      Glad to hear, you should be able to get some really nice, clear footage out of that XA series lens being a HD quality optic 👌

    I recently completely disassembled and restored a Canon YJ19x9 and it was honestly pretty simple if you have any tinkering skills at all! I've taken apart some modern lenses and they can be pretty finicky in the way that parts fit together. The B4 lens was very straight forward and easy to remove elements one at a time without any over-engineered configurations to worry about. I actually recorded everything and will hopefully post soon. I'm willing to bet your back focus on that YJ lens could be fixed within a few minutes! Great videos on the subject. There's something special about utilizing 20-30+ year old parfocal zoom lenses on our modern cameras.

      Yeah I do plan to try and fix it, I have the tools and skills to CLA mechanical lenses... I just need the motivation 😅. Too many other lens things to do first

      I am looking forward to the results too. I am interested to see the side by side comparisons of them all, as I have used them on separate occasions, but never had the chance to A-B test them in controlled conditions.

    Which are the most affordable optical corrector adapters for Sony e mounts whether they be s16 or s35 sensor size working a full frame but willing to get the cheaper options and zoom digitally

      The Bee-Cam converter I sell is the most affordable optical corrected adapter as far as I am aware, everything else is $2,500-8,000 price range.
      The Bee-Cam adapter is currently priced at $862 USD + Post.
      DM me on Instagram @james.and.camera and I can take your order when you are wanting to buy 👌

    I was wondering if that would be a good idea to use a SD B4 lens with a converted like the abakus on PL super 16 film camera, what do you think ? Looks pretty sharp on digital S16 from your video.

      I haven't had the chance to use an Abakus 1.4x B4-PL adapter yet. It is one I do want to test out myself.
      I would ask the Abakus manufacturer if their adapter is optically corrected to stop all the spherical aberrations before buying it. No point in buying it if it isn't optically corrected 😊👌

    Great test but what is a Super 16 camera in this day and age?

      Hey Scott, many cameras have S16 scan modes where they use a S16 size part of their sensor, such as the Sony FS7, FS5, FX9. Canon C70, C300mk2 etc. Panasonic GH4. Black Magic Pocket 4K, and Black Magic Micro Cinema Camera.
      Plenty more cameras out there that can do a S16 scan mode too, those are just a quick list. The adapter also works with S35 cameras when using a lenses inbuilt doubler to expand the image further.

    What B4 to PL super 35 adapter would you recommend? I film on a Sony F55

    • @jamesandcamera
      @jamesandcamera  3 місяці тому +1

      The IBE HDx35 MIII Converter. It's corrected and expands the image to S35, and is specifically listed to work well with the F55.
      It's expencive and it cuts your light a bunch. But that is the tradeoff for a high quality optically correcting and expanding adapter.
      I believe Sony made one as well, but it's not as versatile as it's only for the FZ mount.
      Personally I would use a S16 optical correcting adapter and shoot in Centre Scan mode instead. Lose less light and the adapters are smaller and more affordable.

    So using super 35 and then the lens doubler and digital zoom. You then take away the option to run 120fps correct? Is there a way to run an fx6 with these lenses at 120fps without having to crop in post?

    • @jamesandcamera
      @jamesandcamera  2 місяці тому

      Hi TS, this adapter is designed specifically for S35 sensor cameras or cameras with S16 scan modes. It is not intended to work well with the FX6 not having a native S35 scan mode.
      I can't say what settings will be limited to you if you are using digital zoom to get to S35 scan.
      For my native S35+S16 FS7 I am able to shoot 150p in 2K S35 and 60/50p in DCI/4K.
      Again, no idea what the restrictions are with the FX6. You can test that yourself by replicating a S35 scan mode both in camera. Or by capturing open gate and cropping out a S35 portion of the image in post.
