About Vase i wouldn't blame his defense (only) for his less succesful nba career. He is one of my favorite playmaker, but in the nba he was used as a spot up shooter. I think if you have him, you need to unleash him and give him some freedon and he will make thinks happen.

NBA regular season feels like a TV series. No passion, no aggression, or agony, just a show. Defenders do not even bother marking the attack. In Europe, it's different, only 4 games into the season, and we have witnessed way more thrilling and exiting matches than NBA, where the teams figth until the end. Also, how do you expect a player to perform when you are not using him? Like wtf?
@@sefforComplicated issue. Many NBA vets who’ve been in the league for a while are obviously favored compared to incoming euroleague playes because they are insiders. Doesn’t mean they are ”better” and therefore earned their role but because they have a reputation amongst the NBA coaches. Euroleague stars are newcomers and have to ”prove themselves” even though they’ve played high level basketball in Europe. However, as seen in the video, there’s a reason why many euroleague stars tend to struggle in the NBA: playstyle. If you can’t adapt and find your role early, you’ll get benched + the foreign environment and culture make’s it even harder to succeed if you are not mentally tough enough. Guys like Luka and Jokic succeeded even though they are not athletic because they were able to adapt. Guys like mirotic and rubio were able to do this do to an extent and then there are the guys who failed and went back. In short, if you can’t gain a good reputation amongst the nba executives in a short time period after your transfer, you’ve lost your oportunity imo. Especially if you are not a young player like Jokic and Luka were when they entered the league.
The nba regular season feels like a netflix show. It's a shame such skilled individuals are encouraged to just play iso and nothing more complex than that.
@@josh35292 He's not wrong. I like your guys stuff but you seem a bit obsessed with these guys failing. I’m an OKC fan and from preseason all I can say is that Micić is already connected with his teammates and they like playing with him. That’s a huge first step I think.
@@BasketNews_com I think I’ve watched everything your channel has put out about Micić this summer and I can’t remember one positive comment. “4th/5th guard in the rotation”, “no minutes for him”, “will they trade him this season?”. He hasn’t played even 1 game yet, I don’t get the negativity. Almost no consideration for OKC’s style of play and why they paid him $8 million a year to come over. I get we’re not popular or on TV much but trust me, he will get his chances.
I'm from Sacramento and Vezenkov was a starter in several preseason games for the Kings and played excellent minutes. I think he will definitely be in the rotation. They play their first game tonight so we'll see.
Trust me there is no Small Forward-Power Forward in NBA with better shoot than Sasa and you know what they are saying in basketball. If you can shoot you play. You will see. He is just an amazing player than needs time. European players failed because is USA there is only one POP to make them feel like home, trust them and guide them. ie Spanoulis was a killing machine but he had the for coach Jeff Van Gundy. Who??? Jeff Van Gundy. Where is Jeff Van Gundy now?? commentator. If he was a good coach he will still be in the benches not in TV. He just ruined Spanoulis career in NBA. More or less the difference between NBA and Euroleague are the money available. If you give to a European Team 100 milion USD they will form a team that will be able to beat any NBA Team. Euroleague teams have a budget of maximum 30-40 milions USD. It is the same with football. Is it possibly ie Inter Miami with Messi to beat any of the top teams in Europe. No. They cant even beat the middle teams in Europe because in Europe the teams spend abt 500 milion USD and Inter Miami abt 40 milion. Now that i think it probably will loose from all the teams in 5 Major Leagues in Europe. The difference in only the budget. Imagine a team with Doncic, Giannis, Jokic, Bogdanovic,Sabonis,Porzingis, etc. . I think they can match up with any US Team. Look what is happening with National teams . except Dream Team 1 all the other failed. Greek National Team eliminated US National team back on 2006. Do you know the roster of US? LeBron James , Dwyane Wade ,Chris Paul ,Chris Bosh ,Dwight Howard ,Elton Brand ,Carmelo Anthony etc. But they were eliminated. So differnce is only CASH.

FIBA rules makes it easy for defenders. Smaller courts. Shorter 3 point line. Less space. Less area to cover. Bigs are allowed to push smaller guys more the in the NBA. Thats why they stuggle to maintain that defensive level within NBA enviroment
Mike brown is a fool, already clear when he played terrence davis in the second half of game 7 last year over davion mitchell. If the kings want to make the next step i think they should start duarte (defence!) and vezenkov over huerter and barnes. Keegan can play the 4 next to vezenkov.
They come in older into already established teams and since they are not supertalents, they wont be given the keys to the franchize. Since they are used to being no1 or at least getting massive offensive role, they are not optimap for the new roles given. Makes sense. Luka is different because he was EL MVP so young. Also NBA court is bigger which allows for more 1v1 play meaning you get exposed if you are not athletic defender way easier.
I think it would be also interesting to look at guys like Maxi Kleber or Daniel Theis who established themselves without ever being stars at the Euroleague level
Well, you did forgeth maybe the two most succesfull european players in NBA, Vlade Divac (the one of pioners) and Predrag Stojaković, although, they probably is not there because they was not names in Euroligue, being players of 80s and 90s, but Vlade Divac went there as supreme basketball god of Balkan nad Mediteranean region, or as established megagigasuperstar.
@@gamatoutsikos Yea, there are actually many of that pre Eurolegue generation. Legendary players, like Danilović, Dražen Petrović, Dino Rađa... All of them had great time in NBA, although they all went trhough ecxactly this steps, low minutes i nstart, disregard as if they are rookies, etc. But they were another kind of basketball players, they practically played for pinuts, and they had not big blown ego, although they were almost in the ranks of national heroes back home, they was raised with philosophy taht you have work hard to achieve something. Todays players thinks they first must be payed to play, that generation played first and then maybe someone would give them some bonus sometime...
@@BasketNews_com Well you missed a lot of them, guess you are much younger and don't remember: Divac, Petrović, Danilović, Kukoč, Dino Rađa, they all went to NBA as members of Yugoslavian national team, that is where NBA scouts spotted them, and every one of them, except Petrović, because he accidently died prematurelly (although his dress was retired from use in Nets, in honor to him, which makes him first European player to get that honour) , are today in NBA Hall of Fame. You also mised Predrag Stojaković, who is the sinonnim in NBA for European sharpshooter, and included several very discusable figures. Jokić is maybe the most interesting phenomenon, because he really entered NBA as rooky, very young and yet not established player, although he already won Olympic silver medal in 2016. with Serbia national team, although he was rooky there also whit not much minutes P. S. For God sake, Toni Kukoč has 3 NBA rings with Bulls,, playing with Jordan, Divac was first non-USA citizen to enter NBA Hall of Fame, you cannot just miss such names, and he for sure had much more than 12 minutes per game as Sacramento Kings team leader... P. P. S. And there is at least 10 Spanish players you missed to mention, like Hernangomez brothers, Calderon etc. basketball.realgm.com/national/teams/9/Spain/nba_players
The Mirotic one was entirely his fault in retrospect. He charged Bobby on multiple occasions over the course of the practice which is what resulted in him getting bopped. The main reason was probably moreso going from a role player in the NBA to THE guy in EuroLeague.
Some of them would just like to experience the NBA and the Euroleague MVP plus notoriety in the Olympics are a big boost in their stock... But the rules are just a big transition on top of their size
Sasha played 12 minutes against the Warriors. He was benched most the game. He scored 10 points in 12 minutes. The Kings lost. Fox had to score all 18 of his 39 in the 4th qtr. No one to help. Size isn't the factor. Having "it" is what matters. Curry has "it". Skill matters. Sasha isn't small. Hes a sharpshooter. Play the man.
Based on the fact that I know and respect almost 65% of those 36 stars, I’d say that’s a pretty Damm high percentage of success! Actually 75% of those stars I consider SOLID game altering/game changing stars meaning, when they are on an NBA court, even if they aren’t the star, they impact the game more than the average role player because of how fundamentally sound they are! It’s like they all come with a default manu ginobili setting aka, even at their worst, their style of play is soo unorthodox, you have to acknowledge them ! They do things that the box score doesn’t necessarily track! Only deep analytics shows you how impactful they are if you’re not able to see it while they’re playing!
We talk about defence in the NBA? Does Harden play defence? Its not only if you play good or not, the most important is if you are part of the franchise. E.g Spanoulis played defence, but the coach ditched him giving him a minor role. The European Players usually enter NBA in older ages than the US players, cannot accept to be a bench player in their 28 years on average , their most productive ages while having proved their quality in the past.
the mike brown criticisms of defensive effort when he’s got malik monk on the team is really funny as a Hornets fan. dude was a sieve. think if the european player shows effort his defensive principles should make him better than monk
I feel like the nba should have the best players objectively. Like it’s fine to develop guys and keep them anticipating growth (most good investments don have short return yield). But there’s some dudes in the nba that are just so bad and there’s euroleague and maybe even g leaguer who could fit team’s roles so much better.
Vasilis Spanoulis is a basketball legend in Europe if not the best to ever play the game in the last 20 years.. So yeah being treated like a 3rd class player in a team has much to do with it. Anyway we Thank Van Gundy as Olympiacos fans because he came back and won everything!
Some european stars don't succeed in the NBA because FIBA basketball and NBA are two different sports. FIBA rules make athleticism less important. For example, most guards in the NBA would be called 15 times a game for travelling or handling and they wouldn't be able to abuse their ahtleticism so much in order to avoid that. The best of them, would adjust easily and dominate Europe like good european player do in NBA but a lot of them would struggle a lot in the Euroleague.
There are awesome Canadian players that totally doesn’t make sense. Some of the best players currently are Canadian. Canada is not overseas it’s right next door. Also there’s really not much culture adjustment.
Both EU ex MVP stars lack the athletism but if their teams decide to invest actually and seriously on them I'm pretty sure they will be ok,not great but ok Double digits on scoring and a couple of assists and rbounds
You forgot to mention Hedo Turkoglu. His play style matches exactly Micic's. White European guy who is head of the team, strong psychics, offensive skills... Hedo may be the biggest example why Micic probably succeed in NBA.
In the pond or in the ocean there are fish with big legs and others with big brains... A good fisherman can train many of them with big legs, but The Big brain ones aren't trainable, they're precious and extremely rare, but you need a brave fisherman coach to build around them... Fisherman Malone did it ... But some fish has to throw sweat and blood, like fish AG, fish KCP, fish Braun... They have to swim faster, dragging fish Joker on defense knowing they will be paid off even if they don't know when or how, because none of them can understand what's going through that mind ...
Lack of size isn't really an issue. Most Euroleague backcourt players are actually larger(taller and bigger) than NBA guards. Miloš Teodosić dwarfs most of NBA point guards, of which many are 180-190 cm tall, even with their inflated heights. I agree on most other points. Speed, i.e. lateral movement is definitely an issue in isolation basketball they play in the NBA, and adjustment to that ridiculous culture is probably even worse. Not to mention unfair treatment they get as white players in an almost exclusively black league. Racism toward whites is a major problem in the NBA. You actually have to be 2 classes above everyone else to get even the slightest recognition. If you think I'm making shit up, just look at Jokić. The man was an undisputed MVP last year, but they couldn't have white guys winnings that and putting him above his black predecessors. Most analysts and commentators even publicly admitted that.
only reason is ignorance of the coaches. jokic was ignored for years and could also fail but by accident malone decided to give him a chance. he would be 5 time mvp already if he gave him minutes from day one.
But to be honest, there werent mucj people who said he would be star or was drafted way to late ... He was special even as a youngster, but he had strength but also weaknesses.
Euroleague has better regular season but thats about it. Nba got better playoffs and better players. Euroleague final four formula is interesting but not fair. Plus Euroleague is biased and pushes Hispanic and Turkish teams
You are crazy if you really believe that. Modern NBA is brillaint to watch. Level of Basketball in Heat V Bucks, Kings V Warriors or Suns V Nuggets series in 2023 playoffs was ridiculously high compared to Euroleague games

Campazzo didn't fail because lack of size. He failed because his 3pt fell from 35% to 30%
I think Abrines is a perfect example also! Nice video
He was a victim of heliocentric play around Russ. Shoot it when you get it and don’t miss too many. Tough spot for a player brought up to feel the game. And I say this as a fan of Russ, it’s just not for everyone. Would love Alex on this OKC team.
@@ttam1217alex only know is to shoot the ball, he cant defend, he cant dribble. Anthony Morrow is a better shooter than him but he also cant so anything beside shooting.
could you make a video on why this recent group of French prospects have struggled in the NBA? Yabusele, TLC, Ntilikina, Okobo, Hayes and Maledon specifically
Honestly I think they failed for many of the same reasons American prospects fail… they simply aren’t good enough
Why EuroLeague Stars Fail In The NBA ?
Is like calling a brick layer to fix your plumings . There are 2 different sports .
2 different sports? Or just different skill level
If Vezenkov or any other Euro star had at least AVERAGE nba athleticism, they wouldnt fail.... Its not training also... its genetics most likely.
About Vase i wouldn't blame his defense (only) for his less succesful nba career. He is one of my favorite playmaker, but in the nba he was used as a spot up shooter. I think if you have him, you need to unleash him and give him some freedon and he will make thinks happen.
also, we should note that international players just get decisively far less chances, they need to be 2 levels above an american player, just to get the same chance... look at goran dragic for example... he only finally got a solid chance because of injuries of his team's starters
Like wtf?
no way you watch nba ball lmao

you have to earn your role

I like your guys stuff but you seem a bit obsessed with these guys failing. I’m an OKC fan and from preseason all I can say is that Micić is already connected with his teammates and they like playing with him. That’s a huge first step I think.
Nobody says these guys will fail, just looking and past examples of EuroLeague stars who couldn't make it & why that happened
Bro cook. He's getting at least 15mins a night and leading the second unit! @@ttam1217
Look at the minutes he played tonight against Chi :D
@tomasrudys1514 Not surprising, they are starting the season on a 2 game road trip. He'll make his debut in the 6 game home stretch that follows.
LeBron James ,
Dwyane Wade ,Chris Paul ,Chris Bosh ,Dwight Howard ,Elton Brand ,Carmelo Anthony etc. But they were eliminated. So differnce is only CASH.
i know its more work even, but you startet so nice with the presentation of the players in your analysis, why not share more of it? im pretty sure you looked at it anyway, some graphs wont hurt and makes good content! You probably know thinking basketball or Jxmy? Good examples for it, and would probably elevate your great content further! cheers
Haha Barnes dropped 33, he must have read this :D
Very good analysis!
More of an outlier. They are destined to be in the states. Both athletic and switchable big and thats vital in the NBA.
Tony kukoc too
@@gamatoutsikos Yea, there are actually many of that pre Eurolegue generation.
I took all the players who fit the criteria into account, including Drazen & other pre-EuroLeague stars 😎
Jokić is maybe the most interesting phenomenon, because he really entered NBA as rooky, very young and yet not established player, although he already won Olympic silver medal in 2016. with Serbia national team, although he was rooky there also whit not much minutes

@@BasketNews_com clearly your criteria is flawed inherently, big boi
The Mirotic one was entirely his fault in retrospect. He charged Bobby on multiple occasions over the course of the practice which is what resulted in him getting bopped. The main reason was probably moreso going from a role player in the NBA to THE guy in EuroLeague.
That Pau Gasol Clip hit different #24
Jaric hit the jackpot among all the Euro dudes,
Some of them would just like to experience the NBA and the Euroleague MVP plus notoriety in the Olympics are a big boost in their stock... But the rules are just a big transition on top of their size
Great job, great video
Sasha played 12 minutes against the Warriors. He was benched most the game.
He scored 10 points in 12 minutes.
The Kings lost. Fox had to score all 18 of his 39 in the 4th qtr. No one to help.
Size isn't the factor. Having "it" is what matters. Curry has "it". Skill matters.
Sasha isn't small. Hes a sharpshooter.
Play the man.
A.Shved left NBA after 3 teams change in a single season, because of family didn`t like it. It is close to Navarro reason...
I love you guys BasketNews but this video is not right. To assume that Vezenkov and Micic will fail. Their seasons haven’t even started.
Nobody says these guys will fail, just looking and past examples of EuroLeague stars who couldn't make it & why that happened
Only deep analytics shows you how impactful they are if you’re not able to see it while they’re playing!
in all honesty, spanoulis is bigger than t-mac back home... more like kobe as giannis said, yea
5:19, a great example, Marc Gasol 2013's best defender in nba
I Think as europeans dominate the league more and more Will be given offers especially the Young talent in the euroleqgue but also the mvps

Pau Gasol liked this video
Ha, well he was drafted 3rd overall and was 21 when he joined the NBA, so Pau doesn't fit the criteria 😊
Some dont while

Man, I was a big Hezonja fan. Imagine my disappointment when he couldn’t consistently perform in the NBA then finding out he’s out of the league.
lol tnx for including me in the video in 15 sec mark :D
It's also difficult to be a star in two very different leagues.
the mike brown criticisms of defensive effort when he’s got malik monk on the team is really funny as a Hornets fan. dude was a sieve. think if the european player shows effort his defensive principles should make him better than monk
Why do u use the term fail...so early in the in the season?
clickbait
Campazzo was so much fun to watch
I think it’s simply the size of the court, much more space to operate in the nba which favors athletism
Which country are you from
I remember watching Nikola Peković, he was a real problem for his time being… we need a full breakdown on pekovic
Bro couldn't adapt to change in NBA and becomes a mafia instead 💀
Some european stars don't succeed in the NBA because FIBA basketball and NBA are two different sports. FIBA rules make athleticism less important. For example, most guards in the NBA would be called 15 times a game for travelling or handling and they wouldn't be able to abuse their ahtleticism so much in order to avoid that. The best of them, would adjust easily and dominate Europe like good european player do in NBA but a lot of them would struggle a lot in the Euroleague.
Teodosic came to the nba too late and left on his own...? Didnt he?? He was nice with LAC, not sure if cinsifet him a failure.
There are awesome Canadian players that totally doesn’t make sense. Some of the best players currently are Canadian. Canada is not overseas it’s right next door. Also there’s really not much culture adjustment.

Ersan İlyasova?
Cedi Osman?

Rudy Ferndandez was great in NBA. But also chose to go back to Europe.
only reason is ignorance of the coaches. jokic was ignored for years and could also fail but by accident malone decided to give him a chance. he would be 5 time mvp already if he gave him minutes from day one.
But to be honest, there werent mucj people who said he would be star or was drafted way to late ... He was special even as a youngster, but he had strength but also weaknesses.
Mike Brown is ignorant about Euro players unlike other coaches
I think it’s more that NBA Coaches aren’t bold enough to play the style of basketball they play! It’ll take away the stardom from their ISO stars!
