@Jules Juno that's a great idea. I know a few others commented on previous videos saying they do the same. I havent tried Ohuhus blending with Copics but I did get a comment a while back saying they didnt seem to mix well. I'd have to try myself and see.

i love these comparison videos :) they show the differences between expensive and cheap markers to generally give us an idea if the cheaper alternative is worth checking out
The refills are a bit more expensive than a sketch but they refill a marker 10+times. So it is really worth it in the long term ! (A shame that not available locally though. In my case I can't even find the sketch locally so I have to shop online anyway). The only difference between the ciao and the sketch are : design of the barrel and caps, amount of ink inside and number of color available. Other than that they perform exactly the same. So I don't think an new comparaison is necessary. One thing that bother me with Ohuhu is the not refillable and not open stock options. I am not someone who buy marker sets, I always bought open stock choosing my colors carefully depending on my taste and needs. But I understand that can be quite daunting and some people might prefer the convenience of it. I think These are good for a first set. To get to know if you like alcohol brush markers or not. And if you do, expand your collection or replace your dead markers with a open stock and reffillable option. I would like to see you compare other reffilable brands to copics (touch twin from shinhan or blick brush markers).
Oh, yea the only difference between Copic and Copic ciao are just the looks, but it's definitely fun to do these comparisons, so I enjoy doing the Copic ciao versus also because I have a different color selection with them too. I totally agree with the rest of what you say. I would like to test out the Touch Twin and Blick Brush markers, but it might be a bit before I do because I have so many other brands at the moment. Thank you for watching!! =)
Try doing more straight diagonal lines but quickly because when doing circles you are going over the Same spot two or three times making it appear darker
@@lela.the.artist Haha good! And by the way, I'm not sure if your local Hobby Lobby is currently doing the same thing mine is, but I got a lot of incredible deals on sketchbooks and watercolor markers (Zig knockoff) there today. May want to go back and check it out! They're clearancing things. :) Love your channel. Your videos are so great!
Ooh that ink flow test for the Ohuhu markers was soooo satisfying to watch. Also, I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'm guessing the character in this illustration is based off of Pluto because of the heart earrings. (Pluto had a really cute heart shape on its surface) (edit) Either that, or it's based on Venus, since the planet's named after the Roman goddess of love.
I had three of my ohuhu markers run out over the free months I’ve had them and I emailed ohuhu about it and they sent me replacements for no additional cost
honestly i prefer the ohuhu markers. Also they have a 72 colour pack for the alcohol based brush nibs. I'm getting those in a few days time. I have used copics before and i do really like them but aside from the massive vibrant colours in ohuhu's that's pretty much the only downfall and even then, i dont find it too much of a problem since i draw alot of anime (alot of one piece) so its not that big a of a deal. That ontop of the no refills like you mentioned. I say in around a years time or so, they will be a fully valid competitor for copics since there's not much wrong with ohuhu's. Anyway, nice review of them. i enjoyed watching the video.
That's awesome!! And makes me super happy! I want to see about doing sketch with me's specifically to get people drawing with me. lol Thanks for watching!! =)
I love the ohuhu markers. I have them myself I think their very vibrant. I love vibrant and vivid colors!! 💖💖 copics seem kind of dull. But I love the skin tone on the copics.
To fill in backgrounds I find that moving the marker in a vertical up and down motion fills the paper better, but you have to do it quickly or it will look streaky. It will probably look a little streaky regardless which is why I do another layer to even it out. Using the broad tip fares better for larger areas. I have got some fairly smooth blended backgrounds doing it this way. I have the Ohuhu fine tip/chisel tip set of 80 and I actually really like their markers. I didn't expect to like them as much as I do, definitely a good purchase. I agree that they need to offer some lighter/paler shades. I do want to try the brush markers, but I am going to wait until the larger set of colors come out before I purchase them. Great review, TFS!
So I definitely went ahead and did this for my next comparison. It seemed to turn out a better. Still got a bit of streaky-ness but I probably just need to practice more. Thanks for commenting and watching!
👑Copic definitely performed better. I just got a little over 100 brand new ones not too long ago, but I'm still super excited to get and try out the Ohuhu brush nibs! ❤
@@lela.the.artist I know! I had about 8 of them from YEARS back & I've been wanting more of them for years. I have 5 children, so I never really wanted to spend money on myself. But I started working 2 jobs and finally saved up to get some! Now, the problem is that I don't want to use them that often since they were SO expensive.
This was a year ago but they have come out with skin tones and pastels! And you can switch the tips which is nice. You were right about the changes they do
Kinda late to the party but I’m that type of person that loves more vibrant colors over smooth natural colors, I do definitely like the ohuhu more, however I love the copics either way😊
I have a few copics in grey tones, (because they're pricy I just shade in grey lol), but the ohuhu seems pretty comparable for colors and even blending. Hmm. I like the pinks in the copics but the brown and blues in the ohuhu better. It's a good comparison for the price, definitely!
For an even fill with markers, what I do are these: 1. I work small, so I don't have to fill in a large space and waste more time and ink than I need to. To replicate this on a larger scale if you need to, outline a certain part of the space and fill that in - keep doing that until the entire desired area is filled! 2. Try to avoid doing the circular strokes for the most part - Copic (and most/all other alcohol markers) have uneven ink coverage when different levels of pressure are applied. Use more linear or defined strokes instead. 3. If it looks streaky, go over it! This works especially well when the ink isn't dry yet, but still helps even if it is. Hope this helps!
Is the planet Venus? Yayyy! I got it right! Also I definitely personally prefer the comic side but the comics aren’t far of how good that are but the splotchy-ness of the ohuhu was a deal breaker!
To get a less splotchy background instead of doing a circular motion which is great for blending I would try to color one direction like horizontally and then coloring vertically I’ve found that works best for backgrounds. I would also suggest using the chisel side instead of the brush for coloring backgrounds or large areas in general.
Thank you for sharing! I did that once and ended up with streaky lines lol, but I wonder if it's because I didn't go fast enough lol. Thanks for watching!!
I love how the copic does do refills, too! It helps the planet and all, so I’ve always disliked the fact that Ohuhu is “once you’re done, you’re done” with their markers, the blending is honestly my favorite about the ohuhes cuz I love blending. Loved hearing your thoughts while you colored!!
Yessss! That's exactly my issue! I don't want to add to the plastic trash problem by throwing out markers all the time. Especially with how much I use them lol! Thanks for watching!!
I personally love the vibrancy of the Ohuhu's, but I do love that Copics have more pastel colors. Each side has their pros. I personally have no experience with copics, and limited experience with the classic Ohuhu's, and a few Windsor and Newton brush markers. In that experience I will say the chisel tip seems to be better for large area's and even coverage. It isn't perfect but that is the best method I have found.
I don't use alcohol markers but I do like the Copic side. Venus is actually my favorite goddess in mythology. I have a character who looks similar with pink hair and dark skin, but has orange eyes.
I would guess that she's Venus just from the pink and hearts but I'm not very good at guessing so I'm not sure XD I do love the design, though. I just love how magical all of the girls look, especially that flowy hair~ (and congrats on getting 10k!!)
i was about to be so triggered until you said that your local hobby lobby doesn't sell the refills.... I forgive you lol. oof, i am way too invested in my markers for me to get like that lol
LOL it was a hard decision but the only way to get various ink was if I purchased them online and waited a week to get it, and I try to keep my videos on a strict schedule so I couldn't do that lol. Thanks for watching!! =)
The artwork is really pretty and it's nice to see how the brands compare side by side! However the whole time something felt a little off and after looking closer it appears that the pupil on the left side of her face is a little further to the left than the other pupil. For the markers I could see the vibrancy of ohuhu being better for more cartoony or anime styles while the copics feel more natural so for more realistic styles they'd really blend nicely!
I love the Ohuhu side much more for the color of her hair and skin tone combo. Even though I love the muted skin tone of copics, honestly I've been dissappointed with the ones I've gotten. I have a very limited selection of the copics as well, and I've found a lot of them have dried up even though I made sure the cap is on properly. I don't know why so many have done this, whether it's a fault in the marker's design or somehow my doing. Compared to my prismacolor markers, I've had those last for years and still be good to use. I tend to suppliment my alcohol marker style with a touch of colored pencil now and then to get more even coloring, especially on backgrounds. I don't think that the patchy spots where your colored in look bad since you're doing a space-themed piece. It gives it a bit of an interesting texture behind the star pattern. :)
I'm guessing Venus. We shall see. Haven't reached the end of the video yet. Are your illustrations available for sale??? Congrats on 10k subs. I just subscribed! I watched one of your videos a few days ago, bit forgot to subscribe so I'm glad this video popped up in my suggestions.
Good guess!! Hehe. And as far prints for sale, I've been thinking of doing that. I just put a poll up in my community tab here on UA-cam asking about interest and price range in prints. Maybe I'll do an etsy soon. And thank you so much for watching and subbing!! =)
i know *copic* has the best colour collection, while *ohuhu* has the vibrancy that wows me. I don't think it's fair just because *Copic* is much more older then *Ohuhu markers*, which gives *Copic markers* an advantage when it comes to colours, nibs ect. If you check the Channel for *Copic* related videos, you can see some of them were from *9 years ago*! While *Ohuhu markers* have been around for 3 years downwards. I personally love the *Ohuhu markers* and would die to get *Copics* .
Honestly? Even though splotchiness is not ideal, I think it kinda worked for the background in making the sky look more defined in a way? Like an interesting space cloudy effect? If that makes any sense at all lol
Could you test out the arteza fineliners or the arteza gouache?? Wants to buy them, but don’t know if it’s worth it😅 +to get a smoother background you can use the chisel nib, take one layer vertical, then one layer horizontal❤️
I definitely will! I've been wanting to try the gouache for a while. However I've never worked with gouache. Let's hope it goes well! I have tried the Arteza Inkonic pens though, and loved them!
Fantastic!😊 Looking forward to seeing the video about gouache, and I really hope it goes well😉 The best of luck to you😊 I actually think I’ve seen your review on the Arteza inkonic pens, but I think I’ll watch it again to get a little more information about them, before I consider buying them😅 Thanks a lot for answering, sadly enough, not many youtubers do that❤️ Big Love From Norway 🇳🇴
LOL I LIVE for _long _*_flowy hair_* - I have illustrations based entirely around HAIR. I often let big flowy hair floof out and taper back down in front as a frame for a face or bust.
Copic markers obviously have more colors compared to Ohuhu which allows to make more color and tone varitetes. Hopefully, we will see more sets from Ohuhu soon!
@@lela.the.artist yeah, pastel tones are the ones that practically are impossible to find among Ohuhus In Copics you are able to get BV0000 and E0000, but Ohuhus...well, the opportunity to draw light skinned people or pursue "watercolor-like" look of a drawing is less achievable compared to Copics...
to get my colors even i usually use the chisel nib with circular motions until I see that the color won't get any darker. That surely wastes a lot more ink then usual but it works very nicely.
That's what I figured. Prior to the Ohuhu Brush markers I used their classic ones and did exactly that. It was more even than this, but not 100% even. Thanks for watching! =)
Sign up for emails on the copic official website and they'll email you when they have sales! I got all my markers during 25-30% off sales for only like $3.67 a marker! They're almost always out of stock for various ink which sucks but if your looking for the markers themselves go there! 100% recommend, you won't get any spam emails (I haven't gotten any spam and I've been on their email list for a few months now, also let's be real we can deal with spam if it's for discounted copics anyway lol)
Melissa Deatrich Me too, but I noticed recently that their site was down... it redirects to markeruniverse.com, and in areas of the site it references “Colors of the Month” and the specific Copic colors (YR04, Y35, YG01) - but no listings for Copic markers. Just Winsor & Newton Promarkers and this other non-brush thing called Graph’it. The weird thing is, it has Imagination International, Inc. On the bottom of the landing page. So I don’t know wtf is up with that. EDIT: Oh shit, I checked my email and they literally switched. Imagination International I guess was hosting the Copic US site, and now they don’t. They had another 30% off sale, and then that was it. So much sad. Guess I’ll be buying from OtakuFuel and Amazon now. SHIT. Those prices were so good! The only good sales on Amazon are for the big sets. At least OtakuFuel does custom sets. I really wonder what Imagination International did to piss off .Too that bad.
Melissa Deatrich Found some more details on the change: ▸ HAS COPIC GONE DRY? - nattosoup.blogspot.com/2019/05/has-copic-gone-dry-dont-panic.html?m=1 Lots of links in that blog post. It honestly took me forever to remember what video this was and to find the specific comment, but dangit, this was *important* to _me_ - so I figured it would be to you too! 💕
@@rioreason yeah I just noticed too :c I am so sad...I was hoping to actually be able to get a decent marker collection going but now I don't think I will be able to afford it anymore. Apparently copic/too has decided not to continue business with that website....and now I am wondering if the markers were only on sale because they had to get rid of them because they weren't going to be selling copic anymore. That explains why they never restocked various ink for MONTHS. I'm so disappointed. Sorry I got peoples hopes up :c
great review i love these markers occasionally you can find sellers selling these individually.. not as cheap as the set but still alot cheaper than copics.... be careful to keep shipping costs in mind if you have to ship internationally though..
They will definitely be releasing more colors later on, if that's what you mean. They'll most likely do a 60 count pack, an 80 count pack, as well ass a 100 count pack and 120 count pack as that's what they have in their classic markers. Thanks for watching! =)
I think the ohuhu won because there is a variety of dark and vibrant colors and copics have alot of pastel colors. I love pastel colors, but sometimes I like using vibrant and dark colors too. I could also see more detail in the ohuhu side and I also think that they both are very natural. A reason I would choose copic, is because they are refillable and you dont have to waste barrels and plastic. I think it depends on your color preferences on which markers you should buy.
venus. i really like the pastel ish way of copic, for skin at least, i looooove really vibrant colors on the clothes, hair, and eyes. so yeah, I'm torn
If you watch Megan Wellers first page idea video she uses and says that ohuhu had sent her a skin tone pack and in the description she said that they were coming soon,so yeah! They are coming out with a skin tone set!I’m super excited and leave some comments about what ya’ll think!!😃😃
I'm relatively new to markers, so I have about 75 Bianyos and a dozen or so Prismacolors, about 10 Copic ciaos. My disappointment with the Bianyos is that the colors are *too* vibrant for my taste. There's nothing subtle about them. For that reason (I want the option of laying down subtle colors), I prefer the Copic side of your painting. Also, my experience with the three brands of markers I have is that the Copics are by far the best at blending. But - npow I have to wait until November 2020 before Ohuhu comes out with a larger selection of colors???
I like the vibrancy of the Ohuhu better but the smoothness and the even color on the copic. If only they would do a collab...
A collab would be super interesting! Hehe
If yet collabed so would the prices
There are vibrant copic markers just like ohuhu.
A cohuhu
yea and the prices in the middle at 2-4 $
In my opinion, the copics are better but the ohuhu are probably the best substitute for copics if you are on a budget or if you are a beginner.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and thanks for watching!! =)
I agree, I’m getting a 48 pack of Ohuhu and I’m so excited because of how good they are

That makes sense. Thank you for sharing !! And thanks for watching!
Yesss girl. I was about to say, I hope she went to Hobby Lobby and got it with her 40% coupon. ;D
You know I did!!! I dont ever pay full price for nada when I'm there! Hahahhah. Sometimes that means only buying one item a day 🤷♀️ lol!!!
I stick with the Copics. If I want vibrant colors I layer it up. And I can get the refills everywhere as well.
Phew that Ohuhu vibrancy is gorgeous 😍
Yes it is!! Thanks for watching!! =)
Yeah I was expecting them to be the same level of good and apparently I think I was correct of course other people can have their own opinion on that
Sameee! Lol
this is venus, I'm pretty sure about that, i hope I'm right...love you and your art!!
Yup!!! And thank you so much!!
Ooh that ink flow test for the Ohuhu markers was soooo satisfying to watch.
Also, I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I'm guessing the character in this illustration is based off of Pluto because of the heart earrings. (Pluto had a really cute heart shape on its surface)
(edit) Either that, or it's based on Venus, since the planet's named after the Roman goddess of love.
I had three of my ohuhu markers run out over the free months I’ve had them and I emailed ohuhu about it and they sent me replacements for no additional cost
Your art is great! How do you only have 10,000 subs? And the ohuhu side with the splotchiness looks pretty cool
Thank you!! And thanks for watching!
You are very underrated! Only 10k?? Your art is amazing
Aww thank you!! And thanks for watching!!
Awww the character you drew IS SO CUTE! I love her!! >W
The Ohuhu side just Comes To Life! I feel like I'm looking at a 3D woman right now haha.
Can't wait to get these markers. :D
honestly i prefer the ohuhu markers.
Ohuhu is working on refills and separately sold markers :)
Ah Idk why but when I watch your vids I always start drawing 😂 nice job on another awesome Vid !
That's awesome!! And makes me super happy! I want to see about doing sketch with me's specifically to get people drawing with me. lol Thanks for watching!! =)
I was dying for the ohuhu as copies were way expensive o ordered them today yayyyyy
I use the copic inks to refill my ohuhus. Many of the colours match up pretty well….so that way I get the best of both worlds!
👑Copic definitely performed better. I just got a little over 100 brand new ones not too long ago, but I'm still super excited to get and try out the Ohuhu brush nibs! ❤
Dang 100 new copics!? That's amazing! lol Thanks for watching!!
I love this character design! I totally want to draw her. She looks so playful and I love the sweetness of her hair.
Thank you! I had a ton of fun putting her together! Thanks for watching, Reeni!! =)
This was a year ago but they have come out with skin tones and pastels! And you can switch the tips which is nice. You were right about the changes they do
Kinda late to the party but I’m that type of person that loves more vibrant colors over smooth natural colors, I do definitely like the ohuhu more, however I love the copics either way😊
I can relate
I have a few copics in grey tones, (because they're pricy I just shade in grey lol), but the ohuhu seems pretty comparable for colors and even blending. Hmm. I like the pinks in the copics but the brown and blues in the ohuhu better. It's a good comparison for the price, definitely!
tbh i kinda like the spotchiness xD imo its just idk.. it has a texture to it that is appealing
For an even fill with markers, what I do are these:
Thank you so much for sharing your tips!! And thank you for watching!! =)
Halalela Art really?? Huh I usually get streaky lines when I didn’t have enough ink
I honestly just love both-
Ohuhu is bright and vibrant, while copics give a smoother and less saturated colors,
Both are amazing imo
I personally prefer the color ranges of the copics, but in general I prefer the Ohuhu markers
I don't use alcohol markers but I do like the Copic side. Venus is actually my favorite goddess in mythology. I have a character who looks similar with pink hair and dark skin, but has orange eyes.
I love orange eyes! I would have gone for something like that, but my color selection is rough when it comes to Copic lol. Thanks for watching!! =)
I would guess that she's Venus just from the pink and hearts but I'm not very good at guessing so I'm not sure XD I do love the design, though. I just love how magical all of the girls look, especially that flowy hair~ (and congrats on getting 10k!!)
You're right!! Lol thanks for guessing and watching!! =)
woot! i was waiting for this video 💟😄 good job as always
i was about to be so triggered until you said that your local hobby lobby doesn't sell the refills....
What kind of paper is that? I wanna get some because my copics just smudge and bleed in my paper.
Dat Boi it’s especially made for copics but I don’t know where to get them
The artwork is really pretty and it's nice to see how the brands compare side by side!
I definitely agree about the vibrancy. And yea you're right about the pupil lol! I didn't notice before. Thanks for watching!! =)
I like to add a foundation of colored pencil in a light wash to help smooth out larger open areas. Hope that helps with the splotchiness.
I'm a landscape architecture major, I use ohuhus for drafts and copic for final drafts
I will love if they put them on stores close to where i live i will buy them all
That would be amazing if they stocked their marker in local stores. Way more convenient too. Thanks for watching! =)
I can't pick a favorite!!!😍😍😍😍
I prefer ohuhus to copic because
1. The price
2. They have brush markers too
3. If you get good at using them, you can get the same look as copics
Honestly? Even though splotchiness is not ideal, I think it kinda worked for the background in making the sky look more defined in a way? Like an interesting space cloudy effect? If that makes any sense at all lol
Aww thanks!! I can definitely see it! =)
Could you test out the arteza fineliners or the arteza gouache?? Wants to buy them, but don’t know if it’s worth it😅
+to get a smoother background you can use the chisel nib, take one layer vertical, then one layer horizontal❤️
I definitely will! I've been wanting to try the gouache for a while. However I've never worked with gouache. Let's hope it goes well! I have tried the Arteza Inkonic pens though, and loved them!
Fantastic!😊 Looking forward to seeing the video about gouache, and I really hope it goes well😉 The best of luck to you😊 I actually think I’ve seen your review on the Arteza inkonic pens, but I think I’ll watch it again to get a little more information about them, before I consider buying them😅
Thanks a lot for answering, sadly enough, not many youtubers do that❤️
Big Love From Norway 🇳🇴
No problem! I love speaking with those that leave comments and have questions! =)
LOL I LIVE for _long _*_flowy hair_* - I have illustrations based entirely around HAIR. I often let big flowy hair floof out and taper back down in front as a frame for a face or bust.
Yesss!!! Same hereeee! Lol Thanks for watching!!!
Copic markers obviously have more colors compared to Ohuhu which allows to make more color and tone varitetes.
Hopefully, we will see more sets from Ohuhu soon!
I really really hope Ohuhu makes a pastel color pack. I think they would sell great! Thanks for watching!!!
@@lela.the.artist yeah, pastel tones are the ones that practically are impossible to find among Ohuhus
In Copics you are able to get BV0000 and E0000, but Ohuhus...well, the opportunity to draw light skinned people or pursue "watercolor-like" look of a drawing is less achievable compared to Copics...
The Ohuhu skin tone is so pretty and natural looking, (I think), while the copic is way duller.
Using the chisel tip I have heard works better for larger spaces
I feel like she looks like a winx character. It’s an amazing drawing
The character reminds me of Venus, let’s see if I’m right.
Loved this piece :)
I liked the ohuhu side better and this drawing is beautiful ✨
to get my colors even i usually use the chisel nib with circular motions until I see that the color won't get any darker.
Girl, what!! For three bucks and change! That's amazinggggg!!! Signing up now!! Thanka for sharing!!
Melissa Deatrich Found some more details on the change:
▸ HAS COPIC GONE DRY? -
nattosoup.blogspot.com/2019/05/has-copic-gone-dry-dont-panic.html?m=1
Lots of links in that blog post.
@@rioreason thank you so much for linking this here c:
great review i love these markers
occasionally you can find sellers selling these individually.. not as cheap as the set but still alot cheaper than copics.... be careful to keep shipping costs in mind if you have to ship internationally though..
i liked the ohuhu markers better by the colors brightness , but i liked them both
Thanks for watching!! =)
I wonder if ohuhu will be coming out with more markers like this??? I am really anxious to find out.
They will definitely be releasing more colors later on, if that's what you mean. They'll most likely do a 60 count pack, an 80 count pack, as well ass a 100 count pack and 120 count pack as that's what they have in their classic markers. Thanks for watching! =)
I quite like the copic, but for the price, Ohuhu is brilliant, and does its job just as well as copic.
Yes I agree! Thanks for watching!! =)
I like the copic side because I like dullness way more than vibrant side
Thanks for sharing and watching! =)
when i saw the heart earrings, my first thought was aphrodite then my mind went to venus.
I think if you don’t want splotchiness you should do lines instead of circles
Awesome!!! I love it
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Coptic should be shivering in their boots, ohuhu clearly had the edge based on price point alone, not to mention color payoff. 👏
they both look great honestly and these are the best dupes for copics. When is the release date for the brush tips?
They were released June 19th and are currently out of stock but will be back in late July. =)
Honestly I prefer the Ohuhu markers the colour is more vibrant ❤️
Nice!! Thanks for watching!
If you watch Megan Wellers first page idea video she uses and says that ohuhu had sent her a skin tone pack and in the description she said that they were coming soon,so yeah! They are coming out with a skin tone set!I’m super excited and leave some comments about what ya’ll think!!😃😃
I watch a lot of your reviews but i still have a question. Do they blend well between brands (Arrtx on Ohuhu on Copic ) ?
I'm relatively new to markers, so I have about 75 Bianyos and a dozen or so Prismacolors, about 10 Copic ciaos. My disappointment with the Bianyos is that the colors are *too* vibrant for my taste. There's nothing subtle about them. For that reason (I want the option of laying down subtle colors), I prefer the Copic side of your painting. Also, my experience with the three brands of markers I have is that the Copics are by far the best at blending. But - npow I have to wait until November 2020 before Ohuhu comes out with a larger selection of colors???
