourth/Ultimate Armor is situational due to its range being short. Its fast charge time is easily replicated by slapping a Quick Charge and damage at Max Charge is equal to other armors and by naked X with a buster plus. If it had bigger damage it would at least even out. To its credit though, like naked X it only triggers boss invincibilty on hit and it doesn't prolong it like unlike the Fourth/Ultimate that summons orbs and Falcon's Piercing prolonging the invincibility so the boss fights which works in its favor for boss fights.
@@dustintroydeguzman5411 If you're using the Buster on bosses in the PS1 MMX games, it's better to just spam out half charges anyway (except with the Stock Shot in X4). The Plasma Shot balls don't hit bosses for an extra tick of 1 damage in X5 like they did in X4, and the Falcon Armor's piercing shot doesn't extend I frames either. The Gaea Armor is good for bosses because it doesn't have a half charge, so you can do full charge damage at the same rate as half charge spam. But the movement speed is so slow that anything else will have already beaten the stage by the time Gaea gets to a boss.
What made it useless was how they overestimated this armor, they thought the immunity to spikes was so broken that they took away everything tha would made it fun to use
Honestly, playing through a huge chunk of X5 with the gaea armor gave me an appreciation for it and, as you said, it SHREDS boss fights if you know what you're doing.
The Gaea Armor may have been the prototype and precursor of all X's armor. While it is quite powerful and has high defensive quality, It was later improved and modified to make up for its distinct drawbacks thus creating X's armor series from it. Dr. Light himself says its a very old armor. And the crude and bulky look of it gives a prototype feel to it.
I admittedly did a double-take hearing the boss names... I actually kinda forgot their old Guns n Roses localization names got retconned in the Collection. ...Long live Duff McWhalen :P
Aside from needing the Falcon Armor to get the Gaea Armor the intended way, there's also the issue that the Falcon Armor is so busted by comparison: its arrow charge shot is deceptively powerful and it's one of the few projectiles that travel through terrain in X5, and you can use the Speedster part to double its flight speed. Its only real downside is that it can't charge special weapons. The lack of mobility and inability to equip parts are really what holds Gaea Armor back for me. I'm glad the X5 Improvement Project hack improved it by increasing the dash speed.
Honestly, the Shadow Armor is what the Gaea Armor wanted to be. X6 has many more spikes than X5, making the spike immunity more useful. You have normal run/dash speed, and are at a disadvantage at range with enemies directly in front of you. I enjoy using both though. Albeit I'd rather use base X over the Gaea Armor (usually).
The issue with the Shadow armor "It looks amaizing" because the only other good armor in the whole game is the Ultimate armor and how glitchy sabers are on that game.
I would disagree. The Shadow Armor is good but... it's not the Gaea Armor. Would be better in X6 with the spikes, though. As for the range, there's, IIRC, only one time where the range gave me issue, and it's fighting Necrobat.
@@RippahRooJizahof course shadow armor is better, on that armor parts actually work so u can use "jumper" to increase ur jump, "ultimate buster" to turn X in Zero literally, the "Quick buster" if u want charge speed not necesarily become a close combat character and so on. That helps a lot and makes the armor so versatile not just a heavy turtle 😄
@@chelinox4504 Of their general kits, I do like Gaea more, although I wish I could give it parts. And the only part I really wanted to give it is a better dash.
The Gaea Armors interactions with the Sigma/Zero Virus is worth mentioning though it isn't a likely chance people will get hit by them if they're aware. Otherwise aside from the Dash speed and somewhat "Limited Range" it still nukes everything like you said
Gaea charge shots on bosses are euphoric. The mobility lacks, if it were easier to get vanilla playthroughs without relying on Falcon first, it'd get as much love
Thanks for the video, this is my fave armor. I think it’s because the playing nature of megaman is to avoid enemy’s projectile, long range attack and move fast so that this armor gets hated. They have to know how to enjoy slow paced, close ranged attack, and powerful and fast charged works.
Not the worst armor, just the most disappointing. I'd love for X5 to have had an 'Ultimate Armor Code' for the normal armors. Taking them through all the normal stages without jumping through a lot of hoops would have been a fun idea for repeat playthroughs. Excellent coverage. Please do more armors.
Haven't finished the video yet, but what's really funny to me about this armor is that my first time beating sigma is with this armor, I was struggling before that point, so I have a soft spot in my heart for this armor.
The only useful thing I can say about the Gaea Armor like you said is destroying bosses. I use it in Zero Stage 1 to cheese the Shadow Devil. Sure, the Gaea Armor is frustrating to dodge the lasers in that stage and I can definetly understand why people wouldn't use the armor here. But heres the thing, X5 continues start you at the last checkpoint in the stage you're in, even after a Game Over. It's definetly difficult to pass the lasers, but once you do so, the Shadow Devil becomes an absolute cheese. Like you said, you can stay in the corner to completely skip an entire attack sequence and use the spammable charge shots to take out the devil. But hey, thats just my opinion, I like to use this armor sometimes, its pretty fun against bosses.
Gaea Armour has crazy good offense with the Gaea Shot being a level 1 shot. The speed reduction is also barely noticeable to me. It's there for sure, but it's not that bad. The major impediments are the lack of an air dash and special weapons. I don't understand why the Gaea Armour can't use weapons. The Gaea Buster is already balanced by its limited range. For me, I'd make it so that the Gaea Armour can throw out charged special weapons instantly, but it gets fewer uses of them than 4th armour and it can't use the uncharged versions.
Given the damage the Gaea armor can output it doesn't need boss weapons. It has an insanely fast charge, can destroy enemy shots, and doesn't cause invincibility on bosses. It's basically X's version of Zero's Dash Cancel Slash.
Here's how the GAEA Armor could have been better: 1) X5 should have let you carryover your unlockables to a new save file kind of like a New Game + similar to how X8 does it. 2) The GAEA Armor should have let you use the part system if they were going to restrict you from using Boss powers. 3) Make the armor have some kind of additional effect to it, like maybe completely remove knockback or reduce damage by 75%, or even give the giga attack a shorter charge bar or something than the Falcon. The reason why the Shadow Armor is a way better armor in X6 is because you could use the part system, the shurikens went pretty far as a projectile, you had a very strong charge attack with the saber, the giga attack reached both in front and behind, and you didn't have a speed penalty. A game that managed to catch how the GAEA armor should have been though, is 20XX with its Armatort Armor because in that game the head part makes health pickups grant you armor which is stronger bonus health, the arm parts have the projectile erasure effect, the leg parts have a pretty good hover effect, the chest part completely removes knockback, and if you have the full set together then you are made immune to all sorts of stage hazards, which makes you feel like you are an absolute tank which is the feeling the GAEA should have given.
@@joedoe617 Plenty of PS1 games did NG+, its as simple as an option to import certain stats to a new cycle, and frankly X5 coulda done with one to patch over how fucked up its Parts system is as well
@@syrelian I see. That being said, I think it is better to revamp the Parts system so it is more convenient and easier to understand to both beginner and experienced players.
@@joedoe617 Agreed, I much prefer how X6 handled Parts, tying them to a clear objective(save the idiots) instead of opaque background systems of Maverick Level and a blind split choice
Man. I remember when I first got this. Thought to myself "Spike immunity? My worst enemy has been conquered!" And never really noticed any of the downsides later. Doesn't help you get the armor so late that it's really not much. But the wall cling and spike immunity really were pretty good to me.
I think it's biggest problem was the timing, if I'm not wrong you can't get the gaea before getting the falcon, and when you get the falcon your already hooked on it's speed, but then you get the gaea, and for some reason you very slow, and you can't use weapons or upgrades, it has short range too, it gives quite an underwhelming first impression, and if usually people get the armor after they defeated all the 8 mavericks, so you have only the castle stages to try it out, so not only you have a bad first impression, but you have very little gameplay left to use it, cause all that's left is castle stages, and especially the first stage, gaea armor is the worst armor to use, cause of the 1 hit ko lasers, and that already makes you want to use the other armors or zero more, and at that point you might already hate the armor to even try the second stage, even though it's the best there, actually the best armor for all castles beside the first, it breaks bosses and has spike protection, good defense too, I'd say it might also be the best armor besides ultimate, if there was an ng+ or if you could get it sooner, it would be a great armor for almost all stages, kills all enemies easily, you have spike immunity, and have different ways to beat a stage.
I feel like the slow speed of the armor could've been fixed with a faster dash with slower recharge. This would be a quick burst move option that wouln't be spammable as it is with other armors/zero, and it would give you some nicer mobility for combat
@@chelinox4504 Shadow armor and Gaea armor have different niches though. Gaea armor is great for the spammable charge shot and Shadow armor is great for the crescent saber and the mobility. They're my favorite armors for each of the games they're in.
Thanks for the video... it feels very nice to see someone mention good things for the Gaea Armor I mean, Yeah, Gaea maybe could be better... but even just like that (with the Lore Saying it's a Prototype and Unfinished armor), with all that, Gaea is my Favorite Armor, tied on 1st Place with Giga Armor (X2) I love so much How Gaea Makes you Work with effort in order to Be Worth to it... i mean, Ultimate Armor is Allways the Easy path, but sometimes, Gaea is so Funny to use because you're the Killing Machine this time, and for first time, The Spikes don't hurt you >X3
I honestly argue that the main issue with the Gaea armor is the limitations and competing armors. Fourth armor is all around great, the falcon armor grants a massive amount of movement, and the ultimate armor is probably the best in the game. The others have movement options that the gaea doesn't have, which makes platforming [or avoiding sigma] harder. Not to mention, special abilities are half of the fun and even cover falcon's weakness of low damage.
Cool video man, I personally thought the Gaea armor was cool as a kid but I was too bad to really use it with how slow it was. If I play X5 again I might try to do a Gaea only run.
Saying first armor is the worst is a hot take tbh... one I totally agree with. I don't like its functionality nearly as much compared to every other armor, and visually its probably one of the weakest ones.
Legs do nothing now, Chest does nothing special, Helmet is extremely niche, Buster looks cool but isn't really useful... That being said, it was the starting point for all armors, and is perhaps the perfect foundation for things to come, based on that alone it's hard to call it the worst, even if the powercreep makes it looks weak
Yeah, in comparison to every armor that came after, the First Armor certainly does the least; but it laid the ground work that every armor after followed and expanded upon.
@@jruler93 Yeah but I wouldn't call it fun to use. Common argument is what the first armor did for the series, but I argue that the 2nd Armor does that far more effectively. X1 definitely has 'first game syndrome' especially in the dash physics, so by the dash becoming a signature part of his toolkit in X2 (what it should've been from the start), X's upgrades begin to feel more meaningful as it now feels like an actual upgrade, instead of just unlocking my controls.
What I always felt was the case with the first armor is that while it's obviously better than using X without it, I always saw it as being far and away the most basic armor in the series. It more or less acts as a basis to establish how exactly the armor upgrades X gets in the series will work moving forward, which I think is why it's abilities are so standard compared to the other armors that can be obtained in later games: because they were most likely intending to make a series of games, the only way they could realistically go from the first game is up, as otherwise, the armors would feel repetitive if they don't improve on what the first one you can get did in some way.
@@TheKorenji I would note that the legs _do_ (or at least I think they do... from memory I'm not sure if it's actually normally possible to check due to needing the dash to reach the only area I can remember it coming into play...) have a second function (that never returns regardless, also making it difficult to check): they make wall jumps able to break the blocks the helmet lets you break. Sure, it's both minor and can be used in all of three spots, (screwing around in the area with the helmet capsule, the passage to the buster capsule, and, the one time it's actually needed, to get get what my memory says is an E-tank in I _think_ the same area as the buster...) but it _is_ a thing they can do... (Yeah, my memory of the details is a bit spotty... I can still do all that, but describing it with _words/...)
I like the Gaea Armor's design and concept, and I appreciate it's combat capability, but the (lack of) speed is literally the only thing keeping me from enjoying playing with the Gaea Armor. In X5, I slap the Hyper Dash on almost everything and I dash jump everywhere (I put Speedster on the Falcon Armor and fly with it). So when I switch to the Gaea Armor and I see its reduced dash speed and have no way to improve it, it feels like X is limping around on a broken leg, which makes me want to use anything else ASAP.
I've done a couple runs with Gaea Armor only. Once you get used to it, it is fun to play with. It has difficulties doing stages due to the hit on thr dash mechanics so having less leeway for errors but it is fun to use against bosses. Frankly because its Charge shot is fast, and since boss invincibility is tied to how long you have to charge the buster to max it rips bosses fast. I've cleared bosses faster with Gaea compared to all other armors. I actually had the most fun playing with Gaea and Naked X when using X.
since X3 I been saiying "X series needs more than 4 bosses, because otherwise their gimmicks gets un-used". The ride armors on X3 are underused because once you get every single one is almost over. But this could been fixed with a New game + system. Allowing you start with every single upgrade on your fist run.
The problem with the Gaea Armor is that the slower dashing speed makes it impossible if you want to play the game and achieve the highest hunter rank - MMH/MEH (or UH, I forget the exact acronym). Getting those ranks require beating the stages really fast while avoiding taking damage, virus infections and NOT killing any enemies other than bosses.
Lol I loved this armor way more than the others because of the quick charge shots, made me feel so fucking powerful. Being marginally slower wasn't an issue, since the armor is bulky, I actually liked the touch of "realism" of X being slightly slower due to the increased weight.
I think the problem is the Falcon Armor is way too powerful. Maybe they could have balanced that if you got the Gaea Armor first (where the Falcon Armor was supposed to be) and then you had to use it to get the Falcon Armor pieces in the other stages. Heck, considering how you get the pieces in Pegasus and Roserade stages, I think that may have been the case at some point
I used Gaea armor all the time in X5. Loved it Increased resilience and a highly powerful buster shot...not to mention the Giga attack. This armor made taking out Sigmas final form easy... But...you had to be super precise with your jumps
I use Gaia Armor at the final stage to fight Gama-Sigma, it is a really useful armor to defeat Gama-Sigma by just climbing at the top left side of the wall and just STICKS there because it's part of the armors ability to stick on the wall and not slide down..And I just SPAM-CHARGE SHOOTING Gama-Sigma's gem to defeat him in just 10 seconds since the Gaia Armor X-buster upgrade is already at full charge shot as soon as you charge it, so I just keep spamming the charge shot at Sigma 😂 P.S. I also notice that the Wall-Dash jump doesn't decrease the speed in a Gaia Armor, so it is also easy to avoid Gama-Sigma's attack.
Not only do you have the Falcon armor give so much freedom only for Gaea armor to be the opposite of that, not only is it the fact that you get the armor pretty late in the game, but it's also the fact that it's one of the armors that doesn't add to X's abilities like a general upgrade with added features. The Gaea armor provides great strengths at the cost of changing some elements about X that you're otherwise used to, like his general dashing speed, long range and his energy weapons. I guess that's the reason why it's a controversial armor, since it's one of the few armors who dare to change / alter X's functions and gameplay for the sake of giving you uncontrolled power. More often than not, people will not like trade-offs when they could have an upgrade. Even so, the Gaea armor is still one of my favorite armors, I wish it got more love.
I actually love this armor. I use to play the ps1 version on emulator with codesharks that enable the armor at start and a second code that changes the tutorial stage into the boss rush stage with no healt upgrades, just plain charged shot.
I already played X5 again using Gaea Armor to beat the game and It's very powerful especially fighting the bosses as you mentioned. Gaea Armor Short Charge Shot is the best way to kill sigma (exlcude Ultimate Armor's Giga Attack) Revisiting Bosses is very easy except Spiral Pegasus. I tried to pass the zero stage 1 with Gaea Armor and it's possible... My conclusion is Gaea Armor is not the worst Armor. I think the same level as Shadow Armor
Gaea Armor is so cool. It felt so heavy and it really does like a heavy suit of armor that can actually protect you. Its Immunity towards Spikes is what makes me in love with it. Shadow Armor is just a better Gaea Armor, but its swiftness doesn't really give you the boss feeling of wearing a heavy suit of armor.
Back when I played Megaman X5, Gaea Armor is one of my favorite armor in terms of style and gameplay. I got used to the armor that I had to use it all the time to wreak havoc against bosses and spikes.
I feel like people just stick with the falcon armor since you get the whole set at the start of the game if you start as X, which you might as well since Zero is a crapshoot due to later game events. (Cough cough shuttle)
I think both in-universe and irl have explanations as to why the Gaea armor is underwhelming. In-universe, Dr. Light's message tells you it's just a prototype, so the underperformance is expected as such. Irl, you get it too late for it to matter compared to the other armors. And easy fix to that, and I think the developers didn't consider (or they did but then didn't implement it), is to switch the Falcon armor capsules for the Gaea armor capsules and vice-versa. That way, you get the Gaea Armor parts in the stages to the left, so you can complete it first to use it. Now it has a purpose and utility. Sure, you gotta change some minor details on the stages to the right to get the capsules for the Falcon armor (like in Spiral Pegasus stage for example), but it would feel fullfiling at the end of the game.
Yeah first time I got it back in the day and discovered it immune to spikes I thought it's cool and trying to play more stages with it, despite its slow speed I think it's a pretty good armor. It can't use special weapon but who needs it when you have Buster that broken, tearing through almost everything that isn't invulnerable with ease even bosses. Just don't use it in Zero stage 1, Quick Lasers is even more nightmarish than it already is.
I'm just gonna say it, this armor is not nearly as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. I forgot to do it during my playthrough, but if you use auto-charge thing that's in the collection, you can just rapidly fire the charge shot because it charges up instantly, which is basically like having an infinite version of the stored charge shot from X4 (which I honestly prefer over the plasma shot). Definitely an underrated armor.
Can someone finally make a mod of x5 that allows you to use zero boss / awakened powers it bothers me a lot that he is so weak when you play him and then as a boss he has those cool attacks, the charge shot would be cool to use 1 the normal you use in game then second level the charge shot he uses in the normal boss fight and finally when you charge long enough the shingetsurin. Also for the Messenkou could be charged and then Shin Messenkou like X charges his other weapons
For the normal sword beam you could charge the saber normally holding the attack button and for genmou zero giga attack their his hole moveset done was this really that hard Capcom?
I loved this armor I worked soo hard trying to to get this armor and it was soo useful my most hated armor was the falcon armor idk y but it sucks to me I rather be base x great vid btw ❤
PS1 names of these mavericks: Crescent Grizzly = Slash Grizzly Tidal Whale = Duff Mc'Whalen Volt Kraken = Squid Adler Shining Firefly = Izzy Glow Dark Necrobat = Dark Dizzy Spiral Pegasus = The Shiver Burn Dinorex = Mattrex Spike Rosered = Axel the Red
Beating the X4 armor much less the Falcon Armor was going to be tough. How do u beat armor that makes X invincible and gives him flight. Unfortunately a slow bulky armor like the Gaea isn't really what people want in an X game
Got confused when you said Crescent Grizzly and Tidal Whale - then remembered I played a version of game which called them Grizzly Slash & Duff McWhalen.
Gaea Armor isn't that bad, it's just that by the time and the hassle you gone through to get it, X or Zero are likely to be a lot stronger and well equipped that an armor that forces you to strip off all the parts solely for exchange for firepower and spike immunity does not seem worth the trade. It might be better if you are meant to get Gaea Armor first then use it to access Falcon Armor. That way, Gaea Armor doesn't seem like an armor solely for those items that are just placed somewhere to annoy/waste time for players.
That's crazy. I've played through this game dozens of times since I was a kid and I always thought this armor was terrible, but it does have quite a few advantages that I knew about but didn't value as heavily, and some that I didn't even realize. Cool video, I learned something about a game I thought I knew pretty much everything about lol. Maybe on my next playthrough I'll try to actually use the Gaea Armor for once.
There's a gameshark code that allows Gaia Armor to equip 12 upgrades simultaneously. Imagine equipping Hyper Dash, Speedster, Jumpster and Quick Charge. Quick Charge + low cd Gaia Charged Shot is much faster than U-Buster part
the problem of the gaea armor is that it competes with both the most mobile armor with the falcon, as well as the solid alrounder 4th armor. and you sacrifice air mobility, for immunity to spikes that sounds great, but all maps are already designed for you to not really have any problem even with base X. so it ends up being completely pointless, outside of 1 or 2 heart containers. so its not as much the case of it being bad, but more of it being pointless.
The main problem for me isn’t a functionality issue, though that’s certainly a big issue. No, the problem is that it fails at the most important thing an armor needs to accomplish; it’s just not fun to use. It has its uses, but it’s such a chore dealing with that awful movement, pathetic range, and no special weapons. Base, Falcon, and Ultimate X are just so much more fun
Now imagine if u could directly use the ultimate buster instead of charge like Shadow armor can or be able to use Jumper and super dash to improve mobility like shadow armor can 🤷
Huh interesting take on Gaea Armor. I never really thought much about it..., I just thought "eh different armor, quite unique" and never really think about how it's "bad". Makes me wanna replay X5 (the fan-fixed edition) And also I didn't know Dark hold can cheese those damn lasers dammit. I had to learn the pattern and died like hundreds of times there.
X5 kinda feels like it tried to add many cool concepts but did not implement them in the proper way. First of all, it was the first X title to hand the player a full armor instead of base X as previous, and on top of that, it was the Fourth Armor which was pretty busted, making any playthrough a breeze were players opt to stick with it. With that in mind, we are offered an even MORE mobile option in the form of Falcon Armor. While the Gaea Armor IS an offensive powerhouse, it seems there wasn't careful thought in the level design, since most stages tend to favor fast movement, which, okay yeah, high mobility is one key defining aspect of the X series, but if they came up with the idea of adding an even slower option than base X, it would've been ideal to have better level design. Like the Jungle stage is the only one to have a diverging path that use the V Blocks, those could've been used to divide a stage to create either diverging paths, or at very least, give a bit more incentive to use the Gaea Armor just because those roadblocks exist, in short, give players something to mess around with, which is part of why I think the armor failed to get noticeable spotlight outside the "boss killer" etiquette.
I did not know that people hate this armor. It though that this armor is overpowered and the speed and dexterity reduction over compansated just because it could take more hits, can stick to walls and almost rapid fire charged shots.
What are you talking about gaea armor wont get you killed on the spike and gaea armor got special attribute that wont slide you down when clinging in the wall that is vital in beating sigma in last boss battle plus his quick charge will do the trick altough the range is short but gaea is way better than falcon armor.
I love how everyone and their mother complain about Gaea's speed when the sheer damage output it delivers makes up for the speed it lacks, I mean why would you need to be faster when you can just stand in one place and blast your enemy to death And if you want a faster Gaea, there's always Shadow armor
My genuine opinion on the Gaea armor is that it's very niche and outclassed by the use of sub weapons and movement options for the other armors. It's got its uses, but other than those uses, I'd rather go with almost any other armor or just base X. In DIVE however...
it's been years since I last played X5 so this is drawing from memory. Also, I've extensively played X4, 5, and 6 so my comparisons are from these 3 games. One of the reasons why I don't like the gaea armor is its speed. The game is mostly a platform game and making it clunky to move in a platforming stage doesn't really make up for his damage output. I remember using it only for the 100% collection, and the 2nd zero stage because the wall boss was so annoying especially the spiked floor. Using the gaia armor made the fight significantly faster... but there was a section in that stage where there's a tricky jump if you're using the gaia armor.
The problem with the Gaea armor is that it has to compete with the forth armor aka ultimate armor lite and the forth armor wins in terms of utility while only lacking a bit in damage, X6 really fix this problem with the over nerfed Falcon armor which suck so hard that any other armor is a better choice. Additionally there is a part called ultimate buster which render the fast charging gimmick of the Gaea armor useless. It also does the opposite of what a megaman x player want : going fast.
With a name like "Gaea Armor", I do question what people expected out of it. It's essentially a walking tank that does heavy damage and immunity to the most commonly used hazard in the Mega Man franchise, while sacrificing mobility. I get speedrunners will hate it for that sole reason, but beyond them, I dunno why others would dislike it. Other than aesthetic; I'm not a fan of Gaea X's bulkier sprite design myself.
I would have it obtainable earlier in the game (or new game+ where you keep all parts and armor). Make the head part give your dash the ability to deal damage along with contact damage immunity while dashing. Along with letting it use special weapons with reduced ammo (half or a third). They, of course, could not be charged. Honestly the first one is the most needed change. The second one makes the head part actually do something. The third one is because I want to see the new color schemes
Honestly those who say that is bad are wrong, the armor is amazing. The problem is how late you get it. The final Zero stages are a lot easier to do with Falcon and you get the Ultimate on the third, leaving no time to shine for Gaea
@PhoenixYT9838 I did so much research on all the X games I've remembered the odd ladder speed with Gaea... people never really noticed because everyone always skips ladders 😅
@PhoenixYT9838 one of my favorite challenges on X5 is Zero buster only runs with the exceptions of certain weapons to pass levels and only using X gaea armor. You can unlock every gaea armor with zero except the head part unfortunately... still fun tho
It’s poor compensation for a slow dashing armor should have had a normal dash or parts equitable for the armor sucks that special weapons were cut for this armor
I beat the Re-fights and Sigma with that armor, is alright, I did have all the health I could in the game. The most difficult part was Sigma Stage 1 with those insta kill lasers.
Please know that there is popping you will hear, I can’t do anything about that. I’m gonna get a new mic soon, and I’ll get a pop filter for that, so this problem should be gone next video.
There are subtitles on, because default subtitles mess up some certain words and phrases.
You could buy that fluffy thingy for mics, which is exactly made to avoid exactly that, but it's just a recommendation, I'm no expert in this stuff
@@ariankar98k I’m doing exactly that for the Blue Yeti mic I’m getting later this month. There’s no pop filter on phone mics as far as I’m aware. I’ll definitely get a pop filter soon.

The gaea armor is one of the worsts armors, better than base X and maybe X1 First Armor. It’s still good at boss killing.
though have you seen the outrageous upgrade it got in Megaman X Dive? the Speed reductions have been removed, got back his air dash, and not only has spike immunity, but also has immunity to getting crushed AND can walk on lava. and they super sized his Giga attack.
Yeah, the Dive stuff is great. It just makes the Gaea Armor even stronger than it already was, so it’s super powerful (from what I’ve seen of it at least)
I would love to see all those Dive goodies on a better game
@@Needwagon4Speedwagon and the kicker about the Giga Attack?
*it ignores after hit I Frames.*
So when fighting bosses, it Nukes.
This was a good watch. Glad to see this armor finally get some love as I really like it’s design. Keep up the good work 🔥🔥🔥
Its design is pretty cool, looking very strong, sturdy and industrial (which pretty accurate to how it plays), plus the lack of special weapons isn't even that big of a deal with how powerful (and spammable) the Gaea Buster is.
What made it useless was how they overestimated this armor, they thought the immunity to spikes was so broken that they took away everything tha would made it fun to use
well melting bosses is fun with it but the issue is getting to the bosses.
Yeah actually get the ultimate armor is easier than get the Gaea and learn how to use it at full potential, just get the ultimate armor and go brrrr

That's the point 😉
Honestly, playing through a huge chunk of X5 with the gaea armor gave me an appreciation for it and, as you said, it SHREDS boss fights if you know what you're doing.
It really does. I use it for the rest of the game once I get it, including the force beams.
Huh, now that I think about it. Yeah.
I'm pretty sure one of the light capsules actually says it's an old armor
I admittedly did a double-take hearing the boss names... I actually kinda forgot their old Guns n Roses localization names got retconned in the Collection.
...Long live Duff McWhalen :P
Long live Burn Dinorex.
These names are just the original Japanese names. The guns n' roses names were the retcon
@@KaitouKaiju Yes, but they were fun
Shadow armor is basically gaea armor 2.0
Otherwise aside from the Dash speed and somewhat "Limited Range" it still nukes everything like you said
Yeah, if you weren’t getting hit by them normally, you aren’t getting hit by them with the Gaea Armor.
Gaea charge shots on bosses are euphoric. The mobility lacks, if it were easier to get vanilla playthroughs without relying on Falcon first, it'd get as much love
9:42 also, the instant charge shot also helps with needing to shoot the electrical things
Thanks for the video, this is my fave armor.
I think it’s because the playing nature of megaman is to avoid enemy’s projectile, long range attack and move fast so that this armor gets hated.
They have to know how to enjoy slow paced, close ranged attack, and powerful and fast charged works.
Great video! I didn't expect to see this armor in a more positive light but you've made many good points
Yeah, codes would’ve been super fun. I’m not too sure what armor I wanna do next, but I’m sure I’ll think of something.
@@PhoenixYT9838 Looking forward to it!
Haven't finished the video yet, but what's really funny to me about this armor is that my first time beating sigma is with this armor, I was struggling before that point, so I have a soft spot in my heart for this armor.
Shreds bosses, end discussion.
Here's how the GAEA Armor could have been better:
1) X5 should have let you carryover your unlockables to a new save file kind of like a New Game + similar to how X8 does it.
I agree with you, and I'm happy to see 20XX being cited!
I am skeptical on how Capcom would implement the New Game + concept at that time. Perhaps too complex for the PS1 machine to handle.
I always liked the gaea armor imo, great analysis video.
Surprising to see the video cuz I'm the kind of guy that likes every single armor in the main X series. (Oh yeah except for the X6's Falcon Armor)
I feel like the slow speed of the armor could've been fixed with a faster dash with slower recharge. This would be a quick burst move option that wouln't be spammable as it is with other armors/zero, and it would give you some nicer mobility for combat
Shadow armor is a Gaea armor done right 😂
@@chelinox4504 Shadow armor and Gaea armor have different niches though. Gaea armor is great for the spammable charge shot and Shadow armor is great for the crescent saber and the mobility. They're my favorite armors for each of the games they're in.
Thanks for the video... it feels very nice to see someone mention good things for the Gaea Armor
I mean, Yeah, Gaea maybe could be better... but even just like that (with the Lore Saying it's a Prototype and Unfinished armor), with all that, Gaea is my Favorite Armor, tied on 1st Place with Giga Armor (X2)
I love so much How Gaea Makes you Work with effort in order to Be Worth to it... i mean, Ultimate Armor is Allways the Easy path, but sometimes, Gaea is so Funny to use because you're the Killing Machine this time, and for first time, The Spikes don't hurt you >X3
If I play X5 again I might try to do a Gaea only run.
the charge atack speed is enough to make it worth
Saying first armor is the worst is a hot take tbh...
one I totally agree with. I don't like its functionality nearly as much compared to every other armor, and visually its probably one of the weakest ones.
Legs do nothing now, Chest does nothing special, Helmet is extremely niche, Buster looks cool but isn't really useful...
That being said, it was the starting point for all armors, and is perhaps the perfect
foundation for things to come, based on that alone it's hard to call it the worst, even if the powercreep makes it looks weak
Good info and pause trick takes me back to megaman 1 elec man😂
One of the most interesting mmx videos I've watched in a while.
Hear me out
I really like the design of it
And I enjoyed using it a lot
Exactly what I was thinking.
I actually had the most fun playing with Gaea and Naked X when using X.
it’s so ducking godly u have no idea
since X3 I been saiying "X series needs more than 4 bosses, because otherwise their gimmicks gets un-used".
Rangda Bangda was the only time I used the Gaea Armor seriously. Every other instance I used it, it was just replaying stages for fun.
Loved it
Increased resilience and a highly powerful buster shot...not to mention the Giga attack.
This armor made taking out Sigmas final form easy...
But...you had to be super precise with your jumps
I use Gaia Armor at the final stage to fight Gama-Sigma, it is a really useful armor to defeat Gama-Sigma by just climbing at the top left side of the wall and just STICKS there because it's part of the armors ability to stick on the wall and not slide down..And I just SPAM-CHARGE SHOOTING Gama-Sigma's gem to defeat him in just 10 seconds since the Gaia Armor X-buster upgrade is already at full charge shot as soon as you charge it, so I just keep spamming the charge shot at Sigma 😂
Awesome video. Love MMX5
I already played X5 again using Gaea Armor to beat the game and It's very powerful especially fighting the bosses as you mentioned.
Gaea Armor Short Charge Shot is the best way to kill sigma (exlcude Ultimate Armor's Giga Attack)
Revisiting Bosses is very easy except Spiral Pegasus.
Do normal guns hurt the mega man?
The Falcon and Gaia armors are homages to the Jet and Power armors from MM6. Similar to how the Black Devil was for the Yellow and Green Devils.
The only thing I wanted with the Gaea Armor is a faster dash. I can take no boss weapons because the Gaea armor doesn't need them.

This has been aggressively recommended to me and what the hell, im an X fan. I got nothing to lose watching this.
it's my favorite and honestly looks the best out of all designs.
Nahh u have to play like god to master that thing, Falcon and Ultimate are better armors that require less talent to shine
There's a gameshark code that allows Gaia Armor to equip 12 upgrades simultaneously. Imagine equipping Hyper Dash, Speedster, Jumpster and Quick Charge.
Quick Charge + low cd Gaia Charged Shot is much faster than U-Buster part
9:30 ...you're meant to get it with the Gaia?
the problem of the gaea armor is that it competes with both the most mobile armor with the falcon, as well as the solid alrounder 4th armor. and you sacrifice air mobility, for immunity to spikes that sounds great, but all maps are already designed for you to not really have any problem even with base X.
so it ends up being completely pointless, outside of 1 or 2 heart containers.
so its not as much the case of it being bad, but more of it being pointless.
Gaea armor was always so cool to me, of course it's slow AF, but it has a huge amount of damage output
Makes me wanna replay X5 (the fan-fixed edition)
And also I didn't know Dark hold can cheese those damn lasers dammit. I had to learn the pattern and died like hundreds of times there.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who missed the Dark Hold trick.
I didn't play X5, but this seems better than at least one of the armor sets in X6.
Gaea armor is the armor I used when I finish the game the first time when I was a kid.
but isn't megaman x 8 neutral armor is more lazy then gaea armor? it's just x with new drip right?......
I has the X Legacy Collection on both Switch and PS4/5 does the easy way works or that's only for the Original PS1 Port of X5?
I did all of this on the Legacy Collection, so it works for both of them.
Okay, I played Megaman X5 like 50 times after it came out, so what boss names are you saying here?
I did not know that people hate this armor. It though that this armor is overpowered and the speed and dexterity reduction over compansated just because it could take more hits, can stick to walls and almost rapid fire charged shots.
Sir we don't use the Legacy Collection names for the X5 Mavericks, we use their original names...
*DUFF MCWHALEN, OH YEAH!*
What are you talking about gaea armor wont get you killed on the spike and gaea armor got special attribute that wont slide you down when clinging in the wall that is vital in beating sigma in last boss battle plus his quick charge will do the trick altough the range is short but gaea is way better than falcon armor.
I love how everyone and their mother complain about Gaea's speed when the sheer damage output it delivers makes up for the speed it lacks, I mean why would you need to be faster when you can just stand in one place and blast your enemy to death
And if you want a faster Gaea, there's always Shadow armor
Gaea Armor is one of my favorites
The Gigachad of Armors
Yes it is. Next!
Hearing you call the mmx 5 bosses by their original names and not the ones we got on the original PS is throwing me off in a good way.
Duff McWhalen, though :P
y'know what?
give the gaea armor a range buff, the mobility nerf is fine.
The third one is because I want to see the new color schemes
beat the black devil with gaea in like 2 1 save state using not often real most save states was quick mns lasers the 2 megaman insta kill ones
Honestly those who say that is bad are wrong, the armor is amazing. The problem is how late you get it. The final Zero stages are a lot easier to do with Falcon and you get the Ultimate on the third, leaving no time to shine for Gaea
You've failed to mention that Gaea Armor climbs ladders 🪜 faster....
wait really? I've never noticed that then.
@@PhoenixYT9838 yup
Yes, more armor and form videos
it seems like it's not worst, just not worth the time investment to get all the parts for what you're getting.
Bro get yourself a pop filter. Instant quality improvement that costs almost nothing. Other than that this video is great!
I beat the Re-fights and Sigma with that armor, is alright, I did have all the health I could in the game.
The most difficult part was Sigma Stage 1 with those insta kill lasers.
